One tradition that we have established here at Canespace over the last eleven years is that each year, when Fall practice starts and before the season begins, we ask bloggers to select their personal choices for what we like to call "Legends of the Fall".
This tradition actually started when CGNC, who is without a doubt a legend herself here on Canespace, started a series of player features with the same title. Years ago she wrote features about former UM players QB Kenny Dorsey and TE Jeremy Shockey and called them "Legends of the Fall".
In our fan selection process true "Legends of the Fall" are those players who the fans feel will have outstanding or "breakout" season for the Canes on offense and defense this year.
It's not about simply picking the Hurricanes' best players, but your personal favorites among the UM players apart from the usual suspects and most obvious stars. Some bloggers choose first or second year players who are likely to break on the scene as freshmen or sophomores.
Former winners include LB Sean Spence and WR Aldarius Johnson and QB Jacory Harris and DL Allen Bailey. Other winners were WR Leonard Hankerson and CB Brandon Harris. Then there was RB Lamar Miller and RB Duke Johnson and LB Denzel Perryman.
There are your unusual selections and surprises like kicker, punter and lead body slammer Matt Bosher who just happened to be the Canes 2008 MVP. The man was an absolute beast on special teams but who woulda thunk it?
Other bloggers are more traditional or conservative in their picks and select juniors or seniors who are projected to finally have that one incredible breakout season that leads them to become a high round NFL draft selection.
These picks could really be any defensive or offensive player who may be primed to explode on the scene after a solid previous season or a spectacular Summer. Offensive and defensive linemen may not be popular or sexy picks but they are just as eligible as any other position player.
And don't forget special teams standouts too who can change a game with that one big play that shifts the entire momentum of a game. Some bold predictions even result in selections of completely unexpected dark horse candidates for this honor like Sam Shields a few years ago.
If these long-shot picks actually play out, the blogger who picked them look like an absolute genius. This is the most risky, but potentially most rewarding, approach of all.
Then again if you decide to take a leap of faith on a player and they don't ball out like you might have hoped or expected then you might wind up like old time blogger Cat5 who selected LB Arthur Brown or SolarCane who selected WR Thearon Collier and then well, U know what happens then.
It's your choice. Here are the 2017 LOF rules:
- Pick one player on offense and one player on defense.
- Pick one freshman for "Freshman Impact Player of the Year".
- Pick one special teams player.
- Pick one assistant coach or coordinator for "Coach of the Year".
Now make your choices and you may win Canespace prizes and other fun stuff like tickets to a football, basketball or baseball game.
And remember: U gotta be in it to win it!
Lol y'all are shocked Willie and Thirsty still Defending Rosier. They must be Mark and Jon Richt lol.

Go read my post you idiot! I said it's time to start Weldon! There are more problems to this team than Rosier!

It was good compared to what we've had since then

This post has to be a joke.
We scored on WV with seven minutes left in the second quarter, another one with 2 minutes left and third one before half..
It was 21-7 and game over before the marching bands hit the field. We could have put up whatever number we wanted.
We dropped 27 on the Irish, 40 on Duke, 50 on Pitt, 34 on UVA and 27 on a rock solid NC State defense.

Qbs like Malik are why teams run high tempo and call plays from the sideline. He should never be trusted to do the things he gets asked to do.
That first td ended the game in the first half. LSU got to the line quick and started hard counting. We showed our hand, knew we were read and blitzed any way. Their qb saw the defense, audibles and it was game over.
If Malik can’t make those reads we need to bench him, or make them for him,

Posted by: WWIN | September 04, 2018 at 10:26 AM
This is wrong too.
We averaged 34 a game in 2016 and 29 in 2017. And I’d venture a guess our defense helped us more in 2017, both in points and flipping field position.

Perry and Weldon took some reps with the 1st team today!

Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 04, 2018 at 11:33 AM
I take it that you fit in the category of fans that think our only problem is Rosier?
Posted by: WWIN | September 04, 2018 at 12:31 PM
I get it now!
Richt feels the same way Willie and Thirsty feel about Nosier. Aaaaah...
Enlightenment is a mutha f*cka...
Posted by: CoCane | September 04, 2018 at 12:35 PM
Rosier is not the ONLY problem. But he is the problem which makes another problem much worse (ie feagles). Feagles would be great if he ounted from the opponent 40-50 yard line. Unfortunately he punts from our own 15-20 yard line cuz of Rosier.
Posted by: BEERicane | September 04, 2018 at 12:42 PM
Willie 😦
Everyone knows Nosier isn't the only problem. You and Thirsty are 2 of the rare few that didn't think he was a problem.
I know it hurts. We're still here for you both.
But it's funny as f*ck! 😀😄😆😂🤣
Posted by: CoCane | September 04, 2018 at 12:43 PM
Who needs a pooch punt when you got a good old shank punt option?
Posted by: BEERicane | September 04, 2018 at 12:43 PM
Y'all are like the fans that were mad at D'no instead of being mad at Golden.
CMR keeps playing him... be mad at him and CMRJR.
Also Diaz is the 4-3 version of D'no

Pay attention. We are and have been mad at them. You were too busy defending Nosier to comprehend anything else.

Good. I heard CMR on talk radio a little this morning- he sounds so ho hum like he is on vacation. "I am glad that the fans are passionate" etc.
LMAO - just wait - no improvement and some of the impassioned fans/will fire up their plane.
I love all the Canes fans - you all brighten my day. It would be nice if the football team would do the same.
WWIN - good to see you back. And Solar!!!
Posted by: CGNC | September 04, 2018 at 12:50 PM
After watching our game, FSU and V-Tech - right now none has a really good QB. Josh Jackson was better than Francois but Foster's D and their special teams were outstanding.

Posted by: WWIN | September 04, 2018 at 12:31 PM
Really?
Everyone knows this team has flaws and lacks depth and Yale t at multiple positions.
Remember I’m the one who’s always said you don’t win or lose because of one player. It takes an entire team to do either.
But Rosier’s is by far the team’’s most important player and he has been atrocious for four straight games with zero signs of improvement. He has become an almost insurmountable liability.

And according to Christy Chirinos on twitter, he received the bulk of the snaps today (5) while Perry and Weldon each had one. Richt also said he will start this Saturday.
Posted by: CGNC | September 04, 2018 at 01:13 PM
I expect Perry and Weldon to play the majority of the game, and for Rozier to be in for perhaps the first three series. Its that much of a mismatch.
We’re behind of the development of Perry and Weldon because we redshirted them both. They need gametime experience, now.

Almost insurmountable? He's 100% there.
Posted by: His Majesty The Dude on High | September 04, 2018 at 01:23 PM
And I'm not a throw the kid under the bus kind of guy, Jon & Mark Richt share much of the blame for Rosier, how they are still sticking with the kid I dont know. Plain and simple the kid has to be able to complete simple passes. I get not wanting to dumb down the playbook, or maybe your other kids play like a deer in headlights, but things are now in meltdown. You have a coach who's only job is to get QBs ready. You mean to tell me Miami does not have a viable back up, AND they have a full time QB coach? Critical failure of the coach. He has only FOUR players to get ready, four, four, four... This is so insane its starting to break my head. Are we supposed to think, that we should accept the fact, that if a starting QB goes down at Miami, the only thing we'd get back is a deer in headlights? No. The backup must be serviceable, no matter his class/star ranking. 42% is NOT acceptable from even 3rd string. Jon Richt is seriously at fault here, so is Rosier, so is Mark.

Does he have to play or does CMR choose to play him? Can he not play Weldon, Perry, or Williams?
So again... this is on CMR

test
Posted by: Old Skool | September 04, 2018 at 01:34 PM
Seriously though, a true freshman 4* recruit should be able to come in and complete 50% of his throws at Miami against lower top competition, and over 55% against ACC Coastal teams.

It's time to get a offensive coordinator! There is no originality in the play calling! The defense knows what's coming 90% of the time.

we drop down to 22nd.......sounds about right.

Posted by: WWIN | September 04, 2018 at 01:31 PM
This is a ridiuculous take.
Perry was suspended for the game and did you really expect Richt to bench Roisier and play his third string guy or true freshman on the road against one of the tip defenses and coordinators in college football?
Yes he had to play him.

We will know soon enough TD. IMO the young guys are going to get some serious burn going forward.

Chirinos: Mark Richt says the decision to keep N'Kosi Perry home from the opener was made more than six months ago. Perry has since, Richt says, "done a great job."

You sound INSANE!
Questions for you... Could it have been any worse? Shouldn't Weldon and Perry be prepared by now? Don't other teams play freshmen QB's? If you were CMR would you keep playing Rosier? Do you have a clue?

Always heard Perry had a strong arm.
He would have needed it to complete passes from Miami to Dallas.

Didn't know Weldon and Williams was in Miami too... interesting! Were they suspended too?
🤔🤔🤔

News flash to Willie:
Richt and son's play calling, QB development, no motion, personal decisions have been criticized.
Searles and the OL get consistantly criticized.
Rumph and Banda's coaching and recruiting have been criticized.
Diaz's sporadic blitzing and development of LB's have been criticized.
Everyone criticizes the team as a whole.
You on the other hand have been criticizing everything except Nosier. It's you.
ALL YOU

I think so. I think Rosier will get the start, but if it were me, every QB could get some reps, Weldon & Perry an absolute certainty.

From Twitter: Starts with completion pct. under 50% among recent Miami QBs
