University of Miami redshirt senior defensive tackle Gerald Willis III added to his postseason awards list Monday, picking up second-team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America.
After a standout senior season, Willis was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and The Athletic last week.
A New Orleans native, Willis started all 12 games in the regular season and finished with a career-high 59 total tackles, four sacks, one fumble recovery and a whopping 18.0 tackles for loss, the most by any defensive tackle in FBS.
A midseason addition the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player, Willis posted five games with at least two tackles for loss and led the ACC in tackles for loss.
Willis' 18 tackles for loss were the most by a Hurricane since Jacksonville Jaguars' Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell had 20.5 in 2006. Willis was named a midseason All-America by both ESPN and The Athletic.
Willis' selection as an All-America marks the second straight year a Hurricane has earned the honor; safety Jaquan Johnson was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) last December.
We need to dodge two major bullets tonight.
Diaz to Temple as HC and Kendal Briles to FSU as OC.
Could be an ugly, ugly day tomorrow.

If Diaz leaves we'll be fine as long as we bring in a DC that runs a 1 gap system
Posted by: WWIN | December 10, 2018 at 10:38 PM
So we are taking a poll on who is to blame for the Hurricanes poor showing this season. Terrance says it is mostly the players fault and I say that it is mostly the coaches fault. Some say it is a shared 50/50 problem. What do U think?
I say 85% coaches/15% players.

Definitely closer to 85/15 on the coaches. They are the ones that have to develop and coach up the kids they recruit; they have to have a offensive and defensive system that fits the kids in their geographical area and whom they recruit; Diaz succeeded; richt failed terribly

Don't go extreme on us Terrance at the 100% level. Advocate your point and let us see where the results lie?

It's %100 coaching.
Whatever % of blame you try to put on the players is still on the coaching.
WHY???
THE COACHES RECRUITED THE PLAYERS! Duh...
It all points to coaching
Posted by: CoCane | December 11, 2018 at 12:09 AM
The lifeline of a college football program is recruiting. The COACH has to evaluate properly.
So if the lineman can't block. Coaching
If the WR and TE can't catch. Coaching
If the RB can't shake loose and and get yards. Coaching
If the QB can't read defenses, make good decisions and throw strait. Coaching
If special teams are a liability. Coaching
If the DL can't penetrate and cause pressure. Coaching
If the LB misses tackles, can't fight of blocks and can't run fast. Coaching
If the DB's can't cover and turn their head around for the ball in the air... You guessed it COACHING

Miami doesnt care enough to make their own changes on awfense. Why should anyone care if the DC gets paid then? Richt tied his own noose by disregarding the need for an actual OC that knows what hes doing and Miami gave him the rope to do it. If anything, Diaz leaving makes the whole process shorter, the only downside of course is the same chuckleheads that hired MR will hire the next bad coach, and will let him make the same mistakes.

I am almost with you CoCane. Example Perry just acting stupid texting instead of studying film.
90% coaching.
!0% players
Remember I always say you are no better then the ones you have under you and how you train or coach them.
Posted by: Harry Miller | December 11, 2018 at 12:45 AM
From the way he is recruiting by offering Beck and 2 other kids one from Conn. and the other from Cali. all 3 are pro-style QB's. He ain't changing. So unless we bomb in the bowl with another offensive shyt show, the only way he changes, is if James makes him.

We had a ton of plays last year with this lineup on the field:
Perry-Freshman
Wiggins-Freshman
Scaife-Freshman
Jordan-Freshman
Dallas-Sophomore
Donaldson-Sophomore
Harley-Sophomore
Thomas Sophomore
Homer is the only real leader they had. That matters.
Like I said, I expect a lot of improvement from the players and next year the offense will be better. But the limitations it has because of it's lack of innovation and creativity it will never be elite.

Diaz interviewing for Temple job today
Posted by: solarcane | December 11, 2018 at 09:47 AM
Current Temple football player
Truer words were never spoken
Redshirt-junior running back Jager Gardner tweeted that so far during his college career, he has had two head coaches and five position coaches.
“Never commit to a school because of a coach,” he wrote. “Always Commit to a school…because [of the] Education, Culture of the team and the development as a person.”

Sully,
Reading the Temple blog the former players are pulling for fran brown because he can recruit... new jersey
Schiano wants the job, Jimbos dc at tam and Diaz seem to be the front-runners
Posted by: solarcane | December 11, 2018 at 11:01 AM
Don’t think he’s going to get it. He’s not a dynamic recruit and too many guys with Northeastern ties want it.

If we lose Diaz we are sunk for the foreseeable future.
Watching the defense play is the only constant on that team. They had 2 bad halves the whole year.
Losing him would probably mean Pinkney and Quarterman would leave and they may be gone anyway but I definitely can't see them staying if he leaves.
Brownlee and Soloman are swingng in the breeze and would be gone.
Diaz ain't ready just yet. Schiano wants the job and if I were picking from a bunch of coordinators I would be after someone that knows the area and has ties plus is a good recruiter.
Posted by: Herbieibis | December 11, 2018 at 11:30 AM
We will be just fine relax. How many of you were hyperventilating when we lost Coach Kul the DL Coach and when we hired Coach Simpson to replace him people were skeptical I dont here any complaints now. IJS. I Love Manny and think he is awesome without question but I think we will be okay.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 11, 2018 at 11:33 AM
Someone explain the logic to me???
On Hurricane Hotline today, Richt said that the rules allow for 15 practices in preparation for a bowl game, however, he's only going to use 8. If a constant coaching refrain regarding the offense all year was that the players didn't execute, why give up 7 practices? I'm not a highly paid football coach, but I believe that practice improves performance and if not for this year than the next. I would take advantage of the extra practice to work with guys who'll be on the team next year. Of course, I could be delusional.

He had to cut the practices in half to go find some dam O-Tackles to run this choked on carbon sputtering offense. He thought it would be a good idea since we have 12 guards and centers and one tackle. Time is running out on this clueless wonder, also what's those Xtra practices going to help that the last 4 months couldn't accomplish.

Me too CGNC,
Maybe we could have done without the indoor facility and thrown the money at Diaz.
