The University of Miami women's tennis team opened play Friday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
The Hurricanes posted a 5-2 record, including a 3-2 mark in singles play, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech.
"[Yuna] Ito played a solid first-round match today against FSU. She fought hard and made some changes midway through the match that had a positive effect on the outcome," Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. "[Ana] Madcur is playing outstanding tennis. She's thinking for herself in big moments and keeping an open mind deep into points."
Miami opened the day with a pair of narrow victories in the opening round of doubles play. Juniors Ito and Estela Perez-Somarriba eked past USF's Vanja Klaric and Nicole Dzenga, 8-7 (7-4).
Meanwhile, Madcur, a senior, and freshman Lucia Marzal Martinez defeated UCF's duo of Sara Culbertson, a former Miami player, and Valentina Martin, 8-6.
The Hurricanes won two of their three first-round singles matchups, including Ito notching a victory in her first-career contest against a ranked foe at the Division I level.
Facing No. 55 Ana Oparenovic of Florida State, the tournament's third seed, Ito dropped the first set before rebounding for a comeback triumph, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Madcur eased past Georgia State's Arielle Nealy, 6-2, 6-1, to open her tournament singles ledger. Additionally, Marzal Martinez, seeded No. 9-16, fell to Florida State's Julia Mikulski, 5-7, 3-6.
Miami split its two second-round main draw matches, with Madcur posting a stellar 6-4, 6-3 victory over UCF's Domenika Turkovic, seeded No. 9-16. Ito dropped her outing against Rafaela Gomez of North Florida, 6-3, 1-6, 1-6.
"Tomorrow is a new day and we're looking [forward] to moving through new challenges," Yaroshuk-Tews said."
Here is a another question for you:
1. If you asked Mark Richt when he was hired:
"Coach midway through your third season can you see your team scoring 13 points and losing to an un-ranked Virginia team that your University had out-recruited by a mile over the last several years?"
2. If you asked UM fans when Mark Richt was hired:
"If Mark Richt loses to an un-ranked Virginia team in the middle of year three after scoring only 13 points will you be happy?"
We ALL know the answers to these questions. Well, all of us except Go Canes that is?

This is a joke right? I haven't been critical of CMR, the offense and his play calling?

I also find it pretty damn funny that you'd likely be THRILLED if we hired Kendal Briles, a guy who if not for a horrible scandal would still be with the only coach he ever worked for...his dad.

Go Canes... yes, it is a JOKE!

Look away Herbie,
The situation with 4* DT Ingraham is trending Bama. 2 days before his announcement. This is not good. We need to close this kid. NEED.

"WE" the fans don't need to do anything.
The coaches at Miami need to recruit the best players available. It is not OUR job to recruit. SolarCane will be so proud of me.

Richt: Give it to Homer again

Wouldn't surprise me a bit, if we lose another stud but hey we can always go back to New York and find us a 3 star project.
Nah, Ingraham ain't going to Bama, I just can't except that.

You don't get it... just cuz you make one negative comment about the playcalling doesn't change the fact that you love CMR and still believe in him like a homer. You make one negative comment then you come right behind it blaming the players and posting irrelevant crap about other teams and players. So really you only make negative comments so that you can pretend not to be a homer like you was for Golden.

Got to say this, Brown and Richt JR. Being young and of sound mind have to be telling Mark that this stuff he's cling ain't working, especially his son. I know they got to be having some arguments over this stuff. I can hear it now, Mark telling Jr, "when u get to be a head coach u can do things the way u want, but while I'm the boss u will obey my wishes and there is no debating that. Sounds like something we've all heard before.

Patrick Mahomes was rated by Rivals.com as a three-star football recruit and was ranked as the 12th best dual-threat quarterback in his 2014 class at Texas Tech University.
DeShaun Watson was #1, Will Grier was #2 and Theon HARRIS was #3, Deshone Keizer was #9. Brad Kaaya was the #8 pro style QB, and Mason Rudolph was #9 pro style QB.
By the way, Baker Mayfield was a three star QB with only three offers in 2013

The ONLY thing I really care about in the NFL is if Miami players are making Miami look good.

It looks like they already have 21 kids committed? Damn, after last year they said f-it, if you want in you have to commit early and sign in December.
They are literally going to have zero spots open on NSD.

Sit on the bench for two years and wear a NC ring you never set foot on the field to earn, or go to a school you will start as a freshman and cash in on all those practice hours you put in.
Times have changed and more and more kids seem content to get the prize rather than enjoy the journey.

Business decision. They have Kul, best DL developer in the country. They have an outstanding D year in and out. They have huge crowds at almost every game. They win, a lot. I dont understand how you can think Bama is the easy path. All these kids trying to make it to the NFL are going to have to bust their @sses to get to that level. If anything, he's showing he's willing to be patient, willing to work his way through a loaded roster to get where he wants to be.

BC is a home dog and I saw them at +3.5 yesterday so the money piled on in on the home team underdog and we'll see what happens.

whats really funny to me is how all these supposed insiders Miami has, the guys that make you pay for their articles, get this ish sooo wrong. They had BI coming for a few months, then with 2 days left they look like total fakes.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 22, 2018 at 12:17 PM
Lol, 2 days ago BI was 85% Miami, today only 38%. This is what happens when you hire JAG coaches. You lose games you shouldnt and croots you shouldnt.

The Canes lost more than the game in Charlottesville. Not only are Alabama, Clemson and other top ten teams looking to come down here and pick off high-level Florida recruits, but Florida and FSU are starting to play better.
CMR has been in Coral Gables for three years.
High-level Recruits are now looking more at CMR's performance on the field, not just promises on the trail. It's hard to combat negative recruiting when your competitors are outperforming you consistently.
If CMR wants to continue to build this program, he needs to attract high-level recruits by showing them that they can win championships and get into the NFL.
That said, I hope we can get Igraham, but I am not confident of him and others on our Board.
