The No. 35 University of Miami men's tennis team wrapped up the weekend in dominant fashion, posting a 7-0 victory over Clemson Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Following the victory, Miami (8-3, 2-0 ACC) ended a seven-match losing streak against the Tigers (6-6, 0-2 ACC), while also opening ACC action 2-0 for the first time since beginning conference play 3-0 during the 2011 season.
"Great effort by our guys to get back-to-back ACC victories," head coach Aljosa Piric said. "It is always tough to win back-to-back games in the ACC and for our guys to come out today and win the doubles point and then go out and win six singles matches, two days after beating Georgia Tech, just shows that our guys are ready to compete. Looking forward to seeing what these guys are capable of doing moving forward. We will take a couple days off before returning to practice in order to get ready for College Match Day against UCF, up in Orlando."
The Hurricanes jumped out to the early lead through doubles action and never looked back.
Competing at No. 3 doubles, freshman Franco Aubone and Francisco Bastias posted a 6-4 victory over Teodor Giusca and Carlos Kelaidis.
Moments later, redshirt junior Dane Dunlap and junior Stephen Madonia defeated Yizhou Liu and Simon Baudry, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for Miami.
Competing on court 1, sophomores Adria Soriano Barrera and Tatsuki Shimamoto held a 5-4 advantage over Pierre-Louis Dodens and Jacob Jahn before play was halted.
In singles, the Hurricanes continued to cruise winning the opening set on all six courts.

What is baseball?
Coach Enos before any of them throw a pass in front of him.
You must be responsible and diligent and prepared and you must have your act together.
The message, he explained, was “setting the tone of what the standard is going to be, what I expect from them from an accountability standpoint on and off the field to be a championship quarterback and leader of this team.”
Seems like Williams was as big a clown as the rest of them but lower key.
Enos loves Martell says he is a leader of men

A six-pack of Canes notes on a Tuesday:
▪ When longtime recruiting guru Tom Lemming was in South Florida recently to watch Manny Diaz run his first junior day as UM’s head coach, one thought kept coming to mind:
“He is a young version of Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer,” Lemming said of perhaps the three most successful college football coaches of the 21st century.
Lemming, who has interacted with hundreds of college coaches in four decades evaluating high school talent, sees something special in Diaz.
“Manny is one of the best recruiters in the country,” Lemming said. “Miami will be a top 10 team next year [with their recruiting class]. Manny is enthusiastic, hard working and aggressive. Some coaches have golf as hobby. Manny will have recruiting as a hobby. He’s very personable, connects with the kids a lot better than most in his profession.”
As departing senior Sheldrick Redwine told NBC-6: “Players love [Diaz]; they all respect him.”
Lemming, incidentally, has high regard for Mark Richt but didn’t have the same regard for the entirety of the former UM staff — in terms of recruiting ability — as this one.
He believes this staff will be more effective landing top players.
▪ Lemming believes UM landed a gem in Belen Class of 2020 four-star running back Don Chaney Jr., who’s a non-binding Canes commitment.
“Chaney has been part of my all American team for freshmen, sophomores and juniors,” he said. “He’s muscular, gained a lot of weight since I first saw him. He can make an immediate impact for them [in 2020]. One of better running backs in the South.”
UM’s 2020 class is rated third by Rivals.
▪ In ESPN’s initial listing of its top 300 recruits for 2020, UM has commitments from the players who are 59th (Belen’s aforementioned Chaney Jr.), 91st (Doral Academy defensive end Samuel Anaele), 100th (Palm Beach Central receiver Bryan Robinson), 103rd (Hollywood Chaminade Madonna defensive tackle Willie Moise), 169th (Naples tight end Dominic Mammarelli), and 271st (Miami Southridge receiver Marcus Fleming).
So six of UM’s nine commitments are in ESPN’s top 300.
▪ Close associates of UM players say they love new strength and conditioning coach David Feeley, that he’s motivating and knowledgeable and that players are making gains in the weight room.
A bunch of players were frustrated with former strength and conditioning coach Gus Felder, with one noting that players would sometimes show up to work with Felder and he wasn’t there, or that the doors would be locked at certain hours, preventing former Canes players from using the facility.
▪ The Twitter account @PickSixPreviews had posted some fascinating stuff about what schools have produced the most draft picks at certain positions this century.
UM ranks first in tight ends drafted (12) and offensive linemen drafted (18, tied with Notre Dame and Wisconsin).
UM is sixth in defensive linemen drafted this century (19; LSU is first with 24) and seventh in linebackers (14; Ohio State is first with 19) and sixth in receivers with 13 (LSU is first with 18) and sixth in defensive backs with 21 (Ohio State was first with 28).
▪ Quick stuff: According to Canesport, UM is no longer in the mix for two-time All-ACC offensive guard Parker Braun, a grad transfer who is considering Texas, UF and Ohio State.... UM’s basketball game at Duke at 4 p.m. Saturday will be a full national telecast on CBS, with Spero Dedes and Clark Kellogg on the call. Miami plays at Wake Forest on

No surprises there . . .

The Florida Gators versus Miami Hurricanes 2019 season opener could be moved up a week to Aug. 24, a source told the Orlando Sentinel.
The game is slated for Aug. 31 at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium, but the date change would better showcase the first matchup between the long-standing rivals since 2013. It also would mark the earliest start to the football season for either school.
Before the move can happen, however, the NCAA would have to approve it. A decision is expected soon.
Soup may get it all:
The game will pit UF second-year coach Dan Mullen against former assistant coach Manny Diaz.
Diaz, who will be in his first season replacing Mark Richt, was Mullen’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Mississippi State in 2010 and again in 2015.
This will be the first meeting between UF and UM in six years, when the Hurricanes edged the Gators 21-16 in South Florida.
UF had won the longtime rivals’ previous meeting, in 2008, to snap a six-game losing streak in a series that began in 1938. The Hurricanes lead the series with a 29-26 record.
The date change will move the game from Labor Day weekend, when most college football teams open their seasons.
UF has opened the season on Aug. 30 three times, most recently in 2014 at home against Idaho — a game eventually canceled by severe weather.
Miami’s earliest start was on Aug. 27, 1984, as defending national champions against Auburn. The Hurricanes defeated the Tigers 20-18 in East Rutherford, N.J.

Ha GC that would definitely seal me not coming for real and just stay at home and watch on TV considering I am going to The @UNC Game and all Home Games. So as it looks now I will Go to @UNC all Home Games and @Duke so 8 Games works for me. If they make those changes I can cancel all Hotel reservations except a couple for those that are going to the Game and we can do our Canespace Fall Weekend Reunion for VT weekend.

This looks like it’s definitely going to happen:
Pending approval by NCAA’s Football Oversight Committee, Florida-Miami opener in Orlando will be moved from Aug. 31 to Aug. 24 w/a primetime kickoff, sources told @Stadium. 1st reported by Orlando Sentinel. Only other FBS game that day is Arizona at Hawaii
