Could not sleep last night thanks to the whining of my oversized pug, and was reading some Alabama commentary on the move. Here as some of the funnier ones:

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of York;
And all the clouds that low'r'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

Really irritated, I get it "trust the process", at what point in the process do we get to keep a successful coach for more than one damn season!!!!

Does anybody know Saban's policy these days on how long a coach should stay when he hires them? I seem to remember reading here that Saban typically wants a minimum of three years. Has he simply given up on that and hires guys to try it out for a year?

I'm like a broken record on this topic but gee whiz, why can't we find good coaches with enough integrity to honor a contract?

And then there was this gem:

If Saban announces his retirement, that would certainly explain why it looked like his mind was everywhere except in the game Monday night. I have never in twelve years watched Saban stand emotionless for four qtrs like he did Monday.

I think it is good hire but I need to actually see the
Play calling. Does he have experience as an OC?

He was OC at Arkansas before going to Alabama.

CGNC

Tony, that’s right thanks. Hickson is running backs coach and Butch Barry is OL coach per Twitter

He has head coaching experience too

TonyCane

Just saw that Artur Sitkowski had 1,158 yards passing last year, with 4TDs vs 18INTs. What happened?

Tony,
Another Dud and lazy adventure to add to our QB misery. Thank God he took the misery he would of offered us Rutgers. Three is enough!

For background on the new RB and OL coaches.

TonyCane

I remember when he decommitted and signed with Rutgers. I'd heard that we had backed off of him prior to the signing and pivoted to Jarren. Just was wondering if it was his performance, or just the state of the team/OL that contributed to that.

It'll look similar to this most probably?

Apparently even though Thomas signed a financial aid contract that does that bind him to Illini. He has reached out to Diaz about a return, which of course would be up to Diaz to take him back.

I think if he comes back, he has to start at the very bottom and has to work his way back.

Tony right
Why keep pope on the bench and let the prodigal son play ahead
Of course course Thomas and can actually catch a football so he has an edge there

Holy Hurricane Smoke! My computer was on the fritz for 4 days. Just turned it on now and low and behold, my favorite photo. How could it be.
A CANES miracle. Thank you 86.
Still stuck up here in MI. New place not finished yet.

Alex D

What's good Legion/Canespace? Bringing back JT4 would be equivalent to signing a 5 star prospect, LSU defense can validate his 5 star play. Thank goodness we decide to bring back Gerald Willis after a year long suspension. He played like a 5 star and an All-American. Also, Jalen Hurts would be equivalent to signing a 5 star recruit; if signed, you can not teach big game QB experience. Enjoy your day.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Lots of JT4 smoke... its happening isnt it?

Up to Manny needs

VA Cane

Good signings by MD; dont know how they pan out in real life, but its a start with new approaches.
The end of Clappys reign and Onions AlPas and CMRs were disasters....such poor attacks and schemes...there is no excuse for them.
Looks like MD is taking a new approach; I like it so far.
If Thomas can come back, I am ok with giving him a shot. He left due to some stupid stuff. He still needs to compete, but with the talent he shows, he should rise to the top.
I am sorry, but Hurts, even with experience in his Bama career, is not a 5 star based on experience, and certainly not talent. He may have been good in HS....college average QB who was surrounded with great talent...how could you not win? The young man is a great kid, but he is limited in his QB skills. We have had way too many people who cannot pass since 2003. I have seen teens who pass better than Rozier and Pornboy. Pornboy and Pothead got to go....I am done with their dumbasses. If Hurts comes and competes and is the best...go with it. The kid from OSU...come and compete....Williams...compete.....bye bye to John Holmes porn star and Smoky Joe pothead!!!!

Terrance Sullivan

Big Facts VA.

BigWindyCane

RB coach Eric Hickson and OL coach Butch Barry are GREAT hires! Manny is doing a great job hiring coaches. Recruits will definitely follow. Still waiting on WR and TE coaches, but the Canes have enough in place to attract more talented recruits.

I think we are 50/50 with Hurts coming here to join his former QB coach. If Hurts transfers here, he would instantly become the best QB on the Canes roster by far, one of the best 2-3 QBs in the ACC (Trevor Lawrence #1), a QB with lots of Championship experience, and a teammate who can help other Canes transition to Enos and his offense. With the grad transfers at WR and OL, I expect immediate success in the ACC.

Hurts will also definitely help the Canes attract more quality recruits and transfers before NSD.

VA Cane

I know all you folks remember...Compete.....ST26, Antrelle Rolle, K2 and others over the years sitting though they were stars in their own right....you come in learn the Cane way...you are given nothing....you earn the right to play.....that was the way since HS....and somewhere we got away from that...when? When we started believing the clippings, the stars, the 40 times, the HS records, the HS All Americans....can you say J12....he was gonna be a Saviour along with that class...instead of getting out there seeing scouting recognizing talent based on fundamental execution of the game....and studying it...and recruiting the hell out of it....and still making people compete....thats why our young kids sat the bench under the 4 Horsemen of Miami Football Apocalypse.....you got to make people compete earn it....we just read the star count and signed....well alot of guys that sure didnt turn out well....and we had coaches at all levels who did not understand compete...or fundamentals and execution....and how to develop raw talent into elite talent....

VA Cane

Regarding Hurts....again....not sure how good he is....but he has a winner competitor attitude....let him come by all means...get porn clown and pot head outta here....put em on the field and may the best QB win.....

BigWindyCane

I like JT, but he and Cager both made decisions to transfer. I thank them for their work as Canes and I wish them the best of luck. But in my experience, once a player makes a decision to leave, its best for all parties involved to move forward and don’t look back. JT quit on his team and teammates during the season, and Cager and JT just wanted to move on. I doubt that the Canes coaches and players want them back without some serious explanations and apologies. Both should put all regrets behind them and move forward.

AeroCane

I’ll disagree - JT is an amazing talent - we gave Willis a second chance so let’s give JT a second chance. Cager sucks and was probably asked to leave!

CoCane

Naw...

Is it quitting when you're strong and smart enough to leave because you know you're being coached by idiots???

Why would elite talent settle for less than mediocre development???

Bring JT back 👍

raizecane

I don't think JH comes to Miami unless he is very confident he will start. He has 1 year left and I doubt he goes some place where he is gonna even remotely ride the bench.

AeroCane

I don’t think we are giving Williams enough credit. We may have the qb we need already on the roster.
Not to say that hurts wouldn’t be a great mentor for him, which I think he can be.
And if you watched the sec championship game, you’d realize that hurts is very good.

WhatsUp

Give me JT4 over JH any day

VA Cane

Yes he did make some great plays in the SEC game; had they left him in the NC game in 2018 Clemson would have won that game.

He is a good kid, good runner....but a couple completions in the SEC title game does not qualify him as very good. I look at players over their career; I do like him, and he has a number of positives...but has struggled as a passing QB..... Can he pass on a consistent basis? dont know...but I welcome his attitude and work ethic....he is more than welcome to come and compete...he may be the guy. It has to be seen and done on the field consistently....IMO

I do want to see porn boy and pot boy gone....do with their BS....they have shown me they cannot lead...they are followers of their own wants and wishes....their is no I in TEAM....bottom line...pull their ride and give it to someone who want to win as a TEAM!!!

JaxCane

The fact that Thomas is even considering coming back shows how dysfunctional that offense was on last year. I'm really looking forward to next year.

BigWindyCane

I provided my humble opinion regarding Jalen Hurts, and I could be wrong and I admit that I am not perfect.

IMHO, If Hurts transfers here, the positive buzz (which Manny has already brought to the program since his hire as HC) will continue to rise to new levels. The media will be all over the transfer, and the press corps will be “giddy” over the prospects. Hurts will sell a few season tickets, and the Canes will appear relevant to national media and Canes recruits before a game is even played. Since the OC hire, more quality QB recruits will express interest.

And if anyone can name three returning ACC QBs who are better than Hurts, I would love to hear who they are

Alex D

VA Cane, I agree with the competition part. We do need players that are willing to compete especially at QB. Heck, we are going to have 3 RB's competing for that position, Miami will be great again when players like Robert Burns make a push to make one of the 3 RB's drop on the depth chart. I want Derrick Smith to try and unseat a quality player like Romeo Finley. I want the backup LB's try and take some reps from the starting LB's etc. We have not had that time of completion at the U for years. So, I am okay with these transfer if they want to come here and take jobs.

VA Cane

Windy I think he is good in a lot of ways; I am just not sure of his ability in a dynamic passing game....which I think MD wants to do....BUT I do not know....and it does not matter what I do not know.....I welcome him with open arms....lets find out....he does have games and experience under his belt...a NC...and he is quiet leader not a talker....a good runner.....and a great attitude!!!!
I am sure he is better than anybody we have had....since 2003 or so!!!!!
Lets find out....it could be that Bama was not the right place for him....it sure loses kids early and a lot of coaches....yes they are very good players and coaches....but I suspect that a lot leave because Saban is such an assclown....I would never want any of mine to play there....nor would I want to coach under an asshole....winning is great but treating people like subhumans is not necessary to win IMO he is a crybaby and an AZZ....dont care what he wins....it shows too....JMO

VA Cane

Agree 110% Alex...compete and earn it....we will win that way!!!!

Great article Soup.

I been watching Enos’ offense from Arky and Cmu.

He runs what pro style is supposed to be.

Many “ pro style” ocs use it as an excuse to be bland, conservative, and predictable. Basically lazy offense for p******.

Not Enos. LOTS of formations. LOTS of personnel groupings. Throws from running formations and runs from pass formation. Run game is VERSATILE.

Lots of shotgun and under center but uses spread concepts like jet sweep no matter where the qb lines up. The plays fit together and stack. Has 4-5 plays that look like the SAME play. Not really zone read but the AMPLE play action complements well designed qb runs.

Diaz caught PURE HELL coaching against this guy. That’s why he ran the spec ops infiltration on Bama for him.

His qb at Arky three 3 picks against a BEASTLY Bama defense and they got DOMINATED PHYSICALLY. I mean slobber knocker all over the field and the qb running from the demon horde EVERY PLAY.

They still put up 30!

This is a HOME RUN HIRE!

TruCane81

Jalen Hurts best football is yet to come.

If we get him and JT4 back, he will be a Heisman finalist.

Enos offense can get yards and points even when physically overpowered.

Pray we get Hurtts.

He makes us an instant playoff sleeper and what he did in the sec title is JUST THE BEGINNING!

BigWindyCane

Canes men basketball beat Wake Forest today. Still an uphill battle in the ACC, but the Canes are trying their best in every game.

BigWindyCane

Following today’s game against Wake Forest. Dewan Hernandez’s final appeal will be heard. Definitely need him in ACC play for the Canes to start winning and have a chance to make the NCAA tournament.

VA Cane

Colts-Chiefs.....4th and 1 LB reads play hits back 3 yards deep.....shoulder high.....a grab kinda hit...back gets first...Colts offside 4 times personal foul after 4th down stop....sloppy fundamental tackling, stupid penalties....can you say UM football since 2003....I really hope MD cleans this crap up....we have to......emphasis on fundamentals and thinking for A CHANGE.....

Herbieibis

Like The Herb said before, I'd rather have a QB come in who is going to be here more than one year, sort of like Martel. Hurts is a winner, no doubt and a very good runner but behind the line we have and the line Bama had is no comparison. Them wholes as wide as the ocean at Bama would be a crease here. He is not an elite passer but he has gotten better.
If this is what it takes to show these greenhorns how it's done then fine. We still got line issues. Manny will figure it out.
