University of Miami redshirt senior defensive tackle Gerald Willis III added to his postseason awards list Monday, picking up second-team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America.
After a standout senior season, Willis was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and The Athletic last week.
A New Orleans native, Willis started all 12 games in the regular season and finished with a career-high 59 total tackles, four sacks, one fumble recovery and a whopping 18.0 tackles for loss, the most by any defensive tackle in FBS.
A midseason addition the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player, Willis posted five games with at least two tackles for loss and led the ACC in tackles for loss.
Willis' 18 tackles for loss were the most by a Hurricane since Jacksonville Jaguars' Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell had 20.5 in 2006. Willis was named a midseason All-America by both ESPN and The Athletic.
Willis' selection as an All-America marks the second straight year a Hurricane has earned the honor; safety Jaquan Johnson was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) last December.

99% Corching
1% Players
Defensive players don't seem to be having any problems so it has to be the corching!

What's a couple players getting hit by lightning now and then, compared to a national championship?
Posted by: solarcane | December 11, 2018 at 01:58 PM
Yeah, what's a little lightning anyways? I spent half my childhood riding my bike around South Florida dodging thunderstorms and the other half hiding out in a tree fort whenever it rained.
Lightning, smightning.

OK, to be fair to Terrance he never said that it was ALL the players fault, and I never said it was ALL the coaches fault. Of course ALL reasonable people know that they BOTH share blame.
My only point was who was MORE responsible the players or the coaches and I think that most would agree that it falls more on the coaches (60-80%) than the players (20-40%).
Can we agree on that?

100% coaching.
6-24 at a whopping 2.2 YPA would be unacceptable at Alabama & Clemson...hell, Saban cusses out His OCs if the QBs throw 2 incompletions in a row.

This year, it's 60% the players, 40% coaching. Coaches did a horrible job with the off-season opener plan and the bye week this year getting the team prepared while special teams was below average too often to just lay it at personnel deficiencies. Players did pretty bad consistently bringing anything close to their A game off an entire bus much less two from the opener until the regular season finale and that's something they'll have to improve on from within themselves next season.
Can't only blame Smart Mark on down the staff for the redshirt/true seniors and redshirt juniors unless they're transfers like that second team All-American and then you can only really blame them for not getting a few more transferred in with Willis unless you're reaching.

Posted by: roachcane77 | December 11, 2018 at 06:06 PM
I'd hardly call it raging. If's it's raging that's a fire with its act together and plenty of fuel. Our offense is like a sputtering bunch of embers that rarely catch fire and are satisfied to flicker out in the dirt.

If u read Barry Jackson's piece on our offense and the recruits they are going after and The Herb said WTf. Turning over every rock they can find and offering ships too. This is effing what Richt has brought us down to, ground zero.offering a 2 star QB, who has one power 5 offer.
His old school next year will have 4 five star linemen starting on offense and we are struggling to flip 3 star guys from second rate U!

It’s cause he sucks and we all knew except a few and of course our AD and BOT

Coach L's loss to Penn doesn't look quite as bad tonight with Penn now taking down Villanova. Still, they have a long tough acc schedule in front of them while still waiting on a DH decision.
Posted by: JCane | December 11, 2018 at 09:45 PM
Coach L is a worse recruiter than Richt. That guy was a flash in the pan.
Posted by: BEERicane | December 11, 2018 at 10:22 PM
Coach L could have a bad season due to poor recruiting more easily understood than Richt given the shadow of the investigation and the inability to recruit at all for a year as a result. Richt may/will have a hard time showing that this year was an aberration. Larranega may be able to get through it.
Posted by: JCane | December 11, 2018 at 10:50 PM
Up to this point in their respective careers Coach L has done more with less and Richt has done less with more. Is this even a real discussion?

100 % coaching.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8znLAMrecFk&t=7585s
THIS is how you give a flawed qb confidence and get offensive production under difficult circumstances.
Malik was a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN in his FIRST ROAD START against a ranked opponent at the end of a lost season with NO HEAD COACH.
Started the game 10-12! Ended 20-29! Has not come anywhere close to looking like this since.
LOOK AT THE PLAYS! A versatile array of screen passes. Mix inside outside running. Option plays. He was throwing STRIKES intermediate distance OVER THE MIDDLE! Multiple formations. Lots of passing on first down. Moving the sticks and controlling the game. Kid is in complete control.
Look at those touchdown and sideline completions. You wouldn’t think you were looking at the same human being as has been stinking it up the last two years.
It’s sad. We should be praising the kid for bridging the gap to our return to relevance instead, we call him all kinds of names and revile his existence.
If this was our offense, we go 11-1 MINIMUM.
Defenses didn’t figure out Malik. They figured out the awfense corchinator.
There is a lot of smoke among people close to the players that Little Jon is a huge joke and a problem with the players. All our quarterbacks have looked BAD. Most have been suspended. So we just happen to have the worst recruiting luck in p5?
No, we got the worst corchinating. Windy saw the disorganized mess of Richt’s progeny first hand and kept his mouth shut cause he didn’t want to rain on the 12% parade.
But the proof is in the pudding. The offensive staff is largely a joke and the players look the part. When it rains, it pours. When you are lead by a clown brigade, don’t be surprised when you play like a three ring circus. Ringling Bros. ain’t close shop. They just packed up and moved to Coral Gables.
Dude constantly throws his players under the bus for execution and youth and decides to skip half his bowl practices?
Yeah Richtirement is in full swing

Yes. You are correct. Raging dumpster fire gives them TOO much credit and energy... We are indeed "flickering out..."
Extra practices? Who needs extra practices? We suck, we know it, and we're fine with it... (Said no winning coach ever!)
Thanks CMR.

Yeah, as clearly indicated by our stellar performance this year we don't need any extra stinking practices, that's for sure. Why practice extra in the hot sun and break a sweat when you can just sit in the cool shade?
This is where the fans get upset: When it appears that we spend more time thinking and talking about football during the season and off-season that the coaches and players do.
