I was working 60 hours a week building commercial cabinets...the physical excursion at my age began to affect my back. So another builder helped me see a chiropractor who took x rays...the first question he asked me was have you had any trauma to your body? I looked at him and laughed. Trauma? ..since I was a kid playing football lmao thats why my spine is straight at the neck and lower back area. So now I have time to go to the gym..running 4 miles in 30 minutes on the elliptical machine..the kids at the gym are looking at me like ...are you crazy old man? lmao...i ask the doc why i have no pain after the run..endorphins...i love those endorphins...these kids complain about a little pain ..seriously spoiled. instead of running for pride now..i run for my life..

The way University of Miami treats its athletes in a profound creepy way. I don't blame none of the top recruits for not coming here. There is no way in hell I would let my kid come here especially if he is a top recruit. His talents will be wasted and his career would be doomed.

The way Richt and his croonies did Jeff Thomas and other players, also the way the admistration is treating Dewan Hernandez is an atrocity. They are literally ruining his draft stock and screwing up the season for the basketball team. And you idiots expect top recruits to come here. And the basketball season is just beginning. Think we are 4-1 and haven’t even started ACC play.

"The NCAA has always had the power to ban an institution from competing in a particular sport. However, in 1985, in response to rampant violations at several schools, the NCAA Council passed the "repeat violator" rule. The rule stipulates that if a second major violation occurs at any institution within five years of being on probation in the same sport or another sport, that institution can be barred from competing in the sport involved in the second violation for either one or two seasons."

Miami's probation ended in Oct 2016. We're still three years from being out of the window where another violation could trigger severe sanctions. Don't doubt for a second that the NCAA would love to hand down to Miami everything that they wished to in 2012 (four year bowl ban, four year loss of 10-15 scholarships per year, two to four years of no television, ect). We have to be over and beyond being above reproach for the next three years.

That means if it turns out that a kid got a rental car that was against rules...no waiting to see how it plays out. Or anything else. Trust me, if you want to see the football or basketball program go away, let Richt and Larranaga play fast and loose.

I have questions. We give Thomas the punt and kickoff returns and he houses the return. Now the question is if he had the talent to do it in one game when the other return guys could not do it in 9 games then why didn't he start the season with the returns?
In the past 3 games Cam has played a third f the games and yet he has houses his runs 2 times. Thats a good percentage. And yet it's taken the other backs the most of the season to score long 2 long runs getting the majority of the playing time.
If it was just Thomas who was upset then I would conclude that he was a problem. But I am have heard that a lot of players are upset. So my problem is that if more than one player is questioning the coaches decisions then the chances of the complaint being legit are very high
Then I ask myself have q
uestioned the corches decisions as the season has progressed. You know I have. So I conclude that something stinks in our program at the U.

PapaCane

AGREED

PapaCane

out of the 19 players eligibility being questioned why is Hernandez the only one not playing. I get what you're saying but he has done nothing wrong to violate and/or warrant sanctions. It's the administration being over cautious. Think recruits don't see and understand what this administration is doing. C'mon Man.

Simple answer (I think). When Richards went out Jeff Thomas became our only true game changing threat on offense. Or at least the only one readily visible outside of the untapped potential of the freshmen. To avoid injury to Thomas, we did not use him on kickoff and punt returns. It would be as logical as not using Duke Johnson on a punt or kickoff return team in 2012 or 2013.

The one I've always questioned is what made Randy Shannon think using a tight end (Gordon) as your primary kickoff and punt returner was a viable option in 2007.

So instead of using Thomas as the return guy knowing that at any time with his speed and a ability to cut on a dime use him in an offense with a an who cannot hit the broad side of a barn door. We are protecting him when we needed to find other ways to score points. So we decide after losing for games to take our chances that he could get hurt.We could have decided before we lost the first game that our chances of scoring and winning were more important than risking injury. But whatever you do don't question the coaches decisions

Have we cracked the top 25 with that dominante offensive performance on Saturday?

raizecane

As far as A/V Receivers go - Yamaha or Denon??

mi@mic@me.

I've learned over the years that the things that I am not proficient in just delegate them to other people. It seem to me that our coaches are trying to do things that they are not good at. That's the only reason there is a lack of unity in a group. You should know the coach's input that can be trusted. I'm seeing stupid decisions coming from the coaching staff

No, not at all. I'm just trying to put myself in the coach's shoes and think - why not use Jeff Thomas as a kick returner? What is the most logical explanation?

Thomas was the #2 WR entering the season, and after LSU he was the #1 wideout. So logically, do you use a number one wide receiver as a kick and punt returner? I mean, you can, but do you trust Hightower, Wiggins, Ezzard, or Pope to step up into Thomas' spot if he's hurt?

It's not like Devin Hester in 2005. Hester wasn't our number one wide receiver and a focal point for the offense. Thomas from game two on was.

Now I could easily be wrong. It could be a myriad of other reasons. Maybe the special teams coach refused to vouch for him. Maybe Thomas refused. Maybe Richt views playing as kick returner as an honor not worthy of JT. I don't know. But looking for the explanation for the actions of people being paid hundreds of thousands - if not millions to put on a quality product, I tend to go with the most logical reason.

It also doesn't mean we should agree with the decision, even if we can understand the logic.

If the admin being overly cautious bothers U, and I don’t necessarily disagree on that, U need a new team to support or are in for a frustrating ride. The admin isn’t going to risk the FINANCIAL hit yhat comes with serious NCAA action (or even the possibility of such action). Plus, U think things are tough recruiting right now... just wait if The U gets in NCAA trouble again.

mi@mic@me.

That's the problem. Us old guys have watched a lot of games. It's not like we are guessing because they only practice out of our observation And as a Cane fan we have the history of being part of a dynasty. After watching players who have been riding the line while we lost 4 in a row that we had the pieces on offense to win those games if they were playing You can ask the other spacers if they saw what I saw and they also are asking the same questions

Not saying that he did, but if hypothetically Jeff Thomas committed an NCAA violation and we were fairly certain that he was guilty, the Miami coaching staff would have little choice but to do with him what was done with AQM.

It's simply the situation that we're in. The players have known this for years. The recruits that Richt has brought in should also know this. There can be no tolerance for that sort of stuff.

mi@mic@me.

Chances are very high if he committed a violation that he knew was wrong other than a behavioral one. He decided to part ways with the corch.

solarcane

I think JT4 had so many practice issues in high school his team mates had to vote to let him stay on the team. That's disrespect to your coach and team mates.
I know this is the entitlement generation, but Im old school enough that I would have bought Thomas a ticket out of town.
One Johnny Football a generation is enough.

That's likely. The question is, why was Jeff Thomas also looking to leave at the end of the 2017 season? Did he feel he was being used that poorly then? Or was there a personality conflict?

Let me touch upon that latter. Both of my sons have played AAU ball. My older son was on a team where the coach actually kicked his own son off of the team because of a personality conflict. His son was one of the better players on the team, yet he got rid of him.

I generally agree with JJ's admonition that special players get special privileges, but that does not mean unlimited privileges. In "Shark Among Dolphins", the example of a backup player who fell asleep in a team meeting was cited. It did not matter to JJ that the player had just had a child and was sleep deprived. He was released nonetheless. JJ said however that if it had been Dan Marino, he would have simply had him nudged awake. However...if Dan Marino was continually falling asleep in meetings or late for practices, JJ's patience for a HoF player would eventually run out. Because ultimately you're losing credibility as a coach and leader.

That said, I have no idea if there was any sort of issue like that with Thomas and Richt. I am concerned that Richt is not elastic like JJ, and that any violation is treated with the same firmness whether you are Jeff Thomas or a walk-on.

mi@mic@me.

Jj was a master in getting players like Thomas on his side. He didn't like the player who played stupid. Missing assignments or committing penalties. But Thomas was not a stupid player. The Canes won with jj. That solved a lot of problems keeping the good players happy. Coaching decisions are what keeps the team winning. Losing shows that the coach made some costly decision

mi@mic@me.

The juniors and seniors dropping passes never happened under jj. They won so the older guys were part of the coaching. Our problem now is the younger talented guys don't respect the older guys because they were not dependable to make the plays to win the game.
