Its great to blog again with U again Solar as well. It should be a interesting season.

solarcane

Terrence great to blog with you again. I think we will be sky high for VT and play well, we have older guys that know VTs dna

Jones from Duke is hitting 74 percent of his passes at 10 yds a pop.The way our d backs forget guys I can see us going in and sleep walk until we have to raise hell the second half

BC is going to be in kill mode against us, we will have to play our best game against them I think

Terrance Sullivan

LOL if we would have lost we would of had 3 times the amount of comments. Instead of 333 comments it would have been 1000 comments.

raizecane

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought our Canes had lost based on reading the blog :-.

Missed the game on Saturday. Was at New Smyrna beach and watching waves I have not seen in a very long time. Compliments of Florence

Terrance Sullivan

BC, VT, and LSU were and will be our 3 toughest Games this Season. Well the LSU Game is behind us. We got to win the BC and VT Games especially VT Game or we won't get back to Charlotte this year for ACC Championship Game. Go Canes!

Go Canes!!

I'm still telling you that BC game got me worried.

I will accept it AND appreciate it.

Nobody here (I don't think?) hates the poor guy, we just want (need?) to see him play better, that's all.

As we like to say around here: "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while."

We were down in Lawrenceville tonight, just a drizzle.

Point blank, this team has enough talent to overcome Rosier's shortcomings.

Now we don't have the cocoon that Alabama, Clemson, or UGA has, YET!, but we had enough talent not to let QB play be the deciding factor in the LSU game.

Looks like Miami didn’t move up in any of the polls. Looking at the teams ahead of the Canes, and i am not impressed with many of them.

I also see that the Canes have lots of room to move up over the next few weeks. If the Canes take care of business as they should, they will be back in or near the top ten by the time they get into the BC game.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: CaneRock | September 16, 2018 at 12:54 PM

Agree with you that we should beat our remaining schedule, with the exception of VT, no matter who’s under center.

But I also think Toledo would probably be 3-0 against Notre Dane’s schedule.

CGNC

Toledo is a great MAC team, but there are a few ACC teams on the Canes schedule that Toledo could probably beat.

Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 16, 2018 at 12:03 PM

I think Miami was their only loss last year?

CGNC

Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 15, 2018 at 09:37 PM

So were we. The only thing i could do without is the runs up the middle at the beginning of EVERY game causing 3 and outs, and our secondary was out of sync giving up alot of yards. Other than that, we beat them like a Miami team should. Malik had a pretty good second half (I missed most of the first half).

After yesterday’s results, the ESPN matchup predictor now slightly favors the Canes in the BC game.

The Canes are third in the ACC in scoring offense, 5th in the ACC in scoring defense, first in the ACC in tackles for loss, first in the ACC in passing defense and total defense.

The Canes have showed remarkable improvements through three games in key ares from last season- scoring, third down offense, third down defense, red zone TDs and red zone defense. If this continues, the Canes could run the table to the ACC Championship game.

The biggest concern remains Rosier’s accuracy. Rosier’s completion percentage needs dramatic improvement from the 51%. It should be 60-65%, and interceptions should be around 7 or less. If Rosier had that kind of completion percentage (which this offense demands), this would be one of the most potent offenses in college football.

I also think we will see more Dallas and Lingard going forward. I think CMR would prefer to have an effective rushing attack, and big plays with Thomas over the top.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 16, 2018 at 12:03 PM

Not just the ACC. This weekend in the Big 10:

Nebraska lost to Troy
Rutgers lost to Kansas
Maryland lost to Temple
Wisconsin lost to BYU
Northwestern lost to Akron
Illinois lost to USF
Purdue to Missouri

And remember, Penn State needed OT to beat Appalachian State AT HOME three weeks ago.

It wasn't a signauture win or a season changer or a rebirth for Malik.

It was a solid win in a place that could have become a disaster.

BigWindyCane

Toledo is a great MAC team, but there are a few ACC teams on the Canes schedule that Toledo could probably beat.

TonyCane

From Clay Travis on FSU:

3. Florida State is one of the worst coached teams I have ever seen.

The Seminoles are loaded with four and five star talent and have been outscored in the ACC so far this year by a margin of 54-10.

But it’s not just the beatings that would have me terrified if I were a Seminole fan, this coaching staff appears to be way, way in over its head.

Willie Taggart went 16-20 at Western Kentucky, 24-25 at South Florida and 7-5 in one year at Oregon.

He’s had one really good year, when he went 10-2 at South Florida.

Otherwise he’s gone 48-52 as a head coach.

How many times has a big time program hired a coach with an overall losing record in college football and it turned out well? I can’t even think of one off the top of my head right now.

Despite being a head coach for nine full seasons the decisions Taggart makes on the sideline are often inexplicable. Witness: at the end of the first half against Syracuse the Seminoles had 11 seconds left, no timeouts, and faced a 2nd and 10 at the Syracuse 20. The Seminoles trailed 6-0 and had a chance to slice the lead in half or take the lead with a big play.

The safest play here, given that you have no timeouts, would have been to go ahead and kick the field goal to avoid a sack or a player being tackled in bounds. But if you really wanted to take a chance you could have thrown it into the end zone and gone for a touchdown. What you absolutely could not do was keep the ball in bounds.

So what did FSU do? They threw underneath to gain eight yards and the clock ran out.

Any kid playing Madden would have used the clock better than this, but the most alarming part of the entire sequenced was the befuddled look on Taggart’s face as the half ended. It was as if he had no clue what his team was doing.

I don’t think FSU can afford to fire Taggart after one year, but I do think they need to spend the offseason hiring the most expensive offensive and defensive coordinators imaginable and just letting Taggart be the face of the program.

Because right now I think there’s a very good chance FSU goes 3-9, or maybe even worse, in year one and Taggart looks like a disaster.

50 points offensively, 260 on the ground, 50% on third down, no turnovers, no memborable drops, freshmen playing everywhere, NO PENALTIES, as good a game as you're gonna get from Malik, adjusted after a bad third quarter to shut them down in the 4th, 13 TFLs and 4 sacks, 2-11 for them on 3rd down.

Not perfect, but a good win.

solarcane

Greed kills?

Herbieibis

Good win yesterday. Rosier will take us on a rollercoaster ride all year. No point in putting Perry In the game to just hand the ball off. Richt has no killer instinct.
How we go on offense will depend on offensive line. With no potential good or great tackles on this team, it will be hard to run against better talented teams. At least they are not as bad as FSU, who are pathetic.
The Herb is concerned about the defense, especially Manny's adulation with blitzing. It's one thing to blitz and disguise it, it's another just to tell the other team here we come. No spies on the qb, just send everybody and in the process, gives up to many chunk plays.

Knowles is horrible and when we play that soft zone, we look lost. Manny has got to be better. Our LB's are still I consistent and we are giving the edge up to much. That game shouldn't of been as close as it was. Manny is to greedy and Richt is not greedy enough.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Crowley is an amazing RB. I cant believe he isnt a 4*. He does things that make you think Reggie Bush or Adrian Peterson sometimes. His last game he jump cut half the defense and reversed field. What a find.

Jeff Thomas named player of the game.
North Carolina called wet.

WWIN

He could have left Rosier in to do that! The game was over at that point... Toledo had no chance at coming back. CMR has too many talented players that need touches to be running out the clock and taking knees!

Gin & Tonic

Rosier is a decent MAC quarterback.

Too bad he plays in the ACC.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: WWIN | September 16, 2018 at 12:26 AM

Believe he was in for two series. The first one he fumbled what looked to ba a good snap on third down and had to dive on it.

Don't see anything wrong with what CMR did. Rosier is the starter, was playing well and the game was a little too close for comfort until late.

I agree with TSully, just keep winning.

Terrance Sullivan

Just keep Winning.

WWIN

What did y'all think about CMR putting Perry in to hand the ball off and take two knees? SMDH

Go Canes!!

Toledo has a good program. They’re a decent team and today wasnt a gimme win.

Rosier also had a damn fine game and deserves credit for that.

Go Canes!!

Toledo has a damn good program with multiple nfl caliber players, especially at WR.

Today was a good win and overall Rosier had a damn good game.

AeroCane

But I was pleasantly surprised that:
Rosier accounted for 5 TDs?
CMR’s play calling on third and fourth downs was good and fairly successful?
Two holding calls on Toledo OL?
Zero penalties after having 9 in the LSU game?
The Canes rushed for 250+ yards and imposed their physical will on a decent opponent on the road?
No turnovers?

I definitely like this. The Canes have a chance to be very very good.

Posted by: BigWindyCane

Decent opponent? Nope - Toledo!
Rosier - 5 tds - big deal - against a good opponent he’s nothing- richt is screwing us by not using Weldon and Perry more;
Play calls on 3rd and 4th - yep, he’s a genius against Toledo but he seems to choke big time in big Games;
Lingard needs to get more touches;
I’ll keepnsaying it until he proves me wrong - he’s not current in his offense nor play calling; he frustrates me; I’m tired now! Lol

Herbieibis

Yeah, just when the offense came to life the defense had a bunch of lapses.

BigWindyCane

Jeff Thomas was spectacular, Willis was dominant and Jaquan was a tackling machine before his injury. That I expected.

But I was pleasantly surprised that:
Rosier accounted for 5 TDs?
CMR’s play calling on third and fourth downs was good and fairly successful?

It amazes me watching other teams, how they get WR's open and we struggle. Rosier has absolutely no foot work. He is almost as bad as Kaaya.

My bad dude. I mis-understood your post. You right. 15 is about it. But no way the pollsters can objectively say Wisky deserves to be ranked ahead of Miami.

BEERicane

Dude, sure they should. They should fall to the 20s, behind us. They lost at home to a far inferior opponent when favored by over 3TDs. They should fall at least the same amount we did and frankly after what LSU just pulled off, we should get a retroactive bump in the polls.

ND should be dropped to 15ish while Wisky to 20-22.

I would of said one but this year's verbs are not where I would thought we would be. We might be a coach or 2 away, as well.
