Sophomore Evan McKendry helped Miami capture its first series victory over Virginia since 2009, racking up 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 win Saturday night Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
A night after senior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt set the tone with 7.2 innings in a walk-off win, the Hurricanes (11-11, 5-3 ACC) received a career long-tying seven innings from its star sophomore.
McKendry (4-2), who entered the game with the highest strikeout-per-nine ratio among starting pitchers in the ACC, tied a career high with 12 more punchouts in a dominating performance.
Miami's pitching staff has held the Cavaliers (13-9, 3-5 ACC) to nine hits in a combined 20.0 innings in the first two games of the series. The Hurricanes, whose last series sweep over the Cavaliers came in 2008, will go for their first such weekend of the spring Sunday at 1 p.m.
First!?!?!

WHAT???
Posted by: 86Cane | March 24, 2018 at 11:41 PM
LIKE I WAS SAYING...
Richt has said Donaldson will move from guard to tackle only if there’s a pressing need.
Gauthier said Donaldson has "lost weight" and is "moving a little quicker."

Great blog title Tom.
Would love to see Jim Morris go out like a Pit Bull!

Not sure about him achieving "Pit Bull" status, but I would settle for a big, angry, barking dawg about now!

The TE position is a train wreck-Irvin is a bust and with 2 great frosh coming in looks ok -but you never know what your going to get
Why aren't we looking at the grad transfer from USF TE Kano Dillon

We already bought our tickets for the LSU game. Now, we are trying to find a hotel, but everything is pretty much booked. Are there any rooms left in the Canespace block of rooms?

BWC...if Rosier starts next year we are nowhere near where we need to be at QB and it will be another lost season. If Perry can't win the starting QB job he was WAY over-hyped and will probably transfer.

When building, no season is lost where Miami beats FSU. When building, no season is lost winning the Coastal. Enjoy this time as much as you can, we are going to have a nice season again. The defense will be better than last year, and even better in 2019. I suspect we will see more power running in 2018, it may be the key to the season even. We're gonna beat FSU, so that will be fun. We're gonna win the Coastal, so that will be fun. We're going to play Clemson a lot tougher next year, and who knows, maybe we pull off the upset. This isnt Al Golden or Randy Shannon. The Coastal is ours from now on. Its only a matter of time until we are good enough to topple the ACC.

Winning the Coastal and Winning 10 games sure beating the worst FSU team in 40 years naw plays U can do better than that and the fact you mentioned that first invalidates your post.love ya man but VT and ND were the 2 best wins of last year and it's not close.

Canes Sweep Cavaliers to go 6-3 in ACC and 13-12 overall. Go Canes!

We are going to beat FSU again, and Idgaf how bad they were after beating us 7 times in a row. If you cant be happy over last season's overall progress report, then you are a stick in the mud.
Gray is working as a FB now... very interesting because he's got the body for it. Running behind a FB is going to be a feature at Miami again... lots of play action and throws to the TEs Im guessing.
Next year, we may drop 1 regular season game, then go to ACC CG, then win a bowl, a solid 11-2 season, with Perry looking like a Heisman candidate. Biggest losses going into 2019 will be Jaquan, M. Jackson, J. Jackson, Willis & Richards. We will be fine having replaced them with Hall, Ivey & Frierson, Rousseau, Nesta. WR isnt an issue, the cupboard is filled to the brim. 2019 is our best chance barring serious injury.

The Canes will likely be favored in every regular season football game in 2018. If the Canes just take care of business and win the games they should, the Canes will be in the national championship conversation entering the 2018 ACC-CG.
IMO, the Canes need to stay healthy and avoid the injuries they had last season. Added depth will help a lot. Returning players are a lot more talented than the players they are replacing. The new freshmen are the best Canes recruiting class in two decades, and they will add to the depth of the previous CMR recruiting classes.

Well played. Now about the execution...
Posted by: 86Cane | March 25, 2018 at 09:01 PM
I should restate: It was not a lost season.
But it will be a lost cause IF Rosier starts again.
It just simply can't be THAT bad at QB?
Posted by: 86Cane | March 25, 2018 at 09:03 PM
Looks like Perry is playing a lot more poised and in command through the first week of spring practice.
Imo he will be firmly in place as the starter by the end of fall camp.

I'm hoping to go. If so, the streak is on the line.
Miami has never lost a game that I have attended. Football, basketball, or baseball.

Im not even buying that. We can do better, or even the same 10-3 with Rosier, and it still isnt necessarily a lost season. We need to be respectable, hang around in the top 10 most of the year, pull in another top 5 class, and most of all, get some OL play clicking. 2019 is the key anyways. That will be the first time we should be looking for playoffs. If if if Rosier is the QB its fine, but Perry or Weldon has to get reps. We cant go into 2019 with questions at QB.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 12:32 AM
Rosier just needs to complete about 59%. Thats only a 5% increase, it could come with simple confidence. He also needs to put teams away and have fewer TOs (Also confidence). That doesnt mean a bunch of td throws, but it does mean some 3rd down throws and being more accurate overall. If Richards is a 1st round pick... Miami is gonna be alright on O.

Man you have lost your mind.
That is a loser mentality.
Some seriously weak minded shyte.
Take that and stuff it in your pillow.
You WANT Rosier to be your QB?
Choke on that!
