Go Canes!!

Ohio State and Oklahoma did the exact same thing the Canes just did when hiring their head coaches.

Wish we had interviewed other candidates but after reading about the interactions between Manny and the school, the need to move quickly seems more clear and justified.

Like Co said, I’ll wait and see who he hires, then we’ll see where we are.

thirstybuzzardcane

Miami fans are terrible! Just chill out and see how it plays out!

solarcane

Hill,
I agree. I also think Kansas State fans are far more realistic about who they are.

For some reason we hang onto the past, always conjuring up past players and coaches as if memory of them has any impact on kids that weren't even born when we were somebody.

If we can get the jucos to plug holes in the roster temporarily you have a point.

I'm still sticking my opinion I made 10 years ago that Miami is and will be
A pretty good team that goes 8-4 with a 10 win season now and then for years and years with no NC in sight.

BigWindyCane

Tony, Co and TBC,
I agree. It’s not complicated. Winning will definitely improve recruiting, and winning the ACC Coastal Division is very possible with the right coaching staff in place

IraqiCane

Phillip Dorsett just broke his ankle.

ColaCane

OMG Hurns just broke his ankle after a GREAT catch! Poor kid☹️

IraqiCane

Correction Allen Herns is not Phillip Dorsett

ColaCane

Standing O for Hurns!!

ESPN has Top 10 Natl Title games of all time, Canes in 2 of them. Both losses, against OSO, and PSU. Kind of surprised they didn't include our first against Neb, that was a helluva game!

Kansas State doesnt have what we have, an ability to contend in 3 years time, its what keeps some fans perpetually optimistic and delusional. Butch would have sent a shockwave through SoFL. He gets Schiano and kids are listening. Miami recruiting will always be about how our university will prepare you for the NFL. Sorry but up-and-comers will always have to prove it to these kids. We can not recruit like we are Wisconsin, "make the crib great."

And that might work again at Miami, if we're coming off a National Title with 4 first rounders and 3 second rounders. But we're not, and so outsiding of looking real good while winning the Coastal next year, and putting Garvin in the first round... and hoping we dont lose Simpson... then we'll see if we can SLOWLY work our way back to national relevance and getting these kids to sign. Manny has never recruited at a high level though, we'll see if he can figure this out, after all we have to thanks to Friends and Family U.

ColaCane

Anybody have any intel on what recruits are left that we're trying to land next month?

TonyCane

Dude, that should be the realistic goal over the next two to three years. We have more talent than anyone in the Coastal - as usual - it’s simply a matter of good philosophies on both sides of the ball. We’ve been conditioned by a decade of mistakes - first on defense and now offense - that we can no longer be relevant or even win the Coastal. That’s absurd.

And Miami is not K State.

Grad transfers and 3*s Hail Marys like Emerson & Washington.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Posted by: TonyCane | January 05, 2019 at 09:10 PM

Even if we have more talent it wont matter if the teams we are going up against are smarter than us or if our thin roster gets injured. Here's my question... whats the over/under on Ws & Ls that gets Diaz & James removed?

ColaCane

Gotcha Dude. Maybe we can get some diamonds in the rough?

Herbieibis

Coco,
Bottom of the dam barrel.
That's what's left. The bones have been picked over.
Bump s bunch of one year wonders and grad transfers. That ain't helping u build depth for the long run and it's just laziness. No need to start recruiting for next year just wait until july to start crooting for 20'. Then we won't have do many decoms.

ColaCane

Maybe we can get a couple decent o-line cruits that are decent Herb.

Lol, yeah, sure, okay...

What year is this?

Dude on a Pale Horse

Posted by: Herbieibis | January 05, 2019 at 09:22 PM

Has to be a full 25.

QB: 2
RB: 1
TE: 1
WR: 3
OT: 3
OG: 2
DE: 3
DT: 3
LB: 2
CB: 3
S: 2

ColaCane

Well if we get some 3 star OL recruits and an O-LINE coach who can ACTUALLY help them get BETTER, then who knows. It's all dependant on who Manny brings in.

Herbieibis

Dude,
Listen, every team has 3 star players that develp into pretty good players, like Jacobs from Bama. How many 3 stars does Bama start? Clemson has a 5 star QB, 3 five star WR's and at least on 5 star on their Oh line. I haven't even mentioned the Dee yet. 3 stars sprinkled here and there u will be okay. If u want to keep on watching Bama, Clemson And OSU every keep on thinking all these 3 stars are going to g to get u a ship. Miami wants to compete then it needs to be bringing in at least 14 to 16 4 & 5 star players a cycle, if you are bringing in 25, which we haven't done in about 5 years. Losing Good was no big deal, the dude hasn't even been playing corner, losing Nunn, who we had for maybe 2 weeks, no big deal. 3 star QB's R a dime a dozen in Flo. When u start watching the Surtain, Campbell and Stevenson's of the world walk out your back yard u got problems. Would u have wanted to come play with this cluster effed team if u we're a player. Kids now a days are used to winning and want to play for a winner and that is painfully obvious by what's leaving. We show some dam consistency with the offense and maybe kids will get excited to come play. Win some games that really matter and they will start to get excited. No this ain't on Manny, this is on that lazy ass Richt and his no developing a QB, free loading son, Get it!

TruCane81

Looked at the list of pro bowl players from Florida, and two things stuck out:
1. There are as many, if not more, former 2-3 star recruits out of high school , as opposed to 4-5 star recruits
2. None played for the University of Miami- and half weren’t even recruited by the University of Miami.

CMD must change this, among other things.

Posted by: BigWindyCane | January 05, 2019 at 01:00 AM

This is why player development is SO HUGE!

We lament the bagmen snatching the elite recruits.

But what about all these guys we let leave for average out of state programs who BALL?

We get trolled and stood up on signing day by the top 100 then scramble after these guys after IGNORING THEM THEIR ENTIRE CAREERS, and wonder why we can’t sign them making a half assed offer 5 minutes before their hat party.

We are short on depth but can’t recruit with Purdue, Minnesota, or Louisville and the like for solid guys. Then got the audacity to act surprised holding our d**** on signing day!

But I get it. Our coaches suck and know it!

They have to have 5 stars to beat puke and uvag because they can’t coach they way out a wet paper bag!

Dude on a Pale Horse

If it were me, 4* DB Sanguinetti would be my top priority for FS and 3* ATH Emerson would be redshirted for SS or ST. That'd make it so we hit numbers at S. For CB, we might be able to get by on a 3* (assuming Bethel is gonna stick) that will redshirt. GA has some uncommitted 6'1" 180 guys, I have no idea if they are worth kicking the tires on.

VA Cane

Starting with HS, JJ and DE....even BD...we did not know what we were getting.....we hoped and had experienced some high moments....but each hire was no sure thing....same with Clappy..he won...and i think everyone thought we would keep rolling....little did we know....Onion AlPa CMR.....I do not think anyone thought ok now we will be back.....I never did....so MD is another shot in the dark...like RS he had good D....but we can only wait hope and see.....

TruCane81

You are not 6’0. You can’t play corner for us.

You are not 6’5. Here at Miami we want y’all receivers.

Hey buddy we measured your arm length and the are a quarter inch too short. HARD PASS!

We really liked your tape but if you put on 35 lbs of bad weight, you will look like our guys at pedophile state used to. Here’s some snicker bars, get to work!

What happened to just signing ball players?

Every year I watch guys on the boards hyping BALLERS who WANT TO COME but we slow play em if not outright ignore them.

They leave. They ball. We suck.

The incompetence and laziness of our approach is sickening.

And people think TRULY ELITE players would put there lives in the hands of a program like that?

Lol at this not being on Manny also. He's been DC here for 3 years and those guys you mentioned, Surtain & Campbell... that was under his watch. But Im not even mad about those guys, because we got three 4* CBs in that cycle plus a 3* to take a chance on. Where did I make any claim that we should rely on 3*s? All I said is we arent getting them either, and that you can win ball games at Miami by properly developing those guys, guys like Perryman, Young, Jaquan, McIntosh, Trent Harris, etc, etc, etc, etc. No you wont compete with Bama, but in case you missed it, we just lost 6 games playing in the Coastal. I want 4s & 5s as much as anyone, but more than that I am interested in a clear plan of stacking good players. Nunn is an excellent prospect, and while I agree about Good he had freak speed... maybe he can be a KR down the line, that alone can be a key to victory. Speaking of lazy, lazy cones from the top down and we have a very lazy admin. That MR/JR thing you are talking about went on for a year too long. Get it?

ColaCane

My reasoning is we NEED O-LINE help IMMEDIATLEY, and IF there are some decent 3star o linemen left, snap em up and HOPEFULLY our new OL coach can make them better?

Dude on a Pale Horse

Posted by: ColaCane | January 05, 2019 at 10:15 PM

There are not. 3* are almost always redshirt guys, especially on the OL... and the dumb@asses you were supporting a couple of weeks ago we going after a out of state 2* that weighs 240, rather than a local 3* that was 6'5" 290.

TonyCane

Dude, while I have a good feeling in this hire, if Manny wins only 11 games over the next two seasons, he’s out.

That should not happen, but I’d imagine a 4-8 season in 2019 followed by a 7-6 finish in 2020 would be a severe underperformance. Miami easily has the talent to win the Coastal. I’m expecting that Manny will make the right hires on offense.

BigWindyCane

I saw Amari Cooper (2012 4 star from Miami Northwestern Bulls) and Allen Hurns (2010 3 star from Carol City Chiefs) play in high school. Both were good, but there were several other 2-4 star recruits who eventually made it to the NFL and are playing at a high level. Antonio Brown, a2006 recruit from Miami Norland was unranked with 2 stars or less).

We got Hurns but the Shannon episode hurt us with Bridgewater and the rest of the Northwestern recruits. The others who eventually made it to the NFL weren’t even recruited by the Canes.

IMO, CMD is correct in that the Canes must put in the work and rely on their own personal evaluation of recruits, not on recruiting websites. Five stars tend to be better than three stars, but it’s not always true. Websites get it wrong, and they can’t evaluate player development and potential.

The Canes aren’t Clemson, Alabama or UGA, but they have the advantage of location. IMO, the Canes have to recognize their weaknesses, and instead heavily utilize their advantages and strengths and build their program on those strengths. I think that is the vision that CMD is articulating, and I think he can succeed where the post-Butch coaches have failed

TruCane81

One thing that gives me hope is that while Clemson is doing great in recruiting now, they rose back to prominence on the back of talent than on paper was equivalent to Al Golden’s teams. We’ve been handicapped since 2011 by terrible coordinators, first for five years on defense and then for the last three on offense. IF...if we can get good (and I don’t even mean great coaching) on both sides of the ball simultaneously, we have the talent to put together a string of 9 and 10 win seasons. That gets us back into the conversation for elite recruits.

As someone else said, all we had to do was average 28 points this season and we would have been 11-1. That’s a lot different to a recruit than a 7-6 squad.

Posted by: TonyCane | January 05, 2019 at 02:31 PM

THIS!!!!!!!!!

Damn realism.

I’m gonna ride the 12% bus EVERY preseason til we crash it with a bs loss.

But I know we are a LONG WAY from being a top 5 program.

However, the only thing standing between us and being a perineal top 10-15 program dominating the Woestal division and playing reasonably tough in acc championship games is the CORCHINATING and special ed recruiting tactics.

We are a real head coach away from relevance AS ALWAYS.

Let us pray Manny can find a way to be that guy even with the current obstacles.

Never.

Herbieibis

Well the only shot we have left or if there are any left is on Feb 5. To find some high school players.
Manny knows his head coaching career relies on the offensive side of the ball

He better get the perfect OC. Go after Trooper Taylor who is a very good Cooter. I know the OC hold has got to Brad Scott, another good recruiter. We have enough 3 star recruiters on the defensive side but with help from the Oh side it will balance out. Depth of talent will really be an issue after this debacle. Not any real depth of talent on the O-Line or at LB. Thank goodness all the LB'S are back. Do
T has bodies but not enough talent. We are still short a couple DE'S and at least 3 DB'S.
