NEW BLOG IS UP!

Of the 31 former five-star prospects eligible to be picked this year, 23 were selected during the draft.

What’s particularly impressive about that group, though, is just how many of those formerly elite recruits were selected in the first 2 rounds.

So 80% of 5 stars are drafted, most in rounds one and 2.

1mg of Epi

stupid it is not even funny.

Posted by: 86Cane | February 07, 2018 at 08:23 PM

Wow soup. You really are a moron.

There are 30 5* and 3000 4* star prospects each year.

There are 30,000 3 star and below.

40% of NFL draft is 4-5*

Do u need me to do the math soup, because apparently u are retarded.

If I were Miami, and I found that schools like A.H. were basically bad mouthing me to its players, I would go after them politically and make their style of mercenary football suffer.

can flop just like any one 3 Star (or 6th round draft pick like TB) can become a hall of famer. It’s a numbers game. Ask Tony, he’s been saying it for years...

Posted by: DallasTX Cane | February 07, 2018 at 06:42 PM

This is absolutely true.

Posted by: 86Cane | February 07, 2018 at 08:07 PM

It’s actually not at all true. It’s rare for a 5* to flop. NFL drafts are disproportionately made up of 5* players.

86Cane

I see all of the usual spin masters and sticking to their usual talking points. Somewhere in the middle is the truth.

Is it a very good class? YES

Is it what we wanted or needed? NO

86Cane

Most players, even 4-5 star guys do not live up to the hype. Any one individual can flop just like any one 3 Star (or 6th round draft pick like TB) can become a hall of famer. It’s a numbers game. Ask Tony, he’s been saying it for years...

The difference between 5 or 6 and 3 isn’t that big. It’s a couple 3 stars players.

Being #6 is great, we ALL have to agree on that. But the difference between #6 and #3 is HUGE. Just Curious, where did Clemson wind up?

I'm not calling for Rumphs head, but he should've gotten at least one of the corners being that they were his former players. I get Surtain leaving, but Campbell should've been ours!

Of course not is not a FAILURE. That is way too extreme and I would never say that.

But to NOT admit that it is NOT what we wanted or needed is LYING.

Next year's numbers for recruiting.

QB - 1
RB - 1 if Davis redshirts, 2 if not
WR - 2 and 1 of 2018 should RS
TE - 1
OT - 2 or 3
OG - 1 if someone redshirts
DE - 2 or 3
DT - 2
LB - 2
CB - 2
S - 1 if 1 of 2018 redshirts

17 - 20 for #Surge19

CoCane

This class is awesome overall but this staff fukked up royally at recruiting DE this cycle. We need at least 4 in 2019...

TonyCane

We’ll see where Campbell is in two years after Saban retires and Smart heads to Alabama. As for Surtain, I’m sure he’ll have an excellent college career...followed perhaps by a relatively short NFL tenure. Saban’s regimes does get the max out of their kids...to the point they have hit their ceiling and have their bump card halfway filled before they hit an NFL field.

Posted by: TonyCane | February 07, 2018 at 01:29 PM

OMG you sound like a weirdo who thinks he can predict the future.

Posted by: PapaCane | February 07, 2018 at 02:38 PM

In 2017 the four oldest coaches were:

Dan Snyder: 77 (initially retired at age 66)
Frank Solich: 72
Joe Moglia: 68
Rocky Long: 67
Nick Saban: 65

Somehow, I don't see Nick Saban residing at the school until in mid 80s. My suspicion is that he is chasing Bear Bryant's record, and once that is surpassed all bets are off. So no, I would not be surprised that before Surtain can leave for the NFL, that he has a new HC.

And I could see the Georgia HC going back to Alabama. Of course, I could easily be wrong.

DallasTX Cane

Top 5 class is friggin awesome!! U guys need to look on the bright side...no one player makes or breaks a team. Recruiting is about numbers not individuals. Keep bringing in top 5-10 classes = having the players and depth to contend for National Titles. What U do with them once they’re IN is just as or more important. There will always be guys we want but don’t get. If the overall number of 4-5 stars keeps increasing and we can pull in top 5-10 ranked classes year after year, we will compete for the conference every year and be in the NC picture. Add in an exceptional player and or exceptional coaching and we will win one again finally!

Most players, even 4-5 star guys do not live up to the hype. Any one individual can flop just like any one 3 Star (or 6th round draft pick like TB) can become a hall of famer. It’s a numbers game. Ask Tony, he’s been saying it for years...

Go Canes!!

One last thing..

There is obviously a Heritage-UM disconnect unless a kid is dead set on coming here. Don't know why or if it's fixable but we can't continue to get trolled by a program locally that seems to have an issue with us

We need to continue to cultivate the far better UM-IMG pipeline which is in full force and getting better.

Go Canes!!

Know it's early but we have six linemen/DTs already committed for 2019 and 2020.

This staff has done a great job of getting guys on board and keeping them.

We've only had a handful of decommits over the last two seasons.

You right because SDE. Were going to need 1 WDE and 2 SDE minimum, and the 2 SDE will have to be contributors as freshmen. You must be implying we'll need 2 safeties here also. I think Blades might be a redshirt guy at safety, then again he is probably going to get good enough to earn reps by the middle of the season.

The OL was awful in 2017. Pitt is a team we should be able to run over and shut down, period end of story. Our best tackle, StL isnt a mauler and next year we have to break in another. This is a position of great concern right now, not to mention we did not land a single OT in this class. That means next year becomes critical, we will have to land Ereck Flowers and hope the guy we break in this year pans out, all the while we have to stay injury free. Many of our coaches are now on the clock for me. Theyve had the time to see their successes and failures, and now its time to make the right things happen going forward.

Less than a month ago the kid flat out said he had no idea what he was looking at when he watched film. His numbers were horrible during fall practice and we lost our bye because of the hurricane.

With virtually no time to get him meaningful practice snaps, how can you possibly think he was in any way ready to succeed against two of the best defenses ing he country?

Patke. Hes the LB coach now, he kind of was before. He has no experience as a coach before this, he was just a dude working for the program doing his mid-level job. Im not sure if hes an elite recruiter or not, but every kid I saw him with this last bit of recruiting decided to go somewhere else. I was really hoping Richt would go outside of his own program. It'd show me that he's the kind of guy that a) is open to new ideas, b) doesnt consider himself to be the smartest man in the room and c) wants the finest coaching staff in the country. Instead we got a guy that will most likely be like Rumph, a work in progress.

Im not concerned with LB. For one, I dont think they jump, they are smaller and dont have amazing 40 times. Second, the numbers make sense right now, we have a Freshman and a redshirt freshman. Next year we only need 2 playable freshmen, hopefully we can find some really good talent there, a Jermaine Grace and a Denzel Perryman or better. If we can get a 3rd to redshirt, thats even better.

RCCF

Georgia coach Kirby Smart bolstered his loaded class with Campbell, who chose the Bulldogs over Alabama and Miami.

In addition to Campbell, the Dawgs have added ESPN 300 prospects Tommy Bush, Quay Walker and Otis Reese to fend off the other programs aiming for the top spot in the team rankings.

The 6-foot-3, 181-pound cornerback gives Georgia three five-star commitments -- joining No. 1 overall recruit Justin Fields and defensive end Brenton Cox (No. 11).

"When I went to Georgia, I felt comfortable," Campbell told ESPN on Wednesday. "It was a place that I could see myself playing at. The coaches ... I feel like the great coaching staff could help better me to get to that next level. That's why I picked them.

"[Smart] showed me a bunch of love. I just felt he was keeping it real with me from the get-go. It's just up to me to put the work in if I want to get on the field early as a freshman."

Campbell is the No. 2-ranked corner in this class, behind Surtain, and is the 12th commitment for Georgia ranked in the top five at his position. The Bulldogs now have landed four ESPN 300 prospects from the state of Florida.

Surtain was down to Alabama and LSU but seemingly had the Tigers in the lead for quite some time. Alabama and Miami came on late in his recruitment, and he visited both schools in January.

"Why Alabama? Because of the coach over there," Surtain said of Nick Saban. "They win championships. Over here, we're used to winning, so I want to be a part of that winning culture."

Much Easier to get LB's than DL.. not really worried about LB's

Herbieibis

While you are scratching your head worry about all these DB scenarios, what if all 3 LB’S leave, who’s taking their spot? Need more star power there as well. If they leave all that’s left is Joiner, Perry, Wilder, Steady and Jennings, all 3’S and not a whole lot of pt so far.
I don’t think the class is a failure, i’m Pissed that we didn’t have s back-up plan. We really have never been a signing day hit parade, that’s usually FSU that some how can do the Waffle House special of flipping people, which they did today. They snatched Briggs and Clark 2 players that we thought we had. U just don’t fall short when u have 27 to 28 ships to hand out. All positions should have been stocked. We now have 6 cbs and we should have 8. The problem there is our depth is going to be freshmen. At safety we have J.J., Redwine, Finley, Knowles, Carter, Smith and probably Blades. We lose 4 db’s next year we bring in 5 because of the numbers. We bring in 3 DE’S and 2 to 3 DT’S, and 2 to 3 LB’S once again because of the numbers. If Joe has a good year, then both Jackson’s will be gone. Got to prepare for the what ifs.

RCCF

So are we gonna say that "Rumph didn't make Surtain Jr., and Campbell?"

RCCF

Who are the likely position flips outside of DeeJay?

UpNorthCane27

Campbell with the dumbest statement in a long time....i cant name the last Georgia db to do anything recently last one they had was champ bailey.

WWIN

Rumph develops players...

Tyson Campbell on his choice to pick UGA... they develop players and can better prepare him for the next level!

🔫🔫🔫

RCCF

Romeo Finley Jr.
Trajan Bandy Soph.
Amari Carter Soph.
Robert Knowles RS Jr.

All Returning.... so After this year we are looking at 2 JR's and 2 SR's
Now Add in the Pups... We are Good at DB, and there are more coming

PapaCane

Final thoughts on his signing day thing.

I like everyone else gets caught up on who signed where and when today.

But for me, it's over now.

We have perhaps the best skill position class in the whole country and addressed massive needs at RB, QB, TE, OL, DT and even DB.

Yes, losing the Heritage DBs sucked, but when Surtain picked Bama, a school he had virtually ZERO relationship with just a few weeks ago, it again reaffirmed there are forces at work out there we can't control.

At this point, continuing to complain about those two kids starts to feel like a slap in the face to all the Top 5-10 national players we signed who committed early and never, ever waivered.

Nearly all thos guys came in early and are currently busting their asses to bring us a chamiopnship. That's who I care about going forward.

We are going to finish with a loaded Top 10 class, I happy and ready for spring football.

It is a really good class. Its the first year you can say Miami did what they came to do. We missed on some whales, but we were never in a position where we had to have those guys. We as a team just need to keep our heads down and work our tails off.

Go Canes!!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Porter: Miami's class, as it stands now, rated No. 4 by 247Sports, No. 5 by Rivals and No. 7 by ESPN.

Miami has the ACC recruiting crown on lock, wrapping that up for the first time since 2008. Meanwhile, Georgia has the national recruiting crown on lock, ending Alabama's long run of being No. 1

No offense but thats dumb.

Rumph: HC High School, CBs Miami

Tucker:

DBs at LSU, Ohio State, Alabama
DC at UGA, and 3 NFL stops, also an NFL HC.

How well Miami CBs did is irrelevant.

Just depends I suppose, how big is Honey Badger? Its great if he comes back, that gives us an extra elite player in 2020, our CBs should look like this...

1. SR Bandy
2. JR Ivey
3. JR Frierson
4. *SO Bethel
5. SO Johnny 4*
6. SO Jimmy 4*
7. FR Jerry 4*
8. FR Joey 4*

Should our top 3 go pro look at what we would have coming back.

1. *JR Bethel
2. JR Johnny 4*
3. JR Jimmy 4*
4. SO Jerry 4*
5. SO Joey 4*
6. FR Jeffery 4*
7. FR Jaime 4*

Thats how depth works. Bottom up. You lose a kid to injury, you just stack it from the bottom.
