Go Canes!!

Great takes by DTX. He's 100% spot on.

The list of guys who've came here with hands that were questionable at best, then left here as high draft picks is long and illustrious.

Guys like Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson and Jimmy Graham are just a few of the guys who had serious drips issues. So did Ahmon Richards before he figured it out.

Anyone remember Phillip Dorsett dropping not one but two WIDE OPEN TD catches that year we got blown out by the Irish?

He ended up just fine.

Don't get why some try and pin it on just the players or just the coaches. It's a combination of the two.

Either way, drops concern me far less than offensive line and QB development coupled with mediorcre play calling and scheme. That's a much more difficult task cause all of us know how hard it is to teach an old dog new tricks.

I like how in this scenario the 16 year old has exactly zero input into his future because we both know when you're a teenager you never make decisions or choices about your future on your own behalf because that's the age when you're renown for listening patiently to everybody else and doing exactly what they tell you to do at any given juncture . . .

Allison line for the year so far:

6/10 attempts 75yards 1TD/1INT 136.0 Rating

They're also on a two game losing streak so just getting a win at this point would be considered an upgrade in QB play.

Hello all....have no fear your championship has come home again....my 24 young men played great, really showed up to win 26-0.
It was close through the first half with us up 10-0 at half. It was cold and both teams are the best of the best.
However, fundamentals and basics really won the game. We had no turnovers, as opposed to 3 created by our D. We blocked and tackled better, we ran the ball, and were prepared for the pressure and the weather.
We hit hard on both sides and we eliminated their QB at beginning of 3rd quarter on a monster hit...it sealed their fate. They made some plays as they are good, but 3rd downs we ruled and shut the spread down. A shutout is great and i was very pleased with my guys...they are great kids.
Again, its just another game along the road. Execute fundamentals, play your game and know your assignment.
Nice to be champions again. I am a good coach and a players coach, but i am tough on my guys...We may plan each game, but make no mistake....my guys are open attentive care and listen....and execute! The reason we win is we work together....but most important my guys do it....they are the reason we win...I just teach it! They DO IT!!
Dallas TX great points, you got it!

VA Cane

By the way...cold and snowing here...about 4" now....in Bburg its about 8!!!!!!

As bad as the recruiting has been on offense, the recruiting on defense has been stellar, as shown by the performances in the FHSAA playoffs and State Championships.

The three commits from Chaminade-Madonna (Crouch, Williams and Smith) dominated and won their second championship, and Samuel Brooks and Northwestern pitched a shutout while Brooks had a scoop and score. Solomon and Huff at St. Thomas are going to be good players, if we can keep them. Brownlee from Carol City was impressive and Jahfari Harvey is a stud. These players are very capable of upholding the recent tradition of having a top ranked defense nationally.

Rumph is a really good coach, and now has a great track record for CB recruits to rely on - the number one pass defense in America, and possibly an NFL draftee in 2019, with Mike Jack. He also helped that Texas transfer get in the league a couple of years ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dean is a late round draftee because of his raw ability, speed and dramatic improvement as a tackler and cover corner over the last four weeks of the season. Rumph May have missed out on a few high profile 5 star recruits, but few coaches in college football can claim Rumph’s success in having developed and coached CBs as well as Rumph has over the last three years.

Having the #1 pass defense in the country should help recruiting in the secondary.

The future on defense looks very bright.

BigWindyCane

Congratulations VA!

Way to go VA Cane! Wish our O-line would learn FUNDAMENTAL football, (like our D-line.)

Still holding my breath that MannyD doesn't get poached by a school with a bucket of cash and an offense.

Still no sign of getting an OC or QB coach... sigh...

VA Cane

Thanks for the great post Windy sounds like 1 sie of the ball is ready to go!! I like Rumph!!!
Roach, I agree....everyone has to know about Manny....we need to keep him!!!
Thanks guys....all credit to the kids....they execute so well....and really want to!!!!
We had some monster hits on D...took their will away...and QB!!! The OL was really strong....power football up front fast backs...we did a nice job!!!!

VA Cane

Just shoveled and blew deck and porch ....and its covering up again!!!!

Meanwhile, on offense...

So we have been "over the same old ground" a couple of times now, haven't we? Let us recap:

1. Players may transfer but they do not get fired in college, the coach does. The bottom line and the buck stops at the head coaches desk. PERIOD.

2. If you are a head coach and don't want to get fired then under-promise and over-perform, just don't do the opposite.

3. Most of all head coaches please be SMART and do NOT let your assistants (See D'No) get you fired.

So basically there are two options at this point 3 years in to Mark Richt's tenure at UM:

A. Make needed changes, start over-performing and winning more than expected? Problem solved!

B. Keep the status quo, keep losing more than expected? The problem will get solved for you!

Go Canes!!

It is actually possible to not make any coaching changes, all the young guys on offense continue to develop and we win more.

It IS possible that you are the only person on the blog who thinks this way and would post this comment.

There are no indicators, signs or evidence that would lead anyone who is reasonable and rational and logical to come to this conclusion. If you want to hope and pray that this IS possible then that is fine but all indicators are to the contrary.

It IS possible that I won the Powerball last night and will never have to work again or run this blog.

There is about as much chance that this is true as your statement is true.

It IS possible that I am the smartest and best looking man in all of Florida.

OK, this is definitely NOT true but hey since we were playing the "I wish it to be true so it IS possible" game, I thought I would give it a shot to see how it feels.

Feels pretty stupid to me?

Go Canes!!

I think we will see some improvement, but not nearly enough for us to be competitive with Clemson in the ACCCG, which is supposed to be the goal of all of this.

Terrance Sullivan

Congratulations VA.

VA Cane

Thank you TSully it feels good to see my guys play like they did...they are so focused on fundamentals execution and taking everything a play at a time a game at a time. They are tough mentally and physically....these kids sure like to hit....They tatumized the QB I mean knocked him out...low hard clean and fast. Great win all credit to the kids.

It is not possible they will not develop and grow with the AD HC O staff and ST staff....we will get worse.
I do not want improvement that will not make us competitive slightly more....anybody can be mediocre by walking on the field.
Its time for real change!!

VA Cane

I am tired of BOT and AD promoting/hiring unqualified clowns to coach this team. They have never done a real search to get a really good coach.
They jumped on Clappy and Onion, who were in no way qualified to be the HC. They jumped on AlPa due to short term success, and hired CMR because he was an alum and had a good but unremarkable career at UGA. None of these guys ever won anything worth talking about; clappy won with recruits of BD; hell anybody could have won the NC that year....KD11 and ER20 were the real coaches.
Like I said, anybody can be average and anybody can be happy with average; I cannot. JMO

KYcane

Congratulations VA!

Job well done by all

Herbieibis

Congrats VA. I have 4 ships myself in baseball but had to give it up. I'm 61 and feel it. Coaches coach and players at, it's that simple. A good coach is a good evaluator of talent and gets his guys to play within a team concept, from the best players to the average guys. Not everyone is of the same ability but getting everyone to play as a team to me is where the coach makes the biggest difference. Coaching baseball, I had guys that couldn't hit that well but they could play defense. Had guys that could hit but maybe were a little slow and had them play position maybe they didn't like. Had kids that were really good pitchers but that was it. Then have the couple of kids that can do it all. Riding those studs and keeping them humble is tough sometimes but there again that's where a good coach balances it all out.
Richt has to make changes and maybe the one change he makes is relieving himself of the O-coordinator job. Hell I'd be happy with that small step
I hear a flip is coming, whoopty Doo! Show me a talent flip not somebody we could of had all along that we ignored to begin with.

CoCane

Lmao!

It's the coaches job to pick assistants. It's the coaches job to install a system. It's the coaches job to selectively recruit players that have the talent, work ethic and intelligence to execute the system at an elite level. It's the coaches job to develop the players in the areas needed and maximize their skills.

If the assistant coaches are not up to par, it's the HC fault. HE PICKED THEM.

If the players don't have the talent, are overrated, are lazy or can't comprehend on the collegiate level, it's the HC fault. HE EVALUATED THEM.

If the players aren't balling because they're not being used to their skillset or the system doesn't fit them. It's the HC fault. IT'S HIS SYSTEM

Alex Smith was a garbage bust in San Francisco. Andy Reid gets a hold of him and develops him into a good QB.

How many players over the last 15 years have come through UM and underachieved because of poor coaching? Only to get drafted late or undrafted. Then, make a roster and ball because they finally got coached up?

Keep blaming the players if you want to. Common sense will prevail...

VA Cane

Thanks so much KY and Herbie....Herbie I am 60.....still got the spark.
You are so right....evaluating your talent decide who can do what, teach them fundamentals, push and encourage....buy into TEAM BIG me small!!!!!
I am sure you are an awesome coach; you see the facts....and I always admire how you love your O and D tackles!!!!!!
I agree CMR got to make changes this year....I like the man hate the coaching ways.....just do not work here!!!
No problem with the bowl smoking!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

No one's mentioned the end of the Fins/Pat's game? Hmmmmm.....

CGNC

Congrats VA.

TSully and DTC - are spot on, yes it is BOTH. It seemed like with Jeff Thomas gone no one wanted "to be the guy". That is a problem right there. They were squandering their opportunities instead of making the most of them. That Pitt game, it looked we had 6 Lance Leggetts running around out there.

VA Cane

Thanks CGNC....I have been blessed with so many great kids for so long...and the parents that buy into what I do and are so supportive of the program.
These kids just work harder than anyone year after year they listen learn execute and want it! 9 of the last 12 is incredible...its these young men that do it!!!
We have to somehow get there at UM.....I just do not see it under CMR....average is acceptable...it is not...anybody can be average....UM cannot longer be average....its just unacceptable!!!

mi@mic@ne

as you can see in the cowboy eagles game...the lineback was an inch away from knocking the winning td down and the d back was an inch away from knocking the ball to the ground...and small wood is a few inches short himself...

I just want the Canes to get the next Amari Cooper (out of Miami Northwestern high school). That is what a #1 receiver looks like, and that is how a #1 receiver can impact a football game. I don’t think Cooper is a blazer, but he consistently gets open, he gets separation and he secures the catch. He makes plays.

The Canes need to go out and recruit some alpha dogs at WR. I don’t think Cager is the answer. I need to see if Pope and the other young WRs can step up. I think Haselwood and Peyton definitely have potential

CGNC

BWC, and the next Patrick Mahomes
Lol.

DTC, doing good. Wondering when things will change for us.

Herbieibis

I hear u VA. O hate pro football. Actually I call it the National field goal league. Watching them trying to run is like watching a rugby scrum. Prevent defense prevents nothing. Defense has no chance. Should just play flag football.

Windy,
Cooper is consistent.

I did a post earlier today about average speed Cane receivers, catching football's from Cane qbs with average arms
Everyone of them had double digit ypc
None of them were as fast as the current Cane receivers
but they got behind defenses and caught the ball

Given the last decade, a cynic might say: When the sun rises in the west, sets in the east. When the seas go dry. When the mountains blow in the wind like leaves.

Or maybe when we get an OC....

His Majesty The Dude on High

Miami is not making staff changes.

What makes you think players will improve? Did Rosier improve? Did the OL improve? Did Dallas improve? The one guy that really improved left the team because the HC wants players to earn their spot, but lets his kid hang around to coach QBs. Miami is dropping the ball again, and next year will be another sh*t show, as we wait for the BoTs to pull the plug, then make another questionable hire. Again and again Miami fans are cursed to set sail on the Titanic's maiden voyage.

Miami is not making staff changes.

And FSU might hire Briles...

7-6 to 9-4 next year.

Auburn hires Memphis OC. Good grief!!!
