The Miami Hurricanes moved up one spot in each major poll Sunday, checking in at No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll.
The Hurricanes, who routed Savannah State 77-0 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, were ranked No. 22 by the AP and No. 21 in the coaches' poll last week after losing badly to LSU at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Sophomore defensive lineman Jon Garvin, who delivered an eight-tackle performance, and freshman tight end Brevin Jordan, who totaled career-best marks in catches (seven), receiving yards (52) and touchdowns (two), were among Miami's top performers against the Tigers.
Miami's position of No. 21 in the AP Top 25 marked the 20th straight appearance in the poll, extending the sixth-longest streak in program history. Miami's 20th consecutive position in the AP poll represent the 10th-longest active streak in the country.
The Miami Hurricanes continue their schedule on Saturday, Sept. 15 with a trip to Toledo, Ohio for a match up against the Rockets (1-0).
Kickoff for the match up, set for broadcast on ESPN2, 560 WQAM and 990 AM ESPN Deportes is set for 12 p.m. ET.
Go,
U ain't getting timed in a shuttle during a game. Players are a dime a dozen who look good at a camp. Golden used to hand out ships at his camps like a bag of Tata chips. Let their play in games define them.

95% of what you judge players on when you post here is by the number of stars they have. What do you think these services look at when they're ranking kids? A ton of it comes from how they perform in camps and how they project going forward, not just how they perform on the field.
That's why a guy like John Garvin, who didn't do the whole camp circuit, racks up 22 sacks against S Fla comp gets rated a 3 star and Pat Surtain has 17 tackles and ONE interception at Heritage and get rated the #1 overall CB in the nation.
Say what you want about this staff, but their player assessments the last two years have been fantastic. This kid looks to have expolsive physical skills. Writing him off as another backup is kind of ridiculous.

Here's my unbiased evaluation of him.
6'3" 260 is what he looks like on tape, but they are saying as much as 6'4" 270. He is terrifically explosive off the LoS, but not very strong. When someone gets hands on him, he's done, if not, then the QB is in trouble. I think he plays a bit too upright when he either a) loses concentration or b) gets tired. Not the best motor, or very long arms. For me, his future depends on a few things, developing relentless hands and carrying himself at about 305. I am concerned about the talent he faces in NY, but he is very, very explosive. A good project DT to go along with 4* Ingraham should he commit, which looks likely.
We absolutely need another Ford or Miller type in this class though. Looking for 6'3" and 310 plus. I would have really liked to have gotten Sorrells, but thats looking very unlikely at this point. Miami could take as many as 5 DTs, but really need at least 2 that can contribute next year. I think Ingraham is 1 and we need 1 more.

The DT Im really not so sure about is 3* Munoz. He just doesnt seem to be that athletic, but if you havent seen him, he looks like he could bench the offensive line. Could be the next The Rock.

Good stuff TD. Always heard you can't teach size or speed, two things this kid obviously has plenty of. He can be made stronger and taught better technique.
For anyone interested, his game file is in this thread:

Stars arent everything GC. I'm good taking a 3* when they will be better down the road. Look at the 4* RBs in SoFL this year... many leave a lot to be desired, Wright is elite at making people miss, but his 40 time cant be better than a 4.6. McIntosh has a big frame, good hands, but his wiggle and top speed arent so good. Now look at Crowley who needs to put on weight. When he foes, he's good really good speed, cuts well, good at making you miss. I'd admit that Wright and McIntosh will be better freshmen, but Crowley will likely be the better junior.

Herbie is right though that we must be able to recruit the athletic big bodies. I wish Holley was 6'4" and 310 instead of 6'2" 280. I just dont think we will end up with 1 of those guys this year. Ford needs to get better and could be gone before we blink, that would leave us only Miller. Taking a 6'3" 310 manchild is mandatory every year.

I'll say this. For at least the last 10 years we have been reaching for DT's. Look at Willis, whom I was skeptical of only because he hasn't been on the field much.Oh there is a difference in stars, in case u haven't been watching Bama play. They've been on top because they s stock pile of 4's and 5's, on both lines. I'd dare say that both their first and second team Dee lines ain't nothing but 4 & 5's.
Richt has neglected the Dee line his first 2 classes, with the exception of Silvera. Nothing wrong with bring in s project type player as depth but what we need more potential star power. If we want to get to the top and stay there, then we need to be stacking talent.
If we need 5 or 6 Dee linemen, then at least 4 need to be 4's or above. Right now we have a bunch of 3's and u would think after last year's class we would be just as good or better but we are not, so far. With 17 recruits I would think we should have at least 12 4 stars but we have maybe 7.

I don't know about you all but I'm loving the new red-shirt rule. In years past we would never get to see a kid like Jarren Williams unless it was an emergency. I hope all 4 QB's play again today and against FIU. Jarren is big in the pocket by the way compared to Perry. You could see that immediately last week when he went in. I'm not anointing the guy, but I liked what I saw.

Bama DT signees by year:
2018--1 4 Star, 1 3 Star
2017--1 4 Star
2016--3 4 Stars
2015--1 5 Star, 1 3 Star
I'd venture to say ours is just about the same.

Miami is now a -12 point favorite on the road at Toledo.
The Canes are physically bigger than Toledo, and I am looking for the Canes to impose their will on Toledo I am looking to see whether the Canes can effectively run the ball on Toledo if the Canes get 200+ yards rushing today and zero turnovers, I will be very pleased. It will demonstrate that the Canes are serious contenders for an ACC Coastal title.

I said earlier I would like to see the Canes get 200+ yards rushing. Canes get 54 yards rushing on the first drive. So far, so good!

Id say we need to get really good with the 3*s and occasional 4*s we get. No matter who they are, they must be good enough contribute by their SO or RSSO year, to win the ACC Coastal by their JR or RSJR year. We also need depth. That would should give us 5 to 6 playable DTs every year, at least 2 should be 6'3" 325. Unfortunately, we arent even there number-wise. As for the NY vs FL thing, I too am suspect of NY HSF, but... I have only seen 1 DT kid move like Blissett does in SoFL, thats 4* Ingraham, and everyone thinks he'll commit to Miami.
