Freshman guard Lonnie Walker IV scored a team-high 16 points to pace the University of Miami men's basketball team to a 69-57 win over Pittsburgh Wednesday night at the Watsco Center.
Walker's 16-point output marked the sixth straight game he has scored in double figures and the 10th time he has done so this year.
Joining Walker in double figures was freshman Chris Lykes, sophomore Dewan Huell and junior Anthony Lawrence II, as they finished with 13, 11 and 10 points respectively.
Lawrence also chipped in with 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double. Lykes also starred running the point for the Hurricanes, as he dished out five assists to tie a career-best.
As a team, the Hurricanes held a commanding 39-24 advantage on the boards and held a 32-24 edge in points in the paint.
With the win, Miami improved to 16-5 overall and 8-1 at home.
The Hurricanes took command early in the first half, as it led by double-digits for nearly half of the opening 20 minutes and never trailed. Miami took a 34-25 lead into the break. Sophomore DJ Vasiljevic led all Hurricane scorers with eight points, connecting on a pair 3-pointers.
Miami came out of the locker room and continued their strong play by opening up a 13-point lead with just under 16 minutes to go in the game.
The Panthers responded in a big way as they went on a 14-0 run and held the Hurricanes without a field goal for over six minutes to take a 44-43 advantage with 10:43 to go in the game. Pitt's one-point advantage was their first lead of the game.
The Hurricanes stopped the Panthers run thanks to seven straight points from Walker, who connected on a pair of free throws, a layup and a deep 3-pointer to give Miami a comfortable 50-44 lead with 9:15 to go.
Miami's defense tightened over the next six and half minutes, as the Hurricanes held Pitt to just a pair of field goals and opened up a 14-point advantage with 2:34 to go in the game.
Miami returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 3), as it heads to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Every 5Star We Have Had

Berrios, via Susan:
“A lot of times as fans you always think the grass is greener. That’s just a normal thing to think. Something I’ve seen that’s definitely been a trend with Miami fans the last four years is, ‘The new guy is always best.’ It’s not always true by any stretch of the imagination.
“I just don’t see anybody beating out Malik.
Said Rose of Rosier: “He got that experience and boy, that says a lot. He has got to go into spring and say ‘Hey, man. I won 10 games last year. I don’t care what happened at the end.’ ”
“Exactly,’’ Berrios said. “That’s what he has to focus on, that’s what he has to build upon. It’s hard. You can’t get that experience anywhere else. You can’t. Try to simulate it in a practice. That experience is true live ball. I don’t see anybody beating him out.’’

If we don’t have anybody to beat out rosier then not only should we take 2018 off, but so should they.
Redshirt everybody.

“ I think that’s tremendously unfair to really forget the rest of the season and just think about the last three games.”
No braxton, we haven’t forgotten the rest of the season.

I get what he is saying, and by all means if Rosier wins out I will support the kid, but I do want to see what we have next, I feel like we are log jammed in a bad way...QB isn't really a position you want to be log jammed at in a bad way and we are in the worst way.

In his third recruiting cycle as the Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt’s Storm ’18 Class is currently fifth in the nation. Rivals.Com has named the Miami Hurricanes as the “recruiting conference champions”
Rivals ranks the Miami Hurricanes fifth overall and as the top team in the ACC in their overall recruiting rankings.
Wide receivers and the secondary highlight the Miami Hurricanes Storm ’18 Class. Running back Lorenzo Lingard is the highest ranked player in the Hurricanes class. Lingard is the Hurricanes first five-star signee since Chad Thomas in 2014 and the Hurricanes first five-star offensive signee since running back Duke Johnson in 2012. Johnson became Miami’s all-time leading rusher.
Rivals ranks Lingard as the 13th best player in the country, the fourth best player in Florida and the second best running back in the nation. They also rate wide receiver Mark Pope as a five-star player. He is ranked as the 28th best player in the class of 2018, the fifth best wide receiver and the nine best player in Florida.
Lingard isn’t the only potential star running back Miami signed in their Storm ’18 class. Miami didn’t have to go far to find Camron Davis from Miami Gardens. He is the 81st ranked player nationally, the 19th best player in Florida and the sixth best running back.

Which is weird he crossed the point of no return. He has to stay away from the thing that landed him that job, recruiting.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | February 01, 2018 at 09:11 PM
I think tho that he lost a lot of juice when the new staff came in. He wasn’t breaking any news and he starting missing on his recruiting calls more often that he hit.

One major selling point for PS2/TC should be that an All American Safety will cover the back end for them most of the time. Johnson will have another outstanding season next year.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | February 02, 2018 at 01:02 AM
This doesn’t feel like a troll job and these kids have zero reason to be here if they really had no interest. Don’t seem like the kind of guys who’d disrespect or waste anyone’s time for publicity.
Regardless of what they choose think our coaches deserve props for making this such a tough decision for two elite players thought to be lost causes.
Interesting.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 02, 2018 at 07:05 AM
It’s interesting to me that all the supposed dudes in the know on cis beleive them to be trolling... trolling the other schools. They’re saying at least 3 of the 4.
I won’t hold my breath, but hope is alive.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | February 02, 2018 at 07:24 AM
I don’t believe that either Epi. I honestly think these kids were set on where they want to go and our coaches have made it very hard for them to pull the trigger.
Read somewhere Surtain and his wife are both from Louisiana and his son grew up worshiping Peterson. The other kid left his official at UGA without committing.
Thrm visiting at all to me is an indication they are truly interested.
They’ve been respectful throughout this whole process, just don’t see this as an attention grab.
All that being said. I am hopeful but not optimistic
Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 02, 2018 at 07:38 AM
The word is they all committed to Miami already but they want to make a splash signing day. This from couple of known legit on cis.
Actually 3 of the 4 to Miami, tyson elsewhere. If that happens it’d be glorious, but again seems far fetched.

4 of 4 .... Big Video .... Big Promo .... SWAG U is Back ....
These kids are gonna be sold a piece of the beach, believe that!!
They also want to stay home, Good Kids not in trouble and the Miami streets is not their issue. Most kids want to get out/away from the street life and I don't believe this is any of their issue..
All 4 Commit! 12%

Don’t know why, but I definitely want to watch this live:
NBC news: Mike Hughes is a limo driver and self-taught rocket scientist. On Feb. 3, he plans to launch himself into the stratosphere in a rocket built in his garage. His ultimate goal is to get to outer space and prove that Earth is flat.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 02, 2018 at 07:38 AM
Other than Slivera, I dont think anyone was ever set. TC & PS2 both had early favorites but were always going to go through the process. IMO they both had choices if they were going to go their own way (LSU/UGA), but also if they wede going to play together (Bama/Miami). Miami entered as a realistic option after we smashed Notre Dame. Chatfield was probably an early Miami lean, but FU made their case before us.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | February 02, 2018 at 10:18 AM
Someone retweeted Surtain last night so I clicked on it. His pinned tweet shows a Top 6 and we weren't even on it.
Think our coaches have done a great job of working these recruitments to the point we are going to get the final face time on the final days before NSD.
Don't think most of us thought that was possible just a month ago when UGA and Bama were playing and we were coming off three straight losses.

The fact that theyve (other then Nesta) so blatantly haven’t mentioned Miami in their top x lists, is the only thing that suggests maybe they are all planning a signing day bomb together.

He tweeted and pinned that top list BEFORE the season started. Like I said, sometime after beating Notre Dame, it is my opinion that all of that changed. We have been in it since then, but those AH kids were laser focused on a title, not recruiting.
Word is we are in really, really good shape for all 4. The next 5 days are gonna be sooooo stressful.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | February 02, 2018 at 11:29 AM
My feelings after surfing the net on a do nothing morning is we will get Silvera and Surtain.
Think PS Sr is smart enough to know LSU is a raging dumpster fire waiting to happen. Ogregon just fired a great OC for one thats a yes man, they lost a ton of talent and he hasn't shown anything to indicate he can build a winner.
Couple that with CMR being a great mentor and coach, an education light years better and the 20 minute to the stadium and him staying looks to be the right choice.
Silvera may be getting a litte jealous of all the attention the other three are getting so he's started trolling a bit, but he looks to be solid.
No clue on the other two.

Nesta is the Leader of the 4...
Idk how anyone is missing that..
He only trolled along on the visits to make sure none of the other 4 did a sign and grab off of the coaches words and lavish gifts..
He is also pushing to put the city on his back with the 3 of his buddies
Just watch Wednesday they will all CANE

LOL...some of y'all carryin' on like Richt just started recruiting those kids yesterday.
Given Richt's track record at AH, & the fact He offers kids as early as the 8th grade, the only person that has a longer relationship with the "AH4" is probably Rumph.
Add in the fact that Richt is known as a great closer, this $h!t should be easy.

Nothing about what CMR and his staff are doing is easy.
If we get one of these DBs it will a huge pull by our staff, especially Surtain who it appears grew up loving LSU, idolizing Peterson and basically being committed for two years.
---------------------
https://www.seccountry.com/lsu/lsu-mailbag-latest-patrick-surtain-jr-jerry-sullivan-impact-back-options-2018-class
Additionally, it does not hurt that the 5-star cornerback’s parents, Patrick Surtain Sr. and Michelle Surtain, are both from Louisiana. That gives the Tigers a slight edge with added family in New Orleans, in Donaldsonville, La., and in Baton Rouge, La. Regardless of where Surtain chooses to play, his family will make it to his games.
The key X-factor here is that despite growing up in South Florida, Surtain was a fan of LSU and idolized former Tigers great Patrick Peterson. He associates LSU and “DBU” with Raymond, who has spearheaded his recruitment for years already.
With that in mind, I expect Surtain to pick LSU when he announces his decision on Feb. 7.
