Id say we need to get really good with the 3*s and occasional 4*s we get. No matter who they are, they must be good enough contribute by their SO or RSSO year, to win the ACC Coastal by their JR or RSJR year. We also need depth. That would should give us 5 to 6 playable DTs every year, at least 2 should be 6'3" 325. Unfortunately, we arent even there number-wise. As for the NY vs FL thing, I too am suspect of NY HSF, but... I have only seen 1 DT kid move like Blissett does in SoFL, thats 4* Ingraham, and everyone thinks he'll commit to Miami.

BigWindyCane

Miami is now a -12 point favorite on the road at Toledo.

The Canes are physically bigger than Toledo, and I am looking for the Canes to impose their will on Toledo I am looking to see whether the Canes can effectively run the ball on Toledo if the Canes get 200+ yards rushing today and zero turnovers, I will be very pleased. It will demonstrate that the Canes are serious contenders for an ACC Coastal title.

Bama DT signees by year:

2018--1 4 Star, 1 3 Star
2017--1 4 Star
2016--3 4 Stars
2015--1 5 Star, 1 3 Star

I'd venture to say ours is just about the same.

Sarasota 'cane

I don't know about you all but I'm loving the new red-shirt rule. In years past we would never get to see a kid like Jarren Williams unless it was an emergency. I hope all 4 QB's play again today and against FIU. Jarren is big in the pocket by the way compared to Perry. You could see that immediately last week when he went in. I'm not anointing the guy, but I liked what I saw.

Herbieibis

I'll say this. For at least the last 10 years we have been reaching for DT's. Look at Willis, whom I was skeptical of only because he hasn't been on the field much.Oh there is a difference in stars, in case u haven't been watching Bama play. They've been on top because they s stock pile of 4's and 5's, on both lines. I'd dare say that both their first and second team Dee lines ain't nothing but 4 & 5's.
Richt has neglected the Dee line his first 2 classes, with the exception of Silvera. Nothing wrong with bring in s project type player as depth but what we need more potential star power. If we want to get to the top and stay there, then we need to be stacking talent.
If we need 5 or 6 Dee linemen, then at least 4 need to be 4's or above. Right now we have a bunch of 3's and u would think after last year's class we would be just as good or better but we are not, so far. With 17 recruits I would think we should have at least 12 4 stars but we have maybe 7.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Herbie is right though that we must be able to recruit the athletic big bodies. I wish Holley was 6'4" and 310 instead of 6'2" 280. I just dont think we will end up with 1 of those guys this year. Ford needs to get better and could be gone before we blink, that would leave us only Miller. Taking a 6'3" 310 manchild is mandatory every year.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Stars arent everything GC. I'm good taking a 3* when they will be better down the road. Look at the 4* RBs in SoFL this year... many leave a lot to be desired, Wright is elite at making people miss, but his 40 time cant be better than a 4.6. McIntosh has a big frame, good hands, but his wiggle and top speed arent so good. Now look at Crowley who needs to put on weight. When he foes, he's good really good speed, cuts well, good at making you miss. I'd admit that Wright and McIntosh will be better freshmen, but Crowley will likely be the better junior.

Go Canes!!

P.S. It's Game Day!!

Go Canes!!

Good stuff TD. Always heard you can't teach size or speed, two things this kid obviously has plenty of. He can be made stronger and taught better technique.

For anyone interested, his game file is in this thread:

https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/class-impact-jason-blissett-to-miami.136783/

His Majesty The Dude on High

The DT Im really not so sure about is 3* Munoz. He just doesnt seem to be that athletic, but if you havent seen him, he looks like he could bench the offensive line. Could be the next The Rock.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 15, 2018 at 12:15 AM

Here's my unbiased evaluation of him.

6'3" 260 is what he looks like on tape, but they are saying as much as 6'4" 270. He is terrifically explosive off the LoS, but not very strong. When someone gets hands on him, he's done, if not, then the QB is in trouble. I think he plays a bit too upright when he either a) loses concentration or b) gets tired. Not the best motor, or very long arms. For me, his future depends on a few things, developing relentless hands and carrying himself at about 305. I am concerned about the talent he faces in NY, but he is very, very explosive. A good project DT to go along with 4* Ingraham should he commit, which looks likely.

We absolutely need another Ford or Miller type in this class though. Looking for 6'3" and 310 plus. I would have really liked to have gotten Sorrells, but thats looking very unlikely at this point. Miami could take as many as 5 DTs, but really need at least 2 that can contribute next year. I think Ingraham is 1 and we need 1 more.

Go Canes!!

Go,
U ain't getting timed in a shuttle during a game. Players are a dime a dozen who look good at a camp. Golden used to hand out ships at his camps like a bag of Tata chips. Let their play in games define them.

95% of what you judge players on when you post here is by the number of stars they have. What do you think these services look at when they're ranking kids? A ton of it comes from how they perform in camps and how they project going forward, not just how they perform on the field.

That's why a guy like John Garvin, who didn't do the whole camp circuit, racks up 22 sacks against S Fla comp gets rated a 3 star and Pat Surtain has 17 tackles and ONE interception at Heritage and get rated the #1 overall CB in the nation.

Say what you want about this staff, but their player assessments the last two years have been fantastic. This kid looks to have expolsive physical skills. Writing him off as another backup is kind of ridiculous.

Hawaii, there was a fourth discipline that was handed out to Urban as well:

4) Urban will have to write, โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ on an athletic building whiteboard three times. The actual writing of the phrase can however be handled by an intern

TonyCane

I think the biggest difference is the efforts by out of state programs to Hoover up recruits. Alabama, Ohio State, Tenn, and others really stepped up their game to pull in Florida talent around 2006 forward. Even Rutgers had a billboard marketing their program that they put us in South Florida. Our recruiting program fell behind badly under Randy Shannon. Golden modernized it, to his credit, and Richt is building much further on that foundation.

TruCane81

Got it,Old Skool.

All we gotta do is put Feagle back five or 10 yards deeper.

Problem solved!

Old Skool

FWIW Here's more yip info from Golf Digest

The yips are not limited to golf. The condition has similar effects in activities like darts, archery, and shooting. In this country, there have been several prominent examples in baseball, most notably the Yankee second baseman Chuck Knoblauch, an All Star who eventually couldn't make an accurate throw from second base. Like Els making long putts, the problem was minimized when he was moved to left field and he had to throw longer distances.

Old Skool

Maybe Feagles has a case of the yips which are causing his shanks.

His Majesty The Dude on High

So after 2 games who was more right? Those mostly concerned about Rosier, or those mostly concerned about the OL?

Go Canes!!

Hoping his kid is a modern day Tin Cup and all he has is a bad case of the shanks!

TruCane81

30 yds is a good punt for us with what we have seen, Herbie.

Herbieibis

U mean Third and 6 and throw a quick out for 3 yds. And then a 30 yd. shanked punt.

BigWindyCane1

I hope we get to see Lingard get a few reps. I think he has the big-play, game-breaking potential and ability that Walton and Duke had, but maybe faster and bigger. With more big plays in the running game, the Canes offensive line might look a little better.

I really liked the way Lingard looked running the ball against Savannah St. He follows his blocks well, and he is REALLY FAST, and was barely touched on the TD run. Lingard showed good vision.

As CMR said, Mallory and Jordan look like the best TEs in the 2018 class. Lingard might be the best RB in that class. In addition, the 2018 WR class isn't too shabby, and they are full of really good looking players. The future is very, very bright.

SOUP

BigWindyCane1

If you look at the numbers, there is actually more talent in Florida today than there was when Butch was coaching at UM in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The problem now that Butch didn't face in the 1990s and early 2000s is greater competition. Florida has more qualify major college football programs, like FIU, USF and UCF that are competing and recruiting good 2-3 stars, which were depth players that oftentimes would be developed into stars, such as Santana Moss. Limitations on the number of players on each roster has also hurt. In addition, other out-of-state, top-tier programs are also coming here to compete with the Canes for Florida's 4-5 star recruits.

It's a totally new recruiting landscape today, and CMR and his staff and trying to make adjustments. I like their last three classes, and the 2018 class is obviously full of future NFL players. But there has also been some misses too. Success on the field is the best recruiting tool, so the Canes need to get back to the ACC Championship game

Terrance Sullivan

Bottom Line The Talent is in the South period from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina provides half of NFL Rosters. That's crazy. Just recruit the South in General and we good. IJS.

Actually, itโ€™s more than that. Palm Beach, Lee and MARTIN Counties are not included, and they have NFL players like Khalil Mack, Sammy Watkins, Jacoby Ford, Pierre Garรงon, etc.

Talent in Florida is amazing. The Canes canโ€™t get them all - just need more of our share going to Coral Gables to play college football. The list of players vary from five stars to three star and unranked recruits. CMR and his staff just need to recruit the right ones
