NEW BLOG IS UP

Herbieibis

Are we playing on the road, dam. That can only mean one thing a loss. Va Tech sucks defensively but with our O-line, false starts, play calling and our glorious punter this would seem like the perfect storm for what ails TECH'S defense. This has all the makings for an ugly game. The only saving Grace is our defense. Tech finds a way to help us continue our misery , 23-21.

Congrats on a great season.
Sorry to hear your mom is not doing well, you have been through too many health issues for one family for sure

BigWindyCane

By the way, Miami Central “flipped the script” on Carol City, and beat them in the playoffs. Lots a talent in the game. Canes need to win and close out the season on a positive note to help them with some of these recruits.

BigWindyCane

Soup,
That 95 yard drive against GT last week showed me some things. Players are saying Perry is getting “comfortable “ in playing QB. We will see tomorrow, but I have a good feeling about the Canes turning the corner a little. This could be the game where the Canes might inspire optimism for the future

well garbage in garbage out this is the Garbage Bowl. It could be 80 and sunny up there and we would feel cold.Put both teams in all white and you could not guess who was who regarding apathy and incompetency...

I am at home visiting my mom who is very very ill had a serious stroke. Normally I would be at the game as i know so many people here...and i would watch from heated box hell I am not crazy about the cold anymore either if i do not have to be in it good!

I am going to watch at home as it is not like seeing the great teams we have had....My guys finished regular season last night 8-0 again...and our game is far more sound regarding execution and fundamentals than the effort this year from all....hell my guys really want to win do not see that from CMR and Co...seems they forgot how to...or is it that the mental breakdown and bong hits have filtered down to all?

We will see what happens
Would like a win but who knows? Lets hope so....

TonyCane

I’d like this Canes squad to return to the mirror universe where mediocrity and underoerformance are a staple of the program, and for the team from our timeline to return after a one year absence.

NativeCane

... Oh yeah, along with the new OC and OL coach....

Excellent wish list Dude but I would settle for having the neck on my Gibson J-30 reconditioned instead of the strat, our decommits to recommit and a hand full of extra 4 and 5 stars on signing day.

I just want something positive to happen in CANES football. So much bad going on-5 unnecessary loses-poor coaching-QB performance below average-O-line porous-recruiting at an all time low-offense 14 points a game-on and on etc.Been going on so long-fighting from getting use to it.Heart breaks with every play-don’t watch any more.
So how about something positive-Let’s start by beating the VT chickens.

My prediction: Canes 34, VT 13

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | November 16, 2018 at 08:33 AM

I second that emotion.

Sooner or later we GOTTA be right, right?

BigWindyCane1

Canes are now a -6 point favorite at Blacksburg for the first time in many, many years. Hokies started the season ranked in the top 15, were embarrassed by Pitt last week, and are struggling in all three phases.

The Canes don't look good but I saw some signs of progress last week. I don't think the Canes players have given up on the season. First, Perry started which is a positive step. Second, the Canes overall played better against GT on the road at night, than they did the previous week at home against Duke. Third, Cam Davis showed me that he can play like a real RB at this level, especially if Homer is hurt and Deejay hasn't overcome his fumble problems (I always wondered why he and Lingard didn't get more reps this year because they are the two RBs on the Canes roster with more upside and an NFL future).

My prediction: Canes 34, VT 13

VA Cane

Think we struggle in Bburg.
Guys are down, CMR seems to accept the fate of this season, the line is a mess as are STs.....wont matter who QBs.
Our hope will be the D; VT struggles on O.
Weather will be an issue as it will be mid 40s to start dropping into 30s at dark.
Hope for best all.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Blake James' interview with Ivins just shows how pathetic he is as a leader. Football decisions at Miami need to be outside of the AD's hands and in the hands of a Butch Davis type or even an NFL GM.

Newsflash:

We lose both games left on our mediocre schedule. Richt SHOULD be fired immediately. Let me put it in perspective to those in the real world. I am a teacher and let’s say one year a majority of my students fail their end of grade tests. They would NOT renew my contract for the next year.

Obviously, James won't publicly say he's going to force a change. Doesn't look good to the coach if he did.

Herbieibis

Windy,
The Herb has been hoping for a long time and every comes and goes and it's the same old song and dance.
The solution is one of two things: either Richt fires some of his offensive staff and he doesn't want to, then somebody needs to spell it out for him in the either or. Either u make changes or we will have to let u go. That coversation should have already taken place.
What major University has had 3 four game losing streak in three years? Yes there are scum buckets teams that constantly lose but a team that has flirted with the top 25 all three years!

BigWindyCane1

False hope is better than no hope at all.

Posted by: nemo2002 | November 15, 2018 at 09:27 AM

I am definitely a Canes fan, and hope is all I got right now. The Canes are not going to the ACC Championship or a major bowl this year; with two regular season games left, that has already been decided.

There still is not just hope - but a very realistic chance - that the Canes can finish the season on a three-game winning streak and capture some momentum going into the off-season and the recruiting trail.

I realize that many highly-sought-after local recruits are down on the program because the program has regressed in year 3 under CMR. I have some theories about why this happened (such as naming Rosier the starter early in Fall camp, poor offensive game-planning for each opponent adequately, favoritism among coaches/players, poor offensive line play/coaching, poor special teams play/coaching, etc.), but having freshman QB (Perry) who will hopefully show that he can win against Virginia Tech and Pittsburg (two Coastal Division foes) will help stem the tide and stop the bleeding on the recruiting trail.

Although it is possible that the Canes could lose the next two games, I think it is more likely that they win the remaining two games. They are actually favored by -5 1/2 to win in Blacksburg this weekend.

If the Canes win at Blacksburg, they should also be favored at home to close out the regular season. Then, a win in the bowl game against another 7-5 team will help.

There is a solid chance that Homer, Shaq and Pinkney and the other juniors will return for their senior seasons to improve their draft stock. Joe Jackson, projected as a first round pick, is probably gone, but Garvin and Rousseau are all coming back. Jeff Thomas is coming back.
A new offensive line coach is probably getting hired; hopefully, a new OC too. Cam Davis and Lingard should be given more carries, and younger WRs need to be developed.

There is hope coming back next season, especially if the Canes can put together a nice little streak to close out the season. Moreover, I am hopeful that CMR will make some coaching changes on offense and special teams.

True Herbie. What can each coach sell?

FSU - Jimbo left us with scraps. Come play here and you'll get instant playing time. In fact, I guarantee you the starting position!

Florida - We're on the right track - 7-3 in the mighty SEC and trending up for Year 2

Miami - ?

Tony,
FSU has always done better than us and has done less with more. They absolutely stink worse than we do. They're crewts must be dumb to be sticking with them and ours must be smart for dumping us. Can't figure that one out.

As much as I respect Manny as a DC, I cant go along with what others are saying that he should be the HC after Richt. Why? Crooting.

In year 3, with one of the nations best Defenses.

Couldnt land the top SoFL DT (Ingraham) has missed consistently.
Couldnt land the top SoFL DE (Bogle) and has not been able to stack players there.
Could not land top CBs in any year ever, is struggling to hang on the 3* kids now, Good gone, Brownlee next. Didnt even offer some top guys.
Couldnt land top Safeties enough. Even 3*s like Nunn are bailing on him.

Got to be able to be able to croot SoFL to win here. Got to close the deal. I thought we'd be getting that in Richt, oh well.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Its bad Herbie.

Herbieibis

So let's see, we wanted to bring In 2 RB'S, why I don't know and we have exactly zero.
We wanted to bring in 2 TE'S and we have, well I guess we are supposed to call Hodges a TE at 6'1.5 and according to how u want to list him, we either need one or we have none.
We wanted to bring in one QB, uh we have none.
I believe 4 linemen and before the early period gets here we could have 2 or none.
We needed to bring in at least One WR but since Richards is done, now it's 2, we have one.
DB's at least 4 and we have 2.
After the early signing period it's pretty much who u can flip or which rock u can flip over and find a hidden gem.

Herbieibis

Well we can check MacIntosh off our wish list, he verbed to Georgia. Where do go from here. We once we're sitting in a pretty comfortable position for some good players, now one by one they are disappearing from our radar. Our pool of talented players were looking to close this class with has shrunk.

And, it’s got to the point where most fans don’t either- it’s really a question of Blake and the bot - do they care enough to fire richt OR force the overhaul.
Maybe you should forward the article to Blake and anyone on the bot (if you know anyone)

We curb stomped these guys just a year ago.

Since then we have gone in completely opposite directions.

There is a BIG difference between this and what we hear from the guy running the show down here.

To rejuvenate the Irish on the field, Kelly orchestrated a complete overhaul of his staff, program and, most significantly, himself. There’s a new offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, special teams coach and strength coach. In total, he hired 17 new staff members in the football staff. “We failed and I failed,” Kelly told Sports Illustrated in his office last week. “I think like any successful person.… They don’t say I’m a failure. I looked at what adjustments needed to be made.”

In an unusually candid interview, Kelly didn’t just fall on the sword for the Irish’s flop last season. He belly flopped on it, using some form of the word fail nine times and consistently pointing the finger back at himself. Antithetical to his red-faced and fiery sideline demeanor, Kelly underwent a thorough and deliberate overhaul of the program.

Some of our best canes have not been from Miami or Florida either.

Dude - working hard at the AD position, I like the coaching roster if we must stick with Pastor Richt lol

BigWindyCane

Miami needs to recruit Florida, just like Ohio St. needs to recruit Ohio, Clemson needs to recruit South Carolina and Georgia, USC recruits California, Texas needs to recruit Texas, LSU recruits Louisiana and Alabama needs to recruit it local area, which is Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Then, each team goes a cherrypicks recruits from other parts of the country.

Most coaches also think recruiting for Miami in Florida is important, because they watch high school football games in Florida, they see college football coaches from all over the country attending high school games, they look at the number of Florida players on D1 scholarships, AND they look at the number of NFL players who played high school in Florida.

If this point has to be debated, then I guess we could also debate whether the sky is blue or the ocean is wet.

Right now, the Canes aren’t getting enough of the elite recruits in their backyard. Jerry jeudy, like Ahmmon Richards, is a game-changer. A few recruits like them can change things. Even the Gators have an OT committed from Miami Central.

TruCane81

I always thought South Carolina was a spot that should produce more talent.

Looks like they are getting it together as far as player development.

TruCane81

You can be a full time head coach paid what the community decides you are worth in Georgia. If you own a construction company or are a real estate agent, no sweat, just work less hours and you can run a team.

Not in this state.

DTX,Sully,
Good points
I remember J12 was going to wear a pink suit to his sophomore year Heisman trophy winning ceremony, before he won any games.

I agree Florida high schools turn out a high number of great high school players.
I think there are more than enough quality players spread throughout the country to hold their own with Florida's players when they all get into college.

I have only seen a few Georgia high school games here. One difference you notice right away is how much more humble the kids here are in front crowds. To me they seem focused on the team first mentality most of the time.

Posted by: solarcane | November 13, 2018 at 03:17 PM

Brave position to stake out Solar. I mentioned this to Tom during the LSU fiasco. This truly is, per capita, a ton of “talent” in FL. SFL especially. But the gap isn’t as much a canyon as we like to believe than a crack in the sidewalk. That crack may make a big difference during a combine when comparing 100th of a second 40 times, but it doesn’t equal wins on the field. I believe there is more gross talent in SFL now than back in The Day. But I believe the talent gap is much smaller. Everyone learned the lessons the Canes taught them. There’s speed all over now.

Another things I’ve always believed, men physically mature immensely between 18-22/24. So just because a kid is great in HS, doesn’t mean crap a few years later vs D1 power 5 competition. In the macro, yes I’ll gladly take 20 4 star kids vs 20 3 star kids. The odds are better you’ll get more better players. But so much happens between those ages and most HS players are not stand out college players that constantly reaching back for HS accomplishments to say a college roster is filled with talent is nonsensical. You are what you are on the field.

Herbieibis

Dude, it's just a fact. Florida no doubt has the speed and produces talent but we ain't getting enough of the Jerry Juedy's of the world, oh it's true, it's dam true. We got us some talent but not like him, which is Hugh difference maker.

solarcane

Clemson has 7 players from Florida on its entire roster, two of those are from Bradenton so they shouldn't even count,
Clemson has 42 players from south Carolina on its roster, yea south carolina

Slowly but surely those that stayed in denial that the U would be back, will realize Florida high school recruits aren't necessarily that big a deal.

I know it will take another decade for this to sink in.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Idk Herbie...

Its dumb, dont need, dont want.

Herbieibis

Why? Why are we reaching out to Kelly Bryant. Don't need him. Get your asses out on the recruiting trail and bring someone in who ain't no effing reach to try and cure our ills. U put all your dam eggs in the basket for Johnson and he's going to Penn St. That was announced 3 months ago.
Recruiting wise forget Good. He doesn't even play CB and hasn't since mid. School.
The Herb ain't sweating Nunn either, especially if we are in a dog fights with The Cuse for him. Now if was between us and Bama, that might sting awhile.
Crowley bugs The Herb for a minute but we have 5 RB's coming back next year but Macintosh may cure the aches or Richards.
We need OT'S like yesterday. We probably are barely holding on to Tarquin. Whatever mo we had with Neal is probably gone.
We don't need no dam reaches we already have about 4 of those guys taking up spots now on the OLine.
We need DT help and here again I'm not talking bringing in 3 or 4 three star players. We lost Ingrahm so there went the only real chance a 4 star.
CB's we now have one in Brownlee and we maybe barely hanging on to him.
Stephson would be great but I just barely see the light at the end of that tunnel.
Bogel, I believe somehow we get.
Lb we definitely are going to need help, especially if 2 of those guys leave early. We have 3 verballed but one we are hanging on to by a thread. To sum this up, unless divine intervention occurs, we will be lucky to finish in the top 20 and that spacers ain't the way to follow up a number 8 class and expect to get us to the top of the mountain.
We all know change is coming, I just hope it happens sooner than later.

CGNC

Kelly Bryant will visit UM the weekend of the Pitt game per Susan Degnan. Personally I am ok with that. He was Clemson's starter last year and the first 4 games of this year and their record with him is good. Which means he does his homework like studying film. The more the merrier as far as competition.

CGNC

His Majesty The Dude on High

Miami's DT Blissett officially a 4*. Finally some better news from recruiting. I still think we need 1 more 4* DT, but that aint happening. I just want to see us hang on right now. Maybe get Nunn & Good back, get a RB like MAR, maybe sign 1 or 2 3* OTs like Darius Washington. QB isnt gonna happen, but I wouldnt hesitate to go for 3* Scalzo.

mi@mic@ne

A good coach always talks about the kids individual characteristics and not some kind of cog in the machine. Thats why i think all coaches need to study psychology because they must have wisdom in how to deal with personalities.

mi@mic@ne

I think motivation comes when we know what we are good at and enjoy. When we acting in our role we feel accomplishment. So we used to say if you want to stroke someones ego they you give them what they enjoy. So all the players are different. No one views the world with the same view. Everybody has their cultural way of communicating. I believe that we can deal with situations in two ways. We can oppose something we do not like in which we react with anger or we can react with pleasure because we like it. So we should respect the negative reaction or the positive because that person can only feel accepted even if we do not understand the reaction. If the person is self destructive because he reacts by doing harmful things then we need to direct them in ways that are not destructive in reacting positively or negatively. I have been watching deejays body language all year. It looks to me that he was not comfortable in the running back position. After a run it looked like to me he wanted to be taken out of the game. I mean ive watched the game all my life and running backs who love to run look jazzed after a 10 yard run. We need to focus on stroking the kids and figuring out what gets them motivated. Rich is always saying that things will change if they just do what they are told.....he has lost the team.

Young Americans dying in Vietnam = Bad football team

I did see that some Terrapin students held a protest against their admin. But their coach only killed a kid, nothing as horrible as being unable to develop a 3 star career flunky or redshirt freshman into the next Ken Dorsey. Get with it Canes!

MLAlumni1970

I can't take it anymore. I wish the students would charge the Administration Bldg., if they still have one, have a SIT-IN, as we did during the Vietnam War and not leave till the BOT's give us a hearing. Generate headlines in all the newspapers. Organize, organize, organize, for the life of the U. Publicity is all that they know. Bad publicity is the best.
You guys don't know anything about guerilla warfare like we did in the 1960's

That's a long way from the past when I new they were going to win, just waiting to see how.

Those were the days my friend,
We thought they'd never end...

It will be cold in Bburg Sat....33 that night, probably mid 40s game time with temps dropping as game goes on.
Bad place for us to play especially in the cold.
Bad day last Sat....CMR has really lost the team, and they just do not have the will to win at this time.
Bad football right now.

Real Leach quotes

Our offensive line has to be tougher people ... That will be addressed tomorrow. It will be an experience they won’t forget. They’ll be talking about it when they’re my age.

Real Leach quotes

Leach talking to his players on the sideline

If you get into a fight, don't take your helmet off...We're looking for smart football players, not dumb ones. In the interest of time, don't get into any more fights today.
~ Mike Leach on fighting

Harry Miller

I got so sick of seeing that lifeless look on his face while staring at his so called game plane that I wanted to turn the game off. I never had the feeling that we were going to win the game. That's a long way from the past when I new they were going to win, just waiting to see how.

Richt never shows that he is angry...
Richt spends the whole game staring at the game plan instead of coaching the players.
Some of the recruits are not good enough to see the field.
We give up points on the trick plays...

These are a few things that we hardly ever committed when we were relevant. I dont see the players communicating with each other on the field...

Sounds like if Shannon and Golden had a kid Richt would be it!

Excellent stuff my man!

1. It really comes down to SELF belief and confidence in what YOU are doing. You have to be YOURSELF. The real you for that situation. Whether it’s a laid back player’s coach or domineering s.o.b.

2. Body language is HUGE. Posture, eye contact, tonality, the whole nine. You know what they say about non verbal communication. You are ALWAYS communicating who you are and what you believe even when you are completely silent. People pick up on these cues and clues and YOU tell them how they should respond to you, without speaking a word.

3. Think about momentum. I know a lot of people don’t believe extra sensory perception, but I do. When human minds come in close proximity, a larger “entity” gets created. It is based on emotion and it carries us to perform in a group setting in one direction or another. Call bullshit if you want, but you witness it all the time.

OK, so I studied and majored in Psychology at UM and graduated with honors but what you just wrote on this blog could be considered an advanced degree for anyone who had the privilege of reading this. And I am not being sarcastic but dead serious.

1. Confidence and/or self belief are key characteristics in any leader because people can sense that you are being true to yourself and honest with them. Trust and commitment to common goals are the by-products.

2. Non-verbal communication is critical because it can reveal the true you and any flaws that you are trying to conceal. Sometimes when you say nothing you say everything. Bluegrass star Allison Krauss wrote: "You say it best, when you say nothing at all."

3. I am a very firm believer in momentum and synergy. My father believed ONLY in execution and dismissed "momentum" as any tangible force. He saw each play as a separate slice of the game rather than a compilation of all of the plays of the game. I totally and respectfully disagree.

We are human beings, not computers or machines, and our emotions greatly influence our choices, decisions, actions and effort levels. I believe in synergy and that together we can influence each other to be greater than our capacity as mere individuals.

A single tree standing alone may be impressive. An entire forest of trees all growing together is always way more impressive and much more formidable. It is just a fact of Nature.

Example: If a player on offense goes up and makes an amazing, leaping one handed catch it inspires others to give a stronger effort. When a player drops a pass right in their hands that could have been a score it depresses effort. That is just one component of the human aspect of "momentum".

A safety, a blocked punt for a TD or a pick six changes the "momentum" of any game. The "Turnover Chain" is another great example of momentum. Why have it if it doesn't inspire others to want to wear it next?

I rest my case...

mi@mic@ne

Weve had coaches who had a hard time keeping their emotions under control...at one time jimmy welcomed a camera on him so that he would be accountable...one of my favorite memories of jimmy was him jumping up and down doing he bobble sign....if you never react ...you are not showing that your engaged in the game..

I know from personal experience there were times in my life where I was doing what I liked but it was the wrong place...you got to also fit into the place you are at.

This is a very good point. Manny says he's excited to come to work, I dont get that from MR. He needs to find it, and get the team behind him on it, or go into retirement.
