The University of Miami football program announced Tuesday that the National Collegiate Athletic Association has approved a waiver for quarterback Tate Martell, which makes him immediately eligible for competition.
"We are pleased with this ruling and appreciate the NCAA recognizing that this waiver met the criteria under the membership established guidelines," Director of Athletics Blake James said. "We would like to thank the NCAA, as well as Ohio State University, for their assistance and support throughout the waiver process. We look forward to seeing Tate compete for Miami this season."
Martell, a redshirt sophomore from Las Vegas, transferred to UM from Ohio State in January. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
We also have a true OC and QB coach for the first time in a while. As Brevin Jordan said, this Enos offense will score a lot of points "from Game 1."

Let it be written that on the 19th of March in the year 2019 it was determined by the powers of college football and confirmed by the bloggers at Canespace that the Miami Hurricanes football team will never lose another football game.
And so it is done.

HOMEPAGE
Day Two observations from Miami Hurricanes’ spring practice. Tate, N’Kosi, Jarren, WRs

Duration 0:48Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dan Enos
Day Two of spring practice began at about 9 a.m. or thereafter on Wednesday at the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility — Day One if you’re counting Tate Martell’s new life as a bona fide contender in the Miami Hurricanes quarterback race.
Martell, as you no doubt know by now, had his transfer waiver approved by the NCAA on Tuesday, meaning he can play immediately this coming season instead of sitting out the customary season usually required for everyone except graduate transfers.
And there’s mostly good news for Miami fans, as the three current scholarship quarterbacks looked much sharper than yesterday, their receivers dropped very few passes and we didn’t see any pushups doled out as punishment.
From the 30 minutes or so of viewing, we saw, like Tuesday, quarterback handoffs and side-by-side QBs throwing slants to opposite sides of the indoor facility. Junior slot receiver Mike Harley looked really good and super fast. Grad transfer K.J. Osborn made some impressive catches.
Once 7-on-7s started, rising redshirt sophomore N’Kosi Perry took the first snaps, followed by Martell, Williams and walk-on Carson Proctor. Williams threw sharp, accurate passes, and is looking good through two days.
Coaches began applauding and shouting praise to linebacker Shaq Quarterman after he defended running back Cam Davis on one play.
▪ Senior safety Robert Knowles, who appeared to hurt his left hip Tuesday, appeared to injure himself more significantly Tuesday while defending a pass from Williams in a drill that had Mark Pope as the receiver. Williams’ hard throw ricocheted off Knowles’ hands and landed a few feet away into the arms of Pope, who sprinted toward the end zone. Knowles immediately fell to the ground and lay there for a few minutes as he was attended by head trainer Vinny Scavo and medical staff. He finally was slowly escorted off the field with his right arm bent at the elbow and held against his torso.
â–Ş Striker/linebacker Zach McCloud, who is limited (hand) during spring, was back working out Wednesday Not sure how extensively he practiced. Still out: Running back Lorenzo Lingard and tight end Brian Polendey.
Have to get back out there now. Will be back with much more.

Don’t sleep on N’kosi.
Whoever wins the job will be all conference.
Enos’ playaction game will get us off playing the way we should have before and make us IMPOSSIBLE to cover.
Yes it is a new install and there will be hiccups, but we will roll quickly.
The skill talent will allow us to make big plays with simple concepts. Don’t need a ton of perfect plays off the top, just mixing up quick hits to mismatches.
Enos can put up points even while losing at the line of scrimmage. I can’t reiterate this enough.
2019 will be special and we will look like a team on the verge, if not an outright dark horse playoff contender.

Three things have already been confirmed:
1. Miami will never lose another game. EVER
2. The first play of 2019 will result in an illegal motion penalty because when the refs see a UM player go in motion they will know that something must be wrong and throw a flag.
3. The Canes will beat the Gatahs 34-13.
That is all.

This is BY FAR the most talented and deepest team we’ve had here in a decade plus.
My expectations for this team are sky high and I’ve never been a 12% guy.
Said it before and I’ll say it again. Losing more than two games and not playing in Charlotte will be an epic fail.

Expect a lot of motion penalties and 12 men on the field for a second the first couple games without calling out the refs for picking on us, these guys will be fun to watch for sure when they get it figured out.

I have equal expectations that he could be on the all acc team or in the portal. You never know when a young guy will get the fire lit.
The coaches are giving him room to grow, the fans should too.
Can’t wait til the pads get strapped up and we start getting some real feedback.

I think we overwhelm the gators offensive line.
I see a special teams td and defensive score, maybe two.
Squeeze 20-24 out of offense, we can wipe these guys out.
Run run pass punt is over.
Secondary will probably give up a long td or two, Franks won’t beat us passing and we feast on transitioning lines. It’s the senior laden lines with lots of starts that give us the most trouble. Shaq blitzing the middle will befuddle their run game. I think we shut them down.
I hope we get the offense going but new system and early season matchup of athletic defenses usually mean a war of attrition to get 20 first.

It is. Based on recruiting, it's the strongest team since 2009. And it has better general depth than the 2009 squad too. We only had Jacory Harris at QB, with newcomer AJ Highsmith converted to QB to provide a bare minimum of backup.

SUPER HAPPY to hear about the offense Enos has planned.
However, The U will NOT be the only team using motion... we're joining the masses.
So, to act like we're going to just DOMINATE the country now because of pre-snap motion, is a BIT of a stretch.
Going back to my original line though... I'm SUPER HAPPY to hear about the Enos offense.

I'll make a note of this.
Can you imagine the stress on the OC for calling your first three plays for a newly installed offense, in your first game on a new team in a new season against a State rival?
I'm gonna need something a little stronger than Gatorade just to watch that.

Posted by: 86Cane | March 21, 2019 at 07:35 AM
Gator defense will be good. Wouldn't surprise me if we struggled offensively the entire game against them.
But our defense is going to dominate four new starters on their offensive line, They also lost Scarlett at RB and their starting TE.
And I don't care what anyone says, Franks is total trash against any decent defense.
Can see this being a 20-17 type game.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | March 21, 2019 at 08:03 AM
I hate to admit it but I agree with soup to a point,
New head coach, new offense, playing on the biggest stage against a rival.
I see some dumb penalties, a costly fumble or pick early. Leave at least two scores on the field. Then we settle down and our defense throttles Frank and we leave 1-0.
27-24
Posted by: solarcane | March 21, 2019 at 09:51 AM
Whoa, let's get to the root of what could be our problem going forward, our Lines.
Our offensive line has got to be way better and we all know how we struggle when we play teams that have talent similar to ours or better and then u throw in how we play on the road, which we have stunk at for the most part.
Don't matter who's calling the plays or qbing, the list e has got to be better. Yes we will be better with Enos but but got to get that area shored up before we can really roll on that side of the ball.
Defensively, I see us taking a slight step back. 3 new Db's and no body in the same area code as good as Willis was. Ford and Silverado will be the keys to how good this Defense will be. If they play up and down we will struggle some. If they are consistent, then we could be pretty good.
LB's are going to have to play their azz's off.
Agree Florida with Frank's at QB, is a who knows what u are going to get. The game is a toss up. Not ready to make prediction until Mid August.
What worries The Herb the most is how we have played on the road! Also interested to see how all these new coaches can recruit. Aside from Enos, it's like where did these guys come from.
I believe in Manny, so I got to trust his judgement, for the time being.
Posted by: Herbieibis | March 21, 2019 at 10:59 AM
LOL Herb so U are trying to tell us when QB has time and their were plenty of times the QB had time He would airmail it 10 yards over the WR head or Throw it in the Ground 3 yards in front of the WR or cant even read a simple blitz or coverage and throw into Triple Coverage Both Rosier and Perry did that. Yes our Line needs to get better but excusing that Bleep show of QB'ing and Coaching last year is laughable.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | March 21, 2019 at 12:18 PM
O line was young, had guys playing out of position and poorly coached.
They’re good enough to give a QB time to execute times a game to be successful.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | March 21, 2019 at 12:35 PM
We could of had an OL full or studs last year and the O still would of sucked. The QB play and horrendous play calling and scheming was the problem
Posted by: UMike | March 21, 2019 at 03:16 PM
You are correct UMike
No Qb and no aggressive play calling cost us the season. We could have overcome a lot of things with 14 to 20 more points per game.
The difference betweene Anus and Enos as qb coach should be good for two games alone.

Posted by: JCane | March 21, 2019 at 07:01 PM
I guess the line played lights out against Wisky.
It's no secret the play calling sucked and the QB's sucked. Duh, I watched the same games u did. Both lines against talent similar or better than ours cause us problems. Now u can all act like we have been relieved of some curse because things have changed with Manny being the head honcho But The Lines are the keys. Watch the Nat'l ritle game. Bama couldn't do much against Clemson's Dee line and Bama didn't put Lawrence down to much. Games are won in the trenches.
Posted by: Herbieibis | March 21, 2019 at 07:50 PM
Herbie,
It is gonna be better all the way around. There wasn't a curse as much as there was a mediocrity rules attitude.
Posted by: solarcane | March 21, 2019 at 08:05 PM
Herb - you are correct!
TSully - you are correct!
Bottom line is- you need good lines to compete but you also need good game planning and schemes!
I keep hearing from Enos (and imo this guy isn’t good - he’s elite) is he wants to put players in positions to max out their talent and to cause mismatches - this is wonderful and there are not many defenses that will be able to match up with brevin, Jett Thomas, cam Harris/Lorenzo and imo Tate - this can and will be a DYNAMIC offense!

Lonnie Walker with 8 points after one quarter tonight as the Austin Spurs take on the Sioux City Skyforce in their final home game of the season. Lonnie’s a fan favorite and got a big pop when he was announced from “The U”.

After the 4th pick, that team threw in the towl against Wisky.
And the Bama-Clemson game isn't what we should be looking at right now. We need to look at our schedule and ask if we are more talented across the board than any opponent we play.
That answer, MAYBE outside of Gainesville, is a resounding yes.
Clemson rotated about five first rounders on thatd defensive line againt Bama.
We don't need that to beat the schedule we have this year.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | March 21, 2019 at 09:06 PM
Lonnie finished with 21. My son came up to him after the game and said, “The U!”. Lonnie responded, “You know it!” He gave him a fist bump before heading back to the locker room with the Spurs.

Awesome solar awesome....you have the touch. I cannot see Pornboy QBing this team; do not like him but let him compete....maybe he will change...don't think so but we will see. Settle it on the field....we will see...
You have to have great lines to dominate football....no doubt. The play calling was horrible, coaching bad as well...poor..but the players on the OL were fat weak out of shape...slow and lazy. No wonder we were so bad on O.
Almost ready to ditch Oakland Raiders...once so in the mix...now they have Brown and Burfict losers me guys who are problems on and off field...hate them both hope they get hurt out for season...sad....
