NSD 2019 passed today without too much fanfare or hoopla. The Miami Hurricanes under new lead dog Manny Diaz finished as expected, maybe slightly below what we all wanted, but above what many may have expected.
In other words, it was a solid class and finish for Diaz in year one.
In other news...In its best defensive showing since Nov. 22, 2017, the University of Miami men's basketball team blew past Notre Dame, 62-47, Wednesday night at the Watsco Center.
Holding the Fighting Irish to the fewest points since holding La Salle to 46 last season, Miami was led by a pair of Canes who posted double doubles. It seems someone has been going to church on a regular basis!
Finishing the afternoon with a game-high 15 points, Dejan Vasiljevic pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to secure his first career double-double. The junior guard was joined by senior teammate Anthony Lawrence II, who posted 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The duo recorded the program's first pair of double-doubles on the same night, since Davon Reed (10 pts, 12 reb) and Kamari Murphy (11 pts, 13 reb) accomplished the feat against Buffalo in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March, 17, 2016.
Just commenting to ruin someone’s “1st.”

All of us hoping that FSU would go into the season with just Blackman at quarterback...our hopes have been shattered. The Seminoles now have depth, having dipped deep into the talent pool to sign this heralded quarterback this evening:

I know it sounds harsh Tsully, but those guys are not committed to this team and their teammates...that is one thing I do not understand...or tolerate. Both are wrong.....they know better. I say cut bait and go now.....

Not sure whats up here in VA.....I did not vote for any of these guys; I am a conservative but not Republican. This state has changed a lot in my 60 years. Th Dems will tell you they take care of all the down trodden....Repubs are racist....looks different now don't it....
I say Gov and AG resign now....Gov cannot govern with that pic and his lies...he is twisting badly with those stories. AG said he should go...then he comes out with his tale. Both need to go; they are wrong and the people want them gone...no matter what.
Lt Gov has been accused....and she has a lawyer and a story....I cannot say either is right or wrong; innocent until proven guilty and she needs to be heard. Truth must be found first!

After reading Tony's list of current payers I think it is eay to say that we are still 2-3 years away from being talented enough to win BIG.
10 wins this year.
Top 15 recruiting class next year.
Then we can have a conversation about being back or relevant again. I see some talent, but not dominating talent.
Posted by: 86Cane | February 06, 2019 at 10:45 PM
On a separate, non-football note, who as seen "They Shall Not Grow Old"? I took my son to see it two weeks ago and it was fantastic.
Posted by: TonyCane | February 06, 2019 at 10:46 PM
I agree 100% TSully....they are not positives regarding teamwork....working together...focusing on a goal....winning the way we should....knotheads that need to go!
Well put 86...we are 2 or 3 years away....we got to get away from that straight pro set all costs run or die game. You have to run, but you can use pro set and spread to open it up.
If things go right, we could win 10 as you say....FL and FSU will be tough games....if we do win 10 I will be pleased. We must build on this year!
Posted by: VA Cane | February 06, 2019 at 11:10 PM
Talent is there.....not top notch dominating talent like you point out.....and depth is not there either. This seasons play, the bowl, and CMR leaving really hurt recruiting....talent and depth.
Manny did a pretty good job of salvaging things....it could have been far worse, and looked as if it would be...
Posted by: VA Cane | February 06, 2019 at 11:12 PM
Actually, on paper this will likely be the strongest team that we have fielded since 2010, and it won't have the depth issues that the '10 or '09 squads had. Very quick run down of four and five star talent:
2006: 46 (4 five stars)
2007: 42 (5 five stars)
2008: 42 (4 five stars)
2009: 41 (4 five stars)
2010: 39 (4 five stars)
2011: 28 (3 five stars)
2012: 21 (3 five stars)
2013: 23 (4 five stars)
2014: 23 (3 five stars)
2015: 28 (3 five stars)
2016: 27 (2 five stars)
2017: 29 (2 five stars)
2018: 38 (3 five stars)
2019: 38 (2 five stars)
Experience will be greater than the freshmen laden 2018 squad, and we're likely to also add Philips in the coming weeks. That will push the total up to 39.

Funny that our most successful seasons this decade 2013,2016,2017 we had our lowest level of so called elite talent.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | February 06, 2019 at 11:38 PM
Quality of talent lacking on the O-Line, not bad but hopefully better coaching will lead to better production.
Defensive End is thin as is LB. Adding Hill helps but we need top notch Quality and the same goes for DT.
We ain't never catching Bama, as long as Saban is their but we really need to close the gap with Clemson. Can't close the gap when it's 12 to 4 in top 300 kids. Clemson can't come down here and out recruit us in Florida. As The Herb mentioned several times, winning consistently will start to cure a lot of our ills.
If u think about how potent we could be with all the talent that could of been added the last 2 years but went else where. Somewhere along the way these high schoolers have to figure out if they stay right here, we can take Bama's spot. Richards ain't winning no ship at Auburn.
The way college is right now, maybe 5 or 6 schools have a shot at a ship. Not to much parity as far as that goes.
Hell Florida has part of our previous decomits as part of their signing class.
Manny will get it figured out, I hope

Terrance, I think a common denominator and X factor was quarterback experience:
2013: Stephen Morris (4th year)
2016: Brad Kayaa (3rd year)
2017 saw a confluence of a lot of factors:
- First huge upgrade in talent in a decade
- A collapsing FSU and moribund Coastal
- Lack of game tape on Malik Rozier
All three teams had one thing in common that is not as prevalent for the 2019 season....depth. All had positions that were really thin. This coming squad is much deeper.
Posted by: TonyCane | February 07, 2019 at 12:16 AM
Scratch the huge upgrade in talent in 2017

2017 the Defense created 32 turnovers including 4 pick/fumble 6's that's the key. Spot on 2013 and 2016 analysis.

Boy, for two guys who supposedly suck at recruiting, Banda and Rumph sure have a lot of talented, highly ranked kids on the roster:
Trajan Bandy (4 stars)
Al Blades (4 stars)
D.J. Ivey (4 stars)
Gilbert Frierson (4 stars)
Gurvan Hall (4 stars)
Nigel Bethel (3 stars)
Keontra Smith (4 stars)

Benefits of renewing your season tickets:
6-month, interest-free payment plan still available
Access to an exclusive pre-sale for the Camping World Kick-Off (vs. Florida)
Have the opportunity to upgrade or add-on new seats during the relocation process
Change lots or buy parking passes before the general public

For the record...I remain uncommitted on season tickets.

Go Canes....now, now, now...there U go again!
That is cute, tidy little list you put together there for UM DBs but you damn well know that there are several much more highly rated 4-5 star DBs that Miami has lost out on over the last 3-4 years from right in their own back yard.
Don't be dishonest.

Soup,
I think the BOT should give every fan that purchased season tickets for five or more consecutive years over the last 15 years two extra free season tickets and free parking for a season with this years purchase as a thank you for suffering through what they put on the field, it's The New Miami.

From Barry,
Enos said he had his chance to watch his quarterbacks work out for the first time on Wednesday and “seeing them move around, obviously no footballs or anything, very impressed with Tate and his explosiveness and ability to accelerate and ability to change direction. He’s a guy maybe a little short of stature, but he’s got really big hands, really long arms, can create torque and generate arm action and arm velocity he needs.
“Also, he’s got an extremely large athletic lower body, which makes him very flexible and very explosive in order to change throwing angles and get feet set quickly to make throws on RPOs [run pass options] and play actions. He’s built exactly as we want him
Enos also has “been very impressed with the way [Martell] has handled himself and carried himself in a short time, just watching and listening and earning respect of his teammates in a short time. He’s got the right mental makeup a quarterback needs, certainly will add a lot of competition to that room, which has a lot of ability

Understand that. But imo those two AH guys were never, ever coming here, no matter who recruited them for the Canes.
Their proximity to UM mattered 0% to them imo. Putting those kids on Rumph is s tough way to look at it.
Overall he’s and Banda have stacked up some really talented kids and most importantly, developed them into NFL caliber players.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 07, 2019 at 12:23 PM
86,
U are right. Young and inexperienced. On paper the talent is there. If Pope and Hightower play like their rankings then we should be fine. Got to be better route runners. Having Enos devising plays to suit the talent will help.

More worried about O-Line and enthused about we just brought in. We can't movr
e forward if that is what we are going to bring in. Maybe one of those type project players but not 3. Personally I think they should make Nelson a DE or DT. He has a long way to go to get to 300lbs and good weight. Look at most of these recruits that went to other schools that come in at at least 270 or more. 240 is a small school size.
