Naw what is hysterical is Butch only having 1 10 win season in 12 years of being a Division 1 Football Coach and yall making him out to be Nick, Dabo, Urban, Jimbo, Richt. etc. I see none of you could retort my point because its facts so you change the subject I just lol but I call a spade a spade sorry it does not fit your argument but that's your problem playa not mine. Lmbao at hatred of Butch I said he was a 5 star recruiter but horrible game day coach. That's some major hating going on or facts. Weak Sauce Hoss! lmbao again at he had a elite Defense but only went 4-8 in 2007, 8-5 in 2008, 8-5 in 2009, 8-5 in 2010, so what you are pissing and moaning about from our team this season is no different than what you are excusing from Butch teams at UNC. Pure Freaking Comedy. But hey man have at it if it makes sleep better at night lol.

Regardless of what "The Solution" is or may be, NOBODY, well except maybe Go Canes, is happy right now, so ANYTHING seems better than just maintaining the status quo. This says it all right here:
The future gets dimmer by the minute as long as Richt keeps himself as OC, his son as QB coach, Searles as OL coach and Beagles as punter.

We got probs on Dee. Even Rumph and Banda, whom most everyone had questions about have been good. Jackson and Redwine have really improved since those 2 have been their and of course Johnson and Banfy as well. The only question are they ever going g to be elite closers on the recruiting trail.
Posted by: Herbieibis | December 05, 2018 at 11:22 AM
I will say this about Searles, no telling how good he is or isn't because of how inaccurate our QB'S are and only having one OTackle on the entire roster BUT obviously he is no elite recruiter much less a closer.

That should say we have no probs on Dee.

Butch Davis is Mack Brown. A good coach and a fanastic recruiter. He’s not The Pirate or the Nebraska coach, who are scheming masterminds. Davis simply accumulated enough talent to overwhelm you.
To be fair, we only saw a limited glimpse of Davis’ true potential. Sanctions prevented him from building his ideal team until 2000, and then he left for the NFL. It took four seasons to build UNC into a power, and then an academic scandal ruined the season. Now at age 67 he’s starting over at FIU. It’s not a Power 5 school and he will be unable to build a talent roster that is close to what UNC or Miami we’re when he left

LOL Solar! Well because Mack Brown is a better coach than Butch Davis the End! The Truth is a mutha sucker!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 04, 2018 at 05:30 PM
Solar, LOL how do we KNOW they didn't? Besides, they fired him due to their money and academic scandal - said originally he was ok, and then the NCAA was investigating the academic scandal and someone's head had to roll. The academic scandal BTW had been going on since the days of Julius Peppers. Some kind of fake class that didn't exist so that they could get an "A" if I remember. The real kicker is that the school did not get punished because these "paper" classes were available to anyone, not just athletes. Ironic, huh?
Terrance -I have to disagree with you there. Sometimes life takes people on different paths. Mack Brown "resigned" in 2013 from Texas after 4 very sub-par seasons starting in 2010. I wouldn't say he is better. Had Butch stayed at the U the same length of time that Mack Brown had at Texas (1998-2013 for Brown) - how many NC's would he/we have? How many more would have been played for?
I will say this also: Had Butch been hired back here instead of Pastor Richt, he would not have hired his @%~!&% son as QB coach.
These are the days of our lives......:-)

Terrance - if that is the set of facts (wins/losses) that you like, then go with it my friend. Personally, I don't think Mack Brown OR CMR and his empanada eating self are better than Butch, despite what the wins/losses show you. But that is me.
Richt - LOL - 10 - 10-win seasons in 18 years - ok. Ask any UGA fan if they miss him....

I guess I will always have a bad taste about Butch because of how he lied by omission to Dorsey and his guys when he left for the money.
In classic blog mob rule fashion, I jumped in with Sully because he was able to cut Davis down and book cabins and stuff at the Same time, impressing me greatly and leading me to the Dark Side.

Simpson was my LOF Coach. I really sung his praises after watching him work at summer camps. He is better than Coach Kul, and he will develop players more. I also think Simpson will be a DC one day, and maybe even a HC. I think his players love playing for him, and they want to please him when they are performing out on the field.

Oh man am I going out on a limb now... I don’t recall, in some 10+ YEARS of CANE blogging with CGNC, EVER disagreeing with her or even simply NOT being dazzled by her brilliant way of cutting to the chase & telling it like it is. BUT.....
Texas hadn’t won a NC since 1970 before Mack won it in 2005. UT did sniff one in ‘77 and again in ‘83, but lost the Cotton Bowl both times. In ‘83 they were ranked #2 and the day game loss was one of 2 boulders that had to first fall to set up our hometown CANE hero’s to lay claim to the prize. That’s 25 years between NC’s. Mack had Tejas back in the NC in ‘09 but a game ending injury to Colt McCoy perhaps didn’t seal the win for Sabans Ala but was a very significant factor.
So Mack truly resurrected a zombie program from a quarter century of irrelevance or big game failure. He won a NC and played for another. I do love Butch all sarcasm aside but the records are clear. What Butch might have or could have done is impossible to know. I actually believe Mack underperformed as a HC given his recruiting success. He “should” have more Conf titles and at least one more NC.

He was a CEO coach that could seriously recruit. When he had excellent X’s & O’s coordinators, he won big. When he didn’t, his teams lost games they shouldn’t have. The last few years were a cluster. Agree with U about Stoops... 98/99 to mid-00 Stoops was a boss.

Posted by: WWIN | December 05, 2018 at 10:31 PM
Mack Brown won his NC because of Vince Young. He needed a superlative talent to get over the top. The rest of his teams makeup did not vary that much between 2002 - 2012. It was that unstoppable player in Young that took the Longhorns to the title. It wasn’t schemes...I live here and the fans were no happy with him and his OC between 2000-2005.
Brown also lucked into Colt McCoy. Colt was signed as an afterthought, but was never intended to be the starter. Jevon Snead was the highly rated recruit, but 3-Star Colt proves better in summer practices. Brown was still going to go with Snead, but members of the team went to Brown and urged him to go with Colt. And he did. Colt was a very smart, very good QB for the Longhorns and you can make a strong case that UT would have beaten Alabama in 2009 if not for Colts injury (Alabama was not nearly as stacked ten years ago).
So with Vince and Colt, from 2004-2009 Mack had NFL quarterbacks. After, Mack whiffed on QBs. Garett Gilbert did not work out. The OC was fired, and UT went away from the spread to a pro style. That further negated Gilbert - he was suited for the spread - and Mack struggled to replace him. After several mediocre seasons recruiting finally began to take a downturn. LSU and a resurgent Baylor we’re now contesting for the recruits that Brown had easily gotten in the past.
Posted by: TonyCane | December 05, 2018 at 10:32 PM
Tru, between 2000 and 2010 Mack really had the state of Texas to himself. His only real rival for talent was OU. From 2010 onward, he had to contend with LSU, Baylor, and Alabama competing for the best Texas players...all at a time when his teams had taken a step back.
Mack might still be coach if he had brought in Johnny Manziel or Andrew Luck instead of passing on them.
