So the breaking news today is that new head coach Manny Diaz has hired Major Applewhite as the Offensive Coordinator at the University of Miami. I know I promised to be positive from now on, but this decision got me to thinking.
According to "sources" it appears that Larry may have left his Fedora at the stadium in North Carolina and was not available after that incident occurred. Hey, who can blame the former Head Coach for not taking a step-down job to be an OC for a first year head coach in Coral Gables?
Hate to say I told all of you know it alls so...BUT you know that I told you so.
It is now rumored that Miami will score as many points as they need to win any game they play next year and every year after that. If this is true then I, and we, are all behind this incredibly great decision by Manny Diaz.
A great way to start this new relationship off is IF Miami scores more points than Florida in the first game of next season. I, along with many Canespacers, will be at that game in Orlando to cheer on Manny Diaz and his team.
The score will be noted and if the outcome is in favor of the team we love wearing the orange and green vs the team we hate wearing the orange and blue then that will do just fine thank you very much. Then beat FSU.
Go Canes, Go Manny, Go Major!
1. Schiano and Kiffin would leave their jobs for what reason again? I love this hypothetical however.
2. Miami dynasty is formed for the next 20 years!!

1. Schiano used to coach under Butch as DC at Maimi. They have a good relationship.
2. Kiffin is at FAU and could UPGRADE his status as Head Coach in waiting at UM under Butch who is probably good for 3-5 years max an 1-2 Championships.

If you polled members of my family, most of them, Ohio State fans all, would tell you they hope that Greg Schiano doesn’t return to the Buckeyes next season. Based on his comments earlier Thursday, those OSU fans who lean in the direction of a change in leadership on that side of the ball could very well see their wishes come true in the not-too-distant future.

Solar: I haven’t really followed MA’s coaching career. I loved him as a player. He was average physically but a born leader that the team followed and he won. Chris Simms was the guy with the NFL body but 10 cent head that even a lemming wouldn’t follow. I know he has coached with several well respected guys and was considered an “up & comer” a few years ago. I think he got somewhat of a raw deal at Houston - 1st time HC that made a lot of typical mistakes for a 1st time HC; only got 2 years so no real chance to learn and adjust; he was 7-1 this year before a five game losing streak buried him, losing his best 2 players to injury didn’t help. MA’s worst mistake?... following Tom Herman.
The other coin side is he hired D’no. He hired Briles - might have been good football-wise but was controversial and Kendall leaving Htown so quickly reflected poorly on MA. Lot of judgement calls that didn’t sit well with UH AD & Pres.
So I’m still a MA fan and want him to succeed. I’m not excited about him at Miami more due to the fact that I believe Manny would greatly benefit from more experienced staff to guide & mentor. If he does end up here, I think he’ll do well given Miami talent & speed plus taking off all the HC responsibility shackles.

Latest rumor is that after Fedora, second choice for OC is Clemson co-OC Jeff Scott.

DTX
Thanks I remember MA playing mostly because his name was a bit unusual.
When he moved on to coaching I didnt really follow how he was doing.
I am willing to give him a chance.
I just don't want a good cop bad cop deal with offensive players like the brief Richt Era was developing.
I followed Fedora for awhile, and always thought he did a lot with average players. He is also fiery.
He was my choice.
The guy from Troy seems to know offense, maybe he is a fit.
No soft ass coaches!

This could possibly be guy Diaz said would knock our socks off if named.
All the sauces is guessing trying to get a “Heard it here first.” take like I’m always doing lol.

Got it, we want the DC from the team whose fan base doesn't even want him anymore? I would say Diaz has done a better job with less talent than Greg...
Now I'm going to pull a WWIN
What good offense has his defense shutdown? A bad Purdue team torched him. And we expect him to beat Clemson..No thanks
😉😉
See soup it's all about narrative..

Jax...U are missing the message.
I am not saying that Schiano is a better DC coach than Diaz (he may be IF combined with the coach that rhymes with Butch) but I AM saying that his NAME along with that other guy I mentioned along with that Kiffin Dude from FAU could recruit the F$#% outta South Florida.
Argue that?

I would say a local big name high school coach, however, the last big name high school coach that was hired (Mike Rumph), had not delivered on local 5 star recruits from his former school.

"could recruit the F$#% outta South Florida."
based on what? who was the last big time guy Greg got from down there?
I love Butch. I do.
Who are when has Lane gotten a big time guy from south Florida? 247 says Bo Scarborough is the only big time recruit he has ever gotten from Florida...and that's not so.flo
Soup I would love your staff but I just dont see how that haul would even be possible to obtain..That seems like something off of season mode on NCAA college football game

Strength coach hired
When Manny Diaz was hired by Temple ... remember that? ... his first personnel move was to retain head strength and conditioning coach David Feeley..
And when Diaz took the UM job one of his first moves was to dismiss strength coach Gus Felder.
Now?
Sources tell CaneSport that Feeley is a leading candidate to head the weight room for Diaz at Miami.
Diaz had given Feeley the title "Assistant Athletics Director, Football Sports Performance" at Temple.

Yes but look at the school he is trying to bring recruits to.
If This was still 1999 and Butch was at the U, and he was playing in the Orange Bowl, and his school already had 4 national championships, and Kenny Dorsey was his quarterback and on and on and on.. well you get where I'm heading

Same thing if we hired Saban as head coach which is not happening either. My comment was geared towards the chances/coaches we have right now.

So my good friend Mr. Go Canes...since you felt it research worthy to look up the recruiting stats on FIU and their competitors I thought I would repay the favor by looking up the results of their actual head to head games. And what do you know, in 2018, here is what I found:
FIU beat Old Dominion 28-20
FIU beat Rice 36-17
Oh and BTW, your good friend Butch at FIU beat Toledo in their bowl game 35-32 whereas Miami lost to Wisconsin by, well, you know...

Is that what you meant by recruiting the f-ing shit out of South Florida?
How do you not realize what a total self own you just posted.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 05, 2019 at 12:00 AM
Before Butch got to FIU they were 4-8. Since then they have been 8-5 and 9-4. There is your research working for you.
Manny comes in at 7-6. What will he end his first year at? Will he win 4-5 more games in his first two years as his predecessor?
Time will tell...

I’ll give them all a chance, like always. The only thing I know for sure is the constant coaching carousal is a hallmark of a crap program in constant crisis. This is the biggest recruiting hinderance. Instability fosters doubt. Kids don’t commit when there’s doubt.
I know, I know... but we’re Miami. Coaches last 4 years, win a couple NC’s then head for Da League! Next up!
I say, well how have the last 15-20 years treated U?!? The Schnelly-JJ-Erickson-Butch era was a major college football anomoly. Most top winning programs get at least 8 years of HC stability, a lot even longer (Saban, Dabo, Stoops, Switzer, Mack B, Bowden, etc etc). After 2 bad hires in a row, the odds of serious long term decline go way up (see Nebraska or Tennessee or many others). The U needs to fix this. It gets more difficult with every bad hire. We’re seriously approaching Notre Dame status... great history, middle of the pack program that makes a little noise every few years, best years long gone & not coming back. I pray Manny is the 2nd coming of JJ because if he’s not...
Posted by: DallasTX Cane | January 05, 2019 at 12:01 AM
You are such a jackazz, always missing the point. I said IF Butch were at MIAMI, with Schiano and Kiffin, they would recruit the F-ing stuff out of South Florida, not if Butch were at FIU without either one.
Butch "under-recruits" but over performs!
Get it? Got it? Good!

DTX good points.
You and I think along the same lines quite a bit.
I was thinking a couple days ago how many different Cane Coaches guys like Frank Beamer shake hands with and then realize they are actually the big winners to stay at a program that respects the hell out if them.

Another source, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, says Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott is being considered by the Canes for the OC job. CMD is right — the Canes have a lot of good candidates for the open OC job.

Posted by: solarcane | January 05, 2019 at 12:31 AM
Looked at the list of pro bowl players from Florida, and two things stuck out:
1. There are as many, if not more, former 2-3 star recruits out of high school , as opposed to 4-5 star recruits
2. None played for the University of Miami- and half weren’t even recruited by the University of Miami.
CMD must change this, among other things.
