Mario Cristobal and Butch won at FIU. Which tells me they will be fine at Miami. Venables would seems legit. However my gut tells me if we went with Kiffen his personality might be fun but it wouldn't be long before the NCAA comes knocking. I could be wrong it's just a feeling.
I love how the talk romantizes every other coach and team after we loose. Listen to your selves. There’s one thing I will be forever thankful to Richt for; he brought back the culture of our defense. At least we only have one headache. Oh yeah! We also have an IPF.
First off, a word of thanks to Mark Richt. The program was in a putrid state when he took over. Issues with the offense aside, he improved recruiting and his defensive hires developed the talent that we had and took a no-defense unit and made it top caliber.
Richt got a lot of crap here and elsewhere to the point where he had morphed into a malevolent entity who was motivated only by his own needs. He just proved that to not be the case.
CMR is a good man and improved the program. But he was just tired and burned out. You could see it on his face and in his mannerisms. Took the gig out of obligation and I respect that. Look to the NFL for the replacement. A up and coming QB coach or coordinator. They say Venables doesn't want to be a HC..let's find out. He's young and seems like a college liver...

Jeff Thomas kicking himself in the ass
Posted by: solarcane | December 30, 2018 at 02:19 PM
I wonder how this effects recruiting in the next two months? Specifically, Hasselwood, Stevenson, et al?
And I wonder how Jeff Thomas now feels, now that he's transferred to the sunny confines of Illinois.

An important attribute of a good leader is knowing when it is time to step aside so others can lead.

OH MY GOD!

I caught hell suggesting Richt would hang it up on his own accord.
But that look he had was undeniable.
All criticism aside I wish him well and thank him for his effort.
He did some good things, just didn’t have what it took to go where we want.
No shame. He been in this game a long time and needs an obvious break, if not a new life path altogether.
He had the integrity to step away with some dignity and led us to our best season in over a decade. Wasn’t a success, but not a failure either.
Could have been better, could have been worse.
Wishing Coach Richt the best as he moves on with his life.

We need to hire quickly. Shaq and Pickney might stay if it's a home run hire! And plus we need to end recruiting with a bang!
Butch is the only guy that makes sense right now!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | December 30, 2018 at 01:42 PM
Three year deal?
HCIW?
Is it foolish to think Butch has five years in him? I don’t think so. But three years of high energy work could be HUGE for us.
There are a lot of unknown candidates that could do well. I think maybe let Butch hire an up and coming coordinator to groom.
I think the Kiffen as oc and hciw could work. Lots of options.
I just want a strong recruiter and innovative oc. Let the defense play aggressive man and they will be ok.
This got my brain spinning.
WOW!

One final thing on CMR.
The guy is a total class act.
Wish him all the best and happy he got out when he thought it was time.
Much respect.
