Like everyone on the Canespace blog I have my moods. I have been the greatest optimist and the most dire pessimist at different times. In fact, over the last 14 years, I have probably had enough angst to last a lifetime.
But today, for some unknown reason, I am feeling generously optimistic.
I believe in this team because, well, because I suddenly want to, and I do.
As you watch the game think of this blog as I am making a BOLD prediction:
- The Miami Hurricanes offense will look like a well oiled, efficient machine versus Duke.
- The running game will get un-tracked racking up over 200 yards.
- The passing game will feature quick hitters and yards after catch and a few BIG plays.
- UM will score 34 points in easy fashion while holding the opposition down to 13 points.
- The "Turnover Chain" will be loud and proud during this game appearing three times.
- Miami will return a kick for a TD as special teams look special.
I believe in Coach Mark Richt and I believe in this team.
So prove me right or prove me wrong.
The optimist in me wants to see what you got!
First?
Go canes!

I love all the takes....but I will say this......we cannot get on the field with anybody in the Top 25....we would lose every game....
Playoffs? Playoffs? Play...Playoffs? are ya kiddin me? Playoffs?
Offense...QB and OL especially are horrible.
STs are worst in the country.
The D would be on the field for 45 minutes.
CMR cannot coach against that kid of talent; heck LSU BC and UVA already embarrassed us.
There is no way this team with this Coach, OC, OL and QB was ever going to sniff the playoffs....go through Clemson to get there?
There may be teams in other divisions that could beat us!!!!
No Way we were near being in the playoffs...JMO...we are a bad football team with bad coaching!!!!!

VA is not a good team. We lost to a very, very trash school, with a trash HC and trash players. Thanks Mark.

we knew when they hired Richt what we were getting...no surprise...another goldilox ..the fans could have picked a better coach

Does the UVA loss to Pitt help Miami in any way?

It does for the Coastal, not that thats something our team should think about... even if we do get there, its not something we a) deserve or b) should celebrate. Our team (staff) has way too many things to get better at before they can even think about feeling comfortable. Perhaps if they get lucky and get back to the ACC CG, and actually pull off the upset then they can high five and slap backs, until then they can shut their mouths and beat the next team in front of them. Im absolutely sick over Mark Richt's annual let down... or 2... losing to the likes of VA... what an embarrassment... and to follow it up with that effort at BC, shameful, completely shameful.

And for f*cks sake play Perry you idiots!
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | November 03, 2018 at 12:29 AM
Two weeks.
In two weeks it probably happens.
Jarren.
Jarren Williams.
He will start, and that will begin the turning of the tide.
The more I think of it, I believe we’re ignoring the likely answer right in front of us. Richt’s offense may be antiquated or too conservative, but this year it appears absurdly slow. The reason may be simply the quarterbacks. Rozier is too limited to run portions of the offense, and Perry doesn’t know it enough. The latter was the report on him this summer - that he was throwing bad interceptions in the end zone in practices.
But potentially now, we have someone with a higher upside than Perry and someone who has absorbed the offense. Playoffs cannot happen, the Coastal is very unlikely. So the future...the real future starts in Game 11. We’re not sacrificing a year of Jarrens eligibility tomorrow when we can beat Duke with Rozier or Perry. But to begin to move off the plateau treadmill, Jarren has to play. And he will once we hit Week 11. And then, maybe, things will look a littl different.
Again, I could easily be wrong. But going back to when he came in, reading the comments made about him by people on the team....I’ve had the impression that this is the next guy. So let’s crush Duke tomorrow - as we should - and then hang tight until Week 11.
Posted by: TonyCane | November 03, 2018 at 01:01 AM
Absurdly so, not “absurdly slow”

Said it before and I'll say it again.
Here are the stats from the final six games of Kaaya's lone season in CMR's offense. All were ACC games plus Notre Dame and #14 West Virginia in the bowl:
140-225 (63%) for 1836 (306 yds pg) with 15 TDs and 2 INTs.
Overall record 5-1. Only loss we scored 27 straight vs the Irish before giving up the lead late. No one can dispute he finished here playing by far his best football ever here.
First half of Rosier's first year was also very good. He had a pretty solid completion (5 0f 6 higher than 57%) and TD to INT ratio (14-3)..
But he was limited. Anyone could see that. And as more film became available showing what he coudn't do, game planning against him got easier and easier.
We then lost ALL our best and most experienced playmakers to injury. Then they graduate or stay injured.
Now we have an OC in CMR that's gone off the deep end conservative, a QB any decent coordinator can game plan for because he has so few strengths and an offense where we are starting or giving signifcant reps to at least half a dozen true freshmen and sophomores.
What's left is what we have now. A total shit show.
My point is, I guess, is with the right players this offense has and will work again. The problem I have with CMR now is he hasn't shown any ability to get the most out of his offense when we DON'T have all the tools at his disposal.
That's the difference between a great OC and an averageto below average one.
So I hope CMR either get's a fresh young mind in here that will make this offense work no matter who's on the roster OOOORRRR Jarren Williams is everything we hope he is.

As I sit waiting for my Brocatos Cuban cheese toast and Cuban jacked up coffee I must say great article, I like optimist Tom on game day.
Hey I told U at lake Kissimmee that Rosier was gonna be our qb, huh? Didn't know it would be quite like this.
Score prediction is no score for four quarters then we lose by a fg in OT.

Native, if that actually happened. I’d have no choice but to laugh at the steaming pile we are. The only thing funnier than that outcome is....: we were ranked #8 preseason. Freaking 8!!!!! 😂😂😂
Posted by: BEERicane | November 03, 2018 at 08:20 AM
Our RBs gained too much weight. Homer wasn't lighting fast, but he was fast in those break away runs against VT and ND last season.

Clemson with that spread look, RB up the middle for 70 yards without breaking a sweat. How do they make it look so easy, and we make it look so hard?

Recruiting battles:
We need Auburn to get embarrassed today.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | November 03, 2018 at 12:21 PM
I still cant believe we lost to VA & BC. Unreal... we should only have 1 loss right now, but 1 man decided we shouldnt because he let Helfrich leave Miami without a job. I dont think MR gets fired this year, but an OC should be forced on him until Miami can afford to let him go. If he wins, he wins, but the O should be out of his hands.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | November 03, 2018 at 12:24 PM
We play va and bc at hard rock and we would have only had one loss....Richt cant motivate the team ..he needs the fans to do it...

You've got to be kidding me.
We had a bad first 20 minutes AS A TEAM on the road against Notre Dame then scored 28 straight points and had the lead in the 4th.
And how in the world were we bad against West Virginia? Because we had a couple of three and outs early?
Lmao WW.
We were whipping their asses 21-7 at the half and finished blowing them out in the third quarter.
Can you please stop making stuff up?

Overwhelming talent.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | November 03, 2018 at 12:40 PM
Actually WW is Correct
If it wasn’t for Ammon breaking that exciting td against wv, we probably get blown out.
And most fans on here agree.
Richt just doesn’t have ‘it’, but we’re stuck with him
Posted by: AeroCane | November 03, 2018 at 12:45 PM
Ps
Blown out was me be fired up
We wouldn’t have been blown out but we probably would of lost. It’s sucks that richt can’t get anything going early
It’s like he’s lazy and does nothing during the week

Finally, a post that features people trained to shake pom-pom's and wiggle that junk properly instead of sid-tard GD moron style! About time.
"Posted by: 86Cane | November 02, 2018 at 11:52 PM"
Friday night South Beach nightlife flu isn't that strong a virus, add at least a TD or two to Duke's total and you're probably in the correct margin on the final score.
"Posted by: NativeCane | November 03, 2018 at 07:59 AM"
This post reveals you've watched even less Duke football this year than UMike had BC football going into last week, Wally. Cutcliffe is seriously out-personnel-ed in the trenches and there's no scheme in the coaching HOF he can use to fix that in six hours.
"Posted by: WWIN | November 03, 2018 at 11:50 AM"
There you go again, activating the GD sid-tard talking point defense program to slurp the gold-hen-gurl-loser-for-life-against-the-primary-rival-dude years after his sorry ass quit like a bitch on the program and now it's better off for not carrying that dead weight on the scholarship limit. Just tell him to die in a fire and take his TS buddy with him while he's at it, then let's concentrate on the program sorting out the six year rebuild it's halfway finished being stuck in thanks to the pyrite rain of error setting it back a decade all by itself.

By the half that game was over.
Saying that without one play we'd have somehow lost is your right to believe but that theory makes no sense imo.
