Well it appears that somebody may have got upset about blowing a 6 run lead in the ninth inning recently? Only time will tell but it looks promising.
Junior Andrew Cabezasimpressed in his second straight Sunday start, and the Hurricanes finished off their first sweep of Virginia since 2008 with an 8-1 win at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
Cabezas, who was moved to the rotation prior to the team's series at Duke last weekend, was in control from the outset against the No. 24 Cavaliers.
The fiery righthander went six innings for the second time in a week, helping clinch Miami's first sweep of the spring and marking Virginia's first time being swept on the road since March 2015.
Cabezas struck out a season-high eight batters. He walked two, scattered three hits and surrendered just one run in a 90-pitch effort. While Cabezas (2-2) was sharp again , he was also the benefactor of some early offense for the second straight weekend.
The Hurricanes (12-11, 6-3 ACC), who scored seven runs in support of Cabezas last Sunday, plated four runs in the game's first two innings to jump out to an early 4-0 lead against the Cavaliers (13-10, 3-6 ACC).
"Knowing my teammates picked me up and scored those early runs, it made me a lot looser," Cabezas said. "I was attacking the zone a lot more. It's something I should be doing regardless but the fact that my team responded as quick as they did gives you much more confidence."
Freshman Isaac Quinones led the charge offensive with his third straight multi-hit game (2-for-4). Seven of Miami's nine starters had at least one hit, as the Hurricanes out-hit the Cavaliers for the third straight game.
It was Quinones who put Miami on the board in the first with a two-out, two-run double.
The Hurricanes strung three straight two-out hits off Virginia starter Bobby Nicholson (1-1) to take the lead. Singles from seniors Hunter Tackett and Michael Burnsset the stage for Quinones, who drove a 1-2 pitch to left field to score both runners.
"I was looking for one pitch, really. I sat back, waited on the pitch I was looking for and got an inside fastball," Quinones said.
As he has done countless occasions over the past three weeks as Miami's starting catcher, Quinones delivered in a big spot.
"It feels great," he said. "I knew getting a two-out hit, from the start, could get us going and get the energy going. I knew we would have the right momentum."
Now that's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, we like it!
Boom!

Like I was saying...anyone hell bent on Star gazing needs to remember joe Jackson, Garvin and Ford were 3 Stars according to some recruiting services.
Miami must replace Chad Thomas and Trent Harris from its 12th-ranked defense, but Jonathan Garvin is ready for a starting spot.
"The guy's just a freak of nature," fellow D-end Joe Jackson told Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post. "Speed. Strength. Power. He's very consistent. He's got the work ethic. He's probably the fastest person I've seen develop in college football."
Coming from Jackson, who recorded 23 tackles for loss with 15 sacks through his first two seasons, that's considerable praise.
Garvin played limited snaps behind the deep unit in 2017, but he still notched a pair of strip-sacks in consecutive games against Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. He recovered both fumbles, too.

Huh?
FIU just announced the hiring of Ken Dorsey as assistant athletic director.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | March 26, 2018 at 04:03 PM
FIU = UM West???
Florida International University announced on Monday that it has hired former University of Miami standout quarterback Ken Dorsey to be its assistant athletic director. Dorsey, 36, will start in April.
“We are very fortunate to be able to add Ken Dorsey to both the football program and the athletic department staff,” FIU executive director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia said in a release. “He will work closely with both Butch Davis and myself.”
During his four years at Miami from 1999 to 2002, Dorsey was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and threw for 9,565 yards, which was the school record until Brad Kaaya topped the mark in 2016. Dorsey led the Hurricanes to the 2001 BCS national championship and a national title berth in 2002.

I don't know about snoozing and losing. If he's an assistant AD, that should be very different from a QB coach or assistant offensive coordinator. It's sounds like more a desk than a field job.

FIU is working its tail off to get to pimple on UM's ass status.

Always loved KEN DORSEY and RANDY SHANNON. Just the best statement from Shannon and delighted that Dorsey landed the FIU position. He gave his all for the U, and I don't think Randy got a lot of respect. Just my observation.

We are finally moving this train forward, picking up speed every year. Eventually, we will reach a point where Richt has a team that can compete. 2018 wont be that team because Richt is not an Xs and Os genius. We just all have to be patient enough to enjoy the process, so you choke on that.

No, no, no. This is GREAT news for Miami. This is exactly where we want Dorsey, coaching under the great Butch Davis. If Richt cant get it done, Dorsey could have the resume & experience to come in and get a job.

JMO, but I think this is not a good career move for DORSEY. This basically puts him on a different track, as DORSEY will not be coaching next season. I wonder why Butch wouldn’t hire him as OC or QB coach? IMO, Dorsey should have held out for another coaching job. This is not a coaching job. We will see how this goes, but I think Dorsey should get back into coaching.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | March 26, 2018 at 08:00 PM
No one wanted him as a coach, which adds some evidence to my suspicion that Dorsey was just hanging out on the staff/team, chit chatting with Cam. Butch is high level coaching, he will learn every day how to run a practice, how to organize recruiting, how to motivate players, etc. This is the best thing foe Dorsey as his career had hit a brick wall. He will be around the team in his role, and if Butch can show him the coaching light, he will be a very good position coach and maybe OC in a few years. Why didnt Butch hire him as an OC, because Butch hires capable people, and Kenny wasnt capable. I believe Dorsey has a long ways to go to be coach material, and there is no better way to learn the ins and outs than working for Butch Davis. Its a slam dunk career move for # 11.

SLAM DUNK for Ken Dorsey. Best move he could have made. If he wants to be a coach, this is his chance to learn what it takes. If not, he'll go down the admin side of things, still good news for Miami down the road. Dorsey was never ready to be an OC, he was barely a QB coach imo.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 08:27 PM
Butch Davis
Pete Garcia
Kenny Dorsey
That a pretty good brain trust and name recognition to start for building a UM West. I know, I know...the critics will say, "FIU will never be equal to UM."
To those I say there was once a team called UCF. They could never be anything big, or taken seriously, or be ranked, or go undefeated.
And even IF they did once they met a real SEC powerhouse team they would be shown how the big boys play and be crushed like a grape.
Remind me, what was the outcome of their bowl game against Auburn? While Miami was getting smoked by Clemson and beat down by Whisky the Golden Knights were doing what to AUBURN???

1. because Richt is not an Xs and Os genius.
2. We just all have to be patient enough to enjoy the process.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 07:08 PM
So let's summarize what we have learned here:
1. Richt is not going to win any IQ contests as a coach.
2. We have to be patient.
Can you please tell Scott Frost and UCF fans that? They went from 0-12 and 0-8 under O'leary in the conference in 2015 to 13-0 and 8-0 under Frost in year TWO and beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl in 2017.
Yes, clearly we need to be "patient".

Posted by: 86Cane | March 26, 2018 at 08:52 PM
Scott Frost has way more Xs & Os IQ than Richt. We didnt hire Scott Frost, we hired Mark Richt. We hired slowly build for success, thats the reality of the situation and its starting to show some results.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 09:01 PM
Let’s see what Scott Frost can do in Nebraska. Frost recruited speed here in Florida, and great QB from Hawaii. Let’s see if he can replicate that success in the frigid north

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 09:01 PM
Fair enough. I can accept that.
Just don't act like it can't be done sooner and in a place that was a complete dumpster fire (0-12) with no history of winning BIG in a less desirable location.
Our slogan for this year: "We Ride With Richt"
Posted by: 86Cane | March 26, 2018 at 10:00 PM
If Richt had hired a brilliant OC, we'd be a lock for the ACC CG, and we'd have a good chance at beating Clemson. No matter who we hired, it was a minimum 3 year turn around for a title at Miami, too many programs in the ACC were further along than we were. I dont think we'll get that title next year, but I do think we'll beat LSU & FSU in prime time, and stay relevant all year. Miami will be sniffing playoffs most of the season. Thats a huge turn around for us. While UCF's turn around under Frost was impressive, they (UCF) didnt have a very tough schedule, that does make it easier to go undefeated and keeps you healthy for games like Auburn.

Living up here in Idaho I saw almost every game Boise State played with Kellen Moore at QB, that team on any given night could beat anyone, but dont fool yourself, they would have have a loss or 2 or 3 if they had to play in a major conference. Yes they beat VT and UGA, they played smart as heck, their top 30 players were mostly JRs and SRs, but after that, they were a bunch of 2* guys lifting weights, bidding their time.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 10:15 PM
Last thing I'll say until others have their chance, I believe that our defense has only begun to flex their muscle. That night against Notre Dame will be the norm next year. They'll start by holding LSU to 13 or less. Offense will score 20 to 27 by the 3rd qtr, and we may get a late TD. Orgeron's seat will be red hot.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 10:32 PM

Porter: Mark Richt said on WQAM yesterday LB Zach McCloud wasn’t practicing but didn’t elaborate. A UM spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comment. We’ll likely find out later this a.m. — Richt scheduled to speak after spring practice No. 4.

FYI if any other Canespacers are making the trip to Arlington Texas for Labor Day Weekend for the LSU Game and need a room. Speak Up Now so I can get a legitimate head count. I still have like 10 rooms available at this point and that offer will be in place until August 17th at that point whatever rooms that have not been spoken for will be released. Lingard is going to be a special player!!!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | March 27, 2018 at 03:44 PM
TBC, I agree.
From a size, speed and athleticism standpoint, Lingard is the most talented RB in Miami since Magahee. I saw him hanging around UM during camps last summer, and he is the real deal. Once he figures things out, he will be a RB that has the big-play ability to change the entire offense. Lingard will make the OL and the QB look that much better.
With this much talent, IMO, the Canes will score 40 points a game.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | March 27, 2018 at 04:14 PM
BWC we ain't scoring 40 points a game with Malik Rollercoaster as our Starter. We can have the best offensive talent ever assembled but completing 45% against quality teams ain't gonna cut it UN UN UN.
