We are all happy that the old story line of college football that the traditional teams have taken it over is being played out again. If college football collapses in the future it will be driven be three things:

1) CTE concerns that become politicized
2) The next recession creates terrible political optics for some states - where students are struggling to put together the loans necessary to pay for still escalating tuition costs, you have coaches making up to $10M per year and an isolated campus elite - the players - have have special buildings and special privileges
3) Alabama's complete domination. It has gotten to the point that I can say with near certainty that the Crimson Tide's next window of opportunity to lose a game is in 2020 - after Tua goes pro. And as good as Clemson is, they will lose by 30 to Alabama when they face them yet again in the playoffs. This level of dominance - where all of the elite talent goes to one school - is bad for the conference and for the sport. It ultimately kills interest, because the outcome is predetermined.

I'll use the NBA as an example, as it is the closest in terms of dynastic sports. Since 1983 only ten teams have won an NBA title (Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, Bulls, Rockets, Spurs, Heat, Mavericks, Cavaliers, and Warriors). So if you a fan of Atlanta, Toronto, Milwaukee, or Charlotte - what hope do you have?

When the playing surface is rainy and wet, the closer to the point where the ball is spotted a player plays the more it negates athletic superiority in favor of fundamental soundness at the point of attack, the perfect recipe for a basketball school's football team.

Once you add in a QB advantage on top of the conditions and special teams continuing to throw points on the field like they're infected with sid-tardation talking points to justify losses and that's enough to do something that hasn't happened in my lifetime. What a shit-show, all around, three phase failure two weeks in a row.

Nah, I was for Pirate Captain no doubt, but other than that I was for hiring Butch Davis or Gary Patterson from TCU all the way. Orgeron's an untreated drunk imo and is the most overrated head coach currently working in college football, keep him far away from Miami as anything other than a positional guy, if at all.

Hey, at least Fake Lames will gin up some laughable talking points for GD to try and spin as a positive during a forgettable at best November this season in a few hours, that'll be worth the price of a typepad login help ticket for sure Hurricane football fans! Get to spinning GD.

When the CANES basketball team was in the "hunt", a few years back, it was so damn fun watching them on tv and cheering them on. It seemed more fun, more action, lovin' Larranaga, more excitement. Maybe we will be blessed again. No more RICHTtttttt for me. Such a pansy, and I hate to guess what the payout would be to get rid of him. OR, get a new guy, keep paying Richt, make him stay on the sideline like the real deal, even though he would be just an overpaid coach hanging around. Maybe he would leave, quit, whatever, if he got embarrassed enough. Money isn't everything. He would have to stand there, rich but embarrassed.

We need a pro-style QB who can run a pro-style offense.
Yes, a pro-style QB who may in fact be drafted by a pro-team (which makes UM an even more attractive destination for top-ranked QB recruits).
And we need to widen the recruiting net for OL and DL recruits well beyond the so-called State of Miami.

Pro style is dead to Miami, you got to be able to recruit elite OLmen for that. We need to embrace the offense that has taken over CF, and is a perfect fit for Miami area talent... the spread. Its been long enough. West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Clemson, etc. Thats the direction we need to go. Demote Jon to an analyst and hire an OC. Give the OC power to make staff changes and let him decide on the OL coach, the RB, TEs and WR coaches.

The best part of my weekend visit to Miami (besides seeing fellow canespacers) was being attacked by a fricking pigeon. THATS IT!!

VA Cane

Richt was named the Walter Camp National Coach of the Year and the ACC Coach of the Year after leading the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record in 2017. The 10 victories were the most since 2003. He has a 19-7 record in his first two seasons at UM.

Richt is one of the most successful coaches in college football, having come to Miami after 15 seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs. His overall record is 164-58.

All this is nice....very much like Beamer. Lots of numbers, no titles.
In football at any level only one thing really counts; winning titles. Division and conference are nice sound good....and got to get there to be in the big game...but NC is all i want.
Dont care about All Americans, 4.2 40s, High school All Americans, stats or any bowl game when it gets down to it....Must win the big one, bring it home.
We have 5, should have 6, and played for 5 that we were woefully unprepared for...5 bad losses!
Still the NC is all that matters; CMR has nice stats...thats all....no big incredible accomplishments such as NC! Yes All Americans, guys to NFL, 2 SEC titles, 6 SEC East titles, 9 bowl games at GA...Coastal title, bowl game here...nice stats but NC is the goal!

Remember what Stalin said about stats....“If only one man dies of hunger, that is a tragedy. If millions die, that’s only statistics.”
We got lots of stats.
I watched some of the game, and it was messy in the rain...but Duke had to play in it too. It was bad football in bad weather....another tough game with the road ahead cloudy and dark I think...we looked rough even with the rain.
We still got the Techs and Pitt...could be rough!

VA Cane

You can run some pro set, but the time has come to change the approach....its all about attack now. I still want old school hard mean D, and to run it as well...but you got to get caught up with the times.
You can run pro in small college HS etc....but the game has changed now....as we need to do as well.

mi@mic@ne

The board does not want to deal with the problems that come from bringing in good players who need help with their courses. And the U being a small university who beats up on the big boys will bring in a lot of off field problems. We had the rule changes on celebration...we were accused of rule violations when all our players did was go to the nite clubs...Butch brought in the motha load of first rounders and we did a beat down on big Nebraska....because of our success we were investigated by the NCAA for a longer time than any of the big schools. It was all trumped up. Then we get into the ACC and the refs make calls at critical times in the game so they decide that we lose. The interference call last nite in the rain storm last nite was a judgement call. It basically ended our chances of a tie. The truth is that we are hated because of our 5 to 6 ncs and the egg heads dont want to hire good football coaches like Butch because they do it their way by recruiting good talent .

mi@mic@ne

They dont want the problems...and now since we are guaranteed money from the acc win or lose they dont care.

mi@mic@ne

Its the american way...you have millions on the line and they are gonna try to destroy the little guy...or in politics the other party

mi@mic@ne

Remember when the money is there the people who go after it are not nice...lol when college football started bringing in big dollars it bought in private businesses....they did not get rich by being nice. its not like the old days..its now a protective corporate system

mi@mic@ne

I wished we could have heard all those private conversations after we kicked Nebraska's ass.....and what was said when we joined the ACC

mi@mic@ne

I watched football all yesterday and I saw a lot worse push offs that were not called ...its sad..of you watch it with any desire to be fair..he had his hands on the guy and let loose to catch the ball..the push did not cause the d back to fall down

mi@mic@ne

i will guarantee you if the catch was doogies and we were defending there would be no call...based on my hours of watching us play since we joined the acc ..if we suc we invite the calls but it depends upon the pressure and the teams...we were a dynasty when they decided when they called the interference to give osu the win

mi@mic@ne

this is the truth .,.you ask anybody or even a ref...in the old days it was damn near impossible to get a call when the play decided the outcome...because there was no ref that wanted to decide who won the game...an old axiom of fairness no longer practice

mi@mic@ne

it is practice tho for bama and the big schools.

I am officially cutting the cord with the Canes. I will now only follow the Falcons, and English Premier League Soccer. Richt is sorry bro it’s very obvious we are not progressing. At this point in the season, players are reducing their effort to NFL Hall of Fame levels. After all, why get hurt for a completely lost cause?

I’d like to see a completely delusional Mark Richt come out at his next presser and announce that:

1) I am running a draw as my sole offensive play in each game for the next three years. It’s up to my team to execute it, and up to our opponents to try and stop it. After all, the solution to bad quarterback play is to simply remove the quarterback from the equation

2) Dare James Blake to try and get him to make a change. After all - he just signed an extension. “I own you Blake! I own Miami!”

Think everyone on that thread makes vaild points. It's not one thing or another, it's all of it.

We have a well below average, far too conservative coordinator trying to run and offense through a QB that's a week in week out net negative, being blocked for by an inexperienced and/or medicore offensive line.

The whole thing is an unmitigated disaster than will only be fixed if we address all parts of it. Richt HAS to hire a new cooridnater who can overachieve when we're just ok then dominate when we're good and we must get better players at QB and on the OL.

Herbieibis

Say it ain't so, Marcus Crowly bolted? Now not only do we not have an RB verballed but no QB either. Just effing great and we wanted 2 RB'S in this class.
Well when u play like a shyt show and u call Pop Warner plays, I guess is the end result.
As The Herb stated a while back that the writing on the wall was there before our very eyes, when our 2019 verbs were ranked anywhere from 18 to 20. U don't bring in a number 8 class in 2018 and follow it up with a 20. Plus it is loaded with 3 star jewels.
We have to find a QB. Perry ain't it. Don't know about Weldon or Williams. Weldon can't get out of his own way.
We have talent but not depth of it at alot of positions.
Jordan is a manchild. U can't rely on freshmen no matter how talented because of the growing pain factors plus getting use to the intricacies of college football. Most are not physically ready to contribute right away on a semi full time basis. With our depth of talent issues Ayers better suited to redshirt are playing but not a lot but enough to blow a year.
Our oLine talent has not been developed or they we're just plain over rated or we took what we could get. We have to many space takers not contributing or Searles just plain can't coach but it's probably both.
We have a ton of WR's but other than Thomas, who is a go to guy?
We only have 2 upper class guys, Cager and Langham.

DJ and Homer are above average backs but are not great to elite but who could be with that O-Line plus the ay calling.
No way, any of these teams in the Coastal should be on the field with us, period. But safe plays and little to know imagination in those calls has us looking like sitting ducks to every Dee coordinator we play against. They have to be licking there chops.
This has been nothing but a shameful exhibition of how to blow a season on almost every level, except thank God for our defense or we truly would be atrocious!

We better hope these LB'S their bringing in can play. Soloman needs to add some weight before he can contribute. Other than our 3 Jr. backers there isn't a whole lot of talent and Macloud hasn't done much this year. We can't recruit certain positions every other year or wait until we are woefully thin at certain positions to go full bore and bring 3 or 4 guys. We need to hit every position every year and stock pile talent, not reaches or under the radar types, that's what grad transfers are for. His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: Herbieibis | November 05, 2018 at 12:07 AM

I dont believe in grad transfers. I think you have to grab the cream every year, along with a about 6 kids that dont mind a redshirt. For example Nunn is an elite athlete, but only a 3*. He could develop into a very nice S, and would essentially be an elite freshman prospect next year. A perfect S class would look like Stevenson or Battle, Smith & Nunn. Of course that wont be happening, in fact recruiting will likely head the other direction now while we "wait to see how this all plays out." I dont mind 3* kids, if theyre clearly talented and are willing to redshirt, Jaquan, Ford (should have redshirted but Miami didnt get two 4*s), Young (should have been a redshirt guy), Nunn this year, Brownlee this year, Burns. All are quality projects.

His Majesty The Dude on High

Posted by: WWIN | November 05, 2018 at 12:19 AM

Recruiting is done. Its all about holding on to what we got now. This is what happens when the AD lets the captain take the ship down with him. This is what happens with poor leadership.

BEERicane

This has gotten so bad. Lingard has a busted knee, shit his career could be over. We got nothing at RB, nothing at OL, nothing at QB, WR doesn’t mean shit. The D will get picked over and head to the NFL with unproven and inexperienced players behind them. There’s a good chance next year is worse than this disaster. Add to it a junk recruiting class, we are looking at 2022 for the first shot to climb outs of the gutter. Get used to being UCLA, cuz if there aren’t major changes in staff, this program is officially dead.

The time has come for Miami freshman QB Jarren Williams to play. When will it happen?

BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN
sdegnan@miamiherald.com

ovember 04, 2018 01:03 PM
Bring in Jarren Williams — but when?

Among all the other facts you can muster about two-thirds of the University of Miami football team (not including the defense) being a colossal disappointment, here’s one that will surely be addressed by the coaching staff this week: allocation of playing time for true freshman quarterback Williams.

The new NCAA redshirt rule allows true freshmen to play in all or parts of four games and still maintain their four remaining seasons of eligibility. Williams, whom fans can’t see soon enough, has already played sparingly in one game, thus leaving him only three more to burn in order for him to have four more full seasons, beginning in 2019, in which to compete.

The Canes (5-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who fell to Duke 20-12 at home Saturday in another sad performance, play at 7 p.m. Saturday against Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3); at Virginia Tech (4-4, 3-2) on Nov. 17; and at home against Pitt (5-4, 4-1) in the Nov. 24 regular-season finale.

They need a victory against one of those three opponents to earn a bowl game.

Should Williams play on Saturday at Georgia Tech? Or should coach Mark Richt wait a week and play him in the final two regular-season games and then, if the Canes qualify, in the bowl game?

And, if Williams plays Saturday and does well, which game, then, would coaches choose to sit him? Surely not in the only home game left, when the fans would be giving him plenty of support against Pittsburgh in that regular-season finale.

Williams obviously wouldn’t start, but just get enough playing time to acclimate him to college football, get him more prepared for next season and hopefully give him some confidence.

Williams, a strong-armed 6-2, 210-pound former consensus four-star prospect considered one of the best and brightest new signal callers to enter college football this season, is from Lawrenceville (Georgia) Central Gwinnett High.

An Army All-American his senior year in high school, Williams completed 62 percent of his passes last year and threw for more than 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

His lone appearance this season came in the home opener on Sept. 8 against Savannah State, when he threw three times and completed one pass for 17 yards. He also ran twice, once for a 2-yard touchdown.

Malik Rosier, UM’s senior starter for six of his seven games this season, has completed 77 of 144 passes (53.5-percent accuracy) for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns, with five interceptions. He also has a team-high six rushing touchdowns.

Saban has a team that studies the stats, the other teams tendencies etc and makes suggestions on what needs to be done to become more successful on the field...its business.

Nicholas Lou Saban Jr is an American football coach who has been the head football coach at ... In 1973, Saban graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in business. In 1975, he earned his master's degree in sports ...

There you go...business degree..lmao

former players watching film and advising the coach.. coach implements the o and d scheme on that particular week.

CMR will have to make some big changes among offensive coaches and philosophy. It is obvious that offensive line has under-performed all season, but I don't see any offensive position group that is performing well this season.

A coach like Jedd Fisch could help. One of the big issues with these QBs is understanding what the defense is giving you, and also the mechanics are poor or inconsistent. This is basic QB coaching.

Communication is an important factor in coaching. It seems that Jedd Fisch did a great job communicating with his QBs, and teaching them how to execute plays. Jedd's offensive schemes didn't wow me, but he seemed to know how to teach his players how to understand the game and to execute.

I don't think Manny Diaz will leave for a Head Coaching job this season. Although his position group has performed well, the program is not winning and that hurts his chances, unless he is willing to take a small college job or a lateral DC position, which would not be a good thing for the Canes program.

The old days of coaches doing all the work is over....they focus in coaching the players...all the planning is done for them

mi@mic@ne

when your richer than anyone on the payroll at the university you get to be an organizer figure head...lol..you dont do the dirty work..lmao

mi@mic@ne

how would you like to be a coach who the week before you play the next opponent you get a cheat sheet of the other team with all the tendencies..even the places they go ..the things they eat etc..lol then you go on the field and implement the scheme that has been planned by people who have 40+ hours to study the teams you play...lol

mi@mic@ne

Saban spends some time in the NFL ..gets a taste of the origination side of pro football..goes to alabama and structures the program like the pros..enjoys business more than coaching.

mi@mic@ne

can you imagine going to the house of a kid you recruit in another state and you know what he eats..where he spends his time...what he is good at..your quality control team is like having a cam hooked up and watching him ..lol
