The Miami Hurricanes moved up one spot in each major poll Sunday, checking in at No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll.
The Hurricanes, who routed Savannah State 77-0 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, were ranked No. 22 by the AP and No. 21 in the coaches' poll last week after losing badly to LSU at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Sophomore defensive lineman Jon Garvin, who delivered an eight-tackle performance, and freshman tight end Brevin Jordan, who totaled career-best marks in catches (seven), receiving yards (52) and touchdowns (two), were among Miami's top performers against the Tigers.
Miami's position of No. 21 in the AP Top 25 marked the 20th straight appearance in the poll, extending the sixth-longest streak in program history. Miami's 20th consecutive position in the AP poll represent the 10th-longest active streak in the country.
The Miami Hurricanes continue their schedule on Saturday, Sept. 15 with a trip to Toledo, Ohio for a match up against the Rockets (1-0).
Kickoff for the match up, set for broadcast on ESPN2, 560 WQAM and 990 AM ESPN Deportes is set for 12 p.m. ET.
First, only because I'm the only one still up.

Believe me, I know. As I said, coaches never change at Miami. They just ride their sh*tshow to the pink-slip and buyout.

Would you like to retract any part of the following statement?
Richt will be much better.
Rosier will be much better.
Everyone else will be INSANE!
I think CMR sees the writing on the wall and is modernizing. He was already a top flight coach and he is HUNGRY to prove the naysayers wrong.
Our teams have played with a nastiness you really didn’t see from Georgia outside of the offensive line. This is due to coaches development and competitiveness.
He will retire from here with TWO national titles. Maybe even more.

There will be praise this season. We will will the Coastal again beating VT and FSU. We will see the changing of the QB guard. We will see a filthy, fun defense 10 more times. And this year we will bring it to Clemson. All the while I think we will get another insane '19 recruiting class. Scary thing is 2020 is already elite. The '19 season will be better than this team, it could it theory play for a national title depending on the strength of the QB play, and/or OL. The U must land Neal, Tarquin and 1 more Tackle prospect, maybe Wright. Then in '20 if players come back, we'll be the favorite.

Stats mean nothing to me when playing a high school team. Lets see how this team plays starting game 4.
BTW - the local boy from Orange city will have a bright future.

If I am a HS recruit and played defense, there is no other school I would rather go to then FSU. The though of getting to wear a backpack after a turnover just makes me feel all warm inside.

The Herb has these thoughts.
Richt hasn't forgot how to call plays. We have plenty of skill position talent and then some. We have WR'S open. We have RB'S who can tote the rock. Sadly we don't have a O-tackle one on this team. Running against good teams is going to be tough. U couple that problem with an inaccurate QB, then u really have worries.
Recruiting wise for 2019, unless we pick up the pace and get lucky our Offensive tackle woes will continue. Also not that we need one, but we probably won't bring in a QB, this cycle.
I'm sure most of u have noticed that our acclaimed Linebacking crew has been average at best and the progression has not been there yet. These guys should be a wrecking crew. This is another area that we need an up grade in talent, overall!
The same goes for the DT position. Ford and Bethel are solid but not elite. Willis will be gone along with Tito, whom I would lump in there with Ford and Bethel.
Silvera will be a beast but he is just one guy, we need 3 or 4 like him.
If there is no improvement in that O-Line by seasons end then Searles has to go.
The same goes for the progression of our QB'S, Richt needs to can his son or reassign him to booking flights for our away games or whatever.
If our LB's continue on the path they have taken the first couple games then Patk e or whoever is coaching them needs to go.
The WR position looks stout, the DB position looks good, the young TE's are going to be great, our DE's, although we need to add a little depth looks good.
Just got to address both lines with Talent, not projects. The sames goes at LB. U are talking about 8 to 10 players and we should be set. Oh one last thing, get a dam punter!

The new redshirt rule is so freaking awesome. This is th. EST possible example of it:
Confirmed: #Canes freshman DE Greg Rousseau sustained a right ankle fracture during UM’s win Saturday
Rousseau will undergo surgery this week at UHealth Sports Medicine Institute at The Lennar Foundation Medical Center. A timetable for his return will be determined after surgery
Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 10, 2018 at 10:49 AM
Lots of good facts Herb.
Only one I don’t get is the LB situation. Back out one 50 yarder against LSU where we did a poor job substituting and they had 105 yards on 40 carries. Their QB ended the night 11/24 for 140, including that BS catch to the one that wasn’t reviewed and should have been incomplete.
Savanah State had a total of 78 yards of offense for the entire game.
Imo they’ll be fine. But your point out a ton of things this team needs to improve on.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 10, 2018 at 10:55 AM
Go,
Depth of talent. Our whole LB crew is mainly a bunch of 3 star players. What they did against Susanne St. I wouldn't even count.
I like our starting LB's but they got to bring it every game and that has been a problem.
Rousseau probably won't be back and I wouldn't rush him back just to get in a couple more games.
Posted by: Herbieibis | September 10, 2018 at 11:35 AM
When you hold a team to a total of 78 yards that's pretty damn good no matter who your playing. I wonder what's the least amount that Miami has ever given up?

Richt discusses QB play in Barry Jackson's column today.
Posted by: Old Skool | September 10, 2018 at 12:06 PM
If Barrow was our lb coach, all three starters would be first and second team all acc.
Our defense could give a damn about fundamental gap integrity. None of them are tackling with the consistency you would expect from three year starters We got blitz era consistently taking the same gaps..
They came in as true freshmen and held their own. By all accounts they are working hard. But they are not progressing?
You better believe that our poor coaching is being used against us on the recruiting trail.

The shutout against Savannah St. was the first shutout by the Canes defense under Manny Diaz.

After two games, freshman Lingard leads the Canes with two rushing TDs, and freshman Jordan leads the Canes with two receiving TDs. Redshirt Freshman Perry is tied for the team lead with 3 passing TDs.
Future is bright.

Big Plays:
Thomas had a 67 yard reception for a TD and Lingard had a 62 yard rush for a TD.
Canes have playmakers who can make big plays.

I'd fell 1,000 times better about not taking a QB in 2019 IF Mark Richt's nephew, Jon Richt's cousin was committed for 2020. They need to lock that recruit down and in a hurry.
Posted by: His Majesty The Dude on High | September 10, 2018 at 01:39 PM
After two weeks, the Canes lead the ACC with 3.04 yards a play and 187 yards a game. No other ACC team is win 100 yards of that. It’s only two games (LSU and Savannah St.), but it still looks impressive given that some teams started with two cupcakes rather than one.
Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 10, 2018 at 01:52 PM
TSully, thanks. The game was fun, had everything in it. All the players who got a chance to get on the field were happy, and it should keep them all motivated.

Here is another trend that I hope continues this season:
2017 | 2018
--------------------------------
3d Down Conv. 28% | 46%
Red Zone TD% 58% | 81%
Its only two games, but two critical areas that needed significant improvement on offense trending in the right direction. If this continues, the Canes can have a great season.

You're going to miss Butch's "surprise" onside kick attempt for whenever the Panthers receive! That might be worth the price of admission right there.
"Posted by: CaneRock | September 10, 2018 at 03:12 PM"
At least someone around here is in mid-season form for all our sake.
Got to figure the Hurricanes cover the 10 for the first win of the season to get to .500 for the year, even at before noon. VMI got Toledo even less ready for their bye week prep for UM than the worst FCS team did for Miami.
Smart Mark's an above average road coach at 75% for his career but only 64% at UM right now, which is good because that's going to decide the division thanks to the off a bye for both teams Boston road game this season.

I was actually proud of you in the off season. You were speaking halfway coherently. Now you back throwing cryptic shade, while China’s is why I told you to go blow yourself in the first place. I know you salty. Get over it.
Don’t like what I post? Debate it logically. But you ain’t smart enough for that.
You think that bullshyt you wrote bout Richt’s record at GEORGIA means that the coaches wouldn’t be responsible for a loss went unnoticed. It didn’t. Newsflash: most of our coaches suck, and have for a long time.
All the proof you need of that fact are special teams and penalties, but the problems go way way beyond that. But naw it’s just the gold hens, am I right?
Look, I’m not gay and I’m not interested. So keep your homoerotic stalking to the bath houses you frequent.
Leave the football talk to people who ain’t scared to plainly say what they mean instead of talking in code like a bytch. Ok phuck boy?
