WWIN, HRD, TBC, all think MR is All World and the reason for the team success. Everyone drink it in Man lol.

Terrance Sullivan

Lol 10 games in a row with a Injured shoulder the UNC game was number 6 in a 13 game season. WWIN with the Fake News. Bruh this ridiculous pandering you are doing is beyond embarrassing. That Tennessee Education must be basura!

WWIN

TBC all day long...

He also didn't play 10 games in a row and play with a injured throwing shoulder

WWIN

No holes to run through = 2nd, 3rd and longs
No pass protection = less time to throw, too many QB hits, happy feet, rushed throws, more incompletions and interceptions...

Give me the elite OL and DL as a foundation everytime...

WWIN

TBC yea okay with the excuse making. The line was basically the same in 2015, 2016, 2017. But I digress lol.

Guess we made it to the ACCCG and had more wins in 2015, 2016, and 2017 right? Thanks for the comic relief! 🤣🤣🤣

WWIN

Thanks WWIN!

Sinister, I've yet to see anything from the current regime that matched the time management in that bowl game against California.

Oh, God, I forgot about that guy!!!

thirstybuzzardcane

LOL, big T!

SinisterCane

NoO makes Patrick Nix look like Mike Martz

Terrance Sullivan

TBC stop the crap. Both were Turnover machines so the next thing is completion percentage but both are pretty much the same C level QB'S. I will slightly give Malik the edge tho.

Terrance Sullivan

TBC after total review I say Malik is marginally better than Alex. U are correct both are pedestrian QB's.

Go Canes!!

And if your o line is elite it will 100% confirm your QB is garbage.

thirstybuzzardcane

No doubt, CoCane!

CoCane

If the OL is garbage, you'll never know the QB is elite

So all your comparing just on completion percentage? Wisconsin QB was a second year starter, Rosier was a first. Did you see his completion percentage as a starter in 2016?

thirstybuzzardcane

Who cares about Wisconsin's QB.

The question was why were they good.

They were good because of their defense, not because of their QB or their offensive line.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | May 16, 2018 at 07:13 PM

Shyt, I thought you were going to say it was because of their schedule!

Terrance Sullivan

Wisconsin QB also completes 62% of his passes to Malik 54%. Wisconsin QB is marginally better both are pedestrian!

thirstybuzzardcane

What would the Wisconsin QB be like if he played behind an OL like ours? Our OL is the achilles heal on our team! They've been bad for years!

thirstybuzzardcane

Lol Wisconsin QB is better than Malik The End.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 16, 2018 at 05:11 PM

Malik had one more TD pass and one less int than him. Malik also had 500 more passing yards and 500 more rushing yards. How do you figure he's better?

Terrance Sullivan

CGNC that's a Big 10-4

Go Canes!!

If Im asked where would I like to start, with a great QB or a great OL, I'll pick the OL all day.

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | May 16, 2018 at 04:55 PM

Who has a better year in 2018 for the Miami Hurricanes?

Our offensive line with any of these QBs under center:

Deshaun Watson
Cardele Jones
Jamies Winston
Cam Newton
Tim Tebow
Leak/Tebow
Vince Young

Or replace our offensive line with the best one in America and put Malik under center?

I think you know the answer to that question.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | May 16, 2018 at 04:57 PM

Wisconsin was good because they had the #2 overall defense in the country.

TBC shot the Sherriff, but he will not shoot the Rosier?

86Cane

Tim Tebow an elite thrower of the football, or a system QB in an elite system?

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | May 16, 2018 at 02:29 PM

Tim Tebow = Best QB Ever!

Wait, check that, hold on a minute, I am getting a text message telling me to agree with HRD?

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 16, 2018 at 03:06 PM

Im not disagreeing with you, youre being disingenuous if you think having a better OL wouldnt make us more competitive and would help out the QB and the play caller. A lot of the reason Rosier's numbers are bad is that we are in a bad spot, 3rd and long, too often. We know Malik isnt going to convert that on the regular.

thirstybuzzardcane

Nice to change the subject because you know I am right. Secondly Sherriff was God Awful total agreement.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 16, 2018 at 03:03 PM

Just because you say it it's right? Ok, my man!

Terrance Sullivan

HRD if you are going to use the Alabama Model dont be disingenius. I mean The Alabama QB's weren't Turnover Machine and Inaccurate. All of them complete 60% or better and all of them were on average 27 or 28 TD's to like 7 INT's. I will repeat Malik Rosier 26 TD's 14 INT's 54% completion percentage. but that's the model you use lol. Man Yall are on fire today.

Terrance Sullivan

Nice to change the subject because you know I am right. Secondly Sherriff was God Awful total agreement.

Go Canes!!

An elite QB can make an average o-line look great.

I don’t think an average QB, especially an innacurate one, can do the same to a good o-line.

thirstybuzzardcane

If someone told me that I would win 10 games with a FIRST year starter, I would take that everyday!

You guys make it sound like we had Sherriff as our starting QB the whole year! Now that guy was terrible!

Terrance Sullivan

TBC yea okay with the excuse making. The line was basically the same in 2015, 2016, 2017. But I digress lol.

thirstybuzzardcane

If you have a bad offensive line, a Qb's completion percentage and TD/turnover ratio will suffer dramatically!

Any coach will tell your success starts in the trenches!

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 16, 2018 at 12:21 PM

Show me where anyone said that? Having an outstanding OL will take you far in CF, and in the NFL. We know this as Hurricane fans, we were crazy good with Ken Dorsey at QB. I dont want to slam him, he had good attributes also, but that OL gave him time for days, and frequently got elite backs to the second level. Play calling also will take you far, exactly as the names Go Canes listed, was Tim Tebow an elite thrower of the football, or a system QB in an elite system?

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: Go Canes!! | May 16, 2018 at 12:10 PM

This is a really good point. I guess I am looking at it from the Alabama point of view. I guess we can all agree then, that being elite in any one of the 3 things will take you far. Why we arent as good as we can be is because those 3 things, are the 3 things that we arent very good at.

lol it some comedians in the house. funny i didn't see the same stuff said a couple of years ago. U guys are funny. Thanks for the laughs tho.

thirstybuzzardcane

1) Offensive line. A monster offensive line is the most important thing in football.
2) Play calling.
3) QB.

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | May 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM

I concur!

Terrance Sullivan

Lol so being a Turnover Machine Inaccurate QB is no problem lol. Pure Comedy.

Go Canes!!

I’d rank them:

1) QB
2) QB
3) QB

Well not to that extreme but outside of Bama all the other recent national champs had these guys under center:

Deshaun Watson
Cardele Jones
Jamies Winston
Cam Newton
Tim Tebow
Leak/Tebow
Vince Young

So basically unless you have the #1 recruiting class every single year for a decade straight, you better have a MAJOR difference maker at quarterback.

Herbieibis

Go, Qb. Got to have field manager, who is smart and doesn't turn the ball over.
Next play calling. No matter how bad or average the Line is, u can mask some of those problems with play calling. Richy, in The Herb's humble opinion is to conservative at times.
Last is the O-Line. We do have some talent there and although we are lacking at the tackle position, we have enough to be good with the first 2 clicking.

His Royal Dudeness

How would you rank them in order of importance?

Herbieibis

We have 3 problems: one, play calling, two that O-Line and three, QB other than that everything should be graveyard!

86Cane

if Richt can get the O where it needs to be, solid, we are going to win a bunch more games.

That's right, still pitching the story that I never, ever, ever once criticized Golden and always said everything he did was perfect!

You have that framed next to the WW quarterback rating system, where completing half your passes is great football but hitting 23 of 24 with 4 TDs and no picks is a failing grade.

1. I bet that WWIN's bestie and second cousin once removed, Malik Rosier, is NOT the starting QB come Fall.

2. I bet that Go Canes has a framed poster of Mark Richt over his bed.

Well this could get interesting ...

The principles announced in Monday’s decision may have implications for other kinds of federal laws. When the case was argued in December, Justice Sotomayor said some federal regulation of marijuana could be threatened by a ruling that allows sports betting.

If I had to guess you’ll be able to bet on a New Years bowl game at the two Hard Rocks and any dog/horse track/poker room in Florida.

Old Skool

Meanwhile, Mark Cuban estimates the value of each pro sports team just doubled today.

Old Skool

ESPN expects New Jersey followed by
Delaware, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to quick enable sports betting. I would imagine dog and horse track owners as well as Indian tribes are suddenly increasing their lobbying budgets in Florida.

If you look at Germany and England, sports betting parlors are common in the cities.

Old Skool

In other news ...

The New England Patriots are reportedly hiring martial arts expert Joe Kim to bolster the team's pass rush.

Kim will reportedly help the team's defensive lineman and outside linebackers work on their hand-to-hand combat in pass-rushing situations. In his career, he's filled a similar role for the Browns (three times), Redskins, Bears, Chiefs, Giants, Broncos, Bills, Packers, Cowboys, Dolphins and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Garvin, Ford and Pickney were rated 3 Stars by a lot of services.

Same with Derrick Smith and Amari Carter last year and those two are going to be legit beasts.

As Windy said, so was Rosseau this year.

So when you see a UCF team full of 3 Stars made up mostly of Florida kids, there is likely a lot of talent there.

You can all go back to man crushing on Frost now, just wanted to point that out.

Terrance Sullivan

Great stuff TonyCane!

86Cane

Tony...thanks for doing that. Nice research.

I agree that it takes talent and coaching. To some extent, great talent can hide poor coaching and great coaching can overcome some talent disparity.

One aspect of great coaching is teaching technique and the playbook. Another is game planning. This is where coaches typically fall into two categories.

BigWindyCane1

Good stuff TonyCane. Certainly, on average, the more 4 and 5 star players you have, the more you should win. However, coaching and player development plays an important role, and UCF does underscore that point.

DMoney had a pretty good article on this point. DMoney pointed out that every year, a bunch of 2-star and 3-star recruits get picked in the first round. This year, DMoney did some research to find out: (1) why they were underrated, and (2) what Canes fans can learn from their evaluations. DMoney noticed four general themes that emerged in his evaluations:

* Played multiple positions in HS

* Weight doesn’t matter (height and movement skills are more important)

* Pay attention to bloodlines

* Motor is a must

DMoney notices that "three-star Greg Roussseau checks a lot of these boxes."

TonyCane

TonyCane...can you please research how many 4-5 star players UCF had and how many Auburn had when they played last year in the bowl game?

Posted by: 86Cane | May 13, 2018 at 10:15 PM

Looking at who actually stayed, who qualified, who transferred in, and who left early would take far too long, so let's stick with who committed to each school between 2014 - 2017:

UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
5 Star Players: None
4 Star Players: 5
3 Star Players: 43
2 Star Players: 29
0 Star Players: 2

UNIVERSITY OF AUBURN
5 Star Players: 7
4 Star Players: 50
3 Star Players: 24
2 Star Players: 8
0 Star Players: None

Obviously there was a very strong gap in talent, even allowing for the fact that Auburn probably had a higher transfer rate than UCF. Frost won on coaching and potentially a disinterested Auburn squad. In UCF's minds, they were playing for an undefeated season and a "national championship". In Auburn's mind...they were playing UCF in a bowl game.

Clearly however both coaching and strong talent are generally needed. The simple fact is that Miami will be fielding it's most talent team on paper in quite some time:

Isolating to five and four star players on the roster each season, removing players that did not qualify:

2006: Five Stars: 4, Four Stars: 30
2007: Five Stars: 2, Four Stars: 24
2008: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 28
2009: Five Stars: 4, Four Stars: 37
2010: Five Stars: 4, Four Stars: 35
2011: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 25
2012: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 18
2013: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 19
2014: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 19
2015: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 25
2016: Five Stars: 2, Four Stars: 25
2017: Five Stars: 2, Four Stars: 27
2018: Five Stars: 3, Four Stars: 35

86Cane

TonyCane...can you please research how many 4-5 star players UCF had and how many Auburn had when they played last year in the bowl game?

86Cane

Do STARS matter?

How many did UCF have when they beat Auburn?
