The Miami Hurricanes know they need to do better.
No one wearing orange and green is shying away from the disappointing loss at Virginia. Instead, the Canes have come back hungry to improve on their deficiencies in advance of the second half of the season.
"This week has been a better week for the offense, as a whole," quarterback Malik Rosier said. "I think the big thing that we learned was that we need to come out and execute every play. Two weeks ago, we didn't have a good practice, but the last two weeks the ones, twos and even the threes have been dominating."
The improvement in practice has Miami's offense feeling good after a tough showing at Virginia. The Hurricanes have been much more consistent in practice and wide receiver Mike Harley believes that will translate to success on Friday.
"Just being consistent on a daily basis, we dominated the week so far," Harley said. "Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays, no days off. We look good. I feel like we are going to have a great game this week."
Freshman tight end Brevin Jordan is impressed with the reinvigorated Canes' attack and how it has responded to adversity since falling at UVA.
"That loss to Virginia, it kind of fell on our shoulders," Jordan said. "The defense held them to less than 200 yards, three turnovers, and the offense didn't show up, we didn't come to perform. In that week overall, we didn't have the best week of practice. We had to stop in the middle and do up-downs, so this week we came out and we did pretty good."
Friday will serve as Boston College's Red Bandana Game honoring Welles Crowther, who is remembered for his heroics during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The Canes expect a highly motivated Eagles team, as well as a raucous crowd in the stands, when they team the field at Alumni Stadium.
"I know since they've been doing this game, they haven't lost," Rosier said. "For them, it's almost a pride thing and as it is, it's hard to go in someone else's home and beat them and then you add this game where it's a very emotional game for them so they're going to come out fired up. We have to be able to execute."
The Canes and Eagles will be playing in frigid temperatures on Friday night, as forecasts indicate that it will be in the upper-30s when the game kicks off. But Rosier and the Hurricanes are not concerned with the weather. They have the necessary equipment and mindset to succeed at Boston College.
"For me, I don't think cold is the biggest issue," Rosier said. "I've played in a little bit of cold weather. The biggest issue sometimes is when you're up in northern areas, it's dry air and the ball gets slick. Sometimes you'll see quarterbacks licking their fingers because we're just trying to get moisture and trying to get that grip on the ball. Coach Richt has done a great job. We're going to be wearing tights, I'll have hand warmers, the heated benches, so we have no excuses why cold will be a factor. That's not even an excuse."
Rosier will be under center for the Hurricanes and the fifth-year senior brings experience and maturity to Miami's offense. Senior Tyree St. Louis is confident Rosier will excel at leading the Canes' offense.
"This is his fifth year here, it's my fourth year playing with him and second year as a starter, so just the most experience he has," St. Louis said. "He has pretty good leadership, as all the other quarterbacks do, he is a bit different because he has been here, he knows all the guys, he knows all the calls, he knows everything."
"The offense flows a little bit better, just because of the experience that he has," St. Louis said. "Whether it be making the calls, or getting things lined up, or hitting certain targets, things flow a little easier."
The Herb sees allot of jibber jabbering about days gone by. Let history lie. We as a blog need to get over what we did years ago.
That was then, this is now.
The Herb is sick of our predicament. I'm sick of the runs up the middle. I'm sick of the QB's inaccuracies. I'm sick of the shanked punts. I'm sick of the vanilla play calling. I'm sick of struggling against teams that should'nt be on the field with us. I'm sick of the same. I'm tired of talking about it.

How do we stop them from pushing our OL 5 yards into the backfield and knocking over our RBs & QB? No tackling necessary

It's like coordinators can't remember to play the 5-2 front to stop the high school offense anymore because they just have to die by a thousand rush yards with two safeties on the field just in case they try and throw with a lead which they will never do until the fourth quarter or something . . .
No team has won three straight in blackhole VA since the 1992 Miami Hurricanes until tonight by the way, good for the yellow bees. Almost 30 years later and the chokies are still a third tier trash football program at best just like they always have been since that day, lying about selling every seat out when there were empties in sight everywhere on both upper corners on the hard camera side from kickoff until they left in droves early with plenty of time on the clock in the third quarter. Some things never change!

Do you think SEC bags are actually a big deal or an excuse fans make because their team is losing? Im really starting to believe bags are a very, very big deal.
P.S. Neal, Bogle, Stevenson & Dent are all going SEC, hmm...
Seems to me if you hold out long enough, thats when the bags come.

It must be a typepad thing. I didn't change, ban or do anything?
Posted by: SOUP | October 26, 2018 at 08:41 AM
It's definitely a typepad thing as the cloudflare page two days ago probably signified they changed their clients to a secured page, so now your urls are all httpS (for Secure, instead of regular http). Any credentials under the old unsecured page layers probably don't work as they time credentials for authorization out to sign in under the secure page layers that's now displaying typepad's blobs, so you probably want to open a support ticket with them to figure out how to get the logins to register on your pages again.
Regardless of that boring blob master crap, most likely this is a one score game either way but on the road you've got to think BC should be a favorite by the thinnest of one point margins or so regardless of who's the RB of significance for them this game. So special teams will make or break who wins, yeah, I know, Todd Hartley can't wait to give up the third loss on the year either already, he's just that bad as a corch.

I dont see our offense putting up 30 plus points on any power 5 team.
I think our defense holds them to 17 and Richt holds our offense to 20
If it comes down to a field goal forget it

The Canes are a -3.5 point favorite with A.J. Dilon in the lineup. It appears that CMR is suggesting playing Rosier and maybe Perry as well. We will see. I am not a big fan of the way the QB situation has been handled, but I will have to trust CMR on this one - I have no choice.
More importantly, I am a Hurricanes fan, so I will be pulling for Rosier and the Canes tonight to pull out the victory.
It should be an easy win, and I like Soup's prediction, 34-13. That sounds about right.
Every game from here on out is a MUST WIN for the Canes, if they want to get to the ACC Championship Game.
A win will also help curb some of the lost momentum on the recruiting trail. Depending on what happens in Tallahassee and Jacksonville on Saturday, the Canes need to stave off the momentum of the ins-state competition as well.
A lot is riding on this game.

Such bliss since I stayed away after Virginia defeat. Didn’t even watch any football. Didn’t go to any site. It must have been quiet a blood letting. App state is no. 25! App state? And one mistake the drop us to the bottom of the class. 2 mistakes, we r in the land of the dead. Wow! Offense killed us that game. But I don’t think malik is the answer. Him and kayaa have a thing for over throwing the ball high.

Africane App State got drummed last night, so their taste of the light is now gone! So did VT as well.

Here’s to hoping the Defense lets the Awfense swing the Smiting Stick a few times tonight instead of keeping all the smiting to themselves...
Posted by: DallasTX Cane | October 26, 2018 at 02:53 PM
I do like Malik, good kid just a guy in a position that requires more skill. The problem is the OL and QB; and their coaches. Vanilla not dynamic, imaginative, or on the page with new concepts to attack.
The defense is pretty good; coverage could be better as at times it is suspect. The D cannot be on the field forever they get tired after so long. I see the whole problem as the O...and ultimately CMR. He is a nice man; I just do not see him as leading us to where we want to go. He is a good recruiter, but with debacles like UVA and LSU, the great kids choosing to go to the big boys aint coming here.
Hard to say about tonight; I never pick em...I just watch them and hope for the best; all one can do.
CGNCPa like your take on Perry; get your head into film and the playbook you will be better off.
See your good buddy AlPa (LOL) suing the school...what an idiot.
I see the coaching chain has not changed so much as we think...same old approach to the game..Lacking!
Clappy Onion, AlPa, now CMRPa...and the beat goes on!
Hope we will play well tonight we wuill see.
Hope you all are well lets win one tonight!

Once again that Arseclown Shawn Eischorst is the worst AD in University of Miami History he was the dumbarse to give Golden a 4 year extension after year 1 when we went 6-6 in 2011 in Late November 2011 after we lost to BC at Home 24-17 SMH. I literally have extremely high levels of bad feelings towards that guy.

CGNC AlPa should pay the fans IE Canespace fans back with the heartaches he gave us.
I think he was worse than Clappy and Onion. Clappy proved he could manage talent as an OC...average as HC. Randy was a good DC, not HC.
AlPa was not really good at coaching period...Temple was a small school....UM is er...was a big time program up until 2003 or so...then we fell off the cliff.
AlPa like CMR in that he is a nice guy....CMR has won at a higher level...more qualified than the others....but we still cannot compete with the elite teams...or great the great players. Sure we have won more; but are we really any better.
Surely LSU made us look bad...UVA did too.
Greatness takes time, but are we ready to line up with Bama, Clemson, OK, Texas, WVU, LSU again, GA The Bucks..even TAMU? Defensively we may be....with Bama exception...but our O is like the bombs sent from S FLA by that nut...just another Dud! no explosion! CMR has no concept of Dynamic O, nor does his son.
Good people horrible Offensive minds...but lets win tonight...cold maybe damp...but they got to play in it too!
No excuses for not winning....got to execute!
Posted by: VA Cane | October 26, 2018 at 05:57 PM
I was looking at our roster; 6 place kickers listed!!
2 punters listed....both are bad real bad!
I have never seen us so bad in the kicking game....and the kick coverage game ever!
Thomas is very good and even DJ has done well when he was in there....but our kick and punt coverage, kicking FG XP are ....a mystery....poor and there is no excuse!
Lets hope for better!
