Out with the old and in with the new!
In his first year at the helm, University of Miami head coach Gino DiMare released the Hurricanes' 2019 baseball schedule Thursday.
"We always play one of the toughest schedules in the country year in and year out, and this season is no different," DiMare said. "The ACC is consistently one of the top conferences in all of college baseball. Add in Florida and some of the other teams we play from across the state that are competing for conference championships and it should be a challenging schedule. I know our players and staff are looking forward to it."
Miami opens its inaugural season under the direction of DiMare on Feb. 15 with the opener of a three-game series against Rutgers (Feb. 15-17).
The Hurricanes' home schedule also includes series with Georgia Tech (March 8-10), NC State (March 22-24), Florida State (April 5-7), Virginia Tech (April 26-28) and Duke (May 16-18), among others.
Miami's road schedule includes trips to Florida (Feb. 22-24), North Carolina (March 15-17), Pittsburgh (March 29-31), Virginia (April 12-14), Louisville (April 18-20) and Wake Forest (May 10-12).
The Canes will host a fall game against FAUon Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. To view Miami's 2019 schedule, click HERE.
The Hurricanes bring back All-ACC right-handed pitcher Evan McKendry and 2018 Freshmen All-Americans Freddy Zamora, Daniel Federman and Isaac Quiñones. Miami's incoming recruiting class has been ranked in the top 10 by both Baseball Americaand D1Baseball.com.
Just realized something with the struggling Run Offense
Going back to Spring practice, when reporters ask Mork about his run offense his reply was something like "I'm concentrating more on the passing game" since passing offense takes more time to perfect" something close to that. Mork basically neglected the run game during the spring

Don't forget about the Louisville game, as one of the best.

Ahhh the Brock Berlin UF game. We were kinda hard on Brock because he was after Kenny D. But he was light years better than Wright, Freeman, Harris, Morris and the Trick or Treater. Broke up with my BF after that game haha - he was a Gator fan and thought it was funny to call me during the game screaming; however, when the tide turned and we won he would not answer his phone. Meh. Only gator I ever dated.

Great story CG, I was watching with my cousin (Gator) and after 3rd quarter his wife said I sure am glad the Gators won to which I said,"The Canes always come back in the 4th".
Brock Berlin doing the Gator Chomp was soooo sweeet!

I wonder what the NCAA will do now that the NBA will offer the elite players a way to grow for a year and get paid.
Do they nothing and see how it plays out or take the initiative and let the players get paid?
If players can get paid they would stay in college. I know a few NBA guys and they told me over the years that college was more fun than being a pro, but money talks.
Posted by: HillviewCane | October 19, 2018 at 04:27 PM
The dream is the show. Very few 17 year olds are going to have the perspective to do anything other than grab the money now. Particularly, if playing against NBA developmentals improves your game faster than college. I would probably grab the cash too. You're always an injury away from career over.
Nonetheless, it should make the college game a lot more interesting.

They should just pay the players in college off an NBA contract and the NCAA could profit share with the NBA.

From my "insider" sources everybody tells me that it is not on Perry it is on the head coach, the OC and the QB coach.

This thread epitomizes how hard it is to figure out what’s happening in Coral Gables.
Guy dissects a play run by Lincoln Riley he says is a how a good OC gets favorable matchups.
Down the page a guy posts a highlight of Kaaya running the seams exact play two years ago for a touchdown.
Starting to wonder more and more if Perry hasn’t, can’t or won’t learn enough of the playbook to make us an effective offense.

I saw that as well.
It made me wonder why we don’t see that concept with Malik and a more favorable route. But Malik has hit passes like the one always threw so maybe you don’t have to change the routes.
Even if he panics and runs it’s a good way to get him some room to get yardage with his legs.
These are the plays that make me wonder about early onset Alzheimer’s or dementia in the offensive coaches room.

Back to the Future
or how were gold to rack up a few NCs in no time.
A post on Canespace from 10 years ago today
"In a year like this, yes, there's talk about winning the ACC because we're not at NC levels yet.
But by 2010 there won't be any talk of winning the ACC. Seriously, just think about how dominant this offense and defense will be in 2 years. There will be some tough games here and there...VT, FSU maybe UNC, although Butch's best players are all seniors and juniors, maybe some random year for UVA or NCST or something but really, the focus will be dominating every game on the road to a NC.
That's how I see it at least."

Stupid announcer cliches that are outright lies.
Hes deceptively quick
No he is exaclty as fast as he is.
They are better than their record indicates
Their record states exactly how many games they won or lost
He gives 110 percent
Really?
He runs downhill.
Maybe if hes playing at home at West Virginia but I doubt it
He has all day to throw it.
Not if the grounds crew has anything to do with it.
They have their backs against the wall.
They are out of bounds.
He made a circus catch.
Everybody here has been to the circus.
Nobody here has seen a wide receiver catch a knife, hatchet, or a bowling pin.
I won't go into the even more annoying Captain Obvious cliches like
The pass was very catchable
Thats a costly turnover
They laid him out on that hit.
They have to take care of the football

We are perfect candidates, to run the flexbone. We don't to worry about throwing the ball no more than 10 to 12 times a game, so our pitiful offensive line won't be asked to pass block much. Now we can get Linegard more involved. We just need to recruit more RB's and less Wr.

What pains me most is that only IF we would have beaten lowly Virginia we would actually be in the National conversation for the rest of the season and very possibly, if we kept winning, a top 10 team with an ACC title shot and a possible playoff dream. Instead we just keep living this nightmare.

UVA's win over Miami was their FIRST win over a ranked team in over four years. IJS
Posted by: SOUP | October 20, 2018 at 12:17 PM
Ricky Brumfield joined the Virginia staff in January of 2018 as the program's special teams coordinator. The 2018 season will be Brumfield's 18th as a collegiate coach.
Brumfield comes to UVA after spending the past two seasons at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he was the Roadrunners' special teams coordinator and coached the team's tight ends.
In 2016, his first season with the Roadrunners, Brumfield helped guide the team to six wins and the program's first-ever bowl game, the 2016 Gildan New Mexico Bowl. His special teams set several school records, including season marks for touchbacks (27), points (79), extra points (43) and punting average (42.0).
This season, Brumfield saw freshman placekicker Jared Sackett earn freshman All-America honors from USA Today. Sackett made a UTSA school-record 19 field goals on 22 attempts. He also set the school mark with 80 points. Sackett was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award presented to the nation's top place kicker.
UTSA punter Yannis Routsas was a semifinalist for the 2017 Ray Guy Award presented to the nation's top punter. UTSA was one of just three schools in 2017 to have both its placekicker and punter as semifinalists for those two national awards.
During the 2017 season, the Roadrunners went 6-5 with four of those losses coming by a total of 17 points. In the current NCAA FBS football statistics, UTSA ranks No. 6 in the nation in punt return defense. This season the Roadrunners allowed just eight punt returns for a total of 23 yards (2.88 ypr.). UTSA was No. 39 in the nation in kickoff defense by allowing 19.61 yards per return.
His Roadrunner special teams forced five fumbles during the 2016 season and two in 2017.
Brumfield came to UTSA from Western Kentucky, where he spent three seasons as special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He helped the Hilltoppers to a combined 28 victories, including a pair of bowl wins, during his tenure.
In 2015, WKU won the Conference USA title and capped off a 12-2 season with a 45-35 victory against USF in the Miami Beach Bowl, while finishing the season with a No. 24 final ranking. Garrett Schwettman, the school's career record holder for points, extra points and field goals, earned first-team all-conference honors, while kick returner Kylen Towner made the second team and cornerback Prince Charles Iworah and long snapper Nolan Dowling were named honorable mention.
In his first two seasons with the Hilltoppers, the defense and special teams were among the conference's best in nearly every major statistical category. He tutored five all-conference performers, including cornerbacks Wonderful Terry and Cam Thomas, who played for the NFL's Buffalo Bills in 2015.

BC is an important game for CMR tenure he needs a win.
1. He chose to start Malik, a loss will create more problems within the team, alumni, fan base, and recruits.
2.He can’t afford another ACC loss or we will not win the Coastal
3. The team needs a win

Don't give a crap what plays get called for him, that kid can make something out of nothing every time he touches the ball.
Throws an beautifully accurate ball when he has time, takes off, makes people miss and never takes a hit when plays break down.
That kid is an amazing, amazing talent.

All these facts, Soup! It hurts reading how that performance in the UVA game knocked the Canes out of the polls and the national conversation, and how inept the Canes offense is in scoring 13 points against UVA.
The Canes must turn this around and run the table. I am not optimistic about Rosier at QB1, but I will just have to settle for another season of mediocre QB play and hope for the best

That's what so frustrating. Miami regressed to 20 points a game in 2006 because Larry Coker literally didn't have the offensive personnel to run a passing offense. Butch Davis' 45 man 1997 squad had more depth on offense than Coker.
Fast forward to 2018, and we have four and five star players throughout the offense. Yet we cannot manage more than Run, Run, Pass, Punt?
