Sports Illustrated giving Manny and Richt some love

https://www.si.com/college-football/2019/02/08/manny-diaz-miami-hurricanes-transfers-signing-day

Old Skool

Great article about Manny and TNM in SI.

One point it drove home was how much of a debt of gratitude we owe Richt. First, the guy did give a million of his own money to the IPF. Second, He had a contract that ran til 2023. So he could have made the school buy him out or just kill time until he was fired. Let's assume that his contract was for $4 million a year. He could have probably gained another (I'm guessing here) $7 million by insisting they buy him out. Instead, he chose to retire, no buyout, no drama. And instead of the school have to pay whatever it would have cost to get rid of him, it looks like at least some of that money is being spent on additional support staff.

Terrance Sullivan

Old Skool Richt buyout was 16 million that he walked away from. Let's also not forget even though it ended somewhat poorly We are in a much better position now that when He walked in to the Job in December 2015. Anybody trashing the guy is tripping hard. Hopefully CMD can rev the program back up and build on the momentum of 2016 and 2017 and hopefully 2018 was a hiccup like the 2010 season was for Clemson. I agree with Soup it wont be the New Miami until within a 10 year Window we have won played in 8 New Years Six Bowls(The Other 2 will need to be similar to bowl in Orlando or Jacksonville aka down years) 3 ACC Titles 6 ACC Coastal Titles played in 3 Playoffs played in 2 Title Games and won a National Title. Then we will have officially arrived again. So Hopefully Lord Willing we can access this situation in late January 2029.

The kiss of death statement:

“I’m still committed there, but I’m keeping my options open.”

Go Canes!!

Fields immediately eligible:

BREAKING: The NCAA has approved quarterback Justin Fields' waiver application. Fields is eligible to play this fall for Ohio State after transferring from Georgia. espn.com/espn/now?nowId…

Go Canes!!

Will be interesting to see how they screw us with Martell after this.

solarcane

Sully,
you are forecasting it will still be the same Miami until at least ten years from now until you can confirm you have seen new changes ???

solarcane

Penn State beat writer

It's assumed that Tate Martell, the former Ohio State quarterback, will be the next NCAA player to receive an immediate eligibility waiver. After that, the NCAA will have next to no choice but to rid itself of the sit out rule for non-graduate transfers.

Every interview I have done since he left I have said Justin Fields would be immediately eligible. That should not surprise anyone. The eyes on college football are on the decision of Tate Martell. If he wins, it will forever change college football.

Go Canes!!

They just have to get rid of the year wait if a kid transfers after already burning his redshirt.

I was reading about Ed Reed wanting to build a park in his old neighborhood in New Orleans.

Ed Reeds net worth is over 12 million dollars right now.
Ed is hooked up with lots of high rollers. He could get half the money from the Saints it would seem.

If that didn't work out he could ask JJWatts and Watts would probably build it for him.

Why is Ed Reed asking me to donate 20 dollars to build "his" park?

NativeCane

Lap dance Mr. Derringer?....

No thanks I'll have a Sloopy!....

Me too!

BigWindyCane

By the end of the season we will put up big numbers, 31+ per game in conference.

💯

Her name is Liz Brewer she is still very attractive and aged well, she was the lead guitarist/singer's girlfriend.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Solar, I think you are incorrect, I believe her name is Sue Ellen Mischke :-)

VA Cane

Agree TSully.....CMR must be commended for walking away from $.....despite the things we fussed about that is something not many would do. Urban or saban would never do anything for their schools; narcissistic egomanics both of them.

New Miami....within a 10 year Window we have won played in 8 New Years Six Bowls(The Other 2 will need to be similar to bowl in Orlando or Jacksonville aka down years) 3 ACC Titles 6 ACC Coastal Titles played in 3 Playoffs played in 2 Title Games and won a National Title. Then we will have officially arrived again.

Now that is a tall order...very tall....but I would certainly agree....this scenario is what it takes to be a winner on the national level....Saban got his ass kicked....but yet look at that class....he will be in it....a balding
whining bad tempered jerk dressed like an assclown....but he will be 1 or 2 to begin the season no doubt....thats what we have to do....we will see

TonyCane

I do wonder, at what point does Saban get bored by the grind, or worn out from it? Does he stay at Alabama until his 80s? Does he go to the NFL? Does he retire?

thirstybuzzardcane

We'll see how bad the NCAA hates Miami on the Martell decision. There's is no doubt in my mind that Martell should be eligible right away after hearing the Fields decision.

If anything, Martell has a better case than Fields did.

thirstybuzzardcane

I think we'll see Alabama go into a slump. Their slump though is a 2 loss season.

TonyCane

LOL...Thirsty, they’ll priobably take away ALL of his eligibility because he transferred to TNM.

VA Cane

Saban cannot coach in the NFL..first he has no understanding of the pro game or players like JJ or Pete Carroll....Switzer never coached the pros...not really hell he was the male Queen of England....Troy Emmitt and Playmaker were the coaches....Saban does not know men or what a man is....he scares lower coaches and boys.....he will never make it there....great college coach....no doubt....but i hate him...and Bama...not the kids...the school is another FSU...

Terrance Sullivan

VA Cane the reason I mentioned the 10 year window because that's basically what Clemson has down in Dani 10 full years on the job. Well just even better because they have won 5 ACC Titles and Played in 3 National Title Games and won 2 Titles played in 7 New Year's 6 Bowls in that time period. It can be done.but once again you are spot on

solarcane

Raize
here you go

solarcane

Sully
Diaz said it's The New Miami he didn't say it was Clemson lol
But I get your timeline my friend

VA Cane

I think to be relevant like we were in the day....that is reasonable time line......we sure have been off track since 2003

solarcane

Will Clemson have 5 National Championships before we have 6?
I know we already have 6 But you know what I mean.

solarcane

think we'll see Alabama go into a slump. Their slump though is a 2 loss season.

Sad but true thirsty

BigWindyCane

CMD released Matt Doherty and the rest of the recruiting staff. IMO, CMD is sending a message that the Canes didn’t meet his expectations on the recruiting trail. The Canes came up short in recruiting, but they definitely made up for it on the transfer portal. But the 2020 and 2021 classes are off to great starts, so as long as the Canes win this season, the recruits will come and stay through NSD

solarcane

Cager transfers to Georgia

solarcane

Clemson ast. coaching staff payroll is 7.1 million highest in nation.
3 coordinators make over 1 million each.

VA Cane

Cager had so much on paper talent....but it never translated on the field....poor routes, not a lot of hustle did not look the ball in or catch it in the hands....not very good blocker....and no go across the middle where the Hitman awaits.....LC did not want to be hit....and he is a big boy.

45 catches 681 yds 10 TDs in 3 years.....6 TDs in 2018.....not what i call impressive....and he had no QB to speak of....but still....nothing really even what i would call good. UGA info said they are reloading with him....hmmmmm......its not like he is Playmaker, AJ5 or Reggie W....just a over rated 4 star....who was about 2.5 stars....

Seems like a nice kid....ought to have played basketball where the hits are like ballroom dancing....none really. Still wish him luck at UGA.....in the SEC there will be some hitting to deal with!!!

solarcane

Remember a little while ago I mentioned Brevin Jordan was recruiting better than some of the coaches?
And now those recruiters are gone.

Co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Ephraim Banda credited tight end Brevin Jordan for aiding in the recruiting of Tate Martell and Bubba Bolden, Jordan’s former high school teammates at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

“When Brevin is done playing, I will hire him as recruiting coordinator,” Banda cracked

VA Cane

Solar The great Buddy guy on PBS....wailing that guitar playing some serious stuff....82 acts like he is a kid....awesome stuff awesome player....i have some of his really old LPs with Junior Wells from the 60s....got them from a DJs wife in like 88....rare stuff really good......

solarcane

VA,
yea a true legend,
He can be playing some soulful azz blues and then before you even realize it he's playing jazz as good as anyone ever has then he's back in the pocket doing some blues again.

Didn't Jimi Hendrix get that playing with his teeth and behind his back showmanship from Guy?
I know Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck think the world of Buddy Guy.

Damn Right I've Got The Blues

solarcane

I know this will put a smile on every one of your faces, it kills me every time enjoy!

https://youtu.be/-RzU9egK6oQ

thirstybuzzardcane

Cager played like he was 5'3". That guy was soft and his hands were bricks. Not sure why he picked Georgia.

VA Cane

Buddy was quite a showman from way back....he is from Louisiana...bet LSU guy never heard of the blues!!!!!!

He was a showman in the late 50s when he moved to Chicago...played with Jr Wells...heavily influenced by Muddy!
His live shows were wild...still are at 82....his studio stuff was toned down by the record company.....but what a legend he is....great guy.
Met him once at a club downtown Richmond...they had tons of blues people in the day.....he was righteous....got him to sign an LP....got john Lee to sign Hooker and Heat ( great album with Canned Heat....another boogie band)...Buddy was big influence on Jimi....Clapton, Beck crazy over him....he has known the Stones since 64...opened for them European Tour 1970 shows....long time friend with Keith and the boys.....he's one of the last living legends....I have been very lucky to see many of the greats like him....

VA Cane

Awesome solar u r too much my man...Thanks!!!!!!

You are right TBC....he never fought for a ball...and I have seen it bounce off his mask...helmet...chest....did not use hands and when he did...they may have been blocks....he did not like contact for sure!!!!!

Might have called it quits this year if Dabo didn’t ream him.

I doubt he does the Bowden.

He is WAY to intense to last that long.

Having to deal with Lawrence is going to take a lot of years off of his life.

solarcane

Canned Heat, man another under rated Band they probably have over a hundred songs out and 90% of the people think they wrote an insurance company jingle

Saw them with the original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with John Prine as guest performer.

Having to deal with Lawrence is going to take a lot of years off of his life.

You ain't kiddin Tru

VA Cane

Yes solar...Alan "The Blind Owl" Wilson was a blues purist...great slide and guitar...harp great voice....and the great Bob "The Bear" Hite belting the blues....they both were blues experts...knew all the greats....

Hers Alan singing and playing...and check the whistling in the break....

Harry Miller

Why did did Mark Wricht walk away from 16 million$,

Simply put he is a true Christian man, tries to live a Godly and humble life to the best of his abilities knowing he will richly rewarded in his next and only true home. keeping something he knows he truly did not earn is not being a Godly man.

We should all be thankful to be associated with him in any way.

Go Canes!!

Absolutely.

Have said it several times on here. If this kid was that good after a half dozen starts, just imagine when he has 20 and is still a sophomore.

No one is stopping Clemson the next couple of years if that kid stays healthy. I'd take them against the field if I had to place a bet on next years NC.

HillviewCane

The potential problem for the NCAA is Martell's attorney appears to be ready to go if they deny him. They might want to avoid that.

HillviewCane

They being the NCAA

Herbieibis

I bet Coach Kugoliwoski wished he hadn't jumped at what he thought were greener pastures, as Saban dumped him.

TonyCane

Totally agreed, Harry.

NativeCane

True words Harry Miller!
