In Manny I trust. It amazes me how guys who has been so wrong about everything can question a guy who has only did right since he has been here...SMH

When we beat Clemson Arse next year watch how fast that jump on the jock of Manny's Canes!!

86Cane

NEW BLOG IS UP!

Go Canes!!

Can't put Jimmy in the same class as Saban.

One of the characteristics of greatness is sustained excellence, something only guys like Saban, Belichek, Wooden, Dean Smith and Coach K can claim.

Win titles in multple decades, while staying at or near the top the entire time is what separates the all time greats.

jmo...

Looks like our Game against Florida in Orlando will be in Primetime at 8PM on Saturday August 31st most likely on ABC.

Herbieibis

Oh I don't about Nelson. Maybe back in the early 90's we take him and beef him up to 280 to 285. Tackles today are up in the 310 maybe 320. Maybe this dude is a candidate for DE.
No nothing about Stubs as a coach, except been toiling around the bottom feeding schools. Does have a Midwestern back ground. Enos must love him. I think I might of went after Trooper Taylor. Dude can recruit but we will see him down in Florida recruiting for Duke.
If u will notice most, if not all the OH coaches have that Central Michigan background. I guess that is where Manny feels we need to get the beef from and he might be right.
We use scour New Jersey for players back in the day. Got to do something different, So as long says it's Ok, it's got to be okay. Whooo!

86Cane

Then there is the Legend of The Jello Shot Queen. That is a story for another day...

86Cane

He had the coffee shop in Ocala, I think he said he was making some Cat 5 brew? That was like 2011 he had the Canespace shirts. I forgotten how even found this place but I do know I love coming here on a daily basis, it's a hard being a cane in the 352.

Posted by: 🐜🌀 | January 17, 2019 at 05:23 PM

Yes, that was OcalCane, he had the coffee shop in Ocala and the mugs. I was making and distributing the T-Shirts and we had the Canespace Banner signed by all the fans.

We all thought that Randy Shannon and Mike Barrow would never lose a game EVER! We were wrong.

Those were the "Glory Days" of the blog. Blogging was "new" back then and over 1000 posts during a game and Canespace game watch parties were all the rage.

thirstybuzzardcane

This is exactly what kind of kids we need to look at for OT! Nelson is also a strong kid!

Seriously, how can people bash this hire! People on here have no clue what the guy is like! Chill out! Let's see how it plays out! All I know is Stubblefield holds the record for the most reception in a season so he obviously did something right.

VA Cane

great post solar...that guy sure knew how to win eh? Yet he was never a big screamer or yeller....i know from my own experience, I teach and coach, but my guys are the winners....they go out and execute the fundamentals over and over.....they love winning, and I teach them life is so much better by working hard and winning....they are my focus....I love coaching....I am not great....I am successful because I have incredible kids who give me all they have, and I have the support of the parents....they like what I but all credit to the kids on the field and the parents behind them....

VA Cane

I would agree Tru.....I think Saban is starting to feel it...lotsa people declaring, coaches want out.....winning should be fun not that stressful....

Terrance Sullivan

Extremely strong takes Solar and VA

roachcane77

I'm backing MannyD, (and his hires), until he lets us down.

So far, so good, as far as I'm concerned!

solarcane

Thanks Tru

This is a little of what VA was saying

“There is another side [to ego] that can wreck a team or an organization. That is being distracted by your own importance. It can come from your insecurity in working with others. It can be the need to draw attention to yourself in the public arena. It can be a feeling that others are a threat to your own territory. These are all negative manifestations of ego, and if you are not alert to them, you get diverted and your work becomes diffused. Ego in these cases makes people insensitive to how they work with others and it ends up interfering with the real goal of any group efforts.”

Preach VA

VA Cane

He has had a lot of help along the way.....and has come to believe in his own legend....thats dangerous...hell I am already doing legwork to see who i lose who I get on my young guys and college team....no time to dwell on what i am...i just want to win....
Saban tried that shit in the NFL....how'd that work with big grown men???
no so good.....he sucked as a pro coach....That guy in Foxsboro is the master of coaches...
another good one I knew because my godfather coached in Oakland....Madden.....I read a quote by him once that said..."be on time, do what I tell you and play like all hells broken loose on Sunday" he got it. Lombardi had it down really good....they feared the old man but they loved him too.....I just never have to be a jerk the kids, parents, fans, school athletic people, other teams and coaches.....and i teach that....we just do our job....Saban is so rude to people....he talks to reporters like shit.....yea they may ask something dumb....but they are not always players or people who played sports....its not necessary to be that way to win....I LOVE winning...its our goal....but man I want to enjoy and love winning with the people i love!!!!!

solarcane

Jimmy Johnson was every bit as good a coach as Nick Saban.

Jerome Brown said every player on those teams loved Jimmy because he understood them and stuck up for them.

Brown also said they knew they had to perform or JJ would sit them on the bench, and with their team talent they might never get back on the field.

So Jimmy's guys loved the man and feared the process.

Nick is that guy that worked hard and built his brand to mythical proportion and can't admit he didn't do it all by himself.

VA Cane

On whether it is better to be loved or feared...

"One should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.” Safer is better, too, because you won't have to watch your back as much. People will be less likely to conspire against someone they fear than someone they love."

Nicolo Machiavelli, The Prince

"We do not display our greatness by placing ourselves at one extremity, but rather by being at both at the same time, and filling up the whole of the space between them."
Blaise Pascal

Interesting takes huh? I guess Saban is the first take....and it works for him....great coach winner...but full of hate and ill will when its not his way. In my coaching career of 41 years, I have found the ability to touch both like Pascal....I would certainly substitute success for greatness as I am not great...just successful....and I am not comparing myself to Saban at all!!

I love my guys, I help them, encourage them and teach them. I am hard on them; they work they practice we run we bike lift....its all year. On occasion, I will growl, but do not bite. I have given a few team lectures, but I have learned that a error on or off the field is a teaching moment. I will take a guy aside, and review the grades, or the issue in class, the fight with parents, or the missed block tackle or assignment. I Can be very firm....i am not a soft guy... but I have found that yelling or cursing at a guy, especially in front of the others, the parents, the cheerleaders, the people who come to practice or games is not necessary.
I think over the years this ability has my guys kinda both. They know if there is an issue, it will not be swept away, regardless of who you are. It will be solved asap....yet my guys know i care about them, and I put all I have into each player to succeed....in all things...Remember my saying...."Family, Life, School, and Football....in that order!"

I feel pretty good that my guys love me and fear me....and that I am always fair....JMO

Coaching at Clemson vs coaching at Alabama

Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

Terrance Sullivan

LOL Saban is great but he cant spit shine Belichek shoes in my opinion. He is definitely the Greatest College Coach ever but Belichek is the Greatest Football Coach ever.

MDCane

Personally, I think the NCAA finally caught up with Bama. The gig is up.

MDCane

Gen Patton said he would rather have the men respect him rather than love him.

Terrance Sullivan

I know Nick is a protege of Bill Belichek but one difference is Belichek is hard on his coaches but not demeaning and his coaches and players love that guy. Nick his players and coaches respect him but few love him. At least that's my interpretation.

solarcane

VA
I been saying it forever.
Those Woody Hayes cuss out your coaches and punch players days are long gone.

Nick gets in his coaches faces way to much, you can see on their faces there is no fun rolling with the tide

HawaiiCane

Awww.... that's it! That's all he's got. #thesehoesaintloyal

VA Cane

Don't get it twisted — Josh Gattis has the utmost respect for Nick Saban and what he learned on staff during his one season at Alabama.
“When Coach (Jim) Harbaugh called, it kind of caught me off guard because I had just left a meeting with Nick Saban getting my butt chewed out for 20 minutes telling him I was leaving and he was trying to get me to stay. It did not go over well,” Gattis said. “If there was any band-aid to the bruise or whatever that he left on me, it was that phone call. It was exciting to hear his voice and to talk to him personally.”
From
This shows you what an AZZ Saban is; people leave kids leave because he treats them like shit. Yes he wins and will continue to....but I love seeing them lose. Great program....Bryant, Perkins, Curry, Stallings were good coaches and people....Yes Saban wins...but nobody could like the assclown.....hes a jerk!!! Lets get to their level and kick his AZZ!!!

Article on The Athletic...

‘Where’s Dan?’: The story of Alabama football’s rampant coaching staff turnover

A blowout national championship loss to Clemson may not have been the biggest shock Nick Saban got last week.

Four days later in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was about to have its regular morning football staff meeting when Saban noticed someone was missing.

“Hey, where’s Dan?” Saban asked staffers, according to people with knowledge of the meeting, in reference to Dan Enos, the Tide’s quarterbacks coach who had just been promoted to become Alabama’s new offensive coordinator.

The offensive coordinator vacancy had been created by Mike Locksley leaving to become the head coach at Maryland. Much of the staff was on the road recruiting, but Saban and Enos were supposed to interview offensive line coaching candidates to replace Brent Key, who had taken a job at his alma mater Georgia Tech after three years with the Crimson Tide.

“Where’s Dan?”

Enos had done a terrific job as the Alabama quarterbacks coach in his first season in the...

....uhhhh, Manny Diaz has him taking over in the 305!!!

T Sully, you are just acting like a little b*tch! As Redwine said, "Don't Be A Fan Later!" #thesehoesaintloyal

Terrance Sullivan

HawaiiCane Man WTF Ever. Manny on that BS with that one and Cooney need to take the best offer available to him, and Give Manny the Deuces sign.

HawaiiCane

T Sully... that seems like a gut reaction and totally uncalled for. What so far has led you to believe that Manny isn't looking out for Cooney? Additionally, keep in mind that this is Enos' offense and he has say, if not final, on who is being brought on to his staff. I'm going to have to say T Sully.... GTFOH with that!

🐜 🌀

Didn't Ocala Cane have the coffee mugs?

Terrance Sullivan

Manny is screwing up Cooney should of been hired as WR Coach. Trash Hire SMDH! Cooney needs to go elsewhere where he is valued at apparently Manny don't appreciate him SMH.

CoCane

A lot of people don't like the Stubblefield hire at WR coach. His track record isn't impressive at all. I've never heard of him so I don't know. We'll see...

HawaiiCane

Looks like Tyler Stubblefield will be joining the 'Canes staff as WR coach and a great recruiter pick-up for the 'Canes at TE coach is Stephen Field, who was on Mario Cristobal's Oregon staff. Also used to coach at Miami NW, Central and Glades, I think.

Ok Manny who's going to be the WR & TE coaches? It just might help 2 have those, yet unfilled positions out on the recruiting trail.

Saban keeps all his coach he's around and as soon as the bowl game is over with 3/4 of them are gone

I'm thinking that Miami is very confident that Martell will be eligible right away. He's rooming with our 2 top receivers. Maybe I'm looking into it to much!

So Blackman is in the transfer portal too. FSU looks like they’ll be entering next season with just one scholarship quarterback.

Loving this off-season.

Herbieibis

Saban's best recruiter gone Tosh Lupoi, gone to Da Browns.
Saban keeps all his coach he's around and as soon as the bowl game is over with 3/4 of them are gone. He stacks coaches like he does recruits. At least before they go they already had the number one recruiting class. He could Stevie Wonder to coach h and win 10 or 11 games with all the talent he has brought in.

Ok Bud, 6 am?

Ok I heard that!... 9:30 am it is...

solarcane

Transfers we remember 3 that's all

Cam Newton, Auburn (2010)
Newton started his career at Florida but announced his intention to transfer after charges were dropped stemming from an arrest regarding a stolen laptop. He played a year at Blinn College before transferring to Auburn, where he won the Heisman while leading the Tigers to the BCS championship in 2010. Newton, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, later earned NFL MVP honors and led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50.

solarcane

Transfers we remember 2

Colt Brennan, Hawaii (2005-07)
Brennan was dismissed from Colorado's football team after the 2004 season, spent a year at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif., then transferred to Hawaii. He emerged as a record-setting passer with 14,193 yards and 131 touchdowns over his three-year career there. Brennan also led the Warriors to an appearance in the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

solarcane

Transfers we remember

Troy Aikman, UCLA (1987-88)
Aikman didn't fit in well as an option quarterback under Barry Switzer at Oklahoma, so he transferred to UCLA to lead the Bruins to consecutive 10-win seasons. Aikman closed his college career — which included consensus All-American status, a Davey O'Brien Award and a third-place finish in the '88 Heisman vote — with a victory against Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. The No. 1 pick in the 1988 NFL Draft led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories

The kid's first commitment was when he was a 13 year old seventh grader. He dbcommited to Urban Meyer as the wheels were falling off the bus for Sumlin at Texas A&M.

That whole three commit thing is kind of a low hanging fruit criticism.

Don't know about the rest.

86Cane

Ill be in charge of icing the beer on "The Bus" and luring talent with Ribs!

Posted by: NativeCane | January 16, 2019 at 04:27 PM

U ain't got no skillz...EXCEPT for killing deer, chain saws, cooking ribs and luring college aged girls into your lair. Wait, now that sounds pretty damn impressive!

solarcane

Rivals’ Mike Farrell said “He’ll have to be a very special player to overcome his lack of height [5-11] at the next level and beyond. The other concerns I have are his inability to handle criticism, which has been proven a few times on social media sensitivity, how well he will handle competing and possibly having to wait his turn. Also, his three college commitments concern me as a future decision-maker and leader. I think he’s one of the kids in this class that could need to be de-recruited the most because he’s a star on the high school level and that might have gone to his head.”

Martell is very good at the read option, has excellent mobility and escapability, a strong arm and has been highly accurate in his playing career.

solarcane

▪ Here was some of the feedback on Martell coming out of Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas in 2017, where he was 43-0:

Rivals’ Adam Gorney: “The two things that stand out to me most about him are his unflinching confidence in himself and his teammates and his incredible competitiveness level....

“Martell is phenomenal in games, with unique abilities to make the toughest throws look easy, to put the ball right on the money time and time again, to prolong plays with his athletic ability so receivers can come back and get open, and to always show up in the big moments. In his sophomore and junior seasons, Martell played in a lot of huge, big-time high school football games and never once did he crack under the pressure. He thrives under it. The kid is an absolute winner on every level and that’s why I think he deserves to be the No. 1 dual-threat QB in this class.” (Rivals ended up rating him the No. 2 dual threat QB.)

solarcane

Williams’ father said Wednesday that Williams will remain with the Hurricanes and Martell’s decision doesn’t change that.

“He’s fine,’ Williams’ father said. “He’s committed to being there. It has never been an issue with competition with Jarren. The cream always rises to the top.”

We hear Williams is excited to work with new UM offensive coordinator Dan Enos.

Actually I lost my Dad last year so I'm gonna give a Tumbler away on his birthday. He was a UM grad class of '55 and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He's the real reason I'm here.

June 12 was his birthday so I'll figure out the best time to have the drawing. Known trolls need not apply!!

Go 'canes!!

Damn Soup thanks for the kind words!! We've been blogging together since the advent of blogging!! I will never understand why The Sun Sentinel let us all get away. When Omar left that shiz shut right down.

It's been a wild ride for sure.

Next Tumbler give away will be opening day, time to be determined. (Previous winners ineligible VA Cane! LOL!)

Go 'canes!!

Florida lost 5 Jr's to the NFL. Their offensive line will be week, very week according to my gator friend!

This BS with Oklahoma is another disgusting part of this sport. A coach, who gets paid millions, can go anywhere but you want to block a kid from transferring where he wants to go. Even after you brought in someone to replace him.

If Jesus Christ transferred to Miami there would be people on here second guessing him because they heard Richt mention his name in passing.

Relax, Manny knows what he is doing.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Florida is the key to the whole d@mn season. 9-3 should be the floor.

As far as fans complaining goes...

This isnt Penn State where the fans cover for the program no matter what. Miami is the Wild Bunch. Players throwing shade at fans, fans throwing shade at coaches, coaches throwing shade at the media... bring it on, thats who we are, so lets all just have some fun with it and no one take yourself or others to seriously. Its Hurricanes social media, not Trump/Obama Facebook, no reason to unfriend eachother.

Old Skool

And them ribs are irresistible

I think we should all know by now that playing QB is no longer about how tall you are. Ryan Leaf was almost 6'6"... meanwhile Russel Wilson is 5'10". Smaller QBs are taking over because its all about slinging the football now. The OC will make or break any QB... period.
