City? Another Premhead on Canespace, how unfortunate!

BigWindyCane1

Canes commitments after hosting underclassmen today include:

2020
Tampa Jesuit TE Dominic Mammarelli
Miami Central CB HENRY Gray

2021

Miami Central offensive lineman Laurence Seymor
Monsignor Pace LB/S James Williams

BigWindyCane1

The Canes are really tearing it up on the recruiting trail. The Canes are on fire 🔥 today! As Baez would say, “THE BLOCK IS HOT!" Lots of high-profile recruits giving their pledge to the Canes today!

BigWindyCane1

Dude, Coach Duggans has gotten it done since he stepped on campus. Duggans first got Richards to stick with the Canes, and each year since, he stacks the Canes with 4 and 5 star talent. 2019 and 2020 WR classes are also loaded. Duggans also has shown he can develop talent, getting three stars to make big plays for the Canes. Glad CMR found a way to keep him from going to Tallahassee. That would have been a devastating loss

^^^ One of the best coaches on the staff coaching them up. Coach Dugs has stacked WRs like this is Alabama. Should he ever leave, the new guy will be standing on 3rd base. We are in a position now where we can cherry pick WRs.

Okay QBs and OL, the team is waiting on you.

Good stuff. He needs to stop stunting on running downs also, it has at times taken our linemen out of position. I do think the soft cover 3 is turnover fishing. He tries to have the nickel CB play the passing lane, seems clear to me. The problem is he's had to go to the well too often and its not working as well, in fact I can sit at home and call it frequently, if I can do that, so can an offensive coordinator. Im expecting another year winning the Coastal, outside of that I'm not sure.

TruCane81

Last thing I'll say until others have their chance, I believe that our defense has only begun to flex their muscle. That night against Notre Dame will be the norm next year. They'll start by holding LSU to 13 or less. Offense will score 20 to 27 by the 3rd qtr, and we may get a late TD. Orgeron's seat will be red hot.

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | March 26, 2018 at 10:32 PM

Diaz is KEY to the whole thing. If he reroutes interior receivers at the line, our defense will keep us in it against anybody not ultra elite like bama and Clemson.

His overblitzing and soft zone made our d good when it was on the edge of greatness. I think he develops players well. He just doesn’t understand you can’t over blitz the spread. It was created to beat the zone blitzes and freak d linemen.

Teams beat them with quick passes our offense does not use enough. We have the talent, just not the depth and overall experience. But if we stop allowing bum ass quarterbacks to instantly see easy mismatches and throw the ball in one and a half seconds, we can be special.

Our best pass d was with Bandy in the nickel. It must have been weak against the run in practice because we did not use it nearly enough.

I know Dude thought the cover 3 soft zone was fishing for turnovers but I think it is a combo of Diaz’s philosophy and to stop the run. Our turnover defense is cover 2 zone press and cover one rerouting interior receivers AT THE LINE. That is the defense that suffocates our opponents and create turnover opportunities. I saw that even with those beautiful picks Mike Jackson got in cover 3 lol.

It has been along time since I have been uncertain like this. This defense can be really good or really bad. Just depends on which Diaz shows up. I hope the vt - nd version and not the ran out Texas version. I don’t expect the Texas version of Diaz but our horrible 3rd down defense is a HUGE red flag.

It is weird. Our offense and defense have the same problem. Bad third down performance due to bad quick passing strategy/ execution. It is because we are still behind the times a little bit strategically. It can be fixed though. I hope 2018 is the year it happens.

I take these all as good news:

Rozier - Having a solid camp, clearly healthy now

Perry - Improved, more confident, has not hit ceiling

Weldon - Improved, knows the offense.

Williams - Wildcard - may end up further along at the end of the summer than Weldon or Perry were at the close of August 2017

According to the coaches Jhavonte Dean has stepped it up, great news if you ask me. We're gonna open with a good group of Jackson, Bandy and Dean, while mixing in Ivey and Frierson who are also playing impressively for freshmen. Is Blades on campus right now? Ive always had him pegged at Safety.

Terrance Sullivan

Come on Jarren Williams. Need to be the Guy.

CaneRock

▪ Quarterback N’Kosi Perry has improved, but one observer said his deep ball is not as good as Malik Rosier’s even though Perry’s arm is excellent.

Perry sometimes spins out of trouble when he’s under pressure and ends up turning his back on a play — in other words toward his own backfield. But that can be corrected.

And there has been overall growth in his game. He’s playing more relaxed.

“It seems like some first-year quarterbacks, they’re not vocal because they don’t want to say the wrong thing,” center Tyler Gauthier said last week. “Now, you can tell he’s more assertive. He’s going to walk in there and he wants eyes on him in the huddle. He’s going to make a play call and we’re going to run it and that’s the way it’s going to be. It’s definitely good to see him step up as a leader like that.”

Rosier has a solid camp. He made one of the best plays in camp, avoiding a blitz, ducking out of traffic and running for a touchdown of close to 40 yards.

Jarren Williams has impressed everyone with his arm strength but must learn to vary the speed on his throws. Mark Richt previously said he doesn’t expect Williams to challenge for the starting job this spring but that he might in August.

One UM official said Cade Weldon clearly has improved. He’s big, strong, can throw on the run and has a good grasp of the offense.

Its awesome because it also has surveys of topography so you can see what Union positions or Confederate positions actually looked like on the day of each battle. Im always open to new books though if you have any recommendations.

To hear Mark Walton say that Lingard has great vision is very encouraging. Vision is one of the attributes of a great running back. You can’t see that in camps, only when they suit up. If true, Lingard definitely will be exciting to watch for the next three seasons

Old Skool

Hope the removal of lymph nodes was prophylactic. If the cancer was there, not good news.

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly underwent a 12-hour operation Wednesday to remove oral cancer and have his upper jaw reconstructed.

According to ESPN.com's Mike Rodak, Dr. Mark Urken said the surgery was a success: "We successfully removed Mr. Kelly's cancer from his upper jaw and lymph nodes from his neck. We then reconstructed his upper jaw. Mr. Kelly is resting comfortably post-operatively."

Also just wondering... Have you ever read that someone was "resting uncomfortably"? Is it even possible to rest if you're uncomfortable?

Old Skool

There's politically correct. Well prepare for physically correct.

Might as well change team names to flowers. We could soon have the New York Pansies versus the Cincinnati Daffodils.

The following is from CNN

The targeting rule will be even tougher to handle. The NFL doesn't want it called that, preferring helmet-hitting rule because of the negative connotations of targeting. But targeting, it is.

Where to place the helmet during a tackle is a decision made in milliseconds. And sometimes there is no decision-making process at all. It's just instinct.

A targeting foul is now defined by the NFL to have occurred when "a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent." The rule passed 32-0.

Fans need to understand something. The rule will dramatically change how the sport looks and is played. The game will be far less physical.

BigWindyCane1

TBC,
It looks like we aren’t the only ones impressed by Lingard’s potential. Mark Walton also feels strongly about Lingard: “He [Lingard] is going to be one hell of a player,” Walton said. “Once he learns the offense, he is going to be a very special talent.”

NFL UNVEILS RADICAL NEW SAFETY RULES

CANTON, OH (UT)

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell unveiled a series of new safety initiatives that have shaken the professional football world to it's core. The most fundamental alteration is that players will now be required to walk, and that any speed above a "brisk pace" would result in a 15 yard penalty and substantial fine. Additionally, uniforms would now be encased with "omni-padding", a new invention from South Florida that contains pockets of air within sheets of plastic. Finally, much as celebrations were deemed unworthy of the game, touchdowns themselves will now be done away with. Field goals will now be the sole means of scoring, and any games that are tied at the end of a game will remain tied. "We have to compete with soccer," said Goodell on the last point. "Fans of that sport thrill to the drama of low scores and even tied scores, and we must step up our game to ensure that we can overtake what I would call 'real football'."

Only Perry can get it to Richards the way we need it to get there, on a rope. Its up to Perry now, he's got to master at least a section of that play book and become a leader. If not, we will be relying on Rosier to hit 59% and cut the INTs down to less than 10. Either way, it needs to be another solid 10 win season, with another haul in recruiting. Eventually there will be 4* after 4* offensive linemen in the trenches and we can start running teams over.

86, I think that once Richards and Herndon went down in the Pitt game, coupled with the earlier loss of Walton...CM Richt and his staff took a realistic look at the roster and realized that they did not have the horsepower to win a NC. If so, why burn the redshirt?

I would rather have had Coker burn a year of Gore's eligibility in 2002 for the NC game...then it would have made a difference.

IMO, Perry will be the QB-1. Just watching both QBs throw, it’s not really much of a competition. Of course, you never know what you have until the scrimmages, but Perry looks like an elite QB throwing the football, while Rosier, Weldon and Williams look good, but not as good as Perry. If Perry can read defenses and pick up the playbook, he will be QB-1 and this offense will score a lot. It will be an elite college football offense by mid season.

Follow that up with this video of DJD:

Its so nice to have a staff that recognizes this. They are making sure that the kids understand the legacy of Miami's player lead teams. The kids are starting to understand.

Soon I hope, probably against LSU, we are going to see that bit of a leadership spark on O. That simple thing could be all it takes to make Miami a force.

BigWindyCane1

TBC, I agree.

From a size, speed and athleticism standpoint, Lingard is the most talented RB in Miami since Magahee. I saw him hanging around UM during camps last summer, and he is the real deal. Once he figures things out, he will be a RB that has the big-play ability to change the entire offense. Lingard will make the OL and the QB look that much better.

With this much talent, IMO, the Canes will score 40 points a game.
