Good news about Donaldson. Donaldson lost weight and is more flexible. That move could be the key to the entire offensive line this season. This could be a special season

#Canes Senior LT Tyree St. Louis on Navaughn Donaldson’s progress at RT: “Navaughn’s coming along. Moving from right guard to right tackle is definitely a big difference. He’s lost a lot of weight, got more flexible. He’ll be fine by the time the season comes around.”

You can't sit on your high horse and expouse honor, faith, hold yourself up as a pillar of the oommunity and a mentor for young men, then cover up for years for a guy who beats his wife, even while she was pregnant.

Top it off by lying about it on national TV and you are toast, deservedly so.

Go Canes!!

From Stefan Adams at CIS:

After nearly four months off, the Miami Hurricanes took to the field today for the first drills of fall camp. With the Indoor Practice Facility looming over Greentree, and less than 2 weeks from completion, it's official: football is back in Coral Gables.

**The QB rotation was essentially the same as when spring ended. When Cade Weldon was out for a part of spring with an eye infection, Jarren Williams was temporarily elevated to QB3, but Weldon slotted back in ahead of him when he returned. We were looking to see if Williams had jumped Weldon over the summer, but that was not the case today.

Quarterback
1st Team: Malik Rosier
2nd Team: N'Kosi Perry
3rd Team: Cade Weldon
4th Team: Jarren Williams

**Performance-wise, I thought the QB's overall looked pretty good today: confident, accurate, and stepping into their throws. There didn't seem to be any first day jitters like there was for the first day of spring earlier in the year, when the QB's were wild and seemed to be missing on every other throw. This was a problem I noticed specifically for N'Kosi Perry in the past and he seemed much more focused today. Routes were skinny post, bubble screen, curls, and out routes to the sidelines

**No changes at running back either. Freshman FB Realus George began with the third team fullbacks.

Running back
1st team: Travis Homer
2nd team: Deejay Dallas
3rd team: Lorenzo Lingard
4th team: Robert Burns

Fullback
1st team: Trayone Gray
2nd team: Michael Parrott
3rd team: Realus George

Wide Receiver 1
1st team: Ahmmon Richards
2nd team: Darrell Langham
3rd team: Evidence Njoku

Wide Receiver 2
1st team: Lawrence Cager
2nd team: Brian Hightower
3rd team: Mark Pope

Slot
1st team: Jeff Thomas
2nd team: Mike Harley

**Ahmmon Richards was the first receiver to run a route in single receiver drills today. Richards looks fully healthy coming off knee surgery in the fall and was running very smooth out there. He looks 100% and primed for a big bounce-back season.

**Freshman WR Mark Pope made the catch of the day in early drills, snagging a low throw behind him off the turf, keeping his balance, and finishing the play.

Tight Ends
1st team: Michael Irvin
2nd team: Brian Polendey
3rd team: Brevin Jordan
4th team: Will Mallory

**TE's were another position group that looked better as a whole; if you remember in spring they were plagued by consistent drops. Much less of that today and it helps when your #3 isn't a walk-on and your #4 isn't a ball boy. Jordan and Mallory looked quick and efficient with their routes and neither dropped a pass that I saw. Jordan in particular had a great play on a seam route/skinny post and the ball was slightly overthrown; he skied to make the catch, came down with it, and ran through the endzone. However, coach Hartley got slightly animated at Jordan on one rep for not breaking off his route crisp enough, and made him run the drill over again.

**The offensive line was simply doing basic workouts and drills, but here's how they lined up:

Offensive Line
RT
1st team: Navaughn Donaldson
2nd team: Zalon'tae Hillery

RG
1st team: Hayden Mahoney
2nd team: Venzell Boulware

C
1st team: Tyler Gauthier
2nd team: Corey Gaynor

LG
1st team: Jahair Jones
2nd team: Delone Scaife

LT
1st team: Tyree St. Louis
2nd team: George Brown

**Unlike in spring when the team started every practice that I attended in the striker package, today the defense began drills in the traditional 4-3 base. The first team and second team was like so:

First Team
DL: DE Joe Jackson, DT Gerald Willis III, DT Patrick Bethel, DE Jon Garvin
LB: SAM Zach McCloud, MIKE Shaquille Quarterman, WILL Michael Pinckney
DB: CB Michael Jackson, S Jaquan Johnson, S Sheldrick Redwine, CB Trajan Bandy

Second Team
DL: DE Gregory Rousseau, DT Jonathan Ford, DT Tito Odenigbo, DE Demetrius Jackson
LB: Striker Derrick Smith/Romeo Finley, MLB Mike Smith/BJ Jennings, Waynmon Steed
DB: CB Jhavonte Dean, S Robert Knowles, S Amari Carter, CB CB Gilbert Frierson/DJ Ivey

**Striker Derrick Smith worked in some reps with the first team, replacing McCloud. BJ Jennings also got some work with the second team LB's, replacing Mike Smith at MIKE. Frierson and Ivey switched off at second team corner, along with Jhavonte Dean.

He doesnt have his own business.

He is the highest paid state employee in Ohio. He is the highest profile employee at it's largest university. He is constantly preaching morals and God. He;s supposed to be a mentor for young men.

His wife also works for the state and is a nurse for God's sake.

He kept a coach on staff who beat his wife, even while she was pregnant.

He lied about it when confronted.

He is now theowing his AD under the bus.

Wow, OSU starting Fall camp without a head coach. Per ESPN:

Offensive coordinator Ryan Day has been named acting head coach. Day, 39, joined the staff in early 2017 as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator after the 2017 season and given the primary playcalling duties. Day played quarterback at New Hampshire, under then-UNH offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. He was a graduate assistant for Meyer at Florida and became a coordinator at Temple and Boston College before rejoining Kelly with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. Day will lead a Buckeyes staff that includes former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano and former Indiana coach Kevin Wilson.

How long will Ohio State's investigation take?

The school has placed no timetable nor has it commented officially beyond Wednesday night's statement, which read in part: "We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible."

really wish the two DTs had stayed rather than depart for the NFL. Teams will try to run at the middle, then LBs will be drawn up and the TE over the middle will be open unless #4 has something to say about that.

Posted by: 58 Straight | August 03, 2018 at 10:21 AM

Wisky was definitely better, and having Herndon, Walton and Richards go down, as well as losing the turnover battle, didn't help.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Norton and McIntosh now wish they had stayed. With another outstanding season, McIntosh had a chance to be a first round or early second round NFL pick had he stayed. Norton had a chance to move up as well. As I can see from the current players on the roster, Gus Felder and and Kyle Bellamy would help them tremendously.

The new DTs will have to grow up in a hurry. Size will not be the issue, but lack of experience will be. But I recall the year Manny Diaz and Coach Kul came in, and they had Norton and McIntosh, who were lost or absent on Al Golden's rotation, and had them play at a much higher level. At Paradise Camp last week, the Canes DLs who were there all looked big and in shape. This line looks the part, and CMR's recruits are noticeably taller and bigger across the board. We will see if they can play on September 2nd.

IMHO, from watching him work camps and reading about his background, I think Jess Simpson will be a very good DL coach, but I am only projecting and I am no expert. That LSU game will go a long way towards proving to us that he can coach at this level.

58 Straight

Miami had a good year in 2017 and was ranked right where they should have been to end the season in the 13-15 range. UM was not a top 10 team last year, especially after the injuries on offense. They showed flashes but were not consistent or deep enough to overcome the obstacles of a long season.

I really wish the two DTs had stayed rather than depart for the NFL. Teams will try to run at the middle, then LBs will be drawn up and the TE over the middle will be open unless #4 has something to say about that.

1. Had the Canes beat Wisky in the Orange Bowl, the Canes would be ranked higher.

2. If Donaldson can drop some weight, Donaldson can go along way towards making this Canes line a capable force.

1. Even at FULL strength on offense that was NOT going to happen. I posted the Wisky defensive stats for the year and they played serious competition. They were simply a better team, hands down. And OH that OLine they had.

2. No comment, none needed.

It's great to be a Miami Hurricane.
Preseason Rank #8
It's great to be a Miami Hurricane.
U know it. GO CANES

BigWindyCane1

Also, that #8 ranking doesn't hurt recruiting. Once that IPF is finished and those new student dorms are finished, top recruits will be fighting each other for an opportunity to commit to play for CMR.

BigWindyCane1

The #8 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in over a decade. Each year, CMR has outperformed preseason rankings. In 2016, the Canes were unranked or ranked #25, and finished ranked approximately #18. Last season, the Canes were ranked #18 in the preseason, and finished ranked #13. I know this is a lot to ask for, but if CMR and the Canes outperforms the preseason rankings again, this could be a very special year.

Terrance Sullivan

Big Facts BWC1 I would also add who will emerge as our Place Kicker as 3rd worry.

BigWindyCane1

#8 is where we should be as of now. That would put us at about 12-2 for the Year! Go Canes!

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 02, 2018 at 12:43 PM

Had the Canes beat Wisky in the Orange Bowl, the Canes would be ranked higher. The Canes look strong, and all teams in the Top 10 are capable of making the CFP.

My focus is on the OL and QB. The talent is there in the OL, but it will have to come together. If Donaldson can drop some weight, Donaldson can go along way towards making this Canes line a capable force. If healthy, Gauthier and St. Louis will be solid. There will then be a healthy competition among experienced guards and talented newcomers at guard.

Old Skool

Ohio State number 3 in the coaches poll with one vote for number one.
Hmm It looks like Urbie can still vote when he's on
administrative leave.
It'll be interesting to see if he's fired/let go/forced to spend more time with his family/or suffering from a previously undiagnosed illness
that forces him to retire whether OSU has any votes for number one.

Terrance Sullivan

Our Canes are ranked #8 in just released USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll. The list is #1 Alabama #2 Clemson #3 Ohio State #4 Georgia #5 Oklahoma #6 Washington #7 Wisconsin #8 Miami #9 Penn State #10 Auburn #11 Notre Dame #12 Michigan State #13 Stanford #14 Michigan #15 Southern California #16 Texas Christian #17 Virginia Tech #18 Mississippi State #19 Florida State #20 West Virginia #21 Texas #22 Boise state #23 Central Florida #24 Louisiana State #25 Oklahoma State! I can dig this poll. #8 is where we should be as of now. That would put us at about 12-2 for the Year! Go Canes!

The Urban Meyer situation is horrible. Ohio St. is probably concerned about the financial repercussions associated with severing the relationship without a thorough investigation.
