Go Canes!!

Some of the posts on here are truly lol worthy.

Blame CMR for not making the switch sooner?

Just wondering when he was supposed to do it? Up only two scored on the road at Toledo in the second half?

Or maybe in the meaningless Savannah State game?

No wait, how about the LSU game he was home for because he was suspended?

He has literally handled this situation perfectly.

Kept the team as together as he could while handling a disciplinary issue with Perry that caused his suspension. Brought him in early, at home, and let him take off. He played great, there’s no QB controversy, he’ll start the most winnable game possible against UNC in preparation for the FSU game.

Complainers gotta complain.

orange 'n green in the vein

Figured before suspensions were announced going into the year this would be the most difficult opponent in the division.

Almost impossible to get a read on UNC because of the suspensions so don't get drawn into a shootout, have the defense play their best first to 30 wins game and maybe that rust holds them to 21 instead, then hope the short week is something Smart Mark finally has a read on at this point.

Sarasota 'cane

VT just cut 1.5 sacks and who knows how many hurries from the Miami game. That's a huge deal in Blacksburg, VA!

Against Toledo up 14? IMO, yes, thats when I would have liked to see it. Richt said he thought about it at 21, but he said he's been around too long and seen to many crazy things happen. He said if he had more courage, he would have at 21. Me, I would have liked to see the kid at 14 up just to see what he's made of for a series when it still kind of matters, but you are safe enough to go back to Rosier should he not be ready. Its all in personal taste, but CMR did it his way, and he's earned the right to do so. The real take home here is that its clear it had to be done, and it was.

He’s right TD. Look at VT against winless ODU yesterday. Turned into a shootout and look how that one ended. Game was dangerous and MalIk was as well as he could.

Think the timing was right, pre-scripted against FIU. And thankfully he did what we hoped he would, took the job by the throat and made it a very easy decision for CMR.

There's an old saying about skinning cats. His way worked out, my way could also. Like I said, it doesnt matter, he's the coach and he gets to make the timing call, the important thing is that he did. Now its up to everyone to get this kid ready. Did you notice the O started to get a little pep in their step when Perry was dealing? They seem to know what he can do.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Shotgun Ace Set is gonna look terrifying soon, like old times... just need that OL to get situated. A decent QB could help it out.

Cager, Thomas, OL, Jordan, Richards
Perry & Dallas

Whew! With the right OL, thats playoff caliber.

His Majesty The Dude on High

On my eyeball test, there are 5 teams ahead of that we'd beat and another 4 I believe we can beat on any given Saturday at a neutral site. Bama, Clemson, UGA, OSU & maybe Oklahoma are out of our league. Auburn, UW & LSU are maybe slightly better than us imo.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: WWIN | September 23, 2018 at 06:24 PM

Wtf are you talking about? Dabo is literally doing identically what CMR has done with Perry.

Lawrence has yet to start a game and went in the 3rd series against GT yesterday, the same series Perry did. He completely outplayed Bryant and will likely be named a starter this week.

Any of that sound familiar?

thirstybuzzardcane

1. Try a new punter
2. Move Hall ahead of Knowles
3. Move Donaldson back to guard
4. Make Deejay Dallas the starter
5. Start Scaife at LT and move St. Louis back to RT

Posted by: WWIN | September 23, 2018 at 04:05 PM

I concur!

thirstybuzzardcane

I watch the punters warm up at halftime every game, and #43 is without a doubt better than Feagles! They need to give him a shot. I believe he did punt once when Feagles was pulled.

thirstybuzzardcane

I think we need to recruit big TE's and groom them for them for OT. It probably take a couple years till they gain strength and weight, but it will be worth the wait.

I believe Winston and Fox were TE coming in and ended up on the OL.

thirstybuzzardcane

👆👆👆Sorry for the typos

solarcane

Footloose Feagles is a sweet number 89 punter in the nation right now, money well spent

I dont think you see those guys very often. After watching our line, I think we need Neal to commit and play like a 5* at LT, then we need someone like Hillery to step up and play RT like a stud. But yeah, we need an influx of talent there, even if it means grooming some guys.

This must be one of Go Canes accounts 😂😂😂

BigWindyCane

I saw Perry throw at camps and he was very impressive. I also saw him during warmups at Canes games, and I was also impressed with Perry’s talent at that time, but Perry wasn’t physically ready.

Perry has put on about 20 pounds since high school, so I predicted that Rosier and Perry would compete in fall camp, and PERRY would be given a shot to win the job. With all the hype about Rosier’s improvements and hard work over the summer, and CMR’s public comments about Rosier being his starter early in fall camp was a little surprising, but I went along with it because I felt CMR knew best. Then I saw Rosier play against LSU, Savannah St., and Toledo and I was left scratching my head. Then I saw Perry play against Savannah St. and I continued to scratch my head.

Then, yesterday after the second series, I saw Perry warming up, and I knew at that time that the Canes season was about to change.

I am so happy with what I saw yesterday, but I also acknowledge that Perry still has a lot to learn. If Perry continues to develop, there is not team in college football that the Canes can’t beat. As a matter of fact, the Canes could probably capably handle LSU in a rematch during bowl season.

OK, so I don't claim to know much of anything, and I am certainly no head football coach, but my eyes don't lie.

If I was watching Perry and Rosier in practice (I was not) the last two years and I could not, even for a minute, determine that Perry was better than Rosier in every way, shape and form possible, I would have to consider having SERIOUS eye surgery tomorrow. It is not even close.

WTF are you talking about!

Kelly and Lawrence have been pretty much 1a 1b... Rosier and Perry have been 1 and 2a Perry 2b Weldon... CMR didn't even wanna name Perry the backup. Perry only got to hand off the ball vs TOLEDO

1. I believe we have a walk-on punter #CantBeAnyWorse

4. No... we need to get the offense off and running from the first possession. Dallas knows how to make something out of nothing and I think Homer is better coming off the bench... especially when the defense is a little gassed.

5. #CantBeAnyWorse

Posted by: WWIN | September 23, 2018 at 05:08 PM

1. If it can, sweet Jesus.

4. Dallas’ lateral quickness helps when the hole isn’t perfect. Homer is not as good with this line. Crowd him in the backfield and he can be neutralized. But give him a crease near the general area the play is designed to go with a full head of steam, he is lights out.

5. I know Scaife is short, but his athleticism and aggression maybe just what we need. I think he can knock ends off the ball right now in the run game. We wasted a lot of reps with Malik, Knowles and other underperforming upperclassmen. Why not give the young guys a shot? Might get a pleasant surprise

Gerald Willis is a great reason to love the Canes. A player that UF gave up on, CMR and his staff were patient and developed one of the most dominant DTs in college football. Another person I am also happy to see out there is Patchtan. APatchan obviously isn’t as dominant, but he is pretty solid. CMR and his staff remained patient through all his knee injuries and moved him around on offense and defense, finding a spot for him to contribute in a substantial way.

CMR seems to be more patient and dedicated to his players. That’s a college coach I can cheer for.

MALIBU, Calif. – Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women's tennis team earned one of the most prestigious collegiate championship trophies Sunday at the Malibu Racquet Club.

The junior defeated Pepperdine's Evgeniya Levashova, 6-4, 6-3, to win the elite Oracle ITA Masters, live on ESPN3. For Perez-Somarriba, ranked third in the nation and seeded fourth in the tournament, the win was her fifth in straight sets during the four-day, 32-player tournament.

Lawrence threw 9 passes in the A&M game and didnt play from early 3rd quarter on.

He went with the experienced, inferior QB down the stretch didn’t he. Just like Saban did the entire 2017 season, until he had no choice, when anyone with two eyes can see Tua is by far the better player.

So Lawrence threw 9 passes vs TEXAS A&M and Perry threw 0 passes vs TOLEDO? Thanks for proving my point! You also leave out the fact that Lawrence is a TRUE FRESHMAN and Perry is a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN!

FIFY!

AeroCane

Go canes - stop fighting a fight you can’t win!
Richt, never, I mean even if you put a gun to his head would have put tua in the championship game. He would of left hurts in and lost - no effing doubt about it. He should of had Perry ready last year and he could have easily won the pitt game for us.
Richt lied to everyone- rosier did not get better - in fact he makes EVERYONE around him worse. I am willing to take Perry’s mistakes but upside over rosier anyday.

BigWindyCane1

Nationally, the Canes are #1 in TFL, #1 in opp. third down conversions and #2 in total defense. Through 1/3 of the regular season, the Canes are truly elite on defense. A few more turnovers, and this could compare favorably to some of the best defenses the Canes have had since the early 2000s.

BigWindyCane1

Also through the first 1/3 of the regular season, I am also looking at the Canes improvement on offense over last season in key statistics - third down conversions and points per game, and that is very impressive given that the Canes are not generating as many turnovers. Also unlike last season, there is much more unrealized potential in this Canes offense.

The OL is still improving and gelling, Lingard has not reached his potential yet, Homer and Dallas are just getting started and Perry just got his first real playing time without JT in the lineup. In addition, there is still the prospect that AR could get healthy and return.

If CMR taps into this potential, this could truly be an elite offense in college football by the end of the season.

AeroCane

^^^^
Nice post BWC- I agree but the big if is ‘richt’ - I think with Perry he will be more comfortable opening the playbook up

Go Canes!!

Posted by: AeroCane | September 24, 2018 at 07:22 AM

I’ve been saying since last season that Malik wasn’t the answer. Not sure what you mean.

I also think Perry wasn’t ready last year. By his own admission he’d never even broken down film before and burning his redshirt after 10-11 games would have been crazy.

This season he was suspended for LSU, played extensively against SS and likely would have against Toledo had the game gotten too close for comfort but Malik playing well.

CMR prescripted his FIU entrance and Perry took full advantage of the opportunity, snatching the job away from Rosier like everyone hoped.

Turning this into a blame thing when wee 3-1 and appear to have our bQB issues heading in the right direction is just the way some people deflect away from their insane comments about how good Rosier is and how it’s everyone else’s fault.

Terrance Sullivan

BTW NP is taking the first team reps followed by MR, CW, JW.

solarcane

With Perry, the receivers and running backs, and an inovative oc that takes advantage of his players strengths we would be a legitimate top 5 to 10 team We wouldn't break out in a cold sweat everytime we faced a ranked team.

I like having a defense that plays with reckless abandon and creates mayhem. I don't sweat giving up a score once in awhile just because they are going 100 mph constantly.

This is the closest to Hurricane football I have seen in many years.

A lot of high school kids see our 2 and third team guys and true freshmen playing, this is a great tool in helping them decide about playing now on a top 10 team versus playing as a junior somewhere else.

Go Canes!!
