University of Miami head women's tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tewsannounced Thursday the signing of Sofia Sewing.
A Miami native, Sewing is the nation's third-ranked prospect in the class of 2017 according to Tennis Recruiting Network. She joins the Hurricanes this week for the upcoming spring season.
"We are really excited to bring in a young lady as talented as Sofia, who also happens to be local," Yaroshuk-Tews said. "Keeping this type of talent close to home is pretty special. We are eager to watch her develop into an even stronger player as the years progress."
Sewing is one of the world's top young players, finishing 2017 at No. 23 in the ITF Juniors rankings. She peaked at ninth on the international list on Sept. 4, 2017.
A 5-foot-7-inch right-hander, Sewing graduated from Florida Virtual School. She began her ITF Juniors career in September 2012 at age 13, advancing to the quarterfinals in each of the first four tournaments she played.
Sewing made her first tournament final in July 2013 at a Grade 5 event in Cuba. She followed that with her first championships shortly thereafter at a Grade 4 competition in Mexico, winning the crown in both singles and doubles.
In December 2014, Sewing won the U-14 singles and doubles titles at Eddie Herr International Championships in Bradenton, Fla. Soon after, Sewing reached the U-16 Junior Orange Bowl International quarterfinals in South Florida. She also reached the second round of the qualifying draw of the U.S. Open Juniors.
Sewing swept the titles at Eddie Herr a year later, this time at the U-16 level. She then won a Grade 1 tournament, in College Park, Md., in August 2016.
This year, Sewing continued her strong play, winning multiple doubles titles and reaching multiple singles semifinals. In addition, she competed in multiple junior Grand Slam events.
Sewing competed in singles and doubles in the Roland Garros Junior French Championships in June 2017. The next month, in her second-ever grass tournament appearance, Sewing advanced all the way to the Wimbledon Juniors singles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals.

True story 💯💯💯
But they don't wanna hear it!
Posted by: WWIN | January 16, 2018 at 10:47 PM
His completion percentage went down 10% after the injury but people wanna act like he was never injured without a bye week.
He was 20/29 at Duke as a freshman... my question is... What is his position coach doing to make him regress if anything???

Forgot to put after injured throwing shoulder... and forgot to put up defensive stats
Posted by: WWIN | January 16, 2018 at 10:53 PM
And before anybody says that accuracy can't be improved, under Richt's tutelage, Charlie Ward's completion percentage jumped from 56% in 92', to 70% in 93'.
Testaverde, Walsh, Erickson, & Toretta, a list that includes 2 Heisman winners & 3 National Champions, all sat for 2 years.
So it's not all doom & gloom if Perry doesn't win the job.

If Rosier can complete 70% of his passes, the Canes will be in the college football playoff. Ward accomplished 70% in a different era, where lower completion percentages were more common due to the offenses the colleges ran back then. Ward had one of the most remarkable seasons under CMR that any quarterback has ever had in college football history. I am afraid that Rosier isn’t in Ward’s category, but numbers like that will transform the Canes offense entirely.

Baker Mayfield.

Is Carson still in play? Nebraska's class is filling up. We should be taking the 1st 2 out of Briggs, Chatman & Carson.

He also went 7-22 for 42 yards and two INTs as a freshman against Clemson the week before. He played very well at times, very poorly at others. It's how he's been since he got here. Streaky is the word I believe Richt used during camp.
Doesn't matter anymore. Imo, barring injury he has about a 0% chance of starting next year.
Hopefully Perry will be everything he's been touted to be and this time next year we'll be making a case for him as the best QB in the ACC going into 2019.

To me, the OC is the QB coach in CF.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 17, 2018 at 09:56 AM
Would love to have Barrow back, STs was one of the better units when He was at UM under Shannon & Golden.
But I read they let em' go because they hired Ken Norton Jr. as DC, and He also coaches LBs, so keeping Barrow would've been redundant. So He wasn't let go for under-performance.
Richt needs to make this happen if He isn't picked up by another NFL team.

When it comes to the offense I give both Richts an incomplete.
After a slow start our offense was really humming down the stretch last year and for the first time Kaaya was playing lights out at QB.
As TD said yesterday I feel we could have run through our schedule this year, lost tighter to Clemson and beaten Wisconsin if he had stayed.
I feel this year Malik want really ever a good passer, but he made up for it a ton with his legs. As the season went on we kept losing playmakers, the offense became much more predictable and Malik was downright awful. . Don’t know if that’s lack of imagination, trust in the QB or both.
Think we’ll have our answer after watching a talented, hand picked, groomed Perry blow up or struggle and how they react to either scenario.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 17, 2018 at 10:27 AM
To begin with if Perry starts u can dam well bet the vanilla icing will be heavy. We better finally be able to run block in order to help him out. Richt, just isn’t the type play caller that’s going to let him chunk it all over the field.

HE IS GONE.....We Have a new set of QB's talk about that or hush dude nobody cares what Kaaya "would've" done he isn't here and we don't care... you're blog hogging with your bs. It's old and redundant now.

I 12% Every year because I unlike most don't believe there is any reason kids as talented as CANES should ever lose PERIOD!
Can't make the best NFL players and stay Medioce in school
I've told you this 100,000x but you still like to ask "12% Much"

Your capacity to absorb the context in which he was referenced is staggering.
Aside from that, hadn’t spoken about him in a while. If I had to guess only about 12% of the time lately. And as far as blog hogging, I probably have about 3/25ths of the posts the last few days.
And I don’t get the whole go blue thing. I’d bet 88 out of a hundred on here aren’t.

I don't see this post where Dude said we would've ran the table if Kaaya came back.
Unless & until it's cited, I'll just chalk it up to Rosier hate making people see $h!t, or making $h!t up.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 17, 2018 at 12:53 PM
Don’t make shit up. Don’t hate Malik, at all. Not even 1%. Thankful to him for a great season, but the regression as more of his undeniable weaknesses emerged were obvious. As obvious as Kaaya’s immobility was for him.
————
1) Kaaya got better as the year went on. I think the kid made a huge mistake and would have put up numbers had he come back. I think we go undefeated, lose to Clemson, beat Wisconsin 12-1. Teams would have to have honored our pass making things easier for Walton had he stayed healthy

I do think had Kaaya come back, we run the table...
That said, there is zero reason to debate that, you can think Im wrong and Im good with that. I dont care about that alternate reality any further than a fleeting thought of what could have been. However, it is that opinion that shapes at least a little bit of my views on our current staff.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 17, 2018 at 01:15 PM
TD have no idea how this turned into a sink. WW asked me a question and I answered it honestly. No sarcasm, no trolling.
Doesn’t matter. In less than 60 days word will start leaking from spring practice we’ll all see for ourselves.

LOL...you don't hate Malik, but you say our season is doomed if He starts next year.
Or after I post an example of a QB's completion percentage taking a substantial jump under Richt's tutelage, your response is:
"Until the first time he throws a 50% completion, 1 TD 3 pick game.
Then the sky will fall like the raptures is us."
Or after WWIN says Rosier balled out in the Duke game in 15', you bring up His stats from a Clemson game where everybody stunk up the joint.
LOL...look, if anybody has a chance to beat out Rosier, it's Perry, but He's gonna have to make a substantial jump to do it. He was barely cracking 40% during the QB battle, while Rosier only has to increase His completion percentage by 7-10%. I think the latter's easier to do going into your 5th year with 13 starts under your belt.
In any event, may the best QB win, and let's hope at least the top 2 show significant improvement.

With the exception of LSU,VT, & maybe BC, the rest of the schedule sets up nice for a QB with no game experience to get His feet wet.

I disagree about Richts play calling for perry... even w a qb who couldn’t throw worth a sh*t in Malik, he still threw the ball deep early and often. His playcalling wasn’t vanilla because he called games in a box, but because he had so few plays.

I'm already revving up the engine on the bus! It's go time 12%ers. This is the best schedule setup we have had in years. Just need to stay healthy. Oh, and finally we don't have a BYE after the second game of the season!

Thats why I can easily see Rosier getting the start. If the OL can run the ball and Malik gets better, like 59%, we can go on another nice run. Need Ford to be a dog though.

I want to beat LSU, with PS2 on our roster, snatching a pick or forcing a fumble.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 17, 2018 at 02:55 PM
According to the schedule I will be at LSU,SSU,FIU,FSU,Duke,GT,Pitt Games this year. Can't make UNC it's Thursday Night and Can't make the BC game in Boston because it's on a Friday night.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 17, 2018 at 02:57 PM
I think we can certainly beat LSU, heres what I think needs to happen.
1. We need a QB that can manage the game enough to make DBs pay for mistakes on Thomas, Harley & Richards.
2. An OL that can run the ball.
3. Another NT to help out Ford.
4. STs play that is dynamic.
We get that, we go on another run.
