We should all just copy this put our name on the bottom and post it as something we needed to say about twice a week year in year out, me included.

I’m never wrong, I know so much because I was alive when JJ coached, I’m a bad azz that doesn’t tolerate losing, I was a bad azz in high school, and I still jazzercise to this day OPINIONS.

What about Charlie Weiss, Jr? Been with Kiffin since Bama worked for his pops at Kansas and has been around the Patriots...

Bring him on as a Quarterbacks Coach at the least no?

OC hire will be the biggest hiring for us....

Dude on a Pale Horse

WW,

I agree the defense isnt elite. Its an elite scheme, but isnt elite in talent. The LBs (Mannys unit) is fat bodied and out of shape. The DL is getting close, but lacks elite depth. The 2ndary has goid starters but also lacks depth. If Manny is gonna work out, dude needs to start crooting way more talent every year, even on his side of the ball. Saban, Dabo, Kirky... these guys are not f*cking around... 4 or 5 5*s in a single class per year.

The defense had ONE job to do vs Wisconsin... stop the RUN! And they couldn't do it!

The linebackers were the worst coached unit on defense... bad in coverage... bad gap integrity... couldn't tackle. Who coached those guys???

I'm hoping Richt has a change of heart, has an epiphany and head coaches at Temple.

WWIN, i was at the game man and the LBS were gassed they had to fight Olineman, fullbacks, and tightends over and over, breaks? no breaks Richt and Rozier kept putting them in...

Go. Canes!!

It’s not as easy as saying just stop the run. We had turnover after turnover after turnover leaving the defense in an impossible position over and over and over.

Keeping the sxore 14-3 at halftime was a great job by the defense.

We didn’t bend over. After yet another gift TD from Rosier on our first drive they didn’t score again until 3 minutes left in the third quarter and that TD came after yet another pick that gave them the back the ball on their side of the field yet again.

I’m still on the fence on Diaz, we’ll see what he does with the offense. But there is no hire that will keep kids from going to Bama, UGA or Clemson.

Our goal should be to find a guy who maximizes the productivity of the guys we sign every year.

At this point, that's what we have to do. That's what Briles did at Baylor. And that's exactly what Dabo did at Clemson. He didn't start to outrecruit Miami until two or three seasons ago.

Technically, on paper the Tigers and Hurricanes were on par in terms of talent when they met up in 2015.

Dude on a Pale Horse

God d@mn it man... this wasnt a sh*tty dream...

Maybe this guy is the next Dabo...

All I care about is recruiting and staff hires... I hope this MFer can close. Need Bogle, Stevenson, Dent, Sorrells, Sanguinetti and a slew of players on O.

Worst hire I've seen since Perry Clark, absolute $h!t show.

raizecane

Those who say Miami D dint play well against Whisky clearly lacks knowledge of the game. Miami's defense was on the field for 40 minutes against the best RB in the country and got no support from our offense......NONE!!! Drops mic.....

BigWindyCane

I agree with Jax and Solar. Diaz has the potential to be a great hire. Let’s wait and see who he hires as OC and OL coach, and what recruits and transfers he brings in January-February.

The excitement we hear from current and former Canes players as well as recruits is exactly what we would want to hear at this stage. This is all a good sign.

I am worried about the five star recruits who leave South Florida, but I am probably more concerned about the 3-4 stars who never get offered, and three years later become high NFL draft picks. Butch could recruit regardless of star ranking, and the Canes need to get better at that too

Sarasota 'cane

Miami's defense has been one of the few bright spots under Coach Richt. That's just a fact. Diaz has my support until he doesn't.

Let's see who he hires and go from there. What choice do we have? You may not attend games to protest the hire, but everyone on this blog will always be a Hurricane fan, win, lose, or draw.

I am not crazy over how this played out; I expected a real comprehensive search. It was not.

However it cannot be changed now. I am disappointed in BOT, AD, but not Manny. Will back him.
I do not want to see MD try to call all the D; develop a DC. I want him to find a very strong young aggressive OC.....He needs to oversee the program.
We have to ride the wave.....its very small right now but lets hope for better days.

The more i read about how unpopular this choice is from canespace members, the more I think we will be just fine :-)

Posted by: raizecane | December 31, 2018 at 09:16 AM

Wise guy. Since you have decided to join the spin master's club you can have it anyway you like it I guess. You can say:

"Diaz is a good DC."

"Diaz is familiar to UM admin."

"Diaz knows what needs to be fixed."

"Diaz is a good fit at UM."

"Diaz was an easy choice."

What you CAN'T say is that Diaz was the most highly QUALIFIED candidate available or the BEST candidate for the job.

We will see what moves he makes on BOTH sides of the ball and ST and the strength and conditioning program, etc. THEN we will know more of the direction of the team.

Then we will wait to see how the team performs over the same three year period that Richt got. Don't go all "Go Canes" on us and ask for FIVE years to get this right. The program is in SIGNFICANTLY better shape than when Richt walked in three years ago. Of that there is no debate.

Three years.

Ready?

Set?

Go!

Posted by: SOUP | December 31, 2018 at 02:48 PM

Coker only did that because despite the national championship appearances, despite his offensive background, he somehow could not recruit wide receivers to the Hurricanes.

2002: Akeem Jolla, Ryan Moore Sinorice Moss
2003: Darnell Kenkins
2004: Lance Leggett
2005: None
2006: Sam Shields, George Robinson

Five recruiting classes, seven wide receivers total. That's why Monroe and Hill were converted to wide receivers. That's why UM averaged around 20-21 points a game in 2006 and 2007. That's why we'll never know if Kyle Wright was actually a legitimate quarterback, because we had an offense whose skillset was more attuned to a Paul Johnson offense.

roachcane77

Again, just as if Richt had remained...its all contingent upon the offense. Many people here said that Diaz left for Temple out of frustration...clearly he knows what is broken.

The OC hire.

The Offensive assistants.

Special Teams Coach.

Strength and Conditioning Coach (Under Golden we were too bulked up, fat and slow and now we look thin and weak at several positions).

Recruiting on both sides of the ball this year and next. Get talent, fill gaps, build depth.

Must get HIS QB in recruiting this year or next (after the OC is hired of course).

Beat the Gators in 2019 opener.

That's the short list.

SOUP

JaxCane...my point above is this: Until we get the coach that several of the BIG schools want we will just be an also ran. The same way it is said that you can't win today without a really good QB it can be said that you can't win without a really good coach.

Nobody was after Randy Shannon as a head coach when UM picked him.

Nobody wanted Golden when we "stole" him from lowly Temple.

Richt was booted from Georgia before we pulled him out of the trash heap to try to resurrect his career.

Only Temple wanted and hired Manny Diaz.

It is simple really: Until we get "That Guy" at QB and Head Coach we will be an also ran.

Don't get me wrong, we ALL want every coach at UM to succeed, including and especially now Manny Diaz. I am just not going to invest $2000 this year to see IF it is going to happen. I'll watch most games at home and maybe even go to an away game in NC in October to make a 5 day vacation trip out of it and go explore Tennessee while I am at it.

I will go to the opening game against the Gators in Orlando because it is close to where I live. After that, it will be a game by game experiment for me in 2019.

It's hard to say. He was OC for Texas during Mack Brown's final year. Texas went from an average of 36 points a game under Bryan Harsin in 2012 to 29 points under Applewhite in 2013.

One difference between Harsin and Applewhite is that Major lost his starting quarterback David Ash in game 2, whereas Harsin had him for the entire season. The backups in 2013 (Case McCoy and Tyrone Swoops) were not as versatile as Ash.

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
How the Hurricanes’ bizarre week went down and ended with Manny Diaz as Miami’s coach
BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN

DECEMBER 31, 2018 04:33 PM

Play Video
Duration 1:11

The past week for the University of Miami football program has been wild enough to fill a full-length movie and have theatergoers refilling their popcorn as they await the sequel. We even could rate it R — children under 17 require an accompanying parent or adult guardian — as nudity and a sex scene were part of the buildup.

A little more than an hour before the clock struck midnight on Sunday, the university announced it had named former UM defensive coordinator Manny Diaz the new head football coach of the Miami Hurricanes, just 10 hours after coach Mark Richt unexpectedly announced his retirement. Diaz, who has a five-year UM contract, had already become the head coach at Temple University on Dec. 13. He returned to coach the Hurricanes in the Pinstripe Bowl, the game that Canes fans everywhere would like to forget.

So, how did this all happen in such a short amount of time? What might have we forgotten in the midst of such disarray? Here’s a general timeline for those shaking their heads and wondering how we got to where we are:

▪ Wednesday, Dec. 26, the day before the Pinstripe Bowl against Wisconsin at Yankee Stadium:

Bowl officials have their official pregame head coaches’ news conference for Miami’s Richt and Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst.

Chryst is asked football-specific questions. Richt is asked about who will start at quarterback, if N’Kosi Perry was suspended for a video he posted on the social media platform Snapchat of two people having sex, and if freshman quarterback Jarren Williams will get his first playing time since the second game of the season.

After saying senior Malik Rosier will start in place of Perry, Richt says Perry has not been suspended for the video, just “educated’’ on the danger of social media.

▪ Thursday, Dec. 27, game day for the Pinstripe at Yankee Stadium.

Perry is dressed in uniform and warming up with the others, to the surprise of some who believed he actually was suspended and wouldn’t play.

Rosier throws three interceptions and Perry adds another as the Canes put on a dismal performance in the 35-3 Badgers victory.

Williams never gets in the game.

A pale, sullen Richt looks crushed after the loss, taking responsibility for the defeat. “Starts with me, for sure,’’ he said. “Really, that’s where the buck stops. Head football coach, play-caller, the whole bit. Just a poor job by me.’’

Players on offense and defense concede there are internal issues and some dissension in the locker room after a trying season.

An hour and a half after the game, UM athletic director Blake James posts on Twitter: “Our football team’s performance tonight— and at other times this season — is simply unacceptable to all of us who love the U.’’ James says in tweet that he is “committed to getting UM Football back to national prominence and that process is underway...I know that Coach Richt is alongside me in that commitment to excellence.’’

▪ Friday, Dec. 28, the day after loss.

Social media is on fire with fans slamming Richt and the players, many calling for his firing and some suggesting it’s time for him to retire.

A college football recruiting site posts on a message board that quarterback Williams is close to transferring after not being put in the bowl.

▪ Saturday, Dec. 29, game day at the Capital One Orange Bowl.

No. 1 Alabama defeats No. 4 Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff Semifinal on the Hurricanes’ home field at Hard Rock Stadium. It’s all quiet on the Canes’ front — the calm before the storm.

▪ Sunday, Dec. 30, a day of supposed rest before New Year’s Eve.

Richt, 58, announces his retirement at 12:45 p.m. in a heartfelt letter to the UM community.

“The University of Miami has been a part of my life for more than three decades,’’ Richt wrote. “It shaped me as a young man and provided me with the coaching opportunity of a lifetime. My love for The U is simply great. My true desire is for our football program to return to greatness, and while terribly difficult, I feel that stepping down is in the best interests of the program.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to the entire Hurricane Family for welcoming me back home and for supporting the outstanding young men in our program. I only wish that we could have achieved greater things in return.

“Katharyn and I will be cheering on the Canes in the years to come, and The U will never leave our hearts.’’

At 1:21 p.m, the mother of UM junior star running back Travis Homer posts on Twitter that he has signed with an agent and will enter the NFL Draft.

At 2:30 p.m., the Miami Herald notices Diaz walking outside of the Hecht Athletic Center, where AD James’ office is located.

At 3:30 p.m, James has a news conference regarding Richt’s departure and the coaching vacancy. When asked about Diaz being spotted at the Hecht, James says “Manny Diaz? I don’t have any comment on Manny. I guess Manny is on his own schedule.’’

At 10:57 p.m, Diaz, 44, one of the top defensive coaches in the nation, is announced in a press release as Miami football’s new head coach. Diaz, who grew up in Miami, said in the release that “as excited as I am about staying home, I hate the way this unfolded with respect to Temple. I was given a tremendous opportunity to lead the Temple program and I was actively engaged in doing just that when I woke up this morning. I never saw this coming. No one did.’’

At 11:11 p.m., Temple athletic director Dr. Patrick Kraft posts on social media: “This evening, head football coach Manny Diaz called to inform me that he has accepted the new head coaching position back at the University of Miami. We are disappointed that he is leaving, but wish hi the best as he returns home. We have already launched a national search for a new head football coach...’’

Monday, Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve.

Diaz makes his first live public statements on WQAM radio, the flagship station of the Hurricanes, at 8 a.m.

“What did I miss?’’ Diaz jokes. “It’s just been wild. There’s no other way to explain it. ...It’s something where you wake up a day later and you’re like, ‘Did that really happen?’ You almost have to turn on the computer and check the Internet to make sure it was real.’’

Diaz is asked at the end of the interview if he has thought about the 2019 UM opener in Orlando against the Florida Gators, who are coached by Dan Mullen, Diaz’s former boss at Mississippi State.

Coach Diaz is our Head coach now. Not sure how good he is going to be, but I know he is a energetic get after it type of person. You could see it on the side lines, getting involved with the players whether the play was great or bad. Totally opposite
of his head coach. He knows what needs to be done,we all agree on that. He's our Head Coach let's give him a chance, stop picking him to death.
Let start backing him, help him out by saying something positive, we all know the recruits read this blog. Some of you sure aren't helping hem out right now and we know he needs all the help he can get. Lets see what he can do, who he picks for coaches and how many recruits he can save this year. Most important let's wait and see what kind of start he can produce in the first half of 2019.
He will not be any better than the coaches he surrounds himself with. If can't pick his coaching team then he will fail.If he fails then let's give the BOT and James what they deserve.

Go Canes!!

Cager transferring:

Miami WR Lawrence Cager, who was the Canes’ 2nd-leading receiver & had a team-high 6 TDs, is transferring, a source told @WatchStadium. Cager, who had 18 career starts, will be a grad transfer & eligible at his new school next season

Go Canes!!

Since this got no response the first time, let's try this again? Who was the last guy we got from Temple? What was his name?

I’d have gladly taken Matt Rhule who got his start at Temple before moving on to Baylor.

Dude is a hell of a coach.

Diaz like Larry Fedora for OC

BigWindyCane

You add a few 3*s that will be bumped to 4*s and we are golden.

Sounds like a great recruiting class, the kind the Canes should expect year-in, year-out. The Canes still have a chance to get a few more commits on board before NSD

If DIAZ axed the entire offensive staff, that takes guts. Maybe, the new OC will have a clean slate so he can implement his own ideas about what a coaching staff should look like.

Not disappointed to see Cager go

Wow the entire offensive staff gone, it looks like Manny Corleone came out of the toilet holding more than his d___ in his hand.
