The University of Miami women's tennis team opened play Friday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
The Hurricanes posted a 5-2 record, including a 3-2 mark in singles play, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech.
"[Yuna] Ito played a solid first-round match today against FSU. She fought hard and made some changes midway through the match that had a positive effect on the outcome," Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. "[Ana] Madcur is playing outstanding tennis. She's thinking for herself in big moments and keeping an open mind deep into points."
Miami opened the day with a pair of narrow victories in the opening round of doubles play. Juniors Ito and Estela Perez-Somarriba eked past USF's Vanja Klaric and Nicole Dzenga, 8-7 (7-4).
Meanwhile, Madcur, a senior, and freshman Lucia Marzal Martinez defeated UCF's duo of Sara Culbertson, a former Miami player, and Valentina Martin, 8-6.
The Hurricanes won two of their three first-round singles matchups, including Ito notching a victory in her first-career contest against a ranked foe at the Division I level.
Facing No. 55 Ana Oparenovic of Florida State, the tournament's third seed, Ito dropped the first set before rebounding for a comeback triumph, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Madcur eased past Georgia State's Arielle Nealy, 6-2, 6-1, to open her tournament singles ledger. Additionally, Marzal Martinez, seeded No. 9-16, fell to Florida State's Julia Mikulski, 5-7, 3-6.
Miami split its two second-round main draw matches, with Madcur posting a stellar 6-4, 6-3 victory over UCF's Domenika Turkovic, seeded No. 9-16. Ito dropped her outing against Rafaela Gomez of North Florida, 6-3, 1-6, 1-6.
"Tomorrow is a new day and we're looking [forward] to moving through new challenges," Yaroshuk-Tews said."

Go - you still don’t get it. Ohio State is a power house that will lose sometimes but always plays to try to crush their opponents- always fun to watch
The total opposite of our head coach! Richt makes offense terribly offensive to watch!

All u have to do is watch Richt at his post game press conference last week and U can see why, we are sleep walking on offense. The dude shows no emotion. No big deal that we sucked, no finger pointing, no getting upset, just emotionaless.
How can the players get up for a game, if u have a coach is stoic. Nick Saban wins by forty and he's not pleased with the tackling in the secondary.

This week marks three years since GD's slurp job failed to buy fatso another full year of failures, so to commemorate it's time to go back and enjoy some of this sid-tard's stupidest posts in the history of the blob, for instance;
https://canespace.typepad.com/canespace/2015/09/riding-the-storm-out.html#comments
"Why did someone have to shock jock his ass?
Because he didn't know this is a make or break year for him? Or did big fat dOnut, who didn't play football btw (we all know by now this criteria is a must to know anything), knows more about football than our coach?
One is 3-1 against GT, the other is an overweight, pony tail wearing radio host.
I'll take my chances with the former.

Never even got that fatso reach around before he was dismissed did you GD? Too bad you didn't perish out of shame trying to use a college program running a high school offense as your measuring bar on the ground from that failure all around . . .

A different poster in the same thread said that was the 2nd source that he has heard that from. At the end of the thread, the same poster who started it, said he just got another call from yet another reliable source confirming the Same thing. Just passing information dudes. I guess Richt thought he was saving us some dough by naming himself O.C. We all know how that has turned out. The thing that could happen to this program, is for it to hire a Real OC, dump Searles, who can't coach water, get a special teams coach and relieve his son of whatever duties he has right now, Oh a so called QB coach and we also need one of those, that's if we have any QB's left, to take snaps next year.

Posted by: solarcane | October 21, 2018 at 02:23 PM
Yes... TOO many "ifs" over the years... (The door opens, and WE back out, instead of stepping in.)
Sad, because CMR STILL doesn't seem to "get" that he's got a defense that every team in the nation would DIE for, and yet his insists on driving our Ferrari offense at about 40MPH in the I-95 fast lane! He JUST doesn't see it, or he DOES see it, and is too stubborn to find a REAL driver to step on the accelerator!
Posted by: roachcane77 | October 21, 2018 at 06:52 PM
Solar and Go,
Although I don’t think CMR will bring in an OC at this point in the middle of the season, it is fun to talk and dream about.
IMHO, we are stuck with CMR, JR and these QBs. They will either figure it out or struggle on offense. If they don’t figure it out this season, we might see some changes on the offensive coaching staff in the offseason.

I took riducule for suggesting Richt could retire unexpectedly a few seasons ago.
I don’t think it is highly likely, but dude be looking tired as hell.
All these years in the grinder take a toll.
But he still may have a lot to prove in his mind. However his faith may allow him to see the “bigger picture” like Soup mentioned last year.
Nothing would surprise me at this point.
I think the staff you suggested would do well, but Diaz would be a rookie hc. There would be hiccups.
I wonder who would be dc and call that side of the ball under him..

Everyone on the Awfensive side of the ball should be welcoming a new set eyes. Many of the coaches are younger, Brown, Hartley, Jon. They know the O isnt working and the wheels are just spinning out. If Brown wants to become a real OC or a HC one day, he should welcome taking a step back, same for Hartley. And if Mark is serious about his son becoming an OC one day, then he needs to swallow his pride and bring in help. Thats just the greedy side of things, not the right side of things, which means putting The U first, ahead of your vanity and ego. Imagine thinking you know how to OC after this year... hire an OC Richt, put The U 1st.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 21, 2018 at 09:31 PM
He does see it.
When he came here he said calling plays again refreshed and invigorated him.
Every person on this blog can call plays and be invigorated.
Richt thought his hometown boy, and God fearing humble personality was all he was going to need to hang here.
He should have donated a million and signed up as Chaplin in waiting.
He knows, that we know, he knows time is tight.

Richt is the facility enriching version of Butch Davis.
Richt has done great in helping update the U, sell tickets, give the program a healthy image.
The next guy will inherit a good place to coach.
Unfortunately Cleveland isn't going to call anytime soon.
Posted by: solarcane | October 21, 2018 at 09:49 PM
I am not SURE that he sees it.
I think he is somewhat protected or insulated (read: blinded) from the truth simply because he wants it to be the way he thinks it SHOULD be rather than the way it actually is.
Has Richt come out and said anything that indicates that he "gets it"? I have not seen it if so. Here is what I do know:
1. Hiring your son, even IF he is qualified for the job, is not the decision of a wise man with extensive experience in coaching.
2. Hiring your son, who is in fact unqualified and is failing, and hanging on to him after this season is in effect signing your pink slip.
3. I am sure Thomas Brown is a nice guy as is Ron Dugans. Neither are qualified to have the term "Offensive Coordinator" at a school like Miami next to their names either by title or function.
4. The former recruiting coordinator at Georgia and current "Special Teams" coach at Miami, Todd Hartley, may in fact be a great recruiter but a special teams coach he is not just based on PERFORMANCE alone, no opinions needed.
Either Mork, ooops I mean Mark, gets this right before next season or the tide will turn against him as it has against so many others. All of the excitement and enthusiasm will be lost due to his inaction and the next 2-3 years will be more misery before the plug is pulled.
We have seen this movie before and the sequel or re-runs are nothing any of us ever want to see again. The delicious hot buttery popcorn will eventually go cold, dry and stale and the ending credits will read the same.

Here is a another question for you:
1. If you asked Mark Richt when he was hired:
"Coach midway through your third season can you see your team scoring 13 points and losing to an un-ranked Virginia team that your University had out-recruited by a mile over the last several years?"
2. If you asked UM fans when Mark Richt was hired:
"If Mark Richt loses to an un-ranked Virginia team in the middle of year three after scoring only 13 points will you be happy?"
We ALL know the answers to these questions. Well, all of us except Go Canes that is?

You don't get it... just cuz you make one negative comment about the playcalling doesn't change the fact that you love CMR and still believe in him like a homer. You make one negative comment then you come right behind it blaming the players and posting irrelevant crap about other teams and players. So really you only make negative comments so that you can pretend not to be a homer like you was for Golden.

Got to say this, Brown and Richt JR. Being young and of sound mind have to be telling Mark that this stuff he's cling ain't working, especially his son. I know they got to be having some arguments over this stuff. I can hear it now, Mark telling Jr, "when u get to be a head coach u can do things the way u want, but while I'm the boss u will obey my wishes and there is no debating that. Sounds like something we've all heard before.

DeShaun Watson was #1, Will Grier was #2 and Theon HARRIS was #3, Deshone Keizer was #9. Brad Kaaya was the #8 pro style QB, and Mason Rudolph was #9 pro style QB.

Times have changed and more and more kids seem content to get the prize rather than enjoy the journey.

I dont understand how you can think Bama is the easy path. All these kids trying to make it to the NFL are going to have to bust their @sses to get to that level. No.
- (minus) 2.5 points is a favorite.
BC is a home dog and I saw them at +3.5 yesterday so the money piled on in on the home team underdog and we'll see what happens.

whats really funny to me is how all these supposed insiders Miami has, the guys that make you pay for their articles, get this ish sooo wrong. They had BI coming for a few months, then with 2 days left they look like total fakes.

Lol, 2 days ago BI was 85% Miami, today only 38%. This is what happens when you hire JAG coaches. You lose games you shouldnt and croots you shouldnt.

Barry: Richt says he's aware of the video of Perry with a ton of money in his lap. "It's been addressed. It was not very mature obviously. He didn't break any NCAA rules. The image is not good."

The Canes lost more than the game in Charlottesville. Not only are Alabama, Clemson and other top ten teams looking to come down here and pick off high-level Florida recruits, but Florida and FSU are starting to play better.
CMR has been in Coral Gables for three years.
High-level Recruits are now looking more at CMR's performance on the field, not just promises on the trail. It's hard to combat negative recruiting when your competitors are outperforming you consistently.
If CMR wants to continue to build this program, he needs to attract high-level recruits by showing them that they can win championships and get into the NFL.
That said, I hope we can get Igraham, but I am not confident of him and others on our Board.

Not talking about this kid in particular just overall. It seems like at this point it feels like Bama picks you, not the other way around.
Saban has that program rolling at a never been seen before level.
