NEW BLOG IS UP!

Killerbeez

This is the crazy thing, we go 10-3 last year and everyone was loving it...maybe not Rosier, but was loving the wins. Now it's fire this guy and that guy. My question is did you say fire anyone when we were 10-3? Same staff except DL coach.

Go Canes!!

For those who love Mike Leach, an interesting quote:

https://twitter.com/a_jude/status/1066205773561126913?s=12

Go Canes!!

In Dallas with the family visiting close friends. Going with my buddy and his son to the Texas Tech-Baylor game today at Jerry’s World.

Watching those offenses is going to be depressing.

Go Canes!!

VA Cane

Myself, as long as Richt calls plays and stays in this antiquated offense there ain't much hope.

well put; I think this is reality. As long as we let The BOT and AD make these choices, we will continue the Clappy, Onion, AlPa and CMR chain of mediocrity...which is totally unacceptable.
There are other coaches out there that can get the job done, make UM a player....powers that be do not want to pay up or sign someone outside of their realm that can make that difference.
Pressure has to mount from the people...it is already mounting....losing, kids deciding not to come, kids quitting the program, fans rumbling, attendance has to be down....

Turning and turning in the widening gyre,
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

W B Yeats The Second Coming

Its happening now....and to wait longer only makes the gap wider and worse.
Cannot see this continuing and changing for the better....time to go.....

I hope we win today, and if its on I will watch some of it...but it pales when you can watch Bama Auburn OSU MI....they are just better games to watch if you love the sport...JMO

Old Skool

Even if the Canes win out the rest of the year, I think a memorial to the season could be in order --a remembrance of vast promise and talent squandered by mistakes, pride, and poor leadership then throw dirt on it or give it a Viking burial. Hopefully we'll learn something and act on it rather than keeping charging at tanks with cavalry.

I wouldn't be surprised if JT4 is playing somewhere next year

Herbieibis

Windy,
U got faith, I'll say that. Myself, as long as Richt calls plays and stays in this antiquated offense there ain't much hope. Now we may win tomorrow but that doesn't erase this piss poor season. We have no business losing to the likes of Virginia and we definitely have no business losing 4 in a row to those same kind of teams. Can anybody be beaten, sure. Good teams don't lose 4 in a row, they make adjustments. Our defense is a top 5 to 10 defense and not even they can over come out inept offense and poor punting.
To be honest, we had enough talent to go undefeated, with our schedule. There are 5 or 6 teams that we would definitely struggle against and may even get our lunch handed to us.
Also we sure as hell shouldn't be sitting at number 23 in recruiting. Our hopes are fading in that department. Richards, Bogel, Stephes and Haselwood are about it for the big names. We need OTackles bad and we end up with none at the early signing period.

BigWindyCane

By the way, Northwestern beat Central, 19-15. What a game! So many good teams playing each other, and I am not sure the best team advanced tonight or even last week. Football is a game where winners are determined on the field every week. You never know what can happen when two talented teams play each other in a meaningful game. So many variables.

I repped by Canes. Hopefully, the Canes can continue to recruit both schools successfully

BigWindyCane

Herb,
It’s a lot to ask, but another 38-14 game against Coastal Division Champion Pitt — like the Canes had in Blacksburg — will help recruiting tremendously on both sides of the ball. Although the Canes had a disappointing season, CMR can sell the promise for the future with a talented underclass capable of dominating the ACC.

I wish JT4 great in the future. I still think he made a horrible mistake, but sometimes when you have unhappy talented players, you can move forward with more success with addition by subtraction. Other talented freshmen will have a chance to show what they can do with his reps. Pope, Njoku, Hightower and WIGGINS need to step up and show what they can do

Herbieibis

The Herb knows this, we better make sum kind of an offensive statement tomorrow. Our offensive recruiting lived depend on it. Play and call plays like we did during that 4 game losing streak then it's on to flipping players that have verballed to the likes of South Florida and teams along those lines.
If u want to watch offense just watch the big 8 or 12 or whatever conference Oaklahoma is in.

His Majesty The Dude on High

If I were his HC, I'd wouldve asked JT to actually help out the staff. Help us plan, be a leader, get him involved in some of the coaching. That'd shut him up I promise.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: WWIN | November 23, 2018 at 06:32 PM

Still a dumb move by him. Now he's got to sit a year. Should have just sucked it up and bounced next year. He was already a starter at WR and KR/PR. I agree that MR's awefense has brewed discontent in the locker room and so MR is ultimately at fault, but its still a dumb move by JT4. If I were AD, I'd convince him to come back.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: WWIN | November 23, 2018 at 06:41 PM

We definitely in wait and see mode. We have to have the whole story, need the last game and the bowl to really know what we are all about. 😂😂😂

Posted by: AeroCane | November 23, 2018 at 06:01 PM

I dont think our attitude matters yet. Even the BoT member that was willing to speak to Barry Jackson said Richt is back next year. Clearly Richt feels the heat. I agree in general though, recruiting will take luck just to hang on, winning will take some luck also, 8-5 more than likely wont happen and we'll be looking for a new coach again in a year.

Herbieibis

Is this the type offense we've all been dreaming about. WVU and Oak are lighting up the sky. Just imagine our Dee with that type of offense.

mi@mic@ne

hopefully we get our bowl game in washington st with a snow storm..that will teach us that losing is not rewarded.

CoCane

Add in the predictability of the play calls also...

CoCane

The WR's get open plenty. It doesn't seem like it because they get missed so much. So many off target passes, late passes and drops combined are the reasons why QB's completion % aren't in the 65-70% range.

IraqiCane

Can you imagine if our receivers had the ability to get any kind of as open as either Oklahoma or West Virginia receivers do on a regular basis.

I'm REALLY curious as to what our team will look like tomorrow vs. Pitt.

roachcane77

Charlie Strong must have CMR calling his 3rd and 4th and short plays. They must be like 0 for 6 or something?
Not to mention kneeling on the ball with 27 seconds from near mid-field at the end of the first half.

I was pulling for USF to stop the undefeated streak. But, it's like watching CMR milk the energy out of OUR offense. No creativity... Sickening...

Have we hired Kingsbury yet... or in the words of my client, are we still in the "let's see how things play out" phase???

Possibly. Robert Edwards was able to come back from a catastrophic knee injury (three ligaments torn, the fourth shredded, and dislocated knee cap) and play several years of professional football. However it took him three years to make it back.

The Canes are now a much improved team since the Virginia game.

Canes need to close out the season against Pitt with a win and get ready for the bowl game. This will give the incoming recruits hope in the future of the Canes

Big windy - so we lost to Virginia, then we lost to Duke, BC and GT and beat a bad vt team - how does that make us ‘much improved’?
I’m sorry but I just don’t get the thinking by some of our bloggers (not to say they aren’t great people and wonderful Cane fans);
we need more people opposite this ‘positive attitude crap’ so change WILL happen! It must happen, and SOON, or we are nothing more than a very average middle of the road acc team!

Extrapolating “facts” based on rivalry games is uneven ground. We’ve all seen enough dumpster fire teams play lights out for that one game a year to know that 1 game don’t make a season. But U are still right... Canes underperformed this year and should’nt have lost to UVA.

Why would Vernon Carey Jr or any 5* come here? Players see that Dewan Hernandez is the ONLY one sitting even though the investigation proved there was no violation.

Posted by: CoCane | November 23, 2018 at 03:02 PM

Well, given that Coach L has gotten a few 5* players to come here previously it's not outside of the realm of possibility that a former UM player's son might sign with the Canes basketball team.

The "U" administration is the weakest link.

They're so worried about images and not being the old UM, they can't make the bo$$ decisions needed to dominate in this new era.

Don't hire the coach that evaluates and develops assistants and players at an all time great level.

Go get the coach that is a career underachiever and extend him like he just won the ACC. Right after he just lost 3 in a row.

Homesick? I guess I forgot what it's like to be 18, freshman, etc. I was never homesick. Flew home to Michigan only at Christmas, each year. Probably, because my parents sent me to camps in New England when I was 14. And, being an only child, I was raised at an early age to be mature and make solid decisions.
I pray for them every night and remember my dad saying, that you go to college to mature and become a well-rounded person. At age 14, he brought all the booze out and taught me how to drink. Never mix alcohol with any soda pop. You drink more and get drunk faster, hugging the toilet.

Happy late Thanksgiving.

The news on Thomas is disheartening.

Kid was an emotional wreck.

From what I can gather, it seems he was home sick. Combine that with being a volatile personality, looks like the relationship was doomed from the start.

I have been critical of the staff, but it is hard for me to blame them for this. Still it is not a good look letting talent like his walk out the door when there is so much turmoil regarding the team. Could be another hurdle for recruiting, which is not going well as it is.

Combined with no information, being released, wild speculation could lead to second guessing by recruits.

Everything seems so out of control with so many players, and it is ALL on the OFFENSIVE side.

If we don’t get it together in the off season, things could really spiral. Hoping for the best in these difficult times.

Hey WWIN. Please find us another Corn Elder in TN, please!

Herbieibis

Bigwindy,
The problem is when he makes a descision. Hazelwood and Peyton with what we have would be awesome. These decisions should be made, at least a week after Pitt.
Knowing Richt he'll wait until after the bowl game and more than likely mid January.

BigWindyCane

I will keep hoping WWIN,
Aside from Peyton, IMO, the Canes still need two more WRs in this class. Hazelwood and Dunmore would round out a great (not good) WR class. The Canes 2017 and 2018 classes are full of talent on offense. If both WR recruits see a solid QB and a new OC and OL coach coming, the Canes should have a good shot at attracting both.

Herbieibis

Dugan's may be s good recruiter but our WR's are not great route runners. How many times do u see us running free? How many times do we have great Separation from DB. It seems like every throw is contested. U get the right system in place, we will have guys running free.

BigWindyCane

By the way, IMHO, WR Jerimiah Peyton is going to be player for the Canes. I saw him at camps, and he was very good and very competitive. All the campers loved being on the field with him, and they call him “JP.” He loves to compete on each drill, and he gets open and adjusts to the ball well. I don’t think he is shy or will shrink from the big moments. Some people on the sideline of the camp said JP played basketball and football at Jacksonville fletcher. I am happy he is a Cane commit

WWIN

Windy... sorry to be the bearer of bad news but no offensive player worth having that's not already committed is coming here this year.

You are correct, Sir.

Posted by: nemo2002 | November 22, 2018 at 06:43 PM

Regardless of how JT4 feels, he should have stuck it out and finished the season. He didn’t help himself in the eyes of NFL scouts. I really like JT4, but I don’t think he has yet reached a point where he was in the top echelon of ACC WRs. Not every dynamic punt returner or slot receiver can be a #1 receiver.

For example, Ahmmon Richards was a #1 WR as a freshman, even though it took CMR and Kaaya more than half a season and a four game losing steak to figure it out and accept it as fact. CMR and Dugans tried to make Coley the #1 WR, but Richards was the WR who was getting separation, giving the QB a target, adjusting to the ball, securing the catches, and making play after play. Richards didn’t have to say, “throw me the ball!” Richards’ routes, separation and speed did the talking

We didn’t get Jerry Jeudy and Frank Ladson, but maybe Hazelwood will come. If he sees the Canes have a QB, RBs and maybe a new OC, then maybe he can come and play a major role.

Herbieibis

We we're lucky. What happened to the TE'S, could of happened to us s cb s couple of years ago. Went two years with 5 CB's and the same with WR's. Just what u get when u ignore certain positions in recruiting. U need to create at least 2 a year at most positions, with q
QB's, RB's and TE's being the exception.
The way we punt we need to bring in 2 a yr.
If Thomas played at Oak St. He would have 80 catches and 10 to 12 TD's.

“Absent from a string of practices, Thomas is held out of a game and must eventually win over his teammates, who voted whether he should keep his roster spot,” Dan Greene wrote for SI in 2017 ahead of the documentary’s premiere on Fox. “His coaches confide that their star is hard to reach, often hidden behind walls he’s built to protect himself from a harsh environment.”

Canes bb team are killing it

Go Canes!!

Overall I hink Thomas made a big mistake.

Even in Richt's crappy offensive scheme he likely ends up with at minimum 50+ catches for 7-800 yards and 7-8 TDs next season. Those would basically be the same numbers first rounders like Santana Moss and Phillip Dorsett put up their final seasons here. Couple those numbers with a combine where he blows them away with is 40 times and he's a first day draft pick.

Basically he was 13 months away from getting paid.

Instead he has to sit a year, have people question his maturity and whether or not he has a quitting problem going back to high school.

Hope it works out for him. Kid is incredibly talented.

Happpy Thanksgiving everyone.

"U watch other teams play and they are running wild and we look pedestrian. Richt has never understood how to consistently get the ball into his play makers hands. Harley has speed, Thomas has speed and Pope has speed. Harley has had one good game and Pope is no where to be found. From the offensive line to the Wr's to the Rb's, to the Qb.'s it's like watching a boring ass soap opera."

I told U weeks ago that if you watch an entire Saturday of college football and then watch Miami play it looks like a completely different sport. The game is not that hard but we make it look like we have never practiced or played before.

BigWindyCane

With the JT4 fallout and underclassmen complaining, IMO, there is a lot of pressure on CMR to win Saturday. The offense needs to show some improvements over last week. Receivers need to catch the ball. The goal for this game is no drops at home, and the offensive linemen need to know and execute their blocking assignments. Perry needs to be accurate and most importantly, Canes cannot commit turnovers.

With no scholarship tight ends available, the Canes offense should have more spread, with 10 and 20 personnel groupings. Dallas, Hightower, Langham, Wiggins and Cager need to step up, and Pope should get some targets as well. I like the WR screens, and I would like to see Pope and Dallas get some of those reverses, hitches and screens. After 4-5 years of playing college football, it’s time for Cager and Langham to start playing up to their size. It’s really getting embarrassing to see them bobble or drop passes thrown to them in the bread basket, or to see small DBs own them. Just Get separation and make the catch, like other tall ACC level receivers do.

I think it’s obvious now that Cam Davis should get a lot more carries. Boulware needs more reps on the offensive line. The Canes need to start playing their best players.
