The Miami Hurricanes are headed to New York City for a rematch against last year's bowl opponent, the Wisconsin Badgers.
"I'm looking forward to it," senior Jaquan Johnson said. "I've never been to New York before so it's going to be quite the experience. My family is going to go up there. I'm looking forward to the rematch with Wisconsin. I know those guys are fired up again to be playing against us, looking forward to opportunity."
The two teams will meet in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. For many Canes, it will be their first trip to The Big Apple, but every Cane is looking forward to the opportunity to play in one of the most famous venues in sports.
"It's the second time for me going to New York," senior defensive back Sheldrick Redwine said. "I went to New York a couple years ago when I was younger, but that'll be a great experience playing in Yankee Stadium. That'll be a great experience."
As part of that experience, the Canes and Badgers will be playing in some chilly temperatures. But Miami's players are confident they are ready to face Wisconsin in any weather.
"Playing in the cold is not so much of a factor like people think it is," senior Tyree St. Louis said. "Once you get started, once you get moving around and active on the field, you'll forget you're even cold because you're still playing the game."
With temperatures expected in the thirties, Miami's players are mentally prepared to play the Badgers in cold weather. In fact, the game day forecast has some Canes are dreaming of a white Christmas.
"I like it. I hope it snows," sophomore wide receiver Mike Harley said. "But at the same time it's a mental thing. We're mentally tough now. We played four away games in the cold so we're used to it. It's no big deal."
No matter what the weather is, the Canes are motivated to avenge their 34-24 loss in last year's Capitol One Orange Bowl and UM's veterans are pushing their teammates to make sure Miami comes out with a victory this time.
"It's mainly just that team beat us last year in our home in a big time bowl game in a great season that we had," St. Louis said. "That was just kind of upsetting. We didn't do what we needed to do last year and we're not going to let that happen again."
The senior leaders on the 2018 Hurricanes roster have already begun setting the tone for this season's bowl game.
"Any time we take the field, we think it's a championship game," Johnson said. "We know everybody is going to give that championship effort. When we scrimmage each other, we're fired up so definitely when we get to play another team we're going to be fired up."
Redwine echoed his fellow safety's sentiments and knows every players wearing a U on his helmet will be giving his best effort when the game kicks off on Dec. 27 at 5:15 p.m.
"We're fired up to play football," Redwine said. "It's another opportunity for me to come out here and play football with my teammates. It could've been the National Championship and we're going to approach it the same or it could've been a regular season game playing against a high school team. We're always going to be fired up."
Many of Miami's seniors are top pro prospects, but they are all relishing the opportunity to wear a Hurricane uniform one final time.
"I came back to play this final game with my brothers," Johnson said. "I mean any chance I get to play football, I'm going to take full advantage."
"We're all excited to be back on the football field doing what we love and now getting a rematch against a team we should've beat last year," St. Louis said.
In addition to finishing the 2018 season on a high note, Miami's players know what a win over Wisconsin would mean heading into next season.
"Everyone remembers when you win a bowl game," Harley said. "It's the last game. This game will give us a little hype, a little respect for next year and get us ready for next year. We're taking this bowl game seriously like it's a national championship."
"Next year is going to be a way better year than what this year was," sophomore running back DeeJay Dallas said. "I mean, we came into this season with high expectations and it didn't go how we wanted it to go. So, bounce back year. Revenge tour starts next week. So, I'm excited. We start next season off with Wisconsin, so that is how I am feeling about this."

So we should have spent the indoor facility money on stationary bikes, parachutes and big ass tires?
We end up with no lineman that can block, but all of them finish on the podium in a 5k bike race.

Thanks solar I love that you are back here....you are a Cane who really executes fundamentals!!!!!
I try not to be harsh....but try to be fair....it has been a tough 15 years....I thought maybe last year we were not back....but progressing nicely....but this year it really took a U turn...no pun there...we are still irrelevant and nowhere near back....I say 15 years.....but 03 we were 11-2 not bad 04 05 9-3...slipping....06 7-6.....the curse of stomping on the Ville logo....still the teams from 03 on were never really challenging anybody.....bad football that has been very iffy since then....Ok all 4 Horsemen of the Miami Apocalypse have won 62.3% of their games....iffy is a nice word....thats not our standard at all!!!

If I’m Blake James and Perry is suspenses, If Weldon and Williams don’t see 90% of the offensive plays, I fire richt after the game win or lose (and yes I’m being kind and allowing rosier a series or 2 max)

Remember when Toledo was 20 points up on us? Butch been at fiu one year and he score 35 points. We can't keep our qb recruits out of trouble. One thing I saw is fiu is more organized than we are They moved the ball in all 4 qs

Wow since it looks as though NO ONE really wants to say ANYTHING positive about the team or their upcoming game, guess I will!. Williams is staying, that's a HUGE POSITIVE, we're going to land some of the guys still unsigned, that's a HUGE POSITIVE, we STILL have a GREAT team (as long as CMR keeps us in the spread), that's a HUGE POSITIVE! Not sure if Perry's going to be able to play, so that's not good, but other than that, we look pretty damn GOOD! GO CANES!!!

Keep being positive!! Not a bad thing!

Said it earlier about this prick Perry. Not serious. Didn't know the play book last year. Still confused this year. This is combination of the mild manner Richy and Perry and his wanna be gangster no attitude.

This season, the new Sebastian turnover chain was nice, but I hope the Canes coaches Banda/Patke bring back the original “U” turnover chain next year. The original turnover chain design was my favorite, and all the turnover chain t-shirts look better with the original design.
I am curious if anyone else feels this way, or is it just me?
Posted by: BigWindyCane | December 21, 2018 at 05:29 PM
Perry definitely acts like a knucklehead. When a knucklehead leads your team, your team will make knucklehead plays. The only way the fans will look past those silly antics is if Perry wins games and plays at a high level.
Right now, Perry isn’t winning or playing well, so Weldon and Williams need to stay prepared because the coach and fans may lose patience with Perry.
Posted by: BigWindyCane | December 21, 2018 at 05:44 PM
I'm with the original chain
Everybody in the country knows what the U signified.
I got friends here that asked why we had a duck on the chain
Posted by: solarcane | December 21, 2018 at 05:46 PM

Windy,
Johnny Manziel was the last true knucklehead that could turn disastrous plays into big gains.
Baker Mayfield put the effort into being a knucklehead, but he didnt have the passion for fkingup up that Johnny Football was blessed with.

At one time I thought Perry was going to be really good. When he signed his tapes looked good.
Like I said you get to D1 and start playing against much better competition instead of nerds, geeks, dorks, dweebs, posers, knuckleheads, pretty boys, and wanna bes......its different.
When I played in college 76 and 77 it was still the same....better players. I had much better skills and fundamentals, but guys were already getting bigger and stronger...lot of roids around. Still I held my own for 2 years played a lot of good ball and many guys bigger than me were shocked I could play! Smarter...fundamentals....worked harder!
Perry obviously played against such folks I listed. He has not shown me a whole lot.....and that dread head of his is way up his AZZ... cause he's got Shat in his ears. Dont know plays or playbook....cannot hit an open guy....he just wants to go home and say he is at Da U!!! Rather get on social media with $....cool....show ya boys you a Poser!!! not a QB!!! Not willing to work.....no use for him cant win with him..TY Mike Singletary!
Now he has no OC or QB coach that knows much either....and his HC cannot call plays at all. So to me it is player and coaches failing....he just does not have it to play big time D1 ball....move to the next QB....he has had his chances! JMO

OK ColaCane, I'm going to join you and acknowledge that there are SOME positives coming out of Coral Gables. I'm pleased about Jalen Williams staying, for sure! Also, we MIGHT sneak in and get some late, "leftover" talent from the early signees to swing our way. However, CMR has GOT to move our 'O' into the 21st century... give Williams a chance to play and be evaluated... and use the spread with some PRE-SNAP motion... and institute it NOW!
Let's Go CANES!

Dude, TruCane and RoachCane are down for the original iconic 1.0 turnover chain and WWIN likes 2.0.
When I think of the turnover chain, I always think of the original iconic 1.0 chain. 6 1/2 pound,10 karat Cuban link chain with a blinged out U. I love it. The coaches probably won’t go back to it, but that is the iconic chain that changed college football last season

Sebastian is iconic! When I fell in love with The U in 6th grade it was all about the Ibis logo... we weren't using the U logo.
Sebastian with the pipe was badass and all I really knew about The U!
