The University of Miami football program announced Tuesday that the National Collegiate Athletic Association has approved a waiver for quarterback Tate Martell, which makes him immediately eligible for competition.
"We are pleased with this ruling and appreciate the NCAA recognizing that this waiver met the criteria under the membership established guidelines," Director of Athletics Blake James said. "We would like to thank the NCAA, as well as Ohio State University, for their assistance and support throughout the waiver process. We look forward to seeing Tate compete for Miami this season."
Martell, a redshirt sophomore from Las Vegas, transferred to UM from Ohio State in January. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

If I get down that way, I would love to see how you do your work....it is so awesome....I love seeing it....I think many others do as well.
I hate these talking heads....cowherd knows nothing about sports...an idiot!! He said he was fine with Izzo....getting on a kid is one thing...lunging pointing being restrained is too much....he is a wannabe...1 title 20 years ago....and has a rep for turning his eye on player screwups....it is no necessary...you can be stern...but he was a jerk. Knight was a great coach as well...but he went even further over the line. I want my guys to be tough..I teach and discipline...but this aint the 60s and 70s...you have to evolve and act like ya been there. Same with Bruce Pearl...a liar cheater...hope they both lose quickly! Cowherd and Bayless...useless.
Hope Williams does well....I do not like a wobbly ball....old UM football compete on the field for the job!!

I bet U that Jarren Williams was steaming last year when they wouldn't play him behind the two poorly performing and uderachieving QBs ahead of him?
Posted by: 86Cane | March 22, 2019 at 02:37 PM
a QB who could not complete simple passes, a QB who is more interested in being a gangsta and porn star, and a QB who stayed floating on da weed....at least the first guy tried....was really a baseball player but not a bad kid....the other 2? F**k em!!!!!

He didn't make it impossible for them to sit him.
He gained weight, fell asleep in meetings and pouted plenty.
It wasn't all on Richt.

I thought you were talking about soup for a second there, then I read it again.
You gotta remember Jarren was Richts hand picked Georgia boy, I'm sure he thought he was gonna get special privilege from CMR.

From another observer of practice today Miami Herald
The full pads were on, and so was the fun.
First, the quarterbacks: Redshirt freshman Jarren Williams looked terrific again. His throws look so comfortable and easy and right on point. Of course, we’re not talking about defense here, but when it comes to form and release and the way the ball is delivered to the receiver, he looks very sharp. He threw one bomb to slot receiver Mike Harley Jr., that was as perfect a throw as you will ever see. It hit the fingertips of Harley, who was in a flat-out sprint and brought in the ball as he raced toward the end zone. We just haven’t seen him miss too much at all

Big Cane drill
Canes go one on one Oklahoma drill style
"But without a doubt, one of the loudest reactions came when quarterback Perry went into the middle against quarterback Williams. Though we couldn’t see the competition, we did see Williams clearly emerge victorious. Jordan leaped sky high and slapped Williams repeatedly on his helmet."
Tate coming to Miami seems like the best thing that could have happened for JW

I am excited about what I am reading about Spring practice. It’s going to be a great season
Posted by: BigWindyCane | March 22, 2019 at 07:40 PM
This pre season reminds me a little of 1987 I think it was.
We thought Craig Ericson (Tate) Was gonna start as a freshman from Newman.
Walsh (Williams)beat him out and lost like 1 game in two years.
Who knows?
Posted by: solarcane | March 22, 2019 at 08:15 PM
Or 1983 when everyone thought Vinny Testeverde was going to be the Starting QB but ultimately ending up being Bernie Kosar. In either case both teams won national title. Now I certainly don't expect a National Title hell I don't expect a ACC Title I believe Clemson win win both ACC and National Title. But we should win 10 games and ACC Coastal and NY6 Game and ultimately go like 11-3 or 12-2.

TSully and Solar,
Great comparisons to past great Canes teams. Another similarity is that there is a true open competition between Williams, Perry and Martell in the QB room, and the competition will push all of them to get better

Convinced NCAA is a conspiracy...they always screw us whenever they can....Ohio State got 3 or 4 blatant calls last night...just obvious calls....KY got several calls against Wofford today at the end....had their 3 point guy been on...he was 0-12...Wofford wins going away....IJS

Top of the 8th tied at 2 vs. #5 NC St. at the Light in game 3 with the U hoping to salvage at least 1 game after losing game 2 scoring 4 in the 9th but still one short of tying it up. Still not quite ready to routinely play with the big boys yet, although improved, like you had generally said last week, 86. It's especially obvious when losing so many at home.

JCane
My opinion 2 yrs ago and some agreed that we needed a complete turnover- not a coach in waiting
DiMare is not the answer Nor was he ever - brad Scott after Ron Fraser; DiMare after Morris; nope
We needed young, new blood similar to Morris after Scott
This team is not well coached (errors, bad and untimely pitching moves, and untimely hitting, missing bunts, etc)
