Twenty-six student-athletes earned degrees Thursday from the University of Miami in 2018 Fall Commencement exercises, which were conducted at the Watsco Center on the UM campus in Coral Gables. The UM student-athletes were among the more than 1,000 University of Miami undergraduate and graduate students who earned their degrees during the fall ceremonies.
Graduates from all of the University of Miami's schools and colleges were recognized by name and walked across the stage to be congratulated by University President Julio Frenk and their respective academic deans.
"Today is a memorable day for 26 of our student-athletes as they achieve their goal of earning a degree from the University of Miami," Director of Athletics Blake James said. "It's a testament to the hard work and dedication displayed by these outstanding young men and women, and I couldn't be prouder of them. I can't wait to see where their life's journey takes them from here, and I hope they realize that they are always welcome back and will always be a part of our U Family."
Seven of Miami's athletics programs were represented in the fall graduation ceremonies. The football team led all programs with 13 graduates, including 2018 All-ACC honorees Jaquan Johnson, Michael Jackson, Sheldrick Redwine and Tyree St. Louis.
Women's golf standout Dewi Weber will earn her bachelor's degree in advertising/motion pictures. She is one of the most decorated student-athletes in UM golf history as a three-time All-American.
The list also features several former Hurricanes who returned to school to complete their degrees, including former First-Team All-America defensive back Daryl Williams, who played at UM from 1989-91 before moving on to an 11-year NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks. He was an NFL Pro Bowl honoree in 1997 and inducted into the UM Hall of Fame in 2017.
Former men's basketball standout Darius Rice also returned to earn his degree. Rice ranks fourth in career scoring at UM with 1,865 points and was a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree. He played at UM from 2000-04 and has had a 14-year professional basketball career.
Additionally, the list includes baseball standouts Danny Garcia, Ricky Eusebio and Brandon Lopez, each of whom went on to play professional baseball, and Tyriq McCord, a former football linebacker who played in 51 career games.
First in a long time!

Damn Solar. Not many guys can tie together a spread offense, Amazon and Walmart and make it work. That's pretty impressive.
Also, looks like Willis is going to sit out the pinstripe bowl. Doesn't have anything to prove and probably doesn't want to risk injury before the draft.

The Miami Hurricanes’ search for a DC to replace Manny Diaz is over. The Canes have promoted both Ephraim Banda and Jonathan Patke to Co-Defensive Coordinators. Additionally, DL coach Jess Simpson has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.
Posted by: canes4us | December 14, 2018 at 05:44 PM
Tim Reynolds: Mark Richt’s moves today certainly help solidify recruiting at what could have been an even more volatile time for the Canes. Plus, Banda is enormously popular among players.

Incredibly lazy and stupid move by Richt. God this guy is clueless. This recruiting class is garbage already with no hope of saving it. Wouldn't it have made sense if you were going to have a first time defensive coordinator to bring in an ace recruiter like Corey Raymond. Our 2020 class would have been stacked with someone like him. Plus Co-Defensive coordinators? There is no more spinning this garbage Richt is over the hill and plain worthless. No worries next year when they go 6-6 or 7-5 they can fire all of them.

Only thing I can think of is Diaz made the same offer. It’s the double edged sword of early signing periods.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | December 14, 2018 at 06:07 PM
It's coming out that Diaz was ready to promote and take all three coaches.
Going to trust CMR knows what he's doing here. Defense has been the strength of ths team and these guys have all been an intergral part of it on the field and in recruiting.
He just better use the open coaching spot on an OC or passing game coordinator position.

Promoted Banda to keep Manny from taking him. WTF Patke. How long has this dude even been a coach. Just effing great, now they all will have to double up, coaching a position and game planning not that they didn't have some input to begin with. Whose going to be flashing signals during the game. Maybe they alternate halves where one is in the box the first half and then one goes to the sidelines.
Richt has smoked one to many this time. It going to help salvage this dumpster diving crooting class that's coming in. If Banda doesn't pull Stephens and Hasselwood, Richt's hidden agenda fails.

Still completely dumbfounded as to why we offered a ship to a kid that weighs 245 lbs, to play OT. In the year 2525 he might be ready to help us. This ain't a baseball farm system we are running, where hopefully u can help us in 3 to 4 years. That's what grad. Trans. And jucco's are 4.

Willie, I like a coach that gets fired up and engages with the players. We could have the opposite like CMR. We are still Miami, we weren't going to hire some big time name. The system will probably stay largly the same. I will take Banda over D'No any MF day, so it could be worse. I would assume they are on a short leash.

So in your desire to raise up Richt as the worst ever, you’re now on some kind of Golden bandwagon? Uh, ok...
When was the Coastal won?
2015 - the year Clemson dropped 58 on us?
2014 - the 6-7 year we lost our final 4?
2013 - good year, finished 9-3... 2nd place in the Coastal, only lost to Louisville 36-9 in our bowl.
2012 - 7-5 year... good for a 3-way tie for the Coastal
2011 - Goldie’s 1st season, 6-6 actually understandable given all the crap going on around the program
Yeah our awfense was dam awful... was, no IS dam awful. But we’re stil better off now than then and if he left right now, Richt would be leaving the program better than he found it. If nothing changes for the better by this time next year, then any good done year 1-2 will have been wasted.

Posted by: WWIN | December 14, 2018 at 10:20 PM
This could be really, really bad.
But I think it could set up really really good.
Maybe amazing.
I think these guys learned a big lesson in the jump in production when we reduced blitzing and gave the blitzes we did run much better purpose and timing. Both the timing of when they were called with disguising who is coming.
We tossed that weak ass prevent cover 3 and went way more man this year. Reduced safety blitzing and brought linebackers more. When the safeties came, it was hard, determined and confident. That hit Redwine put on Francois still gives me goosebumps.
Stick with the man coverage, play the interior receivers aggressively and blitz the middle. The occasional safety and corner blitzes will be more mirderous than ever.
Long as they don’t get pressured and panic into over blitzing our best PILLAGE may be ahead of us.
Simpson is a HUGE X factor.
I think this guy is a legend in the making and we should keep him AT ALL COST.
Legendary high school. Snatched up by the pros and is well respected. Came in as a rookie position coach and outperformed a guy who MANY regard as the best in the country. His rise has been meteoric and he has the coveted “it” factor.
This guy could attain success we have never seen before.
I know they lack typical experience, but they have risen to the occasion at every call.
I think they will do the same and probably outperform Manny, especially on the trail.
I am good with this and actually a little excited.
Now about that offense..........

It looks like the FIU Panthers have found another winning quarterback.
The Panthers, who helped send Alex McGough to the NFL Draft this past April and have Conference USA’s Newcomer of the Year James Morgan as their current quarterback, are set to sign Nashville pro-style passer Stone Norton on Dec. 19.
Norton, a 6-3, 190-pounder who is ranked the No. 2 quarterback in Tennessee, just wrapped up his senior season, leading Davidson Academy to an undefeated record and a state title.

Herbie spit a good argument but still, you can only play the teams on the schedule. THE PILLAGE dominated for the most part.
Got torched by some scrubs last year. This year was much better. Diaz grew.
By the same logic, o should have dominated because we only played TWO top 50 defenses.
How did that go? Ranked in the 90s out of like 130 teams.
Can’t take nothing for granted.

Kurt Benkert was brilliant for Virginia (6-5, 3-4), completing 28 of 37 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns.
The game started at noon, and it wasn't until 2:21 p.m. that Benkert took aim at a receiver and missed. He started 18 for 19 for 288 yards and four touchdowns in a little over a half, the only incompletion in that span being an intentional one -- he threw the ball away to avoid what would have been a sack by Miami's Chad Thomas.

Funny when The Turds were down 21-3 and came back to beat a crap Vanderbilt team this year you called it great coaching by Mullen. But when we do it our coaches are being exposed.

I would take literally any other OC over Richt. He is the worst. Just a stubborn ass who thinks, nay, believes in something despite the mountain of evidence what he believes doesn’t work. Get any other OC or start the buyout process. Absolutely the worst coach in college. Bring back Golden!

Go - Mullen is in his first year!
Richt in his 3rd
No excuses - we have a bad, non passionate coach and yes, he will figure out a way to lose 3,4 or 5 games next year in his freaking 4th year!
I hate the gators, but Mullins is a better coach than richt if not for the reason that there aren’t many coaches worse than richt!
AND, he effing thinks his offense works lol; offense can be pretty easy with our talent IF we used it correctly and used the right players (ie lingard, cam, Pope, Hightower rather than dee ‘dropems’ wiggins, deejay (who I love butbis not near the talent of lingard, etc)

Beer - correct!

PS if we used Jett Thomas correctly, he’d still be on the team!
If we used lingard correctly, he would of been practicing differently (ie with the firsts) and who knows maybe he doesn’t get injured (maybe he does but my point is made)

I think BJ made the easy move (but very wrong) by hiring richt! Now I think richt did the same thing - we should of brought in another young, aggressive DC; I think Banda could be good but he will Never get a recruit that the big dogs want (unless they are coming to the U no matter what); I do think our D will still be aggressive and good, but again, same thing Dude said ‘currently we have a mid tier mentality’ and that’s all we are - an average team at best with richt. I said it after the FSU game, this was our year to crush them and with richt, we almost lost. Time to move on but that is only wishful thinking!

Last thing
Now that manny has head coach experience, let’s fire richt and bring him back as head coach - he can bring in a OC/qb coach and a OL coach and leave everything else alone and I’d be Very happy!
Lol

SHORT LEASH? How many years do they get while getting it right from the bong smoker?
When I was young.....long time ago boss...my weapon of choice was a nice bowl....easily cleaned in a little bowl of alcohol, easy for quick hits.
I think CMR is a bowl guy....bongs spill easy, smell from first hit and get dirty...harder to clean!
None the less....cat is smoking something strong from something....maybe he's a Bambu paper guy.....and the mans thinking is ....clouded!!!!!
This has turned out to be a horrible decision by BOT and AD....we are going nowhere soon....the damn 12% bus is flying alright....in reverse!!!!

"Stop buying into the whole UM is broke because it's a a private school narrative."
Agreed WWIN. Everyone (fans of other schools) thinks people are out panhandling for money at UM and that the weightroom has picnic benches. IMO the school likes it that way so they can continue to send emails asking for more money. As a private school they are not required to divulge $$$.

Manny did not have an impressive record when he came to coach. And it took him a few seasons to have a dominating defense. The problem is that if we had won 10 games this year we could have cruited some serious alpha dogs. This is why I was so upset when Richt brought in the qb who could not hit the broad side of a barn door. The corch took too long getting the young receivers and backs ready to play from day one.So now we have taken a step back because of the corches terrible decisions. I like Simpsons record.. he could have given VA a run for his money..lol..but Simpson is the only guy who has proven that he can win. Richt should start listening to him before he makes a decisions about who plays. But Simpson is a defensive guy so we need to bring in a OC. As of now I see no difference between Richt and Goldilox...we are on that same road.

Winning makes coaches great recruiters...its very simple...the d coaches want to be a head coach one day then start winning.

dont you think it is easier for Kuligowski to recruit this year than at the U? Why..because they tide wins games and dominates.

The way you get these guys to play at another level is if they start losing you replace them....and then you give them part time play..but we did not develop our young guys..who were 4 star guys...when a player feels like he can be replaced he will be motivated...
