^^^ If youve been on CIS boards the last few hours youd know by now that Rumph is locking down Tyson & PS2 now, lol. So everybody should be jacked about that.

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 16, 2018 at 01:04 AM

I hope this is true. Even if it isn't, I like what Rumph has done so far. I think PS2 and Campbell will be better served by coming to the U.

If Rumph does lock them down, it is a credit to him as a coach. Rumph is not going to be given AH recruits just because he coached at AH in the past. There are a lot of good DB coaches out there, and he is one of them.

Rumph is given respect by CMR and among local coaches because of what he accomplished as a player at the U (rise of the program under Butch and then a National Championship under Coker), in the NFL as a player (49ers) and coaching Broward optimist and coaching at AH (State Championship). As a coach who has developed programs and futuer D-1 and NFL players, Rumph recently helped put two DBs in the NFL after one year of work. Rumph has also turned Michael Jackson from an underachiever into an NFL prospect. And Rumph will have many, many other NFL draftees in the future.

Rumph is very accomplished, and Rumph is younger and that also means something to recruits. PS1 is not going to steer recruits to Rumph and the U, Rumph will have to earn every prospect that commits.

Make this happen Tony!

Needs are DTs, OTs, CBs and DEs.

If you need a list of names, I can get 1 for you.

The BEST place for them to go pro & play in big games is Alabama. I dont think thats even up for debate. I think LSU is a dumpster fire waiting to happen. UGA is a good spot right now. Miami is home, and I do think Rumph can get them 3 and done, but he really does need to prove it.

His Royal Dudeness

If Bandy is looking like a legit NFL CB next year, then we know Rumph is a good coach. Bandy has the talent to be a late 1st, early 2nd round pick, Rumph's reputation will be built on getting kids like him to reach their maximum potential. I must say, so far Rumph has done a nice job turning out good CBs, but hes got to get his guys, he recruited in to the NFL. Nothing builds a reputation like getting dudes in the league. Look at the types he coached up at AH, 6'2" & fast types. He's finally gotten to a point where he's not just patching holes with bodies. I want to see how he manages his 8ish scholarships for another 2 football seasons to see if he's truly developing as a coach. If he's got a bunch of 4*s playing and high potential 3*s redshirting, I wouldnt be surprised to see him grab the job with safeties, and the extra 6 scholarships that go there. Secondary is the 3rd most important job on the defense based on scholarship count, but its usually the job before you jump into a DC role.

BigWindyCane1

It would seem natural for Rumph to slide into a role where he coaches DBs, but I think it is more complicated than just being groomed for a DC role at some point.

Diaz is the current DC, and the coach who has the most history with Diaz is Coach Banda, who followed him here to Coral Gables from Texas and Miss. St. Banda is known by local recruits, not as a great developer of talent, but as a recruiter, who happens to have built good relationships with local and central Florida recruits. But Banda, like Diaz, didn't play D-1 football or claim to have a long resume of putting people in the NFL. But the exciting defense they run sells itself.

Aside from being a Diaz loyalist, Banda is the in-house recruiter, and he has developed relationships with recruits. IMO, Banda probably also oversees the editing of film, defensive game-planning and coordinates film sessions for the defense. IMO, it is possible that Banda is an advisor that Diaz trusts, and I don't see Banda coaching any other position group at this time.

CaneRock

Good one TonyCane, high tech bag game LOL.

BigWindyCane1

On a separate note, unhappy with the way the Canes men's basketball team closed last night. On the positive side, Dewan Huell has shown us this season that he is the real deal and held his own against two future NBA first rounders, Carter and Bagley.

I hope Coach L can get this team to play closer to it's potential on both offense and defense. I think they left some things on the table.

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 16, 2018 at 12:08 PM

Then he should take the coaching role that has the fewest scholarships imo, LB. If he plans on hanging around Diaz, thats the best spot to be at. Defense should only have 4 coaches really. I get that it may be a bit different as you get up to speed though. My point really is that if Rumph does at CB what he did at AH, there's no way he's only gonna coach CBs. He'll move on to greener pastures with a larger role.

His Royal Dudeness

Looking at RB depth for next year and we are really stacking some great players. Hopefully Burns is good enough to make Davis RS, otherwise I hope the kid (Burns) has a degree in 3 so he can transfer. I would love for Davis to be 1 in our pocket for next year, then we only need 1 RB and can go after the best again. If we land ANOTHER 5*, we may need another 4* just for depth. Assuming Homer isnt gone after next year.

TonyCane

We're still on probation. If we used bagmen, it would have to be this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RycT1CoNZCI

1:15 in sums it all up.

TonyCane

Strike that. We're not on probation, but still in that repeat offender window. So the link still stands.

As CoCane pointed out, these listed weights arent always up to date, but...

If Homer & Lingard can get to 210 & Dallas & Davis can get to 205, I'll take that roster with any top 10 through 5 program. Thats enough talent to have a truly dominant running game, the horses are in the stable. The question is OL, whicg is still sorting through things, patching up holes. Donaldson was our most physical OL last year, a freshman. Searles has got to get his group ready for LSU. I'll take a look at that roster next.

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ 1 thing we dont have is a 6'2" 235 bully back, but we dont really need one for the ACC. We do need a bunch of bullies on that OL.

You guys are both wrong. If the OL isnt ready, we are in trouble. Malik can be alright when there is a formidable running game. If there isnt, then you are relying on the QB & WRs. My early prediction is we will see 2 QBs through out the year.

Go Canes!!

Sorry buddy.

If our two studs, one an EE and another with a spring and two fall camps can’t win the job no matter who the OL is we are screwed man.

The bar is set at less than 50% completions with 9 TDs and 10 picks down the stretch.

If Perry or Williams can’t do better than that what does that hold for future?

I saw Lingard and Davis a couple of times during the season, and I think those weights are definitely doable for them. Lingard is tall for a RB, and is as tall as Choc, but not as big yet. Lingard was the best RB in Florida, and Florida was loaded this year. Lingard is very fast and also has room to grow. But Lingard needs help in learning the position.

Carol City Chief Davis is very talented. I really like him. Davis was pretty close to Cook in terms of talent.

FYI our 2018 Football schedule gets released at 2PM tommorrow. Can't wait to see how this shakes out. Im really not wanting to make a case for Malik here, but...

If Perry doesnt beat him out, he doesnt. Malik is 11-3 as a starter, and with Richards hopefully 100%, Cager, Thomas & Harley, he's gonna have a chance IF the OL can run the ball. Short distance 3rd down runs can convert. If the OL cant run the ball AGAIN, then we are truly f*cked. Now you have to throw the ball for distance. What I really meant was I wont be surprised if Malik is the starter vs LSU with Perry getting reps behind him. If Malik struggles, I wont be surprised to see Perry get the reins. If Malik beats LSU and takes us on another run, (honestly 60% passing is all Im asking for, if the OL can run) then Perry will get a bunch of reps so that hes 2019's starting QB, Weldon gets a degree in 3 and backs up, Williams gets garbage time reps.

Just a scenario I cant certainly see happening, but its all on that OL and coach Searles.

His Royal Dudeness

Does The U have a helicopter for recruting? If not, lets start an advanced helicopter mechanics course so we can get Richt one. Put a bigass U on that thing. F*cking Bama and their f*cking helicopter!

We need a running game, but Malik’s troubles weren’t necessarily the result of a lack of one. He left way too many yards and points on the field... because he can’t hit the ocean from a boat.

His Royal Dudeness

Look I agree, but let me play devil's advocate for a sec and say something people may or may not think is the case, but would be in my opinion a positive for Richt.

1) Kaaya got better as the year went on. I think the kid made a huge mistake and would have put up numbers had he come back. I think we go undefeated, lose to Clemson, beat Wisconsin 12-1. Teams would have to have honored our pass making things easier for Walton had he stayed healthy (would have won the Heisman) & Homer. I seriously think 2017 could have been a really special one at The U had injuries gone our way and players came back, oh well, moving on.

2) Richt told Rosier, "youre never going to play here if you dont get better." I think it obvious that he got better, and I do think he can take 1 more step although I admit I dont know if he will. That next step is being a real game manager. 60% completions, moving the S to get a good throw to the TE, and lastly being able to just hit a wide open player. I wont be shocked if that happens, because every year a few SR QBs do it. This time, he may not be as shell shocked going through practice. His leadership could take off as a SR. Just saying it could happen.

3) Perry should be able to get some live action no matter what. Best case scenario is Malik is the man I described and is doing eveything possible to hold back this young man, and a good looking Weldon.

^^^ Thats goal (A) Pass [] Fail [].

Goal (B) would be Malik is a backup because Rosier cant be held back any longer. Rosier hasnt put in the work to get any better on the field, hasnt taken a massive leadership role, hasnt taken being QB at Miami seriously enough.

Royal, I think a V22 Osprey or a V/STOL configures F-35 with a big U on either would be better than a mere helicopter.

OK CaneSpacers... help a brother out.

I have committed to going to the LSU game in Dallas on Sept. 2nd with my wife. Already have plane tickets, hotel res., and rental car wrapped up... all i need now are 2 game tickets.

I looked on StuHub and they are pretty ridiculous right now. $135 apiece for nose bleeds.

Will any of you Canes Club members be able to get some deals on mid-level seats, (like 200 level), for that game and get 2 "extra?" I'm seeing $300-600 apiece for those seats!

Not sure when they even go on sale for the schools...

His Royal Dudeness

I mean all of this from a HEAD FOOTBALL COACH point of view. If you are Richt, thats what you are looking for in your SR QB. As the CEO/Commander, the HC needs to make this clear to Malik, "this is what Im looking for in you young man, this is what our team needs you to be." We'll see if he's up to the challenge because the accuracy has a bunch of practice to go. If he's not accepting the challenge and showing progress within a couple of weeks, you make a tough call and you go to plan (B) which is putting more time & effort into Perry.

Whos job is it to grow fan support, what role to fans play in growing support, and what role does a team/club/university play?

Herbieibis

Better play calling, is the key and playing to what Rosier does best. Personally, The Herb would use him out of the bull pen. When I was coaching baseball a kid that had control problems I would start him, didn’t bring him out of the pen but in football, I wouldn’t bring in a greenhorn as a reliever. Start one of those Freshmen and go as far as they can take us until, they or the team needs experience in certain situations.

The play calling is as good as we are going to get until Richt concedes an OC is needed. What we need is Wisconsin's OL. Two 4* JRs on one side, a *SR 3* C a 5* SO and two more 4* SRs. The need to be quick and 310 a piece. That will put us in 3rd and 2. Now when a player like Rosier pulls the ball back on the RPO, he can beat the LB for the 1st down. Alabama took Jalen Hurts to the Title.

CaneRock

If Rosier wins the starting job, it's because He won it fair & square, & got better...it also doesn't mean that Perry sucks.

And before anybody says that accuracy can't be improved, under Richt's tutelage, Charlie Ward's completion percentage jumped from 56% in 92', to 70% in 93'.

Testaverde, Walsh, Erickson, & Toretta, a list that includes 2 Heisman winners & 3 National Champions, all sat for 2 years.

So it's not all doom & gloom if Perry doesn't win the job.

The Work 1-16
I will keep this succinct and to the point with additional info from last night’s Miami-Duke basketball game, which masked as a recruiting event for the football staff.

**Mark Richt spent a majority of the second half last night sitting next to Patrick Surtain, Jr. and Nesta Silvera. I’m willing to go as far as I believe UM has a better shot with Surtain than Tyson Campbell at this point. It went very well with Surtain and progress continues to be made there. His recruitment essentially started in earnest this month since he was so focused on his senior season. Also, despite rumors that Campbell was on campus over the last 48, that was not true. Until he actually sets up an official visit to Coral Gables, I will consider him a long shot, and even then it will be tough.

**Miami is setting themselves up very nicely with 2019 OL Dontae Lucas — who was one of the prospects in the building last night. Lucas has spent more time on campus than just about any other 2019 recruit and is building a very strong relationship with Stacy Searels and Coach Richt. There’s a great chance Lucas continues Miami’s trend of landing the top local lineman in each of the last two recruiting cycles (Donaldson and Scaife). It will be interesting to see where Lucas plays his final season of HS ball, as Sed Irvin is no longer at Miami High.

**2019 UF commit Cameron Williams (Chaminade-Madonna DE) was getting a ton of attention from the Miami coaching staff last night and then Manny Diaz and Craig Kuligowski stopped by the school to see him today. Keep a close eye on him over the next few months as the Canes continue to prioritize and flip him from the Gators.

**I mentioned in yesterday’s work that there was a possible commitment on the horizon from the group of visitors — that came in the form of 2020 DE Samuel Anele, who committed to Mark Richt just before halftime of the game yesterday. A source who saw it go down said, “I’ve never seen a kid as happy as he was when he committed.” It’s going to be fun watching Anaele develop with two years left at the high school level. I don’t think a reclassification to 2019 is completely out of the picture either.
