We came, we saw, we got massacred Texas Chain Saw style.
That was the story of your Miami Hurricanes visit to AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on the Sunday before Labor Day.
The stadium was as beautiful as advertised but the LSU Tigers mauled Miami and won convincingly 33-17 in a totally lopsided affair.
The game was basically close until the end of the first quarter but was never in doubt beyond that as Miami simply could not score.
Blood and guts were everywhere and it was not pretty as the Hurricanes got sawed up big time in "The Big D".
The same old UM offense under Mark Richt showed up and stunk up the place in another hapless and pitiful performance. They had no clue what to do or how to do it and looked lost and confused. Every phase of the offense was poor.
The Miami defense also did not hold up their end of the bargain as they got beat physically and mentally over and over again. The vaunted and often feared turnover chain never made it out of its carrying case, and as a result, the momentum never swung for the Hurricanes.
It was a horrible game and a horrible way to waste a couple thousand dollars on supporting what has now appears to be a bad investment.
Based on this performance, here is what we think about the current situation and what should happen now:
- Richt is an average head coach and has not lived up to the hype (his team was completely unprepared).
- Richt is a below average offensive coordinator (his play calling and the offensive execution were awful).
- His son should be fired at QB coach tomorrow. He hasn't done anything for anybody.
- QB Malik Rosier is not good. He is inaccurate and inconsistent at best and has regressed since last year.
- The offensive line is itself offensive and their coach should be fired yesterday. Weakest link on the team.
- The Canes should go for it on fourth down and whatever because their punter and special teams are embarrassing.
- The defense needs to go back to basics and stop telegraphing their blitzes before the snap.
- The fans, cheerleaders and band are the best part of this "team".
This nonsense needs to stop and stop now. Otherwise this season will be lost, and this team will regress once again.
And that is simply too much to take for the Hurricane faithful who spend BIG money to celebrate their team, not to suffer humiliation.
Back on top!

U forgot to mention our sorry ass punter, Feagles. The 11 penalties. Telegraphing every blitz u bring. I get that no game is perfect but when u fail at 90% of it u got a major malfunction.
It's like I said last week, playing on the road is an albetros for us. It's like we get dam stage freight.

It is not as bad as you think but we blew it no doubt. Our coaching IQ is low. We are not innovators there at all. It is not required but you also can't be telegraphing everything and win with bad QB play.

I don't know that the entire offense stank it up. From what I saw the wide receivers were getting open. Unfortunately, our QB either acts like a point guard throwing bounce passes or alley oops or else doesn't have time to throw period

When DL > OL, QB & receivers must step up. QB didnāt.
When QB is off or just average, the OL & RB must step up. Neither did.
Again, the O looked decent to good Q1. But the team is mentally soft. When a few bad things happened - missed FG, crap punt, LSU big play... both O & D imploded. 11 penalties?!? How many negated a 1st down or good play? How many gave LSU a 1st down?? U can win 8-10 games playing this way but it wonāt work with the big dogs.

This team makes everything look difficult. The trend these days is to outsmart the other coach. How about outsmarting them by being efficient, simple and adjust. Makes no sense to have 5-7 step QB drop backs when the O line can't protect. Makes no sense to throw jump balls to the shortest receiver they have (JT) then throw deep to (LC). How about try simple throws and get the ball into the real play makers hands. How about not blitz from the outside every time. Why not up the middle in the QB's face? So many simple adjustments that can be made, but aren't. Disappointing.

The coach then continued, when asked if Miami was considering making a change at punter, āHeck no. Heās our guy, man. Look, we have guys on our team that can punt, OK? And we practice punt every single day. And donāt you think that if we thought somebody was better than him weād play him over Feagles? Yeah, we would. Right now every day is competition. We donāt just rep our ones. We never do that. We always rep ones and twos. Every day somebody is battling to take your job. Heās our guy. Feagles is going to be fine, trust me."
That's all you need to know right there.
We are not stupid you know?

Gauthier making the line calls now is telling in more than one way. Assuming Gauthier can read the 1st & 2nd levels of the defense, then all Malik has to worry about is reading the DBs. Either way, it's all on Malik now, no excuses.
But I'ma ride with my dawg till the wheels fall off, unlike WWIN who seems to have jumped ship on me...in my Morgan Freeman voice from Lean On Me, "You droppin' out on me huh?".

Upperclassmen are making freshman mistakes.
Might as well let the freshen make freshman mistakes.
And no more mass subs in the first half. I thought our conditioning program was top notch now.

This is why Richt was like number 5 or 6 on my list of candidates when AG got himself canned. I said, and I almost quote myself, "Richt is interesting in that hes decent enough to recruit Miami well enough to do some damage in the Coastal and perhaps well enough to establish Miami in the ACC. Once we get there, perhaps without the likes of Bama, Florida and LSU, maybe he can win enough to get a bunch of 4 and 5 stars to compete." Im not surprised at all with where we are. Hiring Richt was always about the long game.

I still believe our QB problem is in this order...
1. CMR
2. CMRJR
3. Rosier
Rosier was better 3yrs ago!
But at this point he can't afford to miss those passes he missed vs lsu... we have too many options now, too many players need to touch the ball. He'll get another chance tho starting Saturday

You smoke crack, donāt you boy? DONāT YOU SMOKE CRACK?
Best movie ever.
Seriously though, I aināt give up on Malik after the three game slide. Hell, he made me look like a real tool with my lof pick. But I drunk the kool aid about him improving. I figured they were doing the things in the off season that got him a scholarship offer in the first place. But Sundayās debacle proved NOTHING has changed.
When you watch his hs tape, he is really good at play action quick throws and roll outs. Yeah he will miss those too, but not like he does throwing from the pocket on five step drop. When we ran play action quick throws on run downs, he was successful. But like always, we abandoned it for the bomb. Did we roll him out at all?
Passes over 8 yards have to be COMPLETELY off the table in the first half if you start him. It donāt matter if JT is 20 yards open, if Malik throws it deep early in the game, bench him.
Our mission on offense has to be manufacturing 3rd and 4 or less and then making a strong play call. Malik converts 3rd downs with his legs when it aināt to far. Thatās our strength, it aināt sexy but we can manufacture first downs and time of possession even with his SEVERE passing limitations.
Triple option, speed option, end around, middle screen, tight end screen. I aināt even scratched the surface of the strategies available that we just ignore.
Malik fell apart because instead of naturally doing things he does well regularly, he has to think about doing the things he sucks at under tons of pressure.
I have never seen a staff so determined to hang a struggling qb out to dry. When you combine his inability to read defense with what he said about no coaching adjustments for the blitz, you see we got bigger problems than just missed throws.
We look complacent in all phases, and you all know what I have to say about where that complacency comes from.

I fully support moving on from Malik. Its time for Perry or Weldon to sink or swim. Here's my thing, if we lost to LSU so be it, that in itself is not a reason to pull him, but where we are now Malik is an absolute liability. I would not feel comfortable putting him out there against GT, let alone FSU or VT which are now must win games. Perry or Weldon have to start getting game reps because even their HS coaches could get them to make those throws to Jordan. Lets not kid ourselves into thinking Richt's Awfense is just too complicated for them, lol. There are no audibles or motion looks in this Awfense. Its reading the safety and a throw, hopefully the can feel the pressure and not get happy feet. Sorry, but watching Perry in practice, he is waaaaay more accurate than Rosier. Rosier can have the 1st qtr. 2nd qtr should belong to Perry or Weldon. If they do well, they should get the 3rd qtr also. If not, bring in the next guy to take the 3rd & 4th if he does well. If everyone does terrible, bring in Williams for the 4th.

Posted by: CGNC | September 06, 2018 at 02:31 PM
If we just STOP with the freaking long bombs EVERYTIME we Rosier drops back, and concentrate on the short/midrange throws, it'll open up the deep ball more often. The blitzing, draw plays, screens, quick slants, I mean just so many things we didn't do. However, it's ONE game, and if you're gonna lose, lose early, and lose to a good team, because drumming some FCS team 54-0 doesn't tell you ANYTHING about your team. Trying to be optimistic here, and know we still have time to correct things. Hopefully CMR will do just that?

Posted by: ColaCane | September 06, 2018 at 02:32 PM
Have you seen Rosier try to complete midrange passes? They often go for pick-sixes. Richt's Awfense could be way more friendly to Rosier, but asking a coach to change for the sake of winning at Miami must be an NCAA violation these days? Doesnt matter though if he cant hit the wide open TE. And when I say wide open, I mean you should see the pictures.

Iām all for benching Malik instead of making him the most hated man in Caneland and destroying morale.
But we WONāT bench him!
Also, we see how they throwing Malik to the wolves with ZERO help. You think they gonna help the freshman who can actually throw the ball?
There will be much of the same problems with a sub. We will probably just end up trading a few extra completions for Tony Romo type meltdowns.
Thing is the coaching blunders are SO TERRIBLE, I canāt even criticize the players because I donāt know how good or bad they are because our scenes and game prep are so inconsistent.
Posted by: TruCane81 | September 06, 2018 at 02:50 PM
On the bright side, we may have our best ever pass catching tight end.
Brevin is AWESOME!
We gotta get a qb. With JT on the team, Brevin will be open forever more.
Posted by: TruCane81 | September 06, 2018 at 02:54 PM
Cola, it gotta be short, at least until we get Malik rolling early. He canāt hit medium.
But any shot to develop that was squandered in the spring and summer.
The team is turning on him and itās a damn shame because it didnāt have to be like this.
Itās time to move on and itās a shame. I think the kid could have given us some good, though unconventional, offense.

0-7 on third downs at one point. Let that sink in.
This was a SPECIFIC area for improvement and we still suck. That and RED ZONE offense. Dawg crap.

BTW - Nothing was necessary vs LSU to āopen upā the long ball. WRs were open all game. āOpenā vs a good to very good college defense is still a tight throw 90% of the time. We had many chances to hit on plays downfield, and did on several. But we missed on many more.
