The Miami Hurricanes were picked to repeat as ACC Coastal Division champions in a poll of media in attendance at the 2018 ACC Kickoff, the conference announced Monday.
Miami was selected the likely Coastal Division winner by 122 voters and amassed 998 total points. Virginia Tech followed with 16 first-place votes and 838 points. Georgia Tech placed third with eight first-place votes and 654 points. Duke totaled 607 points, followed by Pitt at 420, North Carolina at 370 and Virginia at 257.
The Clemson Tigers were picked to repeat as Atlantic Division winners. In the Atlantic preseason voting, the Tigers led the way with 144 first-place votes and 1,030 total points. Florida State followed with 789 points, while NC State had 712. Boston College (545 total points) was tabbed for a fourth-place Atlantic Division finish, followed by Louisville (422), Wake Forest (414) and Syracuse (232).
The Atlantic and Coastal Division winners will meet in the 2018 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on Saturday, December 1, at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium. If this year's media predictions prove correct, it will be a rematch of last year's 2017 title game.

Last year's preseason poll was not a great example of 2017 finish accuracy {bracket indicates actual finish};
ACC Championship
1. Florida State -- 118 {lol no}
2. Clemson -- 35 {1st}
3. Louisville -- 7 {lol no}
T4. Virginia Tech -- 3 {lol no}
T4. Miami -- 3 {2nd}
6. Duke -- 1 {lol no}
Atlantic Division (First place votes in parenthesis)
1. Florida State (121) -- 1,108 {6th}
2. Clemson (37) -- 1,007 {1st}
3. Louisville (9) -- 843 {three way Tie 5th}
4. NC State -- 658 {2nd}
5. Wake Forest -- 415 {T 5th}
6. Syracuse -- 362 {7th}
7. Boston College -- 283 {T 5th}
Coastal Division (First place votes in parenthesis)
1. Miami (103) -- 1,065 {1st}
2. Virginia Tech (40) -- 932 {2nd}
3. Georgia Tech (9) -- 708 {3rd)
4. Pittsburgh (7) -- 673 {three way T 6th}
5. North Carolina (4) -- 606 {7th}
6. Duke (4) -- 473 {T 6th}
7. Virginia -- 219 {T 6th}
One out of three is good for baseball but very bad for trying to show you know football.

OGV...did you crash my computer? It had been having issues with it and it was running slowly for a while now but stopped working altogether yesterday. I tried to reload the operating software and it said something like: "Nice try but now way Jose!"

Safety Jaquan Johnson, cornerback Michael Jackson, and linebacker Shaq Quarterman were nominated for prestigious awards on Monday.
Johnson and Jackson, both seniors, are on the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to college football’s best defensive back. Quarterman, a junior, landed on the watch list for the Butkus Award, given annually to the best college football linebacker.

The Canes proved they are talented enough to win the Coastal with an inconsistent and inaccurate Rosier and and average OL play at times. For the Canes to win the ACC, the QB and the OL will need to play up to Hurricanes standards; that will determine if the Canes just win the Coastal and 10-12 wins, or if the Canes break through and win the ACC and make the college playoffs

The national media has been high on the Canes all offseason, projecting them in preseason magazines No. 6 (Athlon), No. 7 (Lindy’s) and No. 8 (Street & Smith).

Canes either finish top 5 or top 15. No way in between. Either way I'm cool. Unless the lose a STUPID azz game to Pitt or UVA. Then I go NUCLEAR!
They could lose to BC or FSU?

#8
ESPN put Duke as the #23 overall pick in their 2015 Re-Draft. Duke's reputation around the league is pretty high. It just sucks that he's on a team that's won 1 game in the last 2 years.
23. Denver Broncos
Actual pick: Shane Ray, edge rusher, Missouri
New Pick: Duke Johnson Jr., RB, Miami
Ray has had his moments, though he has been banged up and inconsistent even when healthy. Johnson has been one of the most valuable players in the class, as he is a dynamic receiving weapon out of the backfield, grading at 90.9 as a receiver last season, good for second in the league.

At least we'll know what we have at QB & OL early. LSU will stack the box and force Rosier to win passing.
What happens when these teams do the same?
FSU
VT
GT
BC
UNC
The results will determine the season

They better have good DBs. Cause staying with Richards, Thomas and Harley for more than a second or two won’t be easy.
Not to mention Homer and Lingard out of the backfield.

I see we still on the same thing... smh!
Didn't we already agree that we were forfeiting this season is Rosier starts???
We only EXPECTED to win 8 games at the most last season and ended up winning 10 which was a complete failure... it's definitely no hope this season!
Let's start counting the losses now like last year... nah scratch that... every team will stack the box and we'll lose every game... more reason to sit this year out!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Posted by: WWIN | July 24, 2018 at 01:52 PM
WWIN stop the nonsense most had us winning 9-11 games last year so we met expectations. Stop acting butt hurt bruh. It aint that damn serious. I expect us to win between 10-12 games this season.I had us winning between 9-11 games in 2016 and we met that threshold as well. Take a Chill pill bruh and actually bring something constructive to the damn blog or just carry on somewhere else. The act is tired. U used to really be an asset to the blog what happened. Find your way outta of the wilderness. Take a deep breath. Wax On, Wax Off, and come back to the blog bringing it like U used to and not this crap show U and others have been bringing over the last 3 or so years.

I must have been absent the day everyone was predicting 8 wins for a team that ended the season on a great winning streak, including its first bowl win in forever, all in dominant fashion.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | July 24, 2018 at 02:20 PM
So let me get this straight... If I don't agree with you I'm "not bringing it"???
Just like I wasn't "bringing it" when Golden was here and you was licking his boots right???
You know damn well you didn't have us winning 9-11 games last year cut it out! You think teams didn't stack the box last year too... oh let me guess... they only stacked the box the last 3 games? 🤣🤣🤣
I'm outgrowing Canes fans... if you're willing to have an intelligent debate on any subject Canes related I'm game anytime!

See how y'all change the narrative... you NEVER thought Malik could fill Kaaya's shoes but here you are today acting like you knew Malik would pick up right where Kaaya left off???
You can't make this stuff up!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Posted by: WWIN | July 24, 2018 at 02:30 PM
I agree with with WWIN! No one predicted the canes to do that well last year. I had them at winning 9 games.
This year they'll lose 1 and that loss will be at BC.

TBC you need to stop the dumb crap as y. I guess reading is not fundamental. So far in the Mark Richt era here at Miami expectations have been met between 9-11 wins accomplished in 2016 with 9-4 and again in 2017 with 10-3. Expectations this year is somewhere in the 10-12 win range so anywhere from 10-4 on the bad side to 12-2 on the good side. I expect Our Canes to reach that level again. The End.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | July 24, 2018 at 02:42 PM
LMAO!!!
So if I told you before the season started... a real hurricane will cause us to miss 3 weeks of practice and 1 game and force us to play 10 weeks in a row with NO BYES along with the fact that we are breaking in a 1st year QB with a injury to his throwing shoulder towards the end of the year, no Mark Walton for half the year, No AR for most of the year, no Herndon to finish the year, with a bad O-Line... and y'all would expect 10-1 11-0???
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So even if we have to start Sherriffs and lose key offensive and defensive weapons the expectations will still be 10-12 wins???
Posted by: WWIN | July 24, 2018 at 02:58 PM
If Sherriffs started we wouldve been lucky to be a .500 ball club!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | July 24, 2018 at 03:05 PM
Posted by: WWIN | July 24, 2018 at 02:54 PM
I would have been really impressed with the fact you perfectly predicted a hurricane hitting South Florida.
But since you didn’t do that, no one would have used it as criteria when predicting our record.
Again, you are making stuff up.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | July 24, 2018 at 03:10 PM
Evan Sherreffs never should have been here.
Using him to make your point is the dumbest argument ever.
No we don’t win 10 games with him. Yes we struggle all season if he’s starting.
Rosier is better than him. So what? No one is saying otherwise.
That doesn’t change the fact Malik only completed half his passes in conference play and became a player we had to win in spite of down the stretch.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | July 24, 2018 at 03:25 PM
The whole point is...
We caught a lot of bad breaks last year and fans are still ungrateful as if we were predicted to go undefeated when most people picked us to go 8-4 9-3!
Posted by: WWIN | July 24, 2018 at 03:30 PM

Reading is fundamental...
I never said we will lose if those teams stack the box.
I said...
(Read carefully)
How Rosier AND THE OL handle the stacked boxes will determine the success of the season.
I didn't say they would or would not succeed.
The OL has yet to prove they can block consistently. Rosier has yet to prove he can pass accurately consistently.
They're also the least talented positions on the team. Opponents will obviously try to exploit this. Duh...

We won’t lose. The talent disparity between us and the rest of the Coastal is probably as wide this season as it has been in 20 years. Yes, we’ve always been more talented over the last two decades, but not since Butch left have we had this level of talent and this level of coaching. The Dukes, UNCs, and other filter feeders of the Coastal can no longer match up.
Posted by: TonyCane | July 24, 2018 at 08:37 PM
TC,
I agree that the talent disparity in favor of the Canes in the Coastal Division is glaring. Canes should really trounce most of its opponents. But Rosier needs to show people that you can’t stack the box and dare him to throw into tight windows. Rosier has to make those throws when they are there. Rosier has to make the simple D-1 QB reads and throws, and the Canes playmakers will do the rest.
The game of football is unforgiving sport. If you show your opponent any weakness, your opponent will go to it and exploit it over and over. At the end of the season, Rosier didn’t make the throws and UNC, Pitt, Clemson and Wisconsin all exploited it. It’s up to Rosier to put in the work over the summer. The coaches will also have to monitor him closelyx, design a game plan and run plays Rosier feels comfortable executing.
