I understand what you are getting at, Go. But I can’t answer that question for a couple of reasons.
With the training and schematic innovation of today’s game. There is more parity than ever before. Anybody can beat anybody, and few games are guaranteed wins anymore.
In old pro style ball, the defense has an inherent advantage. But a smart mobile qb combined with the illegal contact and targeting rules flips that advantage completely to the offense. It is almost like a different sport. There used to be 14-10 and 6-3 game scores all the time. You almost never see that anymore.
It is difficult to dominate week in week out. On paper, Bama should never lose but they do.
I have never been that concerned with wins and losses per se. I focus on the things in the teams control, namely soundness of fundamental technique and strategy. Blocking, tackling, special teams, penalties. The fundamentals.
Most people don’t do more with less. That goes for ALL aspects of life. It is just the opposite. We mostly do less with more.
The stakes of big time football tend to make coaches conservative, playing not to lose. The top offensive coaches in the nfl say they are FIVE YEARS behind college. Think about that.
The elite coaches are able to balance risk with reward, innovation with tradition. Most importantly, THEY ALWAYS CHALLENGE THEIR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHIES based on the results they get.
Richt is a smart guy. He is an EXPERT at football and a HELL of a coach. But he has flaws that are VERY apparent.
To get more with less takes elite coaching. If we were looking for a coach there are guys I think are interesting, but it doesn’t matter. I wanted Butch, but that’s a pipe dream.
I think Richt has the ability to be truly elite, but he has proven to be stubborn. That stubbornness has and will cost him the ultimate prize.
The good news though, is that because he is such a good recruiter and football expert, he just might pull it off because he is at Miami, regardless of his stubbornness.
Kycane,
Its crazy how much money fsu alum are saying they will donate to get willie on a train, I think he is gone before we can beat him 3 times straight
Not a big Fan of the Running QB IJS I look at it as taking carries away from the Running Backs. Nothing wrong with the QB scramble like 3-4 times a game. Just not a fan of the QB runs like 15 times like we did against LSU otherwise we might as well run the damn wishbone lol. I am quite sure others disagree and that's cool
Texas, FSU, Michigan, Florida, USC and Tennessee have all been recruiting well but dumpster fires on the field. Don't forget to add Notre Dame to that list. Every advantage, not much to show?

As long as Rosier is the QB, that will likely be the case. Good coaches play to their players’ strengths, and Rosier has not shown that he can pick a defense apart with his accuracy and decision-making. I don’t think CMR wants to see Rosier with 15 rushes, but 6-8 rushes is probably the target.
The Canes had 53 rushes against Toledo. If the Canes can have 45+ rushes and 25 or less passes in a game, the Canes are unstoppable. But when Canes opponents load up the box to stop the run and force Malik to make consistent and fairly accurate throws, the Canes are at a big disadvantage
My LOF coach, Simpson, seems to be doing a great job. I saw him working a couple of UM camps. I like him a lot. He communicates with the recruits, and coaches them up. Simpson and Dugans are great coaches

All valid points. But I again ask, when looking at a five year recruiting window, who is doing more with less in big time football?
Imo the list is far, far shorter than those doing less with more.

I think that the teams doing the least with the most over the last five years would have to be:
1. University of Texas (31-32)
2. University of Florida (34-28)
3. University of Michigan (40-23)
All of these schools have substantially outrecruited Miami (42-23). Especially the top two.

Tony I'd have to go with Tennessee, Texas, USC and FSU, who are currently or in the last couple of years been complete and total dumpster fires
Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 19, 2018 at 06:32 AM
If Taggart is truly that bad, I suggest a counterintell program designed to encourage FSU to keep him. Preferably for a long time.

Ricky Town has completed 100% of his passes.

I'd forgotten about the Volunteers. They're in the same boat as Texas.
Last five years:
Tennessee (34-29)
Notre Dame (41-23)
USC's five year record isn't that terrible (48-20). But given their recruiting, they should have been better.
