University of Miami starting quarterback Malik Rosier (the new and improved version for 2018) recently took to Twitter after the Canes first real scrimmage of the Fall and tweeted, "We got a new three headed monster on offense."
Hurricane fans were left wondering what he might have meant by that statement. Well we think we know, so here is our best guess:
RUNNING BACK
24 | Travis Homer | Junior | 5-11 | 205
13 | DeeJay Dallas | Sophomore | 5-10 | 220
32 | Trayone Gray | Redshirt Senior | 6-2 | 240
Homer blossomed after taking over as the starter a year ago following an injury to Mark Walton, rushing for 966 yards on 163 attempts, averaging 5.9 yards per carry and finishing with eight rushing touchdowns on his way to earning an All-ACC Second Team selection in 2017.
Dallas also stepped up after moving from wide receiver to running back following Walton's injury, using his athleticism and versatility to rush for 217 yards and three touchdowns behind Homer. Fully focused on running back in 2018, Dallas could be an important and versatile weapon for Miami's offense. But Gray is the biggest surprise in the running back room, moving to fullback in the spring and climbing to No. 3 on the depth chart in fall camp.
"I'm so proud of that dude," offensive coordinator Thomas Brown said of Gray. "I said it [at Media Day], his development not just as a player, but as a person – what he's done off the field, being more responsible, being accountable. He has always been a very talented guy – super fast, straight ahead [runner], very strong. He's limited some east and west [running]-wise, but we kind of work around that. But his maturity level has come along so fast this past spring and summer. I'm really excited about what he's doing."
Gray's ability to play both fullback and running back excite Brown, while his experience and maturity will help him mentor a stable of talented young running backs.
"I think it's huge," Brown said of Gray's ability to play both positions. "Obviously you have a guy who has played some - not a whole lot throughout his career, but at least has been around the program and been in our system. He knows what we kind of expect from a coaching staff standpoint. The effort every single day, the accountability every single day, is huge to have in that room – especially when you have new guys who just got here with Cam [Davis], Lorenzo [Lingard] and Realus [George]. The more guys we have in that room who can help lead those guys when I'm not around, the better off we'll be. So I think the fact that he was not hesitant to move when I asked him to move, didn't have an attitude about it, he just accepted his role, embraced his role and kept working at it, and now he's back in the mix at tailback."
Good stuff Windy. And speaking of depth, here’s Ivin’s expected depth chart:

Good news for Coach L. SG transfer Anthony Mack’s hardship waiver was granted by the NCAA, and Mack can play this season

On a basketball note, what is the latest on Vernon Carey Jr?

58, how would you like to settle up for the FSU tix? U wouldn’t happen to be going and could tailgate would you?!
Posted by: BEERicane | August 21, 2018 at 10:05 PM
Not sure what’s going on with the Carey, Jr. recruitment situation for the Canes. I heard the Canes are in the mix, but I am not sure if he is leaning towards the Canes or some other “blue blood” basketball programs, like Michigan St., Kansas, Duke, Kentucky or North Carolina . It would be a big get for Coach L, but I am not confident enough to predict.
But I really like his game. Carey is a program-changing, one-and-done type player.

I am not going to FSPoo.
Posted by: 58 Straight | August 21, 2018 at 11:33 PM
I don’t know if Coach L has a Florida focus for recruiting like the football team. I think Coach L’s focus has been more on the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. With the exception of Huell, the Canes haven’t gotten commitments from the Nasir Littles, RJ Barrett’s, Anfernee Simmons, Scotty Barnes, etc., types.
I like Coach L, and I think he is a great coach - but his emphasis hasn’t been on recruiting FLORIDA. It seems to work for him. Coach L has been very successful, so I think he should continue to recruit to his strengths

I am not going to the FSPoo Game either! I guess going to the LSU, SSU, FIU, UNC, Duke, GT, Pitt, Games are enough and hopefully the Chik Fil A Peach Bowl or if we are lucky and great the Capital One Orange Bowl(Playoffs).

Nice ranking about right; we have a lot to live up to after last year, but the last 3 games were really poorly done by all. We do have a lot of talent...QB is still a question but we go with what we have. I think we are stronger than opponents in each game, but on the filed is what counts. We will need to run the ball, but those 3 guys will be good IF the OL blocks. Hopefully QB can get it to the WRs. On D we are good, just need to tackle strong rush passer and get the TO chain out!
Pray to the Football God that Urban is terminated...probably not but he deserves to. Good football x and o guy; piece of trash re others and morality....everywhere he goes the discipline never goes wityh him. Despise him as person.
Hope you all have great time in TX....and enjoy it on tv all.

(I regret nothing. This will be more entertaining than the trailer park trash visiting smoldering dumpster of a football violation pretending to be a team, good call 86.)
Al left his home with a dollar in his pocket and a head full of dreams.
He said somehow, some way, it's gotta get better than this.
Bradli packed her bags, left a note for her momma, she was just seventeen.
There were tears in her eyes when she kissed her little lineman goodbye.
They held each other tight as they lost on through the seasons they were so excited.
We got just one shot of life, let's take it while we're still not in prevent.
Because life is so brief and time is a thief when you're unranked.
And like a fistful of pigskin laces, it can slip right through your hands.
Young hearts be free tonight.
Time is on your side.
Don't let them put you down, don't let 'em push you around
don't let 'em ever change your point of attack.
Paradise was closed so they headed for motor city in a blissful manner.
They took a two room apartment that was jumping ev'ry night of the week.
Happiness was found in each other's arms as expected, yeah
Al pierced his ears, drove a pickup like a lunatic, ooh!
Young hearts be free tonight.
Time is on your side.
Don't let them put you down, don't let 'em push you around
don't let 'em ever change your point of attack.
Young hearts be free tonight.
Time is on, on your side.
Al wrote a letter back home to Bradli's parents tryin' to explain.
He said we're both real sorry that it had to turn out this way.
But there ain't no point in playing when there's nobody watching so we just ran
away.
Badli gave birth to a fifty eight point blowout loss, yeah!
Young hearts be free tonight
time is on your side.
Young hearts be free tonight
time is on your side.
Young hearts be free tonight
time is on your side.
Young hearts gotta run free, be free, live free
Time is on, time is on your side
Time, time, time, time is on your side
is on your side, is on your side
Young hearts be free tonight
tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, yeah.

In the water just north of Madeira Beach they found something new. The concentration of algae in the water there was large enough to qualify for the "medium" classification.

Thanks GC. I really invite anyone to try to go down to Coral Gables and look at the players. In comparison to four years ago, or even last year, They are noticeably bigger, stronger , leaner and more athletic looking. Even the same players across the board look very different now. CMR has created a culture of excellence, and it shows physically. Players have been transformed physically and mentally, and it is obvious.

Meyer gets three games.
It should have been 0 games because he didn’t know or fired if he did.
Disgraceful.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | August 22, 2018 at 09:08 PM
Horrible:
Mary Jo White: Urban Meyer was aware of 2015 domestic violence allegations, he was informed of them by Gene Smith; both Meyer & Smith monitored the investigation for months. Gene Smith didn’t contact Ohio State compliance about the Smith domestic violence allegations
Posted by: Go Canes!! | August 22, 2018 at 09:10 PM
Investigation had board members on it...really independent huh?
Smith is a liar, Urban is worse.
OSU is apathetic school....judging by their players and staff you do not have to be real smart to get in there...The FSU of the north.

Very good news for the defense:
This is one of the most solidified starting positions on the team, with Redwine and Jaquan Johnson leading the way.

Really interesting opinion piece in the NYTimes
Here's a sampling:
New rules permit basketball players to hire N.C.A.A.-certified agents before declaring for the NBA draft. These agents will help players gauge their prospects; they will also be permitted to pay for certain expenses incurred during the recruitment process.
To which I would say ... Why not football players?
This has the potential to exacerbate a fundamental tension at the heart of the N.C.A.A. model: There is a huge gap between the number of players who make the pros and the number who believe that they will. According to a 2011 study, 76 percent of Division I basketball players believe that it is at least “somewhat likely” that they will eventually play professionally; more than half of Division II players and 21 percent of those in Division III think the same thing.
Where they go with that tension is very thought provoking.
