A total of 11 Miami Hurricanes were among those recognized with all-conference recognition, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday.
Headlined by junior linebacker Shaq Quarterman's selection to the All-ACC First Team, six Hurricanes were named first-, second- or third-team All-ACC, while another five players earned All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition.
Junior running back Travis Homer, true freshman tight end Brevin Jordan, senior safety Jaquan Johnsonand redshirt senior defensive tackle Gerald Willis III were all named to the All-ACC Second Team, while sophomore cornerback Trajan Bandy was selected to the All-ACC Third Team.
Five more Hurricanes were among those who picked up All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition: senior offensive lineman Tyree St. Louis, junior defensive end Joe Jackson, junior linebacker Michael Pinckney, senior cornerback Michael Jackson, Sr., and senior safety Sheldrick Redwine.
The honor was the third of Quarterman's career, but first first-team recognition. Homer, Jackson, Sr., Johnson and Pinckney each picked up the second honors of their respective careers, while the other six players were honored for the first time. As much as I love seeing our guys make it in the League, this would be a great time to make a team statement and set a firm stake in the ground for Miami “coming (not being) back” - all defensive juniors come back for their senior season. Losing 3 all conf players from the D backfield is significant. Having a bunch of senior and junior leadership on the field will be important especially at the beginning of the season until the new guys gain experience.
I’ll never blame a guy for making the decision to leave...what’s best for U individually and your Family is #1. But think of how it would be to have all these guys back...

Dem was some very good times. Still got the shirts.
Got to wear one on the French Broad River last September. I must say it wasn't just the excitement of the Chattooga but also the yakkin and fishin on the mountain lake, the chillin with some beer as the sun set over the North Georgia foothills and sharing meals. Ms. Solar knows how to make some exquisite ones.

Agreed.
Larry Coker survives into 2007 if Sinorice Moss and Devin Hester stay for their senior years.
Al Golden gets to pair Duke Johnson with Lamar Miller in 2012, as well as a host of other players who went pro early. We probably get to 9-3.
We go to the ACC title game undefeated if Njoku returns in 2017.
The Plunder becomes a Jun Horde in 2018 if our juniors return....maybe allowing us to beat GA Tech and Virginia.
Posted by: TonyCane | November 30, 2018 at 07:48 AM
And we do not beat FSU in 2000 if Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss do not return for their senior years.

TonyCane,
Good points about seniors returning. We did have Jaquan and Mike Jack return this season, and the defense was the best it has been in nearly two decades. Willis should go high in the draft, and Tito has a good shot to make it in the league with the way that Simpson has developed him. You can really see a remarkable improvement in Tito's play over the last few games. Redwine will also get a shot at making a roster. Backup LB Mike Smith has a chance to make an NFL roster, but I would be surprised if he gets drafted. That is five seniors on the defense who can potentially be drafted in 2018.
On offense, I only see St. Louis and Gauthier as having a chance to get drafted, but I am not certain they will. Rosier will not get drafted, and Homer and Cager, who are draft eligible, should return.
Shaq and Joe Jackson are the only two juniors that concern me that they could go pro because both will get drafted.
Joe Jackson has played like a potential first round draft pick, and I think the the teams put in his tape, they will really like what they see. Both Joe Jackson and Shaq have had outstanding seasons.
Shaq has had his best season this year by far, and has had the best season for a Canes LB since Perryman left. As a matter of fact, I think Shaq is better than Perryman. I think Pinkney, who could be drafted, will benefit if he returns, and the Canes defense is different when he plays. McCloud isn't going pro because he will be lucky to be a starter given the outstanding play of Romeo Finley.
So, I agree that if our juniors return, the Canes will have an elite defense again because Shaq and Joe Jackson are key pieces.

I am concerned that everything I see on social media is suggesting that the offensive coaches are still recruiting. I don't see any plans to bring in an OC. I don't see how CMR can go another year without some big changes in offensive concepts, play design, principles, play-calling and teaching. The offense was horrible this season, and what is most suprising and concerning to me was that the offense clearly regressed.
If you look at Felipe Franks. That is a QB that really looked horrible until Dan Mullen arrived. Now, Franks is much improved, and he is playing better than I thought he could ever play. I have to attribute that to the coaching and player development under Mullen.
Perry looked horrible in the second half of the season, and appears to have regressed in some respects during the second half of the season. I really did not anticipate that happening, because usually, you expect to see remarkable progress in a freshman QB once they get more reps and get more comfortable. This, however, requires (among other things) proper coaching.
For whatever reason, Perry did not develop during the second half of the season, and it doesn't reflect well on the coaches (regardless of who is at fault). Simple reads, missed throws have not improved. This must change, and whether it is coaching and/or bringing in someone else, this recent QB play is an embarrassment. In this offense, the QB must be a playmaker, and the Canes didn't have it this season.
The WRs have also disappointed me. Running wrong or inadequate routes, not understanding the plays, drops, are just embarrassing. Even the blocking has been inconsistent. The Canes do not have that #1 WR right now, and I am still looking for that alpha dog to emerge. Maybe Payton, Hazelwood, TJ Jones and/or Dunmore can come in and provide some ability and leadership that Richards did when he was a freshman.
The running game has improved. The OL play has improved over the last two games, but it has been too inconsistent over the season. The emergence of Gaynor, Boulware and Scaithe has helped, but the group has underperformed this season. I like some of the run plays that they have installed over the last few games, especially out of the spread concepts, and I am encouraged by the play of the RBs. The future looks bright, but the playcalling needs to improve.
The failure to make changes on the offensive coaches seem to be hurting recruiting too. The Canes only have a few commits on offense, and they are losing more and more offensive recruits to other programs. I hope CMR has a plan for a better playcalling and offensive design.

Richt will do nothing until after the bowl game, if anything at all. Have a bowl game to prepare for and the early signing period is 3 weeks away. Cutting 2 to 3 coaches out will affect recruiting, even though having those side sacks hasn't helped very much.
We are pretty much relegated to going after prospects or teaches as I call them. If he cans someone, it would probably take 3 weeks to find someone else. Time is not on our side.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 30, 2018 at 12:34 PM
Once again, that should be reaches not teaches, dam this phone.
I don't seeing us going to a full time speed not with all the TE's he's recruiting plus all the ones we already have.
I think Richt is so engulfed in his faith, which there is nothing wrong with, I think he believes everything will always turn out fine. He is never going to get to high or too low but you have to be able to reflect and see when changes need to be made and that is something, to me, he isn't capable of. He will have to be made to make changes.

Thanks. Two games ago, I supported Soup's dream of winning the last two games and a bowl game to help create momentum going into the recruiting trail and next season. Not everyone was on board with that dream, but it seems to be coming true so far. But no matter how well things go to close out the season, big changes are needed on offense, with coaches and players.
I think the Canes have a championship defense. This Canes defense was the best defense since the national championship years in 2001 and 2002. This defense passed the eye test, and they also performed statistically. The defense played well enough to be 11-1 or 12-0.
The offense, on the other hand, played awful, and as has been posted here, should be 2-10 or 3-9 at best. The offense was 98th in the country, which is historically bad for Canes offenses over the last two decades. Even by CMR standards, this is a bad offense. I think a good OC can turn things around. With this defense, the offense just needs to be respectable. A couple more playmakers at QB and WR could change this entire offense with the right OC.

You have to see things from a junior's perspective,as far as going pro goes.
After seeing two first round multi million dollar careers end in a college game,I'm sure it weighs heavy on a kids mind.
Being able to set your family up for life doing what you love doesn't happen to many people.
Woo hoo take the money and run

Completely agree. Not saying what I’d do or wouldn’t do or what any individual should do. Just saying that we’ve experienced so many very good players leave early since the 00-02 era, many of which would have become great college players if they stayed, and we haven’t had many great college players since that era. From a fan-only perspective, it’d be awesome to have all those guys come back & dominate next season. I don’t blame any of them for choosing otherwise though.

DTXC
yea it is hard to see a defense like this one dismantled.
I'm sure if they felt the offense had a glimmer of a chance to score points once in awhile it would help persuade some to stay.
Like CoCane said get used to being trash.
We need a real coaching staff or we need to join a conference with a lot of small or private schools that don't have Touchdown Jesus in their backyard.

SQ55 isnt even in the same stratosphere as the kid from LSU. Perhaps in the way they read the game, but the LSU kid has a 1st round body, while 55 has always had a gut and his arms arent jacked. He should focus the entire offseason on trying to be 240 pounds of lean, shredded beef if he wants a 2nd round or higher grade. Joe Jack is ready. Thanks for your service enjoy your NFL millions big dog.

I think Jess Simpson is going to croot an elite haul at DE. 4*s Harvey & Williams are coming, plus I think he could wind up with 4*s Bogle & Isaac, perhaps Summerall also, though I doubt we get 5. Returning we have Patchan, Rousseau & Garvin, thats a pretty decent front line, the freshmen add depth, so I dont think we really need Joe back if Simpson does his job. DT were gonna have Ford, Bethel and Nesta, solid group, not dynamic like it was with GW9, but should still stop the run. Truth is that Bethel & Ford should have redshirted but Kul couldnt recruit worth a d@mn. Thos 3* guys have to redshirt, like Simpson has done with Miller. Miller will be the plug and Blissett the disruptor going forward. Holley & Munoz need to redshirt and I think they will. If Simpson can flip Ingraham, then we have some ingredients.
Posted by: His Majesty The Dude on High | November 30, 2018 at 02:35 PM
Seens like some of these guys just want to get themselves into the league and start the clock ticking to their second contract.
Shaq and Pickney may be thinking they’ve started and managed to stay relatively injury free for three straight years and staying another year won’t make them any stronger or faster.
But there are far more examples of Kendrick Norton failing than Allen Hurns getting that big payday.

Honey Nut Berrios
In camp, Berrios also seemed to catch the eye of fellow wide receiver Julian Edelman who came up with a sweet nickname for the rookie in "Honey Nut Berrios."
