All of us hoping that FSU would go into the season with just Blackman at quarterback...our hopes have been shattered. The Seminoles now have depth, having dipped deep into the talent pool to sign this heralded quarterback this evening:

I would rather go with 3 QBs than Pornboy and Pothead.....we do not need them as players or people...pull the ship let em pay their own way get out of town transfer do something different ....dont need ya!!!!

Terrance Sullivan

Preach VA.

VA Cane

I know it sounds harsh Tsully, but those guys are not committed to this team and their teammates...that is one thing I do not understand...or tolerate. Both are wrong.....they know better. I say cut bait and go now.....

TonyCane

This is hilarious...and it's real:

https://www.tomahawknation.com/florida-state-football-recruiting-fsu-class-commit-visit-offer/2019/2/6/18213949/a-desperate-plea-to-any-quarterback-noles-seminoles-fsu-lance-legendre-james-blackman-florida-state

VA Cane

Not sure whats up here in VA.....I did not vote for any of these guys; I am a conservative but not Republican. This state has changed a lot in my 60 years. Th Dems will tell you they take care of all the down trodden....Repubs are racist....looks different now don't it....

I say Gov and AG resign now....Gov cannot govern with that pic and his lies...he is twisting badly with those stories. AG said he should go...then he comes out with his tale. Both need to go; they are wrong and the people want them gone...no matter what.
Lt Gov has been accused....and she has a lawyer and a story....I cannot say either is right or wrong; innocent until proven guilty and she needs to be heard. Truth must be found first!

UMike

No politics please sir.

VA Cane

Dude i am just stating whats up in my state right now....the facts no politics just what should be done regarding poor decisions made by elected officials.

Terrance Sullivan

VA Cane U are Preaching to the choir I would have cut Porn Guy and Weed Guy last year. They would have been gone before Jeff Thomas left.

86Cane

After reading Tony's list of current payers I think it is eay to say that we are still 2-3 years away from being talented enough to win BIG.

10 wins this year.

Top 15 recruiting class next year.

Then we can have a conversation about being back or relevant again. I see some talent, but not dominating talent.

TonyCane

On a separate, non-football note, who as seen "They Shall Not Grow Old"? I took my son to see it two weeks ago and it was fantastic.

VA Cane

I agree 100% TSully....they are not positives regarding teamwork....working together...focusing on a goal....winning the way we should....knotheads that need to go!
Well put 86...we are 2 or 3 years away....we got to get away from that straight pro set all costs run or die game. You have to run, but you can use pro set and spread to open it up.
If things go right, we could win 10 as you say....FL and FSU will be tough games....if we do win 10 I will be pleased. We must build on this year!

VA Cane

Talent is there.....not top notch dominating talent like you point out.....and depth is not there either. This seasons play, the bowl, and CMR leaving really hurt recruiting....talent and depth.
Manny did a pretty good job of salvaging things....it could have been far worse, and looked as if it would be...

TonyCane

Actually, on paper this will likely be the strongest team that we have fielded since 2010, and it won't have the depth issues that the '10 or '09 squads had. Very quick run down of four and five star talent:

2006: 46 (4 five stars)
2007: 42 (5 five stars)
2008: 42 (4 five stars)
2009: 41 (4 five stars)
2010: 39 (4 five stars)
2011: 28 (3 five stars)
2012: 21 (3 five stars)
2013: 23 (4 five stars)
2014: 23 (3 five stars)
2015: 28 (3 five stars)
2016: 27 (2 five stars)
2017: 29 (2 five stars)
2018: 38 (3 five stars)
2019: 38 (2 five stars)

Experience will be greater than the freshmen laden 2018 squad, and we're likely to also add Philips in the coming weeks. That will push the total up to 39.

solarcane

Thirsty, thanks my friend

Terrance Sullivan

Funny that our most successful seasons this decade 2013,2016,2017 we had our lowest level of so called elite talent.

Herbieibis

Quality of talent lacking on the O-Line, not bad but hopefully better coaching will lead to better production.
Defensive End is thin as is LB. Adding Hill helps but we need top notch Quality and the same goes for DT.
We ain't never catching Bama, as long as Saban is their but we really need to close the gap with Clemson. Can't close the gap when it's 12 to 4 in top 300 kids. Clemson can't come down here and out recruit us in Florida. As The Herb mentioned several times, winning consistently will start to cure a lot of our ills.
If u think about how potent we could be with all the talent that could of been added the last 2 years but went else where. Somewhere along the way these high schoolers have to figure out if they stay right here, we can take Bama's spot. Richards ain't winning no ship at Auburn.
The way college is right now, maybe 5 or 6 schools have a shot at a ship. Not to much parity as far as that goes.
Hell Florida has part of our previous decomits as part of their signing class.
Manny will get it figured out, I hope

TonyCane

Terrance, I think a common denominator and X factor was quarterback experience:

2013: Stephen Morris (4th year)
2016: Brad Kayaa (3rd year)

2017 saw a confluence of a lot of factors:
- First huge upgrade in talent in a decade
- A collapsing FSU and moribund Coastal
- Lack of game tape on Malik Rozier

All three teams had one thing in common that is not as prevalent for the 2019 season....depth. All had positions that were really thin. This coming squad is much deeper.

TonyCane

Scratch the huge upgrade in talent in 2017

Terrance Sullivan

Great Stuff TonyCane

Terrance Sullivan

2017 the Defense created 32 turnovers including 4 pick/fumble 6's that's the key. Spot on 2013 and 2016 analysis.

Boy, for two guys who supposedly suck at recruiting, Banda and Rumph sure have a lot of talented, highly ranked kids on the roster:

Trajan Bandy (4 stars)
Al Blades (4 stars)
D.J. Ivey (4 stars)
Gilbert Frierson (4 stars)
Gurvan Hall (4 stars)
Nigel Bethel (3 stars)
Keontra Smith (4 stars)
Te'Cory Couch (4 stars)
Bubba Bolden (4 stars)
Christian Williams (4 stars)

Rumph was reason we flipped a Bama commit. Kudos to him and his hard work.

86Cane

Benefits of renewing your season tickets:

6-month, interest-free payment plan still available

Access to an exclusive pre-sale for the Camping World Kick-Off (vs. Florida)

Have the opportunity to upgrade or add-on new seats during the relocation process

Change lots or buy parking passes before the general public

86Cane

For the record...I remain uncommitted on season tickets.

86Cane

Go Canes....now, now, now...there U go again!

That is cute, tidy little list you put together there for UM DBs but you damn well know that there are several much more highly rated 4-5 star DBs that Miami has lost out on over the last 3-4 years from right in their own back yard.

Don't be dishonest.

86Cane

Raize...I agree 100%. Flipping the Bama kid this year was great. Props to Rumph for that.

Old Skool

Posted by: 86Cane | February 07, 2019 at 08:46 AM

Soup,
I think the BOT should give every fan that purchased season tickets for five or more consecutive years over the last 15 years two extra free season tickets and free parking for a season with this years purchase as a thank you for suffering through what they put on the field, it's The New Miami.

solarcane

Skool that was funny though!

solarcane

From Barry,

Enos said he had his chance to watch his quarterbacks work out for the first time on Wednesday and “seeing them move around, obviously no footballs or anything, very impressed with Tate and his explosiveness and ability to accelerate and ability to change direction. He’s a guy maybe a little short of stature, but he’s got really big hands, really long arms, can create torque and generate arm action and arm velocity he needs.

“Also, he’s got an extremely large athletic lower body, which makes him very flexible and very explosive in order to change throwing angles and get feet set quickly to make throws on RPOs [run pass options] and play actions. He’s built exactly as we want him

Enos also has “been very impressed with the way [Martell] has handled himself and carried himself in a short time, just watching and listening and earning respect of his teammates in a short time. He’s got the right mental makeup a quarterback needs, certainly will add a lot of competition to that room, which has a lot of ability

Understand that. But imo those two AH guys were never, ever coming here, no matter who recruited them for the Canes.

Their proximity to UM mattered 0% to them imo. Putting those kids on Rumph is s tough way to look at it.

Overall he’s and Banda have stacked up some really talented kids and most importantly, developed them into NFL caliber players.

Herbieibis

86,

U are right. Young and inexperienced. On paper the talent is there. If Pope and Hightower play like their rankings then we should be fine. Got to be better route runners. Having Enos devising plays to suit the talent will help.

VA Cane

OK solar...here it is...thats what she said.....about SOUP!!!!!!!
LOL!!!!!!

Herbieibis

More worried about O-Line and enthused about we just brought in. We can't movr
e forward if that is what we are going to bring in. Maybe one of those type project players but not 3. Personally I think they should make Nelson a DE or DT. He has a long way to go to get to 300lbs and good weight. Look at most of these recruits that went to other schools that come in at at least 270 or more. 240 is a small school size.

CGNC

Our new punter looks like a bad-a$$ LOL

CGNC

86 - I hear you on the tickets - if CMR had stayed we would not have renewed, but since we have an interesting and feisty head coach, we did renew.

CGNC

VA - I have a feeling pornboy and pothead are still around for depth issues as CMD needed to see what we could add in the way of the QB position. Transferring may not be out of the question yet.

VA,Native,

Listening to Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Born in Chicago
Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop on guitar Paul Butterfield on harp and vocals.

Thinking about how no bands today have this kind of soul and honesty.

For anyone who wants to get into the weeds regarding why old songs sound better. Here's an article detailing the high compression, low dynamic range (relatively loud sound of current hits) versus the no or low compression and high dynamic range of the oldies

https://tinyurl.com/yazda6v9

VA Cane

Nice OS.....a lot of the problem as well is digital re-mastering....you cannot beat analog music....nor can you beat the old tube amps...for stereos and instruments...and the old guitars....give me an old Fender Gibson Mosrite or Epiphone...and let me kick out the jams!!.....

I have a old Fender guitar a 64 Music Master II run through a Fender Super Reverb amp....a 1972....now i am not Jimi Hendrix by any means, but the sound from that guitar and amp is so pure and beautiful....I have a 72 McIntosh MC-2300....300 per channel....and when I rock The Stones Hendrix Old Fleetwood Mac, Butterfield, MC5, Airplane Quicksilver Dead....and many others....the volume and depth is unreal....300 per side rocks...especially wide open on a set of Klipsch speakers!!!!!!

Old Skool

I think the point is also you use speakers in a room. Many people listen to music on ear buds, cellphones or computers outside or amongst crowds or in other places with a lot of ambient noise. Thus, the compression and low dynamics often used to compensate.

VA Cane

I wish i knew who some of the people they named in the dynamics graphs were.....they arent really musicians are they?
Posers I would say....never heard of them!!!!!!
The old bands are far superior to this new ....well...stuff.....not much of it is real music that will be around forever!!!!!

CoCane

Zion Nelson weighed in at 240 at the beginning of his Senior season. The new staff said he's currently 263. If he's any good, he'll be ready to contribute as a redshirt sophomore. I have a good feeling about Nelson.

CoCane

Our transfers will allow the younger players an extra season to develop.

At the same time, add talent and experience on the field. If the new offense, S&C, OL and QB positions improve enough, next year will be special...

Man Mosrite guitars!
The Ventures and Johnny and The Hurricanes were the shyt.

I've played drums since 1963.
One oh the first garage bands I played in was an instrumental only cover band because we couldn't sing.

Walk Don't Run, Wham, Green Onions and Last Night was our set list for real.

Later in life we figured out you just need showmanship, voice is optional
Listen to any AC/DC song that kicks ass as an example.
Keep on rock in!

VA Cane

I think the attitude on and off the field will be different....after 15 years of just horrible negative losing culture.

Now Clappy had a couple good seasons after the Fiesta Disaster....but those in the know knew it was slipping away even when we were winning some games...it never felt like before... ..after Clappy got down to mediocre.....it was all the same Onion AlPa even CMR you knew there was no WE Are Back....we ain't been back since 03....and the 10-3 CMR was certainly not a real feat....lots of luck from average talent...and you knew CMR really was going through the motions.

I see a lot of change at least in attitude and culture off the field now. MD is energized and with new coaches and some bad eggs gone...or going i hope...it looks...upbeat. You still have to do it all year round...your classes, film, weightroom, diet, practice, game day....but i like what i see and hear so far. I think maybe we see a change finally from the old inept outdated ways and culture from Clappy to CMR....not going for Back but looking forward to something new genuine and real....no more talk some and mirrors!!!!!
Go Manny!!!

VA Cane

Agreed solar I started on guitar...Christmas 63...lessons 64....and the best stuff is still the way to weave basics together in many ways and let it rock!!!!!
Love your comments and thanks OS and Native for your musical input!!!!!!!!!

Manny is part of the changing of the guard in college head coaches.

The Urbans and Sabans are slowly dying out. The strict fatherly figure head coach template doesn't work with kids anymore

Coaches like Gundy,Dabo,Manny and even Leach interact with the players on a different level than the old guard.
There is nothing wrong with having fun while busting your ass for a change.

Manny's enthusiasm is contagious.
The other coaches, players, and fans are more fired up that I can remember since our last NC.
It didn't feel like this with Randy or Golden, or Richt.

I’m not.

They will grow.

JT is JT.

I think Hightower breaks out and Pope will get free releases and quick passes with motion.

I think Harley is due for a solid season.

There will be drops but we will be much better than last year.

Enos is gonna do WORK. He loves 2 te and Brevin and Mallory will create HELL FOR the defense. Both can do work in the slot from 10 and 11 groupings.

I hope Enos is ready to use Dj right and not try to make him run 1 with 20 carries. We should line Dj up EVERYWHERE( be, slot, h back). I want to see him with 10-14 rushes and 5-6 passing targets a game.

The young receivers are talented and I think Enos is going to create tons of positive momentum with his approach of not square pegging guys. The offense will be fun and exciting and the contrast to Richt’s stubbornness will push the young boys over the top, regardless of some bad routes or dropped passes here and there.

We have the tools to take the pressure off of them and I think Enos will get the most out of them.

The o is gonna swing back under him just like the d did under Manny in 2016.

Meant to say not make DJ rb 1, not run.

Also put him at rb, slot, hback. Not be.

Autocorrect sucks.

Ain't nothing "new" about Miami until we win the ACC title. And Clemson ain't folding anytime soon. We should have been winning the Coastal Division for YEARS now. Even Richt won it once. Show me an ACC Title and I will show U "The New Miami". Until then I will be here watching and waiting.

HOF isn’t just numbers tho VA. Different eras produce different numbers. Specialization has taken over especially when it comes to pitching. A “starter” rarely pitches more than 5 innings now. “Closers” used to go 2-3 innings. Now?... rarely more than 2-3 batters.

But in defense of numbers, no sport revolves around them more than baseball.

I'll go one better. Let's remove some of the noise and simply isolate it to ACC play. Here are the average points scored and allowed vs ACC opponents:

2004 (5-3): PF:28 PA:18
2005 (6-2): PF:30 PA:15
2006 (3-5): PF:16 PA:16
2007 (2-6): PF:18 PA:29
2008 (4-4): PF:28 PA:28
2009 (5-3): PF:32 PA:27
2010 (5-3): PF:26 PA:22
2011 (4-4): PF:25 PA:20
2012 (5-3): PF:35 PA:32
2013 (5-3): PF:31 PA:33
2014 (4-4): PF:29 PA:24
2015 (5-3): PF:25 PA:32
2016 (5-3): PF:30 PA:21
2017 (7-2): PF:24 PA:21
2018 (4-4): PF:25 PA:18

I agree DTX....but Halliday, who was a good pitcher....not even close in any numbers.....300 used to be the mark.....and even guys who won 300 were questioned....nice man nice pitcher.....not HOF JMO.....
I always felt that a guy to be great or HOF.....you got to hit 500 HRs....or have 3,000 hits 300+ BA....I dont know anymore.....hard to say there are great players in baseball now....league is watered down badly....talent is not there....way too many teams....same with NBA....even NFL could cut teams.....NBA and MLB need to trim the games back way too many of them....

TC great numbers.....by you....our #s are ...well...dismal? to say the least in some years....poor each year after 2005....but the seasons since 2003 have all been bad by our expectations and standards....

Optimism run amok?

Excuse me a minute.

I'll say this...we have been conditioned to expect failure.

Coker failed because he could not recruit for his offense at a level to replace outgoing talent

Shannon failed in part because he was put on a bargain level budget for staff and facilities at the same time a college football arms race had begun, and because his recruiting began to fail in the end.

Golden failed primarily for sticking with a defense antithecal to South Florida athletes. For five years we had a coach that refused to change a scheme that was simply not working. Five years of many people pointing out the obvious, but nothing changing.

Richt was the opposite. His offensive scheme failed to account for the talent of his athletes, and was ultimately as bad for Miami as D'No's schemes were for the defense. That's another three years of failure.

At minimum, it has been EIGHT YEARS with Miami suffering from either a very bad system on defense or on offense. We have not seen above average coaching on both sides of the ball simultaneously in a very, very long time.

Putting it another way, if 2016 - 2018 Manny Diaz had been defensive coordinator under Al Golden and had free reign, Golden would likely still be our coach. Or he would have gotten the head coaching job at Penn State in 2014.

If Jed Fisch had been the offensive coordinator under Mark Richt and had similar autonomy for the offense, I could see Miami only losing 2 games in 2016, 1 game in 2017, and 1 game in 2018 (make that 2 if you count the ACC title game).

We've been conditioned to believe that we're worse than we actually are. This is a talented, young roster whose primary question mark is going to be the quarterback (Williams or Tate). Talent-wise, we're on the level of Clemson from about four years ago. But we are heads and shoulders above everyone else in the Coastal. With decent coaching on both sides of the ball, I don't see why we should not go 7-1 in ACC regular season play this year.

We're certainly underperforming based on the talent on hand. From 2012 - 2015 it was the defense that underperformed, handcuffed by a terrible system. For the last three years its been the offense.

Let's put it this way. The 2012 team averaged 35 points a game in ACC play. The 2018 team averaged TEN LESS. If you were to compare the offenses for each going into each season, which on paper sounds better? And which overperformed? And which underperformed?

So Points For (PF) we scored less last year (25) than in 2016 when Richt took over?

Predictions: Next year what will out PF be?

TonyCane

Yep. I attribute that to more experienced, good talent on offense (Njoku, Coley, Walton, and Kayaa), coupled with a superstar WR in Richards.
