We will give up fewer points if the talent gets to elite levels, especially on the DL and the DBs. Right now our starters on D are very close to elite, but the 2 deep is not, let alone the 3s. I totally agree with you, many have complained about Diaz's defense, but it looks pretty close to what weve wanted for years. If the O can pull its weight and force the O to throw, game over I think.

I agree. Much ado about nothing. He could have gone to him earlier in the Toledo game, but he didnt... and it doesnt matter any more, like I said the cat has been skinned and gauging by the mood of the O during Perry's FIU breakout party, there's no going back to Rosier unless the kid really starts to struggle.

UMike

M. Jackson has been getting beat this year imo

Go Canes!!

Exactly. Think we’ll hear he’s getting the start today after practice.

Last game he got beat bigly but the receiver dropped the long pass.

The hits keep on coming for VT. Their QB has a broken leg!

Wow, the road to Charlotte just got a little easier.

Justin Fuente says QB Josh Jackson has a fracture to his left fibula and will have surgery tomorrow. Uncertain of timetable. Says it's going to be a little while. #Hokies

thirstybuzzardcane

My guess is that if FSU wins on Saturday it might be a night game on ESPN 2.

raizecane

definition of a bad day ... losing to Old Dominion AND losing your starting QB on the same day.

After kicking your best DEvoff the team immediately after that loss....

I use LSU as a measuring stick. And he didn't shank anything

Just bussin' ya' chops Bro...I still think BC & VT are gonna be tough outs despite what happened this weekend.

CaneRock

Pump the brakes on Perry.

He threw it into double coverage a few times vs FIU, Harley bailed em' out.

He also missed a pretty open wheel route to I forget who it was...and He missed another one where the WR had a step on His man.

Kid's talented no doubt, but He still has a lot to learn...and I don't think His leash is as long as some think it is.

Go Canes!!

All very valid points.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Here's a question for you...

Next year's starting Safeties will be Carter & Hall, you think that's the hardest hitting tandem in CF? Also, when was the last time we had 2 Safeties that hit like that?

His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: CaneRock | September 24, 2018 at 01:36 PM

He threw 1 that should have been a pick, that bobbled catch by Harley, the other one I agreed with you at first, but after watching the replay a couple times, it look like maybe it was more of a gutsy throw. Maybe it should be made against faster defenses, but ended up looking good this time. Good points though.

Continued Great Blogging today. I am loving it.

Rosier himself has said that the Canes QB completion target is 65%, which sounds about right to me. So let's see how Rosier and Perry compare to Rosier's completion percentage standard.

Perry completed about 65% of his passes against Savannah St. and against FIU, his only action of his career. I think Rosier completed 65% of his passes only once last season (Toledo), and this season against Savannah St. and FIU (only 3 passes).

In 2018, Perry has 66.7% completion, 317 yards, 6 TDs, 2 Ints, 8.1 YPA, and a passer rating of 175.46;

In 2018, Rosier has 52.1% completion, 611 yards, 5 TDs, 2 Ints, 8.4 YPA, and a passer rating of 139.49.

I think CMR is pretty sure he will start Perry at this point, but he wants to make sure that Perry does everything he is supposed to do in preparing himself to be a starter for a major college football program. CMR probably wants to make sure that Perry is mature enough and can handle his newfound responsibility of being a starting QB at the U.

UMike

CR... I initially thought that same thing too, but have since thought different. The one into doubt coverage may not have been smart, but his arm strength made it happen. Might be an INT vs a better team, but would of been an INT Saturday had Rosier made same throw. He missed on the wheel route to Davis, but it was open and that play doesn't get called in Rosier is in the game. He definitely has some improveing to do, but I'd rather take these lumps with him now and him grow then tell with Rosier who's at his ceiling.

His average that game was 36 yards, which included a punt that rolled 54 yards! Take the 54 yarder out and that's a bad average.

The guy is terrible. He had more than enough chance dating back from last year to prove himself, and he's not cutting it.

TruCane81

Cb is SLOW. If Perry develops, we will MURDER them. Except for a play here and there the run defense has been good. This bodes well.

My only concern with vt is the atmosphere and Bud Foster. We have to go in focused to embarrass them and FSU. Wounded animals can be dangerous for unfocused teams with poor technique.

But hey, we actually ran a reverse for big yards against Toledo. Maybe we are coming into this century.

We got the talent to crush the non elites and not lose by double digits to the big boys.

It’s time for the Staff and players to put it together.

NP may be just what we need. The table is set for a big run to end the season. We just gotta eat and not play with the food.

TruCane81

Damn autocorrect. Meant BC.

Harry Miller

I agree UMike his lumps should be less and less with reps with starters and and another start with against NC. This kid has what it takes. He can fit the ball in tight spots, hit the receivers in stride on the right spot. Passes are not in the air as long. Receivers are going to get used to his speed on the ball and get more yards after catches.
He is our future right now. MR needs to let him get started now.

UMike

Harry, I didn't think of that. Rosier does throw those high rainbows that stay in the air forever.

I feel you, CR. This why the play calling rhythm is SO IMPORTANT.

We have athletes all over the field and mobile qbs. We need to double down on the creative option runs. THEY WORK!

I pick or two is ok. He will make up for. I know the big play is appealing, but the yac is where it is at for our playmakers. You hit our guys in the numbers, you don’t need 30 yard throws for big plays.

Give the kid easy reads and let him throw quick and early. The big plays WILL come.

So many teams get enamored with the long low percentage throw. There is green grass underneath but fear and impatience leaves it in utilized.

TruCane81

not utilized*

SOUP

We wouldn't break out in a cold sweat everytime we faced a ranked team.

I call BS.

The 12% bus ain't got no damn breaks! We don't EVER stop. And if U can't stop, U gotta steer. My advice? Steer towards Perry and away from Rosier?

Then floor the gas, that's right, FLOOR IT!

LMAO!

TruCane81

Soup, you gotta cut J Skinny some slack.

He was just trying not to get his neck broke after a 30 step, Whipple special drop.

Terrance Sullivan

Lmbao TruCane81.

His Majesty The Dude on High

And Harris also had a good senior year statistically. I think only his junior year was terrible. Rosier dreams of being as good as Harris.

CoCane

Out of all of the QB busts since Dorsey. Kyle Wright and Jacory Harris were the ones that suffered most. They had NFL talent but were ruined by bad coaching. Coker and Shannon owes them millions. Imo

solarcane

J Harris "Coach Swasey I need to bulk up and add muscle."

Swasey "Ok J12 I'm putting you on my secret can't fail diet, every morning eat 4 waffles and a whole fried chicken, wash it down with a double fudge chocolate shake, you should be good to go."

We were lucky Harris didn't die from diabetes before he got off the field.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Perry is skinny, but Jacory sometimes looked like he was wearing his older brother's pads and jersey.

solarcane

CoCane,
I thought the same thing about Jacory. I don't know if turf face was ever gonna make it, he seemed to have that self entitlement gene

I always thought Steve Walsh seemed to flourish under Garry Stevens coaching.
I think he lost one game in two years as a starter.

BigWindyCane

This quote captures the spirit, goal and mentality that Manny’s defense needs in order to be truly elite:

DT Gerald Willis: “We want the whole nation to know that you can’t run the ball on us.”

Great defenses start with stopping the run. When you have DLs that take it as a personal offense anytime some opponent tries to establish the run, then you have the makings of something special on defense

HillviewCane

I am worried we may call the game to conservatively on offense Thursday and thus put Perry in bad situations that hurt him. I understand trying to gain confidence but it's a sport. Let him go for it let's will see what happens. I am really looking forward to the game

Taylor and Meriweather(spell?) 2003

CoCane

Perry's height, speed, elusiveness, accuracy and arm strength are better then Rosier's. I did see some flaws in Perry. He's bending his learning curve though.

If developed properly, those kinks will iron out smoothly

There will be growing pains. Starting Perry the rest of the season will be the set up for next year.

The team will be a little younger but more talented.

IF Richt & them develop these boys, they will be contenders next year and beyond...

CoCane

The OL has to continue to improve to lock down the coastal and put up a good fight in the post season. Along with the development of Perry of course...

But wait... Richt hasn't named Perry the starter. I hope he's not dumb enough to start Nosier Thursday.

Can’t have inside zone, inside zone, 3rd and long incompletion, shank punt.

He will struggle like that.

We are opening the playbook and slowly getting more creative.

Hopefully, Richt gets more confidence.

We ain’t perfect, but we can be special.

Ol seems to run block better attacking down hill.

They often look passive and confused in rpo.

Go Canes!!

Greatest moon ball thrower in UM history is Gino Torreta and second place can’t even be seen in the rear view.

Go Canes!!

Adams: Miami's defense leads the nation in getting off the field on 3rd downs. UM's opponents are 10/57 (17.5%) on converting 3rd downs so far this season #Canes #theU
