NEW BLOG IS UP!

HawaiiCane

Thirstybuzzardcane, I think he was referring to the previous Randy Shannon hire.

Mia Chi ‘Cane ‘98

Thirsty... was taking about Shannon.

Old Skool

Uhh. I think the last time. Players influenced the choice of an HC, his name was Larry Coker.

JaxCane

Manny is a good enough defensive coordinator. Manny is a high risk high reward defensive coordinator. If you have an offense that can score that will definitely do. Who are the great defensive coordinators in college?? Show me that SHORT list and I'm sure there is a list of games he was lit up. After Venables who?

WWIN

Richt probably told Diaz sometime in the 4th qtr of the bowl he was quitting, this smells of rotten fish to me.

Posted by: solarcane | December 30, 2018 at 11:22 PM

Diaz should not have been allowed to coach in the bowl game!

nemo2002

Temple University athletic director Dr. Patrick Kraft posted on social media this statement: “This evening, head football coach Manny Diaz called to inform me that he has accepted the new head coaching position back at the University of Miami. We are disappointed that he is leaving, but wish him the best as he returns home.

“We have already launched a national search for a new head football coach and I am confident that we will bring yet another outstanding to North Broad Street.’’

D'No is available, I think.

Diaz sucks!!!

WWIN

He’s a freaking great DC. Let’s HOPE he cleans house and has a huge budget for staff.

Posted by: ThatWasQuick | December 30, 2018 at 11:19 PM

No he's not!

thirstybuzzardcane

Didn’t Miami already hire a current DC? How’d that turn out???

Posted by: MIA Chi Cane ‘98 | December 30, 2018 at 11:56 PM

Hired in house. They promoted Patke and Banda as co-DC

Thanks bruh!

Soup has his finger poised right over the ban button next to my name in Canespace Central, so I have learned to tread lightly on some subjects

MIA Chi Cane ‘98

Didn’t Miami already hire a current DC? How’d that turn out???

thirstybuzzardcane

Current players are very happy about the hire! -per twitter

DeeCane

This is a food hire fellas..Hear me out

Oregon did the same thing with Cristobal when Taggart left, Diaz is the best man for the job as was Mario for Oregon... he knws what it takes to win at Miami and will bring in good coaches to succeed... this is Mannys dream job..he aint leaving so he will do everything to make this work....Cristobal would have been a tough hire with the buyout and Phil Knight possibly goin to outbid us for Marios services..we are in good hands and he will clean house except for maybe Jess, Dugans, Rumph and Hartley... we in good hands guys

nemo2002

UM used to use the slogan "pipeline to the pros" to recruit football players.
Temple ought to use the slogan "pipeline to the Power Five" to recruit football coaches.

thirstybuzzardcane

👆👆👆 ticket renewal

thirstybuzzardcane

I'm still leaving my renewal package on my desk until I see who the OC and the other offensive coaches are.

thirstybuzzardcane

Solar, i don't care what Soup says about you, but your the best on this blog! You make me LOL!!!

Gin & Tonic

Va Cane should be the next muted blogger:

Old ass hillbilly wanna be coach.

MIA Chi Cane ‘98

My concern is nothing is going to change. (Same coordinators) Only difference is manny will be calling shots.

If you were traveling all day and missed the news basically nothing has changed.

nemo2002

"Stupid is as stupid does."

VA Cane

I saw my first game in the OB in the fall of 1969....and loved the OB....the team....the atmosphere....the great great years.....49 years and this is the swansong?
My God this program is like Rome.....Dynasty Done Forever!!!!!!
This is communism......

solarcane

Another thing in our favor Diaz knows exactly how good or bad our quarterbacks really are.

The shock is wearing off and the ringing in my ears is calming, I'm going to try and see what positive things happen the next couple weeks.

VA Cane

This program is truly Broken Beyond Repair......it is time to drop football I really think so......there is no rhyme or reason to the BOT and AD......and it is so unfair to these kids.....this is all wrong....nothing personal against MD....but this is not right!!!

Daddeh

DaU

JaxCane

I preferred Mario or someone other than a first time head coach but we can look at it this way, had Mark stayed Every Cane fan in America knew he had to hire an offensive coordinator this upcoming season. With Mark now gone and manny back the defense can somewhat stay in tact and Manny will bring in a new coordinator...Now who would that be let's find out.. He has to rid himself of Searles from the get go....I'm assuming he will allow his coordinator have say in the o-line coach hiring. Who he fires on the offensive side of the ball will tell you what he really thought about Mark's offense ...I'm not opposed to his high risk high reward style of defense as long as we can put up points on offense....

Gin & Tonic

As a Cuban-American this is awesome. Diaz is more 305 than Butch “Cleveland Davis” ever could be.

Screw all u fake ass fans.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Blake & Manny are close friends. Miami is just a friends and family jobs program.

$Temple

Temple got screwed bad in this deal

Posted by: solarcane | December 30, 2018 at 11:24 PM

How so? Cost Miami $4M buy out from what I heard. That’s free cash money for the cost of a flight and hotel.

solarcane

Diaz has some fire to him so that is a big plus over Richt

Lets see what the staff looks like

I hope to hell Diaz isn't afraid to hurt peoples feelings

TruCane81

Solar for the win!

solarcane

Today was like hitting the lottery then losing the ticket

CoCane

I didn't post after the news of Richt's retirement because it was too good to be true. I didn't trust Flake James to make a well thought out hire. He shook the tree but didn't wait to see what candidates fell from it. He rushed it. 🙁

Hopefully it works out...

solarcane

Temple got screwed bad in this deal

TruCane81

Meant to star that f bomb.

Sorry. Not thinking straight right now.

MIA Chi Cane ‘98

There is a reason Miami is not relavant anymore and it is because of these dumb decisions. I think Miami is trying to be the smartest person in the room.

They just don’t get it...

Did they hire Diaz to save the 69th best recruiting class in the country?

For Manny’s sake I hope it works out. But we will be taking about a new HC two years from now.

solarcane

Richt probably told Diaz sometime in the 4th qtr of the bowl he was quitting, this smells of rotten fish to me.

TruCane81

This is just short of comical.

No Soup, it’s fuckin hilarious.

Laughing stock of cfb.

Here’s to Manny making me pull out some more crow casserole. Hate the smell of what’s cooking right now.

WWIN

We couldn't even "let this thing play out" a couple days, weeks... or years like we like to do???

SOUP

News coming out at 11 PM on Sunday night? Seems very odd don't you think?

Journeyman dc who just hit his stride with a TON left to prove.

Greenhorn learning on the job.

So much can go wrong.

Admin can’t see past the tip of their noses.

How did these people get where they are making these panic decisions?

Wondering if everything I read about how smart rich people are is just a bunch of nonsense.

solarcane

Richt, James and Diaz think we are to stupid to see a setup

SOUP

This is just short of comical.

SOUP

What does Temple think?

WWIN

Richt ‘“retires”
Diaz is hired as HC

Just wow. Lol

Yes it's truly the end of times 🤧🤧🤧😭😭😭

solarcane

"Miami is home. The University of Miami is home. The U has truly been 'the job' for me since I first got into coaching," said Diaz in a school release. "Having worked here over the past three years, I came to understand what it means to be part of 'The U' and came to appreciate the passion and commitment to excellence of all who proudly call themselves Canes. We will restore the football program to its place among the nation's elite and we will do it with hard work, dedicated coaches, and outstanding student-athletes. I'm excited about working with Blake and his team to make that happen."

Diaz said he "never saw this [opportunity] coming" with Miami, and he woke up Sunday "actively engaged" in his work with Temple football.

Added athletic director Blake James: "Manny is one of the nation's elite coaches and the Canes' Family has already embraced him and his incredible work ethic over the past three years. He is absolutely the passionate and innovative leader that our program needs, and we will work together to build an incredible staff to move our program back into championship contention."

Prior to his tenure at Miami, Diaz served as defensive coordinator at Mississippi State (twice), Louisiana Tech, Texas, and Middle Tennessee State. He attended Florida State and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Seminoles in 1998.

While the move will be a devastating blow to Temple, many can view the decision to persuade Diaz back to Miami in such quick fashion as a necessity given his work with the Hurricanes defense as well as on the recruiting trail.

Miami disappointed in 2018, but the defensive side of the ball may have been the lone bright spot. Diaz's unit ranked second in total defense (268.3 yards per game) and first in passing defense (140.8 YPG). The Miami native also was a master at navigating himself around the loaded Florida recruiting trail, and the ramifications of his loss were evident this past early signing period as the Hurricanes heavily disappointed with its 2019 class.

nemo2002

Are you MUTHA PHU&*IN# KIDDING me... Manny Diaz has ZERO HC experience and he's a reject at DC!

#2 Defense was all smoke and mirrors!

10:51 Absolutely correct!
10:52 Good thinking!

SOUP

Seriously? This is what you do? We will be the laughing stock of the college football world. Oh wait, we already are.

VA Cane

Now I like Manny and the D, but this is not a relentless serach for a HC? How can this AD and BOT even think this acceptable.

This is just not right......hey solar.....that Clemson paw you spoke of......looking bigger and more inviting huhy?
Young coach, great D.....Top 5 regular......what ya think?!!

TruCane81

I don’t see these guys stopping the recruiting bleeding.

Hopefully it ain’t a complete disaster.

Same D staff.

Big 12 style O.

We will win some games. Would have liked a better recruiter.

Blake James is........ no words.

TonyCane

I’m like you...baffled at how quick a hire this is. To quote Grand Moff Tarkin, “You’re taking an awful risk, Lord James. This had better work.”

Short term potential benefits:
1) Juniors on defense stay?
2) Manny has good S Florida relations with HS coaches?
3) Charisma

Risks:
1) Has to hire a PRIME offensive coordinator

solarcane

Didn't we have a Temple head coach once before

Dude on a Pale Horse

WWIN,

It's over man. We can watch the staff hires, but its over.

CGNC

Raize lol. I like the turnover chain but...this feels like a knee jerk reaction. They may already have an OC waiting. Who knows. Good night all

TruCane81

It’s official.

This is all on purpose.

The powers declared Miami will never be dominant again and are self sabotaging to create that reality.

So can he recruit a team that don’t get pushed around on the line?

Cause we didn’t even bother to interview proven guys who can.....

TruCane81

SMH.

Just can’t get right.

First thought was, “Yay!” Then I took a beat and thought, as bad as an OC as he was, he DID leave us in a better situation than when he arrived. And he was a Class Act... No passion or killer instinct though. As an old timer myself, who is retiring after 39 years of teaching high school this year, I can relate to the loss of passion for the “grind.” However, I would have been ok with him staying, if he would have hired a dynamic OC, new QB and OL coach.

Go Canes!!

And there it is.

Ridiculous and so absurdly premature:

Go Canes!!

I agree they should be banned for a week.

Babers, Riley, Briles, Heupel, Kingsbury, etc. all have links to Mike Leach. They are either former assistants or players. The common thread is that none of their teams have a lick of defense. So no thanks to that BS. Plus, I don't think he can recruit S. Florida and the rest of the south. Neal Brown is one guy that is very interesting. He's had Troy rolling and beaten LSU and NB. He's young (38) and has coached a lot. Outside of his connection to Leach I don't see why he shouldn't get a look :-) Could get a good 5 years out of him before he bolts to the NFL. That's what all great Cane coaches do...

Dude on a Pale Horse

How did I miss that post by Solar? That's funny and true as hell.

solarcane

Roach wat up?
What was your first thought about Richt leaving?

roachcane77

It will take a minute for us to start second guessing every single decision he makes, pick out a nifty downgrading nickname for him,
question why guys we never saw do anything at the college level are not starting.
Suggest a dozen guys that could coach every position better.
We have our work cut out for us, but I think with a little effort and a shot of mob mentality we can soldier on.

Go,
This I Have to give you about Leach recruiting

When Gardner Minshew interviewed with Leach he said Leach never said one word about football, they talked his whole visit about architecture.

Then Minshew said, I gotta play for this guy, and went out and led the nation in passing

Who really knows what kids want recruiters to tell them besides they will start as freshmen and be millionaires at 22 ?

Dude on a Pale Horse

Whoever the coach is, I want a f*cking elite staff.

MLAlumni1970

Don't fight. Sleep well tonight. We will know more tomorrow.

Go Canes!!

I’m a hard pass on Leach.

I don’t trust him to recruit with any enthusiasm. He’s flat out said he doesn’t like or try too hard.

Tou obviously need great assistants to do the bulk of the recruit, but elite coaches are great closers in crunch time. He’s openly arrogant about having to waste his time doing things like that.

Imo you’re not going to load up your roster with elite kids with that mindset.
