Mark Richt is a class act. Way to put the needs of the U ahead of your own. He could have milked it for AT LEAST one more year. Blake James, this next hire will make or break your legacy at the U...don't f@#$ it up!!

We need the top heads, who played and coached for the U, to help us get the best. NOW is the time for Dorsey, Lewis, Sapp, etc. to meet and talk this out.

I don't know, but in three years he turned Syracuse from...well, Syracuse to a team that almost beat us in Year 2 and the only team thus far to give Clemson a scare in Year 3.

So it sounds like you want Butch?

AeroCane

If he can recruit south Florida and hire good assistants I’m good!

Dude on a Pale Horse

All of the new HCs sound good... Cristobal, Butch, Venables...

That's not the point though. The point is the staff hires. We need to hire well qualified coaches with resumes. The HC that hires a qualified spread OC, and a DC the likes of Greg Schiano is going to win and croot at Miami. We need a true CEO, not someone looking to hand out jobs to BFFs and relatives.

MLAlumni1970

We don't have any clout, but let's hope the BOT take their time, consult JJ, Butch, etc. for their input. Simple request. Hope they do, but I doubt it.
Time for all the greats to give their input.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Rex Ryan isn't happening. No point in really speculating until BJ speaks in about 5 minutes.

I'm a Butch fan and would love to have him but I prefer Mario. This offensive line is in need of extreme tutelage. Imo, Mario is the guy. Keep Jess Simpson and I'll be ready to rock out. Championships are won at the line of scrimmage.

Mario has a $10 million dollar buyout before 1-31-2019 and it only reduces by $2 million afterwards, if what I've read is correct.

Get it: We don't need no pro style coach. We can't and have not been able to get the good linemen to run it.
Bama can and even they run spread but with their horses up front they could run any style.
We need a splash hire and especially one that can recruit and get So. Flo. Kids excited to come here.

Solar, straight up!

BigWindyCane

CMR did some good things as coach, but this decision to retire is best for everyone involved.

As for potential replacements, I like TBC’s suggestion, Mike Leach, who would immediately help the Canes close with a good recruiting class. Available 2019 QB recruits will want to play for Leach. I think Leach would have the freedom to decide whether he should keep Patke and Banda as Co-DCs, let them remain in some other capacity and/or find an experienced DC

If you wish hard enough, your dreams can come true. CMR did the right thing as he is no longer interested in coaching football.
Now we have to get rid of Blake James and the entire BOT. I just sent this email to BJ:

Dear Sir;

While it is clear Coach Mark Richt understands he cannot lead this football program, it is now pertinent that you see that you cannot lead this athletic department.

Sir, you have no understanding how historic and important this storied program is and you have been the leading component in allowing it to sink to a new low. We all know you and many members of the Board of Trustees do not care about football or have ever played the game. So many of you do not understand what it takes or means to be a champion. I am sick and tired of hearing this school called the Harvard of the South. This is not about education; Harvard may be a fine school, but they have never won anything important on an athletic field. This school will continue to provide great educational experiences; this is about football.

Take a look at the two finalists in this years college football championship. The last time I checked, The University of Alabama and Clemson University were located in the South. They are also fine schools, and they win on a fairly regular basis. Mr. Saban has won 5 National Championships and 88% of his games at Alabama. Under your leadership, we have gone in the opposite direction; the football program is a dumpster fire and a national social joke.

I implore you to resign immediately. Surely you have enough ego and money to last your lifetime and provide your family that smug, upper crust lifestyle you greedily enjoy. Please encourage the entire Board of Trustees to resign as well, as they, like yourself, have no desire to see the program return to our lofty perch in college football. None of you have made the effort it takes to accomplish this, and  each of you need to get out of the way and stop impeding the success of Hurricane football.

They all need to go now....F**k education; people get one her...I paid for my nieces!!!!
This is about football!!!!

Old Skool

Perhaps Patrick Nix will want Jon Richt to join him at Charleston Southern

Dg

No short term solution....think 3-5 years out! NFL coordinator or position coach with some college experience. Bama has had a ton of success but all those no.1 picks have mostly been average or flamed out in the League. That's your selling point. Some say Venebles doesn't want to be a HC. I doubt that. Let's check Jimmy Sexton's client roster and go from there 😀

thirstybuzzardcane

Butch or Leach are my top two right now! These are the only guys who will improve our recruiting during the next 5 weeks!

I caught hell suggesting Richt would hang it up on his own accord.

But that look he had was undeniable.

All criticism aside I wish him well and thank him for his effort.

He did some good things, just didn’t have what it took to go where we want.

No shame. He been in this game a long time and needs an obvious break, if not a new life path altogether.

He had the integrity to step away with some dignity and led us to our best season in over a decade. Wasn’t a success, but not a failure either.

Could have been better, could have been worse.

Wishing Coach Richt the best as he moves on with his life..

TruCane81

We need to hire quickly. Shaq and Pickney might stay if it's a home run hire! And plus we need to end recruiting with a bang!

Butch is the only guy that makes sense right now!

Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | December 30, 2018 at 01:42 PM

Three year deal?

HCIW?

Is it foolish to think Butch has five years in him? I don’t think so. But three years of high energy work could be HUGE for us.

There are a lot of unknown candidates that could do well. I think maybe let Butch hire an up and coming coordinator to groom.

I think the Kiffen as oc and hciw could work. Lots of options.

I just want a strong recruiter and innovative oc. Let the defense play aggressive man and they will be ok.

This got my brain spinning.

WOW!!!

SOUP

While I can appreciate everyone naming their candidates for head coach I am not going to stress on it. I am not supporting or eliminating anyone. I understand how difficult this decision is to make after UM has gotten it wrong four times in a row. That is a lot worse than any 4 game losing streak!

Sure I like Leach, Butch and Mario but there are others out there probably as highly qualified and deserving as those easy three that quickly come to mind.

I am almost certain that when they hired Shannon and Richt they (The AD and BOT) thought "We can't go wrong with this guy".

Coker was an easy choice (a gimme) to win the 2001 championship which was worth it at the time but long term turned out pretty bad. Golden was a reach but I am sure that he interviewed really well and talked a good game. Who knows, if I were AD I myself may have fallen for his binder of 12 Pillars?

As to which assistants to keep or not I will leave that to the new head coach to bring in an OC and DC and whatever assistants they want. Those decisions, as we have seen, will make the new head coach sink or swim, so that has to be all on him.

Shannon chose horrible OCs, Golden chose a horrible DC and Richt hired then fired himself as an OC.

Let it marinate for a week or so and then let us all weigh in on our choices and see where we stand after the dust settles.

Rebuilt a DEAD program and beats more talented teams with scraps. This ain’t a Mac wannabe. Got a lot out of Dungey who ain’t a great passer. Lot of energy and x’s and o’s. We could do worse.

With a good dc,I think he will bring the smoke.

SOUP

If you took Butch from FIU and Kiffin from FAU that would be a pretty potent and immediate recruiting fix for the 305, 954 and 561 (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach).

The dream team that can't happen? Butch as HC, Schiano as DC and Mario or Kiffin as OC. Like I said CAN'T happen but hey, a guy can dream can't he?

What's good Legion/Canespace? The BOT really need to take their time and hire a coach that will continue to emphasize defense and will implore a fast and dynamic offense similar to what is being run by the high schools and youth football programs in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County. Special teams will also need to be emphasized, the U has been abysmal in that area the past few years.

Finally, academics and player behavior and conduct will need to be the standard before everything else fall in place. Unlike most state schools, the U has stricter guidelines for academic requirements. With all that being said, does anybody think that coach from Stanford might be interested?

Herbieibis

Leach, average coach. Just about everywhere he has been they sucked on defense.
Said this earlier Butch is close to 70, next
Now AD great.
Kiffin or Christobal would be 2 to look at. Kiffin is a bit of a prick but he can recruit and he knows offense
Mario knows the grounds here and has done a good job where ever he has been and he 2 is a good recruiter.
DC have no clue. I do believe u don't want to mess with the defense to much. Keep Banda and Rumph plus Simpson.
Hartly on offense the rest need to hit the brix.
Whatever we do it needs to be done quick. We have one month to find 12 more croots or maybe more. He can't be no wtf hire either.
Please please no more pro style.

ColaCane

That's why I'm looking at young and up and comers. I mentioned Venables, but there are others of his I'll, that would fit as well.
