University of Miami redshirt senior defensive tackle Gerald Willis III added to his postseason awards list Monday, picking up second-team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America.
After a standout senior season, Willis was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and The Athletic last week.
A New Orleans native, Willis started all 12 games in the regular season and finished with a career-high 59 total tackles, four sacks, one fumble recovery and a whopping 18.0 tackles for loss, the most by any defensive tackle in FBS.
A midseason addition the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player, Willis posted five games with at least two tackles for loss and led the ACC in tackles for loss.
Willis' 18 tackles for loss were the most by a Hurricane since Jacksonville Jaguars' Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell had 20.5 in 2006. Willis was named a midseason All-America by both ESPN and The Athletic.
Willis' selection as an All-America marks the second straight year a Hurricane has earned the honor; safety Jaquan Johnson was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) last December.
geeez the coaches should be ashamed for loosing to doogie..the lowest point of the U history.

Yeah, good thing we didn't play App State or UCF!

in the immortal words of Jimmy J ...When im preparing for the opponent "I want to kick their ass!" I suggest Richt get his sh^^% together and continue the cane tradition.

LMBAO I guess losing to FAMU in the 1970's wasn't the lowest point but losing to a Power 5 Division and Conference mate is put the damn dope down.

Or using to USF or ECU was worse than losing to Duke lol. U trying to hard with these Awful Takes.

Meh.
He tries too hard and he’s all caught up in the timeline and not the topic.
Four out of 10 at best.

OK...I am old enough to have a grandfather who lived on 7th ave where we could walk to the ob from the house. When I was old enough to walk a mile i saw my first cane game back in the late 60s. Good ole Charlie Tate. 34-27-3..Winning a game was special..lmao. But their was nothing like being in the ob in a stadium filled with cigar smoke...lmao...I was also lucky enough to go to most of the Orange Bowl Game because my grandfather donated money to build the stadium and he got first choice on where we sat. So I was more excited because Bama..who was always in the top 10 was coming once a year to play in the Orange bowl game. The U history really started when we beat Nebraska in 84
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | December 12, 2018 at 10:19 AM
The U started when Jimmy started running up the score on Faust and everyone else.
University of Miami football started the day Howard went into Happy Valley and beat #1 Penn State with Jim Kelly and created the state of Miami recruiting philosophy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mayors_of_Miami
I think ive written on Cane space that my grand fathers brother was Robert Williams. He was a mayor of Miami in the 30s,My grandfather had a business on the 5th floor across from the library overlooking the ocean in down town. I was a spoiled little tot..used to go to the burdines basement and get coats and ties from grandma. My fondest memories was driving down miracle mile with grandma on the way to Sears to get clothes. My grandfather had a picture above his desk of his brother riding in a convertible with Roosevelt.

I loved eating at the sandwich shop down the street...another memory from his business
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | December 12, 2018 at 10:51 AM
LOL both of you are wrong the University of Miami football started in 1926. The End.

It’s sad. We should be praising the kid for bridging the gap to our return to relevance instead, we call him all kinds of names and revile his existence.
Posted by: TruCane81 | December 11, 2018 at 11:40 PM
Yup...and notice how His haters are moving the goalposts now.
When Rosier was the starter, it was all His fault...now Perry's the starter, they wanna blame it on inexperience, and/or lack of talent.
We had an experienced & talented team going into the LSU game, and look what happened.
Talent & experience can't overcome this crappy, predictable offense.

Or this guy:
Feldman: SOURCE: #Michigan DC Don Brown interviewed for the #Temple head coaching job Tuesday. Marc Narducci first reported that Brown met with the Owls about the vacancy.

gferman
Hearing Manny is now the top choice at Temple
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | December 12, 2018 at 12:16 PM
Manny and Brown are the top choices. All we can do is pray Caners! Right before signing day this would be a disaster, and also some juniors who maybe were on the fence about staying or going pro. COME ON MANNY, DON'T LEAVE DUDE!!!!
Posted by: ColaCane | December 12, 2018 at 12:28 PM
Full Ride on XM/Sirius with Nueheisel and Childers say they wouldn't be surprised if it's Diaz. Using Temple as a stepping stone school to bigger things. :(
Posted by: ColaCane | December 12, 2018 at 12:47 PM
If Diaz leaves, Richt can act as both OC and DC.
Posted by: Old Skool | December 12, 2018 at 12:51 PM
Whew!! If Ferman says he’s the front runner we’re safe.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | December 12, 2018 at 01:19 PM
100 % coaching.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8znLAMrecFk&t=7585s
THIS is how you give a flawed qb confidence and get offensive production under difficult circumstances.
Malik was a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN in his FIRST ROAD START against a ranked opponent at the end of a lost season with NO HEAD COACH.
Started the game 10-12! Ended 20-29! Has not come anywhere close to looking like this since.
LOOK AT THE PLAYS! A versatile array of screen passes. Mix inside outside running. Option plays. He was throwing STRIKES intermediate distance OVER THE MIDDLE! Multiple formations. Lots of passing on first down. Moving the sticks and controlling the game. Kid is in complete control.
Look at those touchdown and sideline completions. You wouldn’t think you were looking at the same human being as has been stinking it up the last two years.
It’s sad. We should be praising the kid for bridging the gap to our return to relevance instead, we call him all kinds of names and revile his existence.
If this was our offense, we go 11-1 MINIMUM.
Defenses didn’t figure out Malik. They figured out the awfense corchinator.
There is a lot of smoke among people close to the players that Little Jon is a huge joke and a problem with the players. All our quarterbacks have looked BAD. Most have been suspended. So we just happen to have the worst recruiting luck in p5?

LMBAO at some of these posts. Thanks for the laughs guys. Much love. Go Canes!

I don't think losing Diaz will hurt us that much. Richt will get someone in or hire within to run the same aggressive style defense.
Give Richt a little credit, he did hire Diaz! I trust him to hire a good one!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | December 12, 2018 at 03:11 PM
I said a long time ago we should have named Manny Assistant HC and HC In Waiting, and throw money at him... but NOOOO... we just let him leave without even trying.
Total bummer.
Getting sadder...
Posted by: roachcane77 | December 12, 2018 at 03:48 PM
Looking like Manny may be gone. The next question is who goes with him. Will he cherry pick from the Canes staff? I know one name that wouldn't be on Manny's short list: Jon Richt.
Posted by: Old Skool | December 12, 2018 at 03:49 PM

Hear me out on this one! This sounds crazy, but how about Butch as DC. Not sure what his salary is at FIU, but it can't be higher than $1M. Let's pay him $1.5 and get him in here!

This sucks in epic proportions. A week before signing day. Stuck with a stagnet, emotionaless head coach and The only emotion we had on the side line is gone. What else can go wrong?

I would've fired Richt and promoted Diaz
