UCF put on a good effort against LSU even IF LSU was short handed on defense. And that was without their all-star QB Milton. They scored more points on LSU than Miami and Georgia.

AeroCane

With a good OC, we will finally score points ‘with ease’! At least I’m hoping! As I said earlier - can’t wait to see what lingard, Pope, Hightower, Peyton, Jordan, Mallory and hasslewood (hope) can do in a good offense! I also believe (assuming no one comes in) that Williams or Weldon will get the job done!

solarcane

Aero
Maybe we see DJ in the wildcat and a couple post 1985 plays, perhaps a receiver that can catch two passes in a row

We really need a guy to train our qbs from here on out.
No way we should have the worst passing quarterbacks in the country

AeroCane

Dj in wildcat once in a while - fun
Agree on qbs! We need a great qb coach and mentor (Ken Dorsey!)

NAME TO KNOW AS POTENTIAL OL COACH (1/1/19 7:47 PM EST)

Should Manny Diaz end up hiring Larry Fedora to be his offensive coordinator at Miami, a name to know as a potential offensive line coach for the Hurricanes would be Chris Kapilovic, per source.

Kapilovic spent the past two seasons at North Carolina serving as Fedora's offensive coordinator. He was recently named offensive line coach at Colorado. Kapilovic recruited seven 247Sports Composite four-star offensive linemen during his time at in Chapel Hill including former Apopka Top100 tackle William Barnes.

Te Cory Couch

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – If there's one player that has raised his stock more than anyone else this week during practices for the Under Armour All-America Game it might be Miami four-star cornerback signee Te'Cory Couch.

Couch not only drew praise from Deion Sanders who called Couch a 'straight dog' on his Instagram account Tuesday, but became the talk of the hotel lobby once coaches from the annual all-star event returned from the practice fields.

"I'm not sure who is ranking him or rating him, but he should definitely be higher than wherever he is," a defensive coach for Team Ballaholics said. "He's cat quick. Real patient and real coachable. He's got ball skills, he's got great feet and he understands concepts real well."

Couch, who inked a National Letter of Intent with the Hurricanes last month during the Early Signing Period, broke up a number of passes during 1-on-1 drills and 7-on-7 play Tuesday. He also managed to jam Top100 wide receiver George Pickens at the line of scrimmage which was pretty impressive for Couch given his slender 5-9.5, 148-pound listing.

"He uses his technique very well," another coach or Team Ballaholics said. "That's the one thing we these corners that a lot of people don't realize. These kids don't trust their skills and let themselves be patient, but Te'Cory does. He knows he's fast and he will sit on routes in order to make plays."

Couch is expected to start in the secondary for Team Ballaholics on Thursday.

“I’m trying to prove that size doesn’t matter," Couch said earlier in the week. "I'm just trying to lock people down and do what I do.”

COMMENTS
Couch also recently shared his thoughts on Manny Diaz replacing Mark Richt in Coral Gables.

"That's big," Couch said. "I’m just excited that he’s coming back. In my opinion Coach Diaz was the perfect hire just looking at what Miami wants to do with the football team in the future. He just keeps it real.”

U mad bruh? I know you think that the Miami Hurricanes have been and are the only great team ever but U gotta get real buddy!

Here, let me break it down for you...

1. So if you read my comment above I already acknowledged that LSU was seriously short-handed on defense so I was well aware of that. Can U please confirm?

* However you must admit that being without your star QB (Milton) is a much larger loss than being without your best CB (or 4). As a star QB you throw away from their best CB anyway so the QB has a much larger impact on the overall game since the ball goes through his hands every play as compared to a CB who may be involved in 5-7 plays a game. I am sure you would agree with that? Please confirm?

2. UCF actually had a 14-3 lead early in the game. Miami never led LSU and in fact trailed 27-3 at the half. Georgia never led against LSU and in fact trailed 16-0 at halftime. UCF trailed only 24-21 at the half vs LSU.

* Miami scored 17 and UGA 16 against LSU. UCF scored 32 almost the combined total of UM and UGA.

* Again at halftime of the game WE attended in person and saw the shyte show on offense, Miami with their starting QB, trailed 27-3 against 11 new starters for LSU. Please read below:

No. 25-ranked LSU took a commanding 27-3 halftime lead and cruised to its second Top-10 victory under head coach Ed Orgeron, 33-17 over No. 8 Miami on Sunday night in AT&T Stadium.

LSU (1-0), playing with 11 first-time starters, held the Hurricanes to 97 yards in the opening 30 minutes and led 33-3 entering the fourth quarter.

* Georgia was never in the game against LSU much like Miami. The Bulldogs were held scoreless in the first half and trailed 16-0. Please read below:

Georgia walked into a raucous cage Tiger fans call Death Valley on Saturday afternoon wearing its SEC title belt, undefeated and ranked second in the nation. The 2017 national runners-up left with their first loss, an emphatic 36-16 beat down by an inspired 13th-ranked LSU football team.

In front of a sold-out Tiger Stadium which overflowed onto the field following the final whistle, LSU (6-1, 3-1 SEC) recorded its third AP Top-2 victory in stadium history - 1997 versus No. 1 Florida and 1961 versus No. 2 Ole Miss.

After suffering its first loss on the road to then-No. 22 Florida last Saturday, LSU whipped Georgia to the tune of 475 yards - 275 on the ground and 200 through the air.

So lowly little UCF, who has never out-recruited LSU, Georgia or Miami, and who (like USF, FAU and FIU) you claim can never ever never steal a recruit from big bad Miami, didn't do so bad after all?

I am sure you agree, being a reasonable person and all, right?

And Florida, who has an excellent (offensive) head coach, beat LSU. We play them in the first game next season. U ready?

Don't be mad buddy.

Between 1983-1991 and from 2000-2004 the Miami Hurricanes were the best team ever! From 2005-2018, well, not so much.

------------------------------------------------------------

"He excited us with what he did on the All-Star Circuit last year, particularly in terms of his accuracy and his competitive nature," said 247Sports Director of Scouting Barton Simmons. "I am surprised he wasn't a starter at Miami, I expected him to win that job as a freshman, so I definitely think he has the ability to be a starter at his next stop."

Williams was an Army All-American and the No. 77 overall prospect in the class of 2018.

If Richt had lost to Bama in the second half oflast years NC game, and lost 14 point lead (2x) against Bama this year and then lost to Texas, the fans would be calling for his head.

Go Canes!!

It's a bad comparison when anyone says why didn't this guy or that guy play well when Tua and Lawrence did as true freshmen.

Tua only playd when Saban got completley desperate at half time of the NC game. Before then he sat an entire season behing a QB a blind man could see was waaayyy inferior to him. And a Clemson, Trevor Lawrence is going to be one of the best if not the besy college QB we've seen in our lifetime and the undisputed number one overall pick.

One thing I'll say about Jarren is did appear to pout a bit this season. He skipped some practices and looks to have made transfer threats if he didn't play. That's not a good look for a QB that's going to lead your team.

Not saying he shouldn't have been in there, but that way af approaching it may not have been the best.

CaneRock

you are telling me you don't think Mark Richt knows what he's talking about??

Posted by: solarcane | January 02, 2019 at 12:04 AM

No.

He tried Cam Newton for a TE.

Slow played Watson to Clemson.

Never offered Bridgewater.

Fromm who Richt never offered snatched Eason's soul.

Aaaaaand just recently Kaaya tweeted this:

"Hoping we can bring James Coley back. Understands QB play and development, knows how to use playmakers, great South Florida recruiter and has had a big hand in Georgia offense past two seasons."

CaneRock

Tua threatened to transfer to USC, guess He turned out to be a bad leader.

Troy Aikman actually transferred, horrible leader.

Threatening to transfer makes you a bad leader only if you believe the narrative that Richt was one "transcendent" QB away from winning a Natty...even though Saban won a Natty with an FSU transfer.

Sigh.

WWIN

Where you keep going wrong at is comparing Kirby to younger Richt... when you should be comparing him to old man Richt

This is about 2015-18 not 2000-03! Who would you want in 2015... Kirby or old man Richt???

WWIN

Posted by: raizecane | January 02, 2019 at 07:26 AM

And rightfully so! This would be CMR's 18th year as HC and Kirby's 3rd... which one would you be more patient with?

CMR lost 6 games with one of the easiest schedules you could have, Kirby only lost 3.. and UGA would have been better off keeping Richt?

WWIN

Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 02, 2019 at 07:44 AM

No it's a great comparison! It's saying that the TOP TEAMS with everything to lose are risking it by playing true freshmen QB's but here we are playing in the ACC COASTAL and scared!

Answer this question... if Saban or Dabo was our coach would Williams had played and started by the end of the season?

Go Canes!!

Posted by: CaneRock | January 02, 2019 at 08:52 AM

I'm not saying transfers don't make good leaders. I don't care if players transfer.

The difference is Tua and Aikman never threatened to transfer or pouted by skipped practice during the season because they weren't playing.

And they definitely didn't let whatever issues they had become public dirty laundry.

Aikman transferred after breaking his leg and Tua only mentioned USC well after the season, with the natty already won.

It's completely different.

Go Canes!!

Recruiting is more important now than ever. I'm concerned that Manuelito lacks sufficient "star appeal" to successfully recruit top-tier athletes (especially highly skilled players on offense) that are needed for UM to return to the top tier of college football teams. As such, I hope he can quickly hire a prominent OC with a proven record as a successful recruiter and coach - and that he finalizes the rest of his coaching staff ASAP.

DIAZ said all the right things at his press conference. Aside from the news TBC alluded to about the defensive coaches, he confirmed there was a lot of interest nationally for the OC position. CMD confirmed that coaches are excited about the prospects of working here, and that although he has whittled the OC candidates down to three, the fourth candidate would be an outstanding hire.

CMD seems to be making all the right moves so far. Very pleased with the steps he is taking. IMO, he will hire a big name OC like Fedora or Applewhite. They both have HC experiences and they run uptempo offenses that are popular in South Florida high school football. Great strategy

Best press conference given by a new Canes coaching hire in decades. CMD has a clear vision for success, and he has articulated it well.

TonyCane

These are a couple of fascinating articles on potential trouble points for various college football programs, and their long term sustainability. Alabama is operating at a profit, but has higher operating costs than perhaps any other college football program (63M vs 30M for Notre Dame). They have also accrued $225M in debt which is due over the next 28 years.

I don't know whether the timing have entered into Thomas' position now. It depends if the teammates understood how toxic the situation was with Dugans or Richt (I have no idea how bad it was). Nonethe less, if they were sympathetic to Thomas, it might not be a big problem.

Herbieibis

Offensive coaches, whom ever they need to be good recruiters. I know the spread or some form of it is headed our way, we might one of the last few to jump on board but better late than never.

We have no A type recruiters with defensive coaches.
Going to up dated offense and having it work will start to generate more excitement towards us from the high school ranks. Can't really help us this year. Not to many elite or 4 star oh guys left. Juccos and transfers for the Oh side of ball.
We may have an outside chance still with Bogle and Steveson, maybe Richards but we still have a lot of ships left to hand out.
May have to suffer a little next year. If we can get to 9-3 maybe 10-2 is doable.
No matter who the QB is we have to fix the Oh line because that haul we just brought in ain't helping nothing. That is the second most important hire for Manny, somebody that can coach, recruit and motivate that sorry ass line.

The difference between Richt and Diaz
when speaking about the Hurricanes is
Charisma.

Richt was about making good young men.
It's up to mom and dad to make good young men. Its up to the coach to win games.

Richt had no passion about how the program was perceived by high school kids.

Diaz gets the allure of fast violent football to 17 year old kids.
Richt recruited parents as much as he did players.

Talk about hurt the nail on the head! From Manny’s Q&A after the press conference:

What went wrong this past season?

“Let’s talk about the most obvious answers first - we did everything losing football teams do,” Diaz said. “Turnovers, we did not take care of the football. Field position, we got destroyed in terms of field position, were bottom five in the country for average field position for the opposing team. Wisconsin was a microcosm of the entire year, you can’t win when the other team plays on a 58-yard field. So the way we turned the ball over, where we turned the ball over is not going to give you a chance to win. Now why are those things happening? Why are we turning it over, unable to sustain drives, what is happening in special teams? The 800-pound gorilla in the room is you have to play better at quarterback. If you watch the New Year’s Day 6 games, the guys under center, there’s not a lot of guys playing Jan. 1 that don’t have a (great) quarterback playing for them. We have to have our guys on campus playing better, have to put them in the best position to succeed as possible. Or we have to find another guy.”
